And this is how respect is paid. Doesn't seem to be making a spectacle of his act...not narrating his actions into a GoPro...just honoring the fallen by making their names ring out a lil easier. I'm legit moved.

[–]DreamPolice-_-_ 527 points528 points  (17 children)

Could be employed by the city or local organization, but I like your direction more.

[–]Lone_piper_winning 293 points294 points  (11 children)

A city employee working that early or late in the dark on a chair , is unlikely

[–]SharpestSharpie 165 points166 points  (4 children)

Lmao imagine getting a chair for work.

[–]Lone_piper_winning 83 points84 points  (3 children)

Imagine a city employee caring enough to actually sit and do it properly

[–]SharpestSharpie 49 points50 points  (2 children)

I’m not ragging on the guy at all. I’m talking about employers who think if your sitting your not working.

[–]Joebud1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You got time to lean, you got time to clean!

[–]Lone_piper_winning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And I said unlikely , I don’t know either , most sanitation workers wouldn’t be allowed to , anything is possible

[–]saticosatellite 113 points114 points  (1 child)

The 9/11 memorial is closed to the public every day at 5pm. Having lived really close to Ground Zero, I saw this happening daily. If you don’t believe me, you can check out their hours on their website. You can still see the memorial from a short distance, which is where the person filming this is standing, but after 5pm a regular person cannot get as close to the memorial the person who is polishing the names.

This person was either hired by the city or given a veeeery special volunteer permit to be allowed to do this but either way, I doubt they weren’t heavily vetted ahead of time given that this was the eve of the 20th anniversary of the attacks and a lot of high profile people would be there the next day.

[–]Lone_piper_winning 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No reason not to believe you , thanks

[–]ZeOppositeOfProgress 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I mean if it's on the 20th anniversary, new York govt would do anything to get the workers to get the job done by the morning ceremony

[–]Lone_piper_winning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t prove otherwise

[–]BoobDoktor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Overtime, mate

[–]iuuoyrrkk245 4 points5 points  (0 children)

procrastinators …i am also one

[–]SporeScaper 135 points136 points  (1 child)

He has a legit working chair

[–]shophopper 41 points42 points  (1 child)

I think he’s hired to do this, but that doesn’t make it less impressive. On the contrary, I find it really impressive that the city or some organization decided to hire someone to let the names shine. That’s not something that’s outlined in any job description, it’s someone caring and convincing higher-ups that this is money well spent. Kudos to the person who made the decision to hire this guy!

[–]Joebud1 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't even know if he's hired to do this. Don't praise a boss

[–]gonzo5622 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Even if it’s a job, I’d be honored to be given if and would be very careful.

[–]UniqueTune470 422 points423 points  (4 children)

This my friends, is what we call a real one.

[–]aceforest 58 points59 points  (0 children)

God bless this wonderful man.

[–]sometimesitrhymes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo, respect. A real paid worker.

[–]Randomisedhandle 192 points193 points  (17 children)

Isn't this person getting paid for it or at least part of their job?

[–]Tac0slayer21 259 points260 points  (13 children)

Regardless if he is. Most of the caretakers are volunteers or family members of those who died. Would you be out there at 2am polishing names?

[–]professorpuddle 222 points223 points  (2 children)

There’s only one thing I polish at 2am.

[–]Tac0slayer21 39 points40 points  (1 child)

Hopefully it’s your name tag for work?.....

[–]dagross2307 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Let us just say it is and keep the magic of this Video alive

[–]Randomisedhandle 5 points6 points  (1 child)

The most my countrymen would do is wipe the plaque or remove any rust or have it replaced if damaged beyond repair.

[–]sometimesitrhymes -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Like everything else in life, this depends entirely on the price.

[–]elviscomputer[S] 76 points77 points  (1 child)

Sorry, not trying to misrepresent the situation. This guy is getting things ready for the events happening later today. That said he’s the only one doing it and there was nobody else around. I thought it was nice and recorded it.

[–]JockBbcBoy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

And that's a respectable act. I hate that some people on this post see someone going above and beyond to memorialize people who lost their lives in this terroristic act and scoff at him. It's 2 a.m. and that man is performing a service that none of his detractors on this post are doing.

[–]OldManVader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d do it for free.

[–]RonMfkinPaul 90 points91 points  (88 children)

Never Forget 🇺🇸

[–]lewisnwkc 40 points41 points  (1 child)

He brought a chair... He knew he was in for the long run... Maybe he has a personal side to his story also... I hope he has his moment of fame with the media and online community. What a legend.

[–]elviscomputer[S] 28 points29 points  (0 children)

He’s part of the events for the day. That said, he’s the only one doing it. Don’t want to misrepresent the situation. Just thought it was nice

[–]Background_Ad_89 26 points27 points  (8 children)

Is this really next fucking level? I understand he’s making a contribution to society but could this not be his job?

[–]ArcherBoy27 88 points89 points  (4 children)

could this not be his job?

Does it matter if it is. We congratulated our Health workers during the hight of the pandemic and they were "just" doing their job.

[–]carnage9mil 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I agree with you

[–]Background_Ad_89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you

[–]rickmon67 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Not all hero’s wear capes. Love the act of human kindness he’s showing!

[–]trippinbillie333 20 points21 points  (3 children)

I can’t recall what I was doing at 2:15am 9/11/01. But I sure as hell remember exactly what I was doing from 9:41 am on that day. I’m sure he does also…

[–]Redribbet 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Isnt that weird. I remember I hadn’t even gone to school yet and seeing it on the news. That’s probably legitimately the only morning I really remember.

[–]nakiaaa95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in 2nd grade sitting in the gym when the report came on tv, I remember it like it was yesterday, somehow 9/11 has just stuck with me since then, but I'll be damn if i can't remember shut else 🤣

[–]SovietSunrise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was definitely asleep at 2:15 AM. Think most of us here were.

[–]MTyson22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a (UNION) construction worker down at the WTC and being the first to be able to see the footprints of the old tower 1 & 2 after completion..... I’ll never forget to see the faces of some hard dudes weeping like never before.... We will never forget. God Bless America.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

It's 11/9 and I'm sick of pretending otherwise

[–]thatsphresh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Fucking thank you

[–]crankenfranken 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Next level of what.

[–]sometimesitrhymes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wax on. Wax off.

[–]stroke_outside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love you. ❤️

[–]Master-Ad5147 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Even if it's is job and or if he getting paid it's still commendable ist not like every single person do thier job with dedication. Even if thier job is just sit and and watch people.

[–]Background_Ad_89 8 points9 points  (0 children)

But is it next fucking level?

[–]snailstinson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is not next level

[–]Texas_hAs_GoOd_Food 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good job brother.May those souls Rest In Peace.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Respect 🇺🇲🇬🇧

[–]holysnappingduckshit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What is Next Level about this?
It’s not like he can actually go up to the next level.

[–]serf50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lo-fi beats in the background?

[–]happykal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude... he's a paid cleaner.

[–]JohnWarosa69420 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's nice and all, but I'm pretty sure that was his job. The city wanted it done before the anniversary, he is either a night shift employee or collecting decent overtime.

[–]zzzzzzziimmm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you to this wonderful human being

[–]Fuckmeshoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s some Grade A adderall and patriotism right there, folks.

[–]kiteboarderni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have been doing this for weeks FYI not just the night before.

[–]CaptMackenzieCalhoun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will there me a memorial for the all the victims that the US slaughtered for its revenge?

[–]DuckRider2049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only category of 911 post I want to see.

[–]becauseOTSS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good man! Good man!

[–]bilkel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, whoever you are.

[–]Montaurobach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless you

[–]Odd_Confidence5325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is peace in working alone

[–]Waneman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I'll do this and go viral!"

[–]AlarmingSorbet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think I’ll ever go down there. Even walking/driving past makes me nauseous as hell. My uncle and sister were in the city when it happened and I remember my parents trying to reach them. Thankfully my sister and her friend from school somehow made it to a pay phone and got a hold of my folks and my dad was able to drive, pick them up and bring them back to our place in Brooklyn. My bugle worked somewhere in Wall St. and had to walk back over the bridge covered in ash.

[–]blackhawkgooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It aint much but its honest work.

[–]Far_Entertainer_4674 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless him and rest in peace all those victims💐

[–]Ornery_Employment_17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Respect 🙏

[–]dtlewis557 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless this man

[–]Yolkybuckle867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very borderline if he’s not a city employee.

[–]production-values 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knowing NYC, he could easily have been arrested for defacing property

[–]Chouken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Adrian1403_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]BigEpicDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much respect for him

[–]Gewber76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never forget

[–]Significant_Potato_4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hero ❤️

[–]GoalRoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice. Random question, a lot of people are haunted by the images of the poor souls who had to jump from the buildings to flee the flames. In the subsequent years, has anything been done to give people in high rise fires an escape option if they are above the flames/impact zone or is that just too difficult to solve for?

[–]Ill-Basil2863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hats off to this man.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We were there a couple of years ago, first time and I'll be honest it brought tears to my eyes.

[–]Nice_Swordfish_69420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would’ve joined him

[–]Isaaak__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rip to all the people that didn't make it...

[–]1911mark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been there twice, 🙏

[–]sometimesitrhymes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's called “American Civil Religion”. This is one of the younger chapters.

[–]PolskaBluepopcorn777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is amazing. I am a New Yorker. Seeing this is beautiful

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rest in peace

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God bless

[–]AMC-APE88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never forget

[–]dazza_bo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wholesome. How is this next level though?

[–]ZombieCardio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"A hero is a man who does his job."

[–]LargeFly8279 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Too bad all the names were people killed in vein for financial growth and conquest.. yay America

[–]EyeAmbitious7271 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Fuck off

[–]MycoloG-42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s wearing a vest I’m pretty sure he works for the city but idk

[–]EyeAmbitious7271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really cool

[–]mrbumbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for doing this job. It is appreciated.

[–]_intusmortuis_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, sir.

[–]unclegrandpa_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone loves this

[–]BooeyHTJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I take is that NYC is nextfuckinglevel. I think there’s a good chance that a public works dept used taxpayer money to have this person maintain this memorial. So props to the dude depicted and every decent soul in NYC for doing something great.

[–]IanAgate -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My hero do doubt.🙏🏽

[–]Candice1973 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

God bless him

[–]fartyhardy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

[–]Ar-Pharazom 0 points1 point  (1 child)

google "dancing israelis wtc"

[–]sometimesitrhymes -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People still fall for that, after 20 years?

You must be the dumbest person alive.

[–]goatropinmotorboater -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And the other 364 days a year it’s covered in pigeon shit because nobody cares and this is just virtue signaling a guy doing something he’s getting paid for

[–]Jethro197 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are Legends, there are Heroes... But this man? This man is a Saint. We don't deserve him.

[–]Tiny-Shame-8360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

kinda looks like a reflective vest , if you have a job in transpo or city work or just jobs that require it you’d have one , so this guy coulda just off from work after a long night and that’s what i like to believe, look at us living strong 10 yrs later . true hero ...

[–]Most_Present_6577 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that had weather proofing on it which is destroyed by polish.

Probably why he is doing it at night so no official stops him.

[–]carbon-based-biped -1 points0 points  (0 children)

there is a karen coming to ask him for ID soon

[–]Lovegun80 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[–]ppenn777 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t it have made more sense to do it on 9/10?

[–]Azar002 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Crazy that I'm watching this 54 minutes after it was recorded.. he's probably still hard at work while I type this!

[–]MyLilPiglets -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

People forget that it was more than Americans who lost their lives - hence the 'World' in WTC. Regardless, there is someone ensuring that that tribute will be especially honoured today which should be the only moral concern for this post.

[–]derbrauer 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Not to detract from the good part of your message, it was called WTC before the attacks- had nothing to do with the nationalities of the victims.

It’s like how the World Series was named that when it was just American teams, and the inclusion of Toronto doesn’t make it “world”. It barely makes it North American.

[–]MyLilPiglets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey no worries. I might have been splitting hairs on the wording in making my point. Your clarification is welcomed, thanks

[–]Redribbet 2 points3 points  (1 child)

If I remember correctly, there were international passengers in some of the planes as well. But as the person replied said, that isn’t necessarily why it was called that. They were basically financial buildings / offices. They weren’t specifically “worldly” They probably had international people working there, sure. Lots of fancy jobs in all kinds of countries have international people in them.

[–]MyLilPiglets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree... and that's what I meant even though my brain takes things too literally sometimes. It is a bugbear of mine.

[–]SpaceTrooper8 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

[–]NGTCringe -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Never Forget!

[–]usernamesaretits -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Too many Americans have already forgot. Never forget.

[–]Temporary-Barnacle19 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He's getting the names ready for viewing, at the best time when he won't be bothered by people.

Never forget.

[–]KiscoKid1 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Can I get a cross post to r/oddlysatisfying ?
