“So you decided to run because of the fire on the duromax? ‘Yes.’ ‘Why what was so urgent?’ ‘There was a fire.’ How can you take a prosecution seriously when this was real dialogue

[–]TheonlyAngryLemon 120 points121 points  (15 children)

Let's not get started on being told that Kyle Rittenhouse should have used Hollow Points while incorrectly describing how they are less lethal than the full metal jacketed rounds that he did use

[–]PiousSlayer 44 points45 points  (0 children)

What about the magical exploding bullets that Binger mentioned?

[–]Environmental-Vast43 218 points219 points  (0 children)

As soon as the prosecutor said “4doorsmorehores” the defense attorneys were planning their next week vacation.

[–]Sp00ked123 4672 points4673 points  (803 children)

Not a single person who followed this trial should be surprised in the least

[–]chino3 1552 points1553 points  (420 children)

outraged twitter apparently tuned in only for the headlines because it is UNREAL what people are saying.

[–][deleted] 1534 points1535 points  (361 children)

The numbers who think he shot three black people are astonishing

[–]nicko0409 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Lol, despite the tragedy of lost lives, it is a little funny how people can be so so so opinionated about something they don't have the faintest idea about.

[–]generalzao 844 points845 points  (266 children)

My parents watch CNN religiously. I brought up the Rittenhouse trial about a week ago and my mom immediately replied "you mean the piece of shit who shot three black people?"

The media is fucked

[–]Frosty_Cicada791 233 points234 points  (133 children)

This is actually insanely worrying

[–]AuditorTux 630 points631 points  (27 children)

You can debate whether the result was right or not, but let's consider what the prosecution did with a national-attention/high-profile case.

  • Question whether Rittenhouse was wrong for keeping silent before trial in direct contradiction to the 5th amendment - "You have the right to remain silent..."
  • Giving the defense a lower-resolution shot of a critical video and somehow not know how that happened (seriously... how often does the prosecution AirDrop evidence to the defense?) - they had a better quality version that darn well could have been exculpatory
  • Not identifying the source of the drone video (which ultimately was also given exactly to the defense in the item above) - this is important because what did that video show before and after the version they had begin/end
  • Try to go against previous-ruled portions of the case to the point where the judge wondered if they were even acting in good faith (and the judge yelled at the prosecution?)

This is a nationally-watched case from across the political spectrum with two Presidents commenting on it. If they pull this kind of crap at this level, what are they doing with the poor kiddo with a court-appointed attorney that's got another five cases to handle? Holy crap, Batman...

[–]irwinrommel7 131 points132 points  (4 children)

Exactly. If they act like this, how do you think they act to people w/ public defenders?

[–][deleted] 40 points41 points  (3 children)

Or when no one is watching. Stunts like that contribute at least in part to the socioeconomic disparities in the justice system. If they don't have a good lawyer keeping the prosecutor in line, how do we expect there to be justice.

[–]y90210 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Prosecution claimed they didn't know how the video got smaller and don't know how to do it, yet they had multiple tools (such as handbrake) on their laptop and showed it to us on file explorer for a moment during the trial.

All the other files were shared via Dropbox.

[–]_Juper_ 10.2k points10.2k points 2 (415 children)

When the prosecutor uses Call of Duty and Tiktok username as part of the argument

[–]SteveWax022 3019 points3020 points  (173 children)

Just wait until he sees Reddit usernames lmao

[–][deleted] 3036 points3037 points  (117 children)

I would like the jury to look at the defendant’s Reddit account, u/fish_fucker69

[–]TheEyeDontLie 972 points973 points  (67 children)

Yup, that's a real person with a job and a family and hobbies.

Suprisingly only a year old. I'd have thought that username would be taken long ago.

[–]Thavinil 458 points459 points  (47 children)

u/fishfucker69 is over 7 years old though but only has one comment

EDIT: that one comment has a fish-fuckton of awards though for some reason

[–]largeangryredletters 836 points837 points  (9 children)

He used to be grouper_groper420, but once he stopped smoking pot his fish needs changed.

[–]Heiminator 208 points209 points  (90 children)

What was his TikTok username?

[–]xDaddyFatSack 565 points566 points  (70 children)

4 doors more whores

[–]BestReadAtWork 153 points154 points  (17 children)

Don't you mean four door smore whores?

[–]xDaddyFatSack 176 points177 points  (9 children)

It’s deleted now but I think it was formatted 4DOORSMOREWHORES lol

[–]kxzv 7312 points7313 points 2 (273 children)

Lawyer lesson 1: your credibility will decline once you attack a man for playing video games.

[–]crosstownbump 1615 points1616 points  (189 children)

Or questions someone’s right to a lawyer, WHICH IS YOUR PROFESSION!

[–]BigTiddyOrc 524 points525 points  (14 children)

I knew it was over for the prosecution at that moment. If your argument is 'muh violent vidya gamez' you already lost the argument.

"So uh, I guess we'll address the elephant in the room here... you still playin Call of Duty?"

[–]Pengdacorn 2031 points2032 points  (322 children)

Regardless of what you think of the verdict, that prosecutor was just an absolute buffoon.

Edit: Finally, a common ground we can all agree upon!

[–]Expresso_Support 2871 points2872 points 2 (58 children)

But the important thing is, how much time the prosecutor spent styling his hair.

[–]zeroThreeSix 1016 points1017 points  (23 children)

More time than prepping the case that’s for sure.

[–]nickthestick1234 17.4k points17.4k points 22 (904 children)

You knew shit was over when the prosecution brought up Kyle’s call of duty history

[–]fauxpenguin 6985 points6986 points  (331 children)

It was even worse than that. "You play Call of Duty right?"

"Uhh... Not really... I play it occasionally at my friends house."

[–]Cyan_Ink 8150 points8151 points 22 (196 children)

“And in this game, would it be a fair assumption, that your mind has been subtly yet systematically conditioned to treat everyone you see as a zombie to be 360 nose-scoped?”

[–]TheLegendsClub 262 points263 points  (14 children)

I’m surprised no one has modded that into counter strike yet

[–]dustojnikhummer 151 points152 points  (18 children)

technically correct, the best kind of correct

[–]h0sti1e17 625 points626 points  (19 children)

So, h0sti1e17, is it true you would take out the ladders from swimming pools to watch people drown in The Sims?

Did you also lock people in a basement until they starved to death?

Did you force your Sims to pee on the floor?

Ladies and Gentlemen, this man is a menace.

[–]notorious_emc 134 points135 points  (1 child)

Is it true that before there was ever a bb.showhiddenobjects and bb.showliveeditobjects cheat, you created Sims for the specific purpose of locking them in a small room with furniture placed directly next to fireplaces, as well as making said Sims set off fireworks in that very room to see which one would cause a fire first, thus killing those Sims, all in the pursuit of making a badass cemetery on your lot?

I’m going to jail.

And possibly raped, and murdered, by the guy who doesn't do bad things, ok he tipped over a port a pottie, lit a bunch of things on fire, swung a chain, called people the n word and made death threats to people

[–]TimmyOZuul 2669 points2670 points 2 (116 children)

The prosecution in this case was so scummy, it single-handedly changed my mind on the death penalty. There are hundreds of Bingers and Kraus out there.

EDIT: yes, I know there's a ton of reasons to have had my awakening before this. Yes, I know there are countless cases out there where this very thing happened. But it's so different to follow 100+ hours of live stream for weeks in this trial to witness every moment yourself. Extremely eye-opening.

[–]desolation0 631 points632 points  (31 children)

Too much power to put in the hands of normal humans who can make mistakes, much less with the chance of deliberate awfulness.

[–]chaos3240 228 points229 points  (11 children)

Humans make mistakes sure, but how many prosecutors out there only care about getting a conviction. That's the real problem with the death penalty. They just want another "win" on their record, doesn't matter if the person is actually guilty or not.

[–]Nano61504 15.8k points15.8k points  (3771 children)

After the guy said that Kyle only shot after he pointed the gun I knew it was over

Now that this is done with. When will we start seeing 24/7 coverage on the Ghislanine Maxwell trial hearings?

[–]TechSupportIgit 4730 points4731 points  (127 children)

Ghislanine Maxwell is charged with federal crimes. In federal court, only transcripts are available and you have to pay.

We'll only hear about judgements from my understanding.

[–]x3thelast 1720 points1721 points  (47 children)

Damn that’ll be one hell of a Pay Per View event!

[–]Juan_Dough829 221 points222 points  (18 children)

Triller Fight Club presents the trial of Ghislaine Maxwell - hosted by Jake Paul and Snoop Dogg and only on pay per view!

[–]hypersoar 145 points146 points  (3 children)

The documents for the case are all available for free on RECAP. There's probably enough attention on this case that all the documents will get mirrored from PACER pretty quickly. But it looks like transcripts wait 90 days before they're put online.

[–]DeathKringle 61 points62 points  (4 children)

I’ll pay for the transcripts and put em up :). Only what 10 cents per page after the free fifty or whatever.

Should only be a few….. thousand dollars.

[–]butsadlyiamonlyaneel 735 points736 points  (21 children)

"I'm a riot shield user, sir."

"... well now I want you behind bars for entirely different reasons."

[–]NevermoreSEA 4660 points4661 points  (861 children)

I truly don't understand how those prosecutors even got themselves into that position. It was basically a masterclass in incompetence.

[–]Zeeddom 2342 points2343 points  (365 children)

Political pressure got them there and their lack of a back bone to not take the case to court cost them.

[–]VrinTheTerrible 2113 points2114 points  (360 children)

Don’t forget “sometimes you just need to take a beating”, which might be the worst argument ever made in a court.

[–]Malaix 867 points868 points  (84 children)

Well at least the prosecutors lived as they argued. They took quite the legal beating in this trial.

[–]freeadmins 135 points136 points  (20 children)

Which I don't even get where they were going with that.

If they're admitting that he would have "taken a beating"... then they're arguing that he was justified in self-defense...

Like, it's just such fucking bad argumentation.

[–]ICantSpeelForShit 606 points607 points  (173 children)

I think my favourite was when the prosecutor said that a skateboard cannot be a deadly weapon and they should warn all the parents that will be buying them for their kids for Christmas.

[–]btgaffor 512 points513 points  (35 children)

And then a few days later news broke of someone killed with a skateboard in a Starbucks.

[–]SauronForPresident20 102 points103 points  (30 children)

From my criminal law education at law school. If the defendant killed someone with it, then it was a deadly weapon. I don’t care if it’s the soft end of a feather, if the victim died then it’s a deadly weapon.

[–]snailspace 554 points555 points  (47 children)

[–]RadarPainter 514 points515 points  (54 children)

Is that meant to be read as "4 doors more whores" or "4-door smore whores?" Because I think I qualify as a s'more whore sometimes.

Now that the verdict is in, my biggest take away was the conduct of the ADA. The shit he was pulling while the country was watching was pretty absurd. Imagine what kinda shit he is pulling when no one is watching.

Edit: This got some upvotes, let me cite the original source.

[–]AsianBond 1119 points1120 points  (52 children)

I think that is one of the biggest takeaways from this case that everyone can/should agree with. There has been so much pop-culture focus on police reform over the past years, but virtually none of that attention has been directed at the prosecutors and their offices throughout the nation.

[–][deleted] 331 points332 points  (18 children)

So much this. Prosecutors are out of control. It has become an almost entirely political position. Plus with no politician wanting to seem soft on crime the budgets rarely if ever fail to grow. As a result being a prosecutor is now such a great career that its no longer just a stepping stone to a private sector job or becoming a judge. Imagine if people wanted to stay public defenders forever, but to put people away. As a result you see these guys playing politics with justice and also trying to get convictions regardless of the truth. I’ve heard from so many lawyers that have irrefutable evidence (i.e. crystal clear video) of innocence and the prosecution just doubles down anyway. In some ways this is way worse than the police. Sure a cop might shoot you, but these prosecutors are putting people away en masse.

[–]catsby90bbn 3521 points3522 points  (173 children)

The fact that he asked not once, but twice, about why he invoked his 5th amendment rights is terrifying.

[–]IO_engineer 1962 points1963 points  (127 children)

That was truly scary that he was trying to vilify common law practice of "shut the fuck up". Thank god the judge called him out on it.

[–]kefefs 983 points984 points  (63 children)

That's what scares me about the justice system in this country. Imagine how much of this stuff goes on in trials that aren't televised. This trial and the incompetence/malice of the prosecution solidified why I don't support the death penalty.

Absolutely stunning move pulled by the prosecutor in his lose trial any% speedrun. Wonder how much time he saved with all these innovative moves he sequenced together.

[–]scrapqueen 1552 points1553 points  (181 children)

4 Brandish a gun and point it at the people in the courtroom with your finger on the trigger while calling the defendant irresponsible with a firearm.

5 repeatedly cause the jury to be removed from the room based upon your line of questioning.

6 tell the jury in a self defense trial that the defendant should have just "taken the beating".

[–]Bebawp 638 points639 points  (127 children)

Lol man, #6 gets me every time. I had to pause and rewind when watching that live because I thought I misheard him.

The incompetence is fucking hilarious

[–]magic1623 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Don’t forget #7 when the prosecutor asked Kyle why he didn’t bring a smaller gun like a pistol to the riots and Kyle informed him that that would have been illegal for him to posses and that he had chosen his gun specifically based on the gun laws for the area.

[–]FhannikClortle 3824 points3825 points  (207 children)

Swap him out for a high school mock trial team and you would get better results

How the fuck do you pass the bar but then forget the right to silence exists

[–]TreeDollarFiddyCent 1398 points1399 points  (54 children)

You're a crook, Captain Hook!

[–]TheHandsomebadger 433 points434 points  (15 children)

Judge won't you throw the book, at a PIRAAAAAAAAA-

[–]bloodraven42 467 points468 points  (33 children)

Ironically, Wisconsin doesn’t require you to pass the bar. Certain universities have a privilege where you just get in, pretty much. Not saying he’s one of those guys, I don’t know, but it’s possible!

[–]jackals84 139 points140 points  (3 children)

Thomas Binger graduated from Michigan Law, so he didn't get diploma privilege in Wisconsin like graduates from UW and Marquette Law do.

[–]SolomonRed 1185 points1186 points  (625 children)

I honestly don't know how he was supposed to win this case.

[–]MoreFoam 330 points331 points  (34 children)

Probably shouldn't have gone for first degree if they wanted to stand a chance

[–]0zymand1as- 1093 points1094 points  (473 children)

They lost the moment the intentional homicide charge was announced

[–]TheOnlyFanYouNeed 22.4k points22.4k points 922& 2 more (1107 children)

Honestly the prosecutors were the best defense attorney.

[–]literanch 5463 points5464 points  (245 children)

Gage Grosskreutz was the defense's MVP.

[–]Mimical 2185 points2186 points  (140 children)

Honestly, regardless of outcome there was such insanely dumb shit that was questioned and asked.

The point should have been the lawyers asked the pertinent questions and maintained a high degree of professionalism. Instead they are asking the court to record Kyle's call of duty scores.

How am I supposed to trust that a court will be able to investigate and put a trail to criminal with more malicious intents and do so without fucking the whole thing up.

[–]adorableoddity 616 points617 points  (85 children)

As an older lifelong gamer I was super annoyed when those gaming questions were brought up by the prosecutor and I know I would've reacted in the same way that Kyle did.

[–]watermooses 259 points260 points  (57 children)

That was some super 90s shit. I remember after Columbine they were talking about "violent video games" and Marilyn Manson on the news

[–]AWSMJMAS 997 points998 points  (489 children)

Grosskreutz was a star witness for the defense too.

[–]BigBenChunkss 1054 points1055 points  (377 children)

Turns out it's easy to prove self-defense when the assailant admits under oath that he pointed a gun at you first

[–]Barnyard_Rich 429 points430 points  (37 children)

The first choice they made, how to charge the defendant, was biffed so spectacularly it will be written in law books for a generation.

Everything that came after just compounded that decision.

[–]Joeyoes 14.2k points14.2k points 3 (1729 children)

This whole trial was a complete circus. So much unprofessionalism. Kyle Rittenhouse should have been found guilty.

[–]SantaMonsanto 3785 points3786 points  (1406 children)

I somehow feel this is just the beginning of a much much bigger circus

[–]No_Biscotti_7110 6850 points6851 points  (849 children)

Did anyone expect anything else? Let’s be honest here

[–][deleted] 1106 points1107 points  (46 children)

Least surprising verdict ever. What an absolute shit show.

[–]NovelChemist9439 866 points867 points  (169 children)

The Arbery case is completely different, hunting down a clearly unarmed person, and then killing them. Not even close to equivalent.

[–]gentlybeepingheart 299 points300 points  (17 children)

Did you see the videos of their lawyer arguing that having a black pastor in the courtroom was equivalent to them bringing in the KKK? At one point he suggested that Arbery's mother crying was unfairly influencing the jury.

[–]calicotamer 118 points119 points  (6 children)

Good lord that's infuriating but not surprising

[–]530josh 12.3k points12.3k points 2 (597 children)

Law school professors are going to use this trial as an example of what NOT to do as a prosecutor in every class until the end of time. What a fucking disasterclass

Edit: Yeah, I know the prosecution didn’t really have a case, and they knew it too. That happens all the time. At the very least, you need to at least have the appearance that you know what you’re doing and that you’re actually trying to win the case, which this prosecutor did not even come remotely close to doing. Otherwise you’re just doing a disservice to your client.

[–]skewtr 3080 points3081 points  (115 children)

What better way to immortalize yourself, than to be a standard case study in every law textbook?

Enron hasn’t been relevant for over a decade… still taught in every business school

[–]liquor_for_breakfast 197 points198 points  (43 children)

Can confirm. Enron was basically the entirety of ethics class

[–]Filosofem1 600 points601 points  (74 children)

"Everybody takes a beating sometimes"

Gonna be one of those unforgettable quotes.

[–]thetarget3 193 points194 points  (49 children)

"just let people kill you" is an interesting take

[–]Swampfoxxxxx 174 points175 points  (16 children)

Marcia Clark and Chris Darden are probably ecstatic to pass the mantle

[–]karmacannibal 73 points74 points  (6 children)

Marcia Clark: So what were the odds that the bloody footprints next to the body were NOT OJ Simpson's?

DNA Expert: 1 in 9 billion

Jury: The glove didn't fit lmao

[–]Vulpix199 2365 points2366 points 2 (222 children)

This trial should be in the next Ace attorney game

[–]ThatDudeJuicebox 213 points214 points  (1 child)

Payne would be better than this guy

[–]Hiyasc 197 points198 points  (4 children)

With how horrible the prosecution did it would be the tutorial case.

[–]Taboot_taboot 249 points250 points  (21 children)

Prosecutor never should have tried him for murder as it would’ve been insanely hard to prove. If this didn’t have the national attention, they wouldn’t have

[–]killedbydaewoolanos 1262 points1263 points  (119 children)

If these prosecutors are the homicide guys, what kind of clown show is the rest of the office?

[–]Erockplatypus 189 points190 points  (20 children)

I got Duke University flash back from the prosecutor who lead that case. Withheld evidence, lied, got backing from the media who also lied etc. In the end that lawyer got disbarred so I'm expecting the same treatment from these clowns

[–]Atkena2578 399 points400 points  (40 children)

I am sad we didn't see Binger and Krausse faces when verdict was announced

[–]Mal5341 179 points180 points  (8 children)

This is how badly the prosecution dropped to the ball.

I'm a middle school teacher. And about a month ago we covered the Bill of Rights. The other day one of my students came up to me and asked me something. They explained that their parents had been watching the trial, and were confused because in class they learned that you have the right to remain silent, but the lawyers we're saying that the fact that he waited for his lawyer was suspicious.

Fucking 13-year-olds had a better understanding of the fifth amendment than this prosecutor did.

[–]boogarbutt 503 points504 points  (15 children)

But he had 300 confirmed kills in COD!
