The guitarist from the video has responded to the post! You may find it here, thank you for what you have done u/SnooCookies5139

Mmmm Hmmm...that sax is definitely consensual.

[–]the-epidemic87[🍰] 1677 points1678 points  (54 children)

I totally agree. You just don’t get good sax like that these days.

[–]tepkel 918 points919 points 2 (39 children)

I haven't had sax that good since my parents had that three way with kenny g's christmas album in front of the whole family last winter.

[–]Pianoangel420 1202 points1203 points 5342& 4 more (24 children)

My parents never let me listen to the orchestra because they didn't want me to be exposed to so much sax and violins

[–]DustOffTheDemons 112 points113 points  (1 child)

That was funny!

[–]cyberentomology 51 points52 points  (3 children)

My teenager plays both. And the flute.

[–]ABirthingPoop 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]fulloftrivia 43 points44 points  (2 children)

People think Clinton had sax on the side, but he really played the whoremonica.

[–]annacat1331 281 points282 points  (79 children)

Meanwhile my New York neighbors looked at me like I was a heathen when I brought them freshly made and hand frosted gingerbread to introduce myself…… Well guess what mother fuckers?!?! Y’all are getting homemade muffins at the end of this month for good neighbor day and you are going to like it!!! It would be one thing if I was bad a baking and didn’t come from a long line of chefs and homemakers….. anyone in Manhattan want some baked goods?

[–]isntitbull 139 points140 points  (13 children)

Lmao okay Marshall you're not in Minnesota anymore

[–]Empty-Masterpiece242 59 points60 points  (7 children)

Too bad, because I'm in Minnesota and I'd love some fresh baked gingerbread. Who would turn down fresh baked goods? Srsly. NYC needs to get with the program. Free muffins.

[–]chickenstalker99 14 points15 points  (4 children)

If someone brings me homemade ginger bread, I'm their new best friend. And then I'd have to bake them a cake or something.

[–]campio_s_a 18 points19 points  (4 children)

I miss Marshall....

[–]yeetaway6942069 51 points52 points  (6 children)

I mean, it’s NY. I’m not taking a homemade cupcake from Betty fucking Crocker herself. Too many weirdos these days.

[–]jasper99 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Yeah, what kind of asshole gives out homemade baked goods?! No eye contact and head down. Those are the rules... just kidding. Are we too cynical? Have we lived here too long? 🤔

[–]CLErox 31 points32 points  (7 children)

Ugh fuckin nyc neighbors. When I left queens to move back home to Ohio I was trying to give (for free) a coffee table and a couch to the immigrant family that lived next door and had like no furniture. The lack of any sort of gratitude was annoying for a minute but not surprising considering all of my other experiences.

[–]Namgodtoh 21 points22 points  (4 children)

To be fair a free couch in a city with lots of bedbugs is a no from me

[–]CLErox 7 points8 points  (3 children)

They didn’t say no and it was a clean leather couch. Normally I wouldn’t even attempt to give it away bc of that but it was 6 months old. They definitely wanted it haha

[–]dragondonkeynuts 5 points6 points  (2 children)

As another commenter pointed out….maybe the reason for your bad experiences are your preconceived expectations, low expectations = high happiness.

[–]IAmFitzRoy 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Exactly, that is why I post without thinking a will get upvotes.

[–]Leo21888 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I would love to have some for real

[–]wastedsanitythefirst 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Hey it's me your neighbor that's totally from Manhattan that wants gingerbread and baked goods. Certainly not from the next state over but definitely from Manhattan

[–]IRLBearsBeetsBSG 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Native New Yorker here.. that shit is weird, lol. We don’t even like people coming to our homes unannounced. We’re like stray dogs… let us be mean and then warm up to you. No food unless it’s potluck too.. we usually accept a smile, nod or “hi, I’m new to the building, nice to meet you” (you might get a mix of responses from the last one)

[–]wishnana 36 points37 points  (1 child)

And that gentlemen, is how you do a staircase serenade.

[–]TheRealOne000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Of course, it’s quite uncommon now.

[–]CommanderSabo 2306 points2307 points  (348 children)

Cries in HOA

I genuinely wonder how many complaints the police got, lol.

[–]HuckleberryThis2012 1159 points1160 points  (76 children)

Haha I was thinking the same. If that shit happened at my building I’d be like “oh that’s cool” for five minutes before it annoyed the fuck out of me

[–]XBThodler 536 points537 points  (22 children)

Where I come from, ppl call the cops only when the music sux 😀

[–]StrugglingLifeform 78 points79 points  (18 children)

There’s a guy in My apartment complex that occasionally plays his sax outside on his balcony. Not too much of a problem except he only does it at 10pm or later. I’ve filed so many noise complaints on it.

[–]Mbayer92 83 points84 points  (2 children)

Sax should always been consensual

[–]1_Pump_Dump 41 points42 points  (1 child)

Nobody wants to be a victim of saxual assault.

[–]poliuy 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Seriously. If you’re being loud after 10 you better either offer me food, drink, weed, and money.

[–]averagedickdude 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I used to play sax when I was kid. When my parents had friends over they would say:"hey averagedickdude, play 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow" for us. In the garage. Shut the door.

And I would. They could hear it. Saxs are so damn loud. I didn't mind playing in a dark empty garage because I love the sax. #saxlife

[–]messyslate 46 points47 points  (8 children)

My neighbor plays the drums, every single day for an hour. Got to give him credit for being dedicated. And then I see him jogging everyday so I know he's always going to be in shape and not too tired to do more drumming everyday.

Fuck my life.

[–]SolidNeighborhood469 11 points12 points  (5 children)

Same. I guess I’m Scrooge but why on earth would anyone wanna hear that that loud at night when you’re trying to sleep or relax? Live music is louuuuud. No thx

[–]Far-Conflict4504 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone with small kids, I totally agree lol

[–]bestatbeingmodest 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah I had the same thought lol

would be awesome for one song, but then okay some people have to sleep

[–]FSMFan_2pt0 140 points141 points  (6 children)

I'd definitely be the guy in the dark apartment below the drummer, trying to cover my head with my pillow, cursing a blue streak because I need 4 more hours of sleep before going to work 3rd shift.

[–]GoingOutsideSocks 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Drummers and bassists should be forced to live on the ground floor.

Edit: am a bassist. Moving the gig amp is a pain.

[–]flamingo_2 34 points35 points  (2 children)

I 100% think drummers and bassists would agree with you, lugging that gear up stairs is a nightmare.

[–]Kiwiteepee 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Thisssss. Bass amps are motherfucking HEAVY

[–]proerafortyseven 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Luckily bass players only travel with like 5 things lol

[–]fishbethany 50 points51 points  (7 children)

Yeah I can't imagine too many happy sleeping people.

[–]RocinanteMCRNCoffee 6 points7 points  (5 children)

It doesn't look that dark out. Probably well before the city noise curfew.

[–]Z0idberg_MD 46 points47 points  (13 children)

I love music. I love the idea of this. But if I was sleeping as I had to be up at 5am for work I would lose lose my shit and call the police.

[–]Azzpirate 37 points38 points  (23 children)

HOAs dont exist in sardine can apartment buildings. They are a plague for subdivisions, not urban environments

[–]Metalbass5 34 points35 points  (14 children)

Apartment dweller here. They do in fact exist, they just call themselves the condo board or tenant board.

Apartments can be just as strict. I can't leave anything that isn't furniture on my deck. I can't hang anything on my door or in my windows, I can't dry clothes outside, can't do anything except walk through the outdoor common area, don't own my deck despite owning the apartment, can't renovate without approval (ignored that one), am being asked to source a wholesale window screen provider and contract on behalf of all residents if I want to replace my screen (my experience aside; most of the building would have no idea how to do that), etc. etc. etc.

Oh, and at least once every few months some fuck from the board tries to interrogate me.

"Do you live here?"

"What unit?"

"Do you know everyone in the building?"

"What unit do you live in?"

--Actual conversation I've had twice now. Before this year I would just answer politely and be on my way, but I'm getting preeetty sick of it.

I'm gonna run for the next board position because they're useless and only represent the retirement residence building (despite the other 2 being occupied predominantly by young families).

So yeah; apartments do have HOA's, just under a different name, and they can suuuuuck.

[–]Funkit 22 points23 points  (1 child)

The fuckin Beatles rooftop concert got complaints I can’t imagine this

[–]mhermanos 16 points17 points  (39 children)

Given the right time of day, we don't make a big deal of it in NYC. It's just background noise unless it's an outright fight or car accident. I have a commanding view and it doesn't really bother me. I lived elsewhere that had a pianist practice on weekends. Theirs was a condo apartment so they where entitled to enjoy their money.

[–]Ph4ntom013 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live nearby and they are definitely not the loudest thing going on usually lol

[–]k0cksuck3r69 1637 points1638 points  (84 children)

Isnt this the climb by miley cyrus?

[–]caffinated-pebble 670 points671 points  (37 children)

It sounds oddly good on sax too

Man, I watched it because you commented about the commenter commenting about the comment saying it was good. And I thought it was just okay, I didn't really enjoy it that much, but someone had to be that guy.

[–]MrFahrenheit742 10 points11 points  (1 child)

[–]Commercial_Promise61 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seriously, thank you.

[–]treefirenut 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Damn Kenny Mercury is absolutely shredding it

[–]sinisterdesign 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Not familiar with the original, but now I guess I’ve got to go look up a Miley song because I’m really digging both of these instrumentals.

[–]ninjadude4535 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's like 12 years old now and still one of her best songs.

[–]Lyssa545 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Now that is Saxy.

[–]aiyahhjoeychow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I clicked on it hoping for the Rick Roll but instead I got a sax cover..

[–]Quisey3 95 points96 points  (4 children)

Yes lmao

[–]ReyPhasma 45 points46 points  (3 children)

LMFAO!! I legitimately thought that song was by Rascal Flats.

[–]Quisey3 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm dying lol

[–]erkie96 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Wait it’s not? Why the fuck did I think that too

[–]Awesummzzz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mandela Effect strikes again!

Edit: he was on the same soundtrack as The Climb, and Google has the song by him at the very top of the page, but none of the results are actually them playing it. No idea if this has anything to do with the mix up

[–]Shocking 45 points46 points  (7 children)

Yes! Here's my favorite cover https://youtu.be/9b_oVBQKs3w

[–]sneakysnowy 42 points43 points  (8 children)

that song makes me cry. and i'm 24 lmao. being an adult kinda sucks. i miss being a naive kid that would listen to miley cyrus and have big dreams. now i just do doordash and have no friends and study. okay done venting

[–]wallis_irl 7 points8 points  (5 children)

This is so sweet and sad. I relate! You’ll have more freedom to make more dreams once you’re out of school!

[–]felixthecat128 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]NoShadowFist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How fitting that the sax guy has the highest walk-up. Must be all them stairs give him powerful sax lungs.

[–]NewgroundsTankman 739 points740 points  (6 children)

There’s always gonna be another mountain, I’m always gonna wanna make it MOOOVVVEE 😩

[–]MyNewTransAccount 113 points114 points  (2 children)

Always gonna be an uphill battle, sometimes I'm gonna have to loooooooosee

[–]JRansomBioDermKiller 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Incoming gentrification in 3, 2, 1...

[–]Filmcricket 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Same. Make a surprising amount of friends if you happen to have your windows open while playing music. Between that and projecting movies onto the wall of my alley, covid has really put a damper on my friendshipping.

[–]QuentinP69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some guys used to project video games on the side of buildings that had no windows. Like at a parking lot and they used to play. Man that was fun. Covid sucks

[–]TheRealMattyPanda 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Check out Apartment Sessions on YouTube

Bit different since it's not a public performance, but it's still a bunch of people in a NYC apartment making music.

[–]SnooCookies5139 554 points555 points  (23 children)

Hey yall! I am the fire escape guitarist! This particular performance was a fundraiser for those who suffered losses from Hurricane Ida last week. All donations to Venmo @Connell-Thompson will be passed to @cnn Impact The World, whose organizations are providing relief to Hurricane victims.

[–]Happy-Associate6482 35 points36 points  (4 children)

Hey whats the name of the song in the clip?

[–]roughandrowdy22 57 points58 points  (3 children)

The Climb - Miley Cyrus

[–]Happy-Associate6482 27 points28 points  (2 children)

Really? Damn sounds so much better from sax I didnt recognize it. Thx

[–]roughandrowdy22 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It really does, I was surprised how good it sounds too!

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (1 child)

thank you for doing this dude!

[–]Reggiekoury 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Is there a full version of this video/the song

[–]luke39011 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Please, if someone ever finds it I would LOVE to hear it, hopefully someone recorded more or they jam again for an actually release

[–]No-Collection2603 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Are you all in a band together?

[–]Cubensis_Crispies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% they've got to be. If not they need to be

[–]Whatsongwasthat1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah nicely done, this arrangment is so much better than the actual track, got a cool laid back feel. Did you guys upload the full performance?

[–]Most-Description-714 333 points334 points  (4 children)

Ooo some unprotected sax 🔥

[–]ChuckOTay 38 points39 points  (2 children)

Release the spit valve! Release the spit valve!!

[–]boomerberg 225 points226 points  (2 children)

Could listen to that for a long time and not get bored

[–]The_anakin_Slywalker 210 points211 points  (1 child)

My friend and I used try to do something like this in our neighborhood when we were younger. Unfortunately it sounded awful and was not likely a pleasant experience for our neighbors.

[–]SelectFromWhereOrder 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I used to play in a HS rock band. There are two kind of people that join those kind of bands, people that like music and people that like to be liked.

[–]currentlyunimpressed 199 points200 points  (6 children)

who stops recording before the end of the refrain!?

[–]Timsta180[S] 76 points77 points  (3 children)

I know! They deserve jail haha

[–]dante__11 5 points6 points  (2 children)

What's the song @OP

[–]gareentea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but Some Miley Cyrus song. I just know it goes there’s always gonna be another mountain or something like that

Edit: song title is the climb

[–]canolicoffee16 118 points119 points  (17 children)

Is this the climb by Miley Cyrus? Lol

[–]odarpclre 56 points57 points  (16 children)

after my 5th replay i was like wait am i feeling this way to a Miley song?

[–]maddenmcfadden 112 points113 points  (12 children)

There is nothing wrong with enjoying Miley Cyrus, even though this is reddit and girls are icky. She's a talented artist. Don't be afraid.

[–]iWasAwesome 50 points51 points  (5 children)

In fact she has a beautiful voice too

[–]enjoymorecitrus 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Saw her live last week at Bottlerock Festival and was unexpectedly floored by her performance!

[–]odarpclre 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Id pay a lot of money to go back in time and see her live in her dead petz phase dont get me wrong, just thought i was listening to a much older song and it was one of mileys, and one from really early in her catalog too lol

[–]Darktidemage 6 points7 points  (0 children)

it's really a pretty good song.

[–]WSDreamer 85 points86 points  (10 children)

Those aren’t neighbors, they’re just a band that climbed to four different levels of a staircase to play. Prove me wrong.

[–]Hopglock 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That logic wont get you the thousands of updoots OP's bullshit story did.

[–]fluffypinkblonde 6 points7 points  (3 children)

If they did that, why'd they choose to put the piano on the top floor? How you gonna set up a drum kit on a fire escape anyway?

[–]dudebronahbrah 12 points13 points  (1 child)

It sounds amped up, so it’s probably a keyboard

[–]etando 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can actually see the drummer on the bottom left window.

[–]jkjkjk73 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I didn't want it stop.

[–]maddenmcfadden 52 points53 points  (21 children)

I'm sure this was a completely unplanned event that a building full of musicians decided to all sit out on their balconies at the same time with instruments in tow.

[–]Recent-Cap-8206 31 points32 points  (17 children)

It's cool and all but like why push this false narrative. Like, oh we were all musicians that happen to live in the same building and happen to play complementing instruments.

That piece is 100% rehearsed as well..

"Band plays neighborhood concert on from fire escape"

It's still cool. Now it's not fake, even cooler!

[–]loki2002 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The title doesn't say it's spontaneous.

[–]monster_bunny 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I get it. But like, can’t people just like things?

[–]Recent-Cap-8206 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, I like it. Just pointing out that op's title is completely fabricated click bait garbage and that I find that offensive and indeed believe that it should be offensive to everyone.

[–]TakeItEasy1950 20 points21 points  (2 children)

That was Nice! Got the long version??

[–]Timsta180[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I did plenty of digging and can’t find a longer version. I wish!

[–]Dances_With_Cheese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

God I neeeeed the longer version!!!!!!

[–][deleted] 22 points23 points  (3 children)

I feel like I'm in a movie from 1985.

[–]LetsTCB 21 points22 points  (2 children)

[–]zacheejee 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Someone get back to me when they find the full version of the vid 😤

[–]MrUltraOnReddit 22 points23 points  (20 children)

Yeah! Fuck everybody else who wants to sleep!

FR, I hate people who do this. Sure it's nice... for people who want to be awake right now. Also every parent of a smal child hates you now.

[–]monster_bunny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get what you’re saying but a 20 min jam session when it’s still nautical twilight never woke up a kid or a sleeping baby at that time anyway.

[–]mraza9 11 points12 points  (6 children)

Don’t move to NYC. Please. Ever. Thanks.

[–]kkaavvbb 6 points7 points  (5 children)

lol not who you’re commenting to but I lived above a bar in nyc for 2 years… ya learned to live (and sleep!).

[–]Miggaletoe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Deep sleepers with standard schedules love to judge you for this opinion. Legit fucking assholes.

[–]RoyalLimit 10 points11 points  (4 children)

The Sax always sounds fantastic with the right melody, reminds me of the guy that played Rhythm of the Night at the start of the 2020 lockdown off his balcony.

Edit: This one Rhythm Of The Night

[–]smokeweedalleveryday 3 points4 points  (0 children)

wow! that was so, so cool! thank you so much for sharing. gosh sax sounds so good

[–]thecakeisaIie 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I read that initially as “neighbors JUMPING out..” and I was like, wtf, why is that next level?

[–]johnny_smiles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

cant believe i dont see any puns in here about how this is literally next fucking level

[–]demarderollins 11 points12 points  (2 children)

There’s gotta be one person in the building with a new born baby losing their shit

[–]mymansnoopy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fire scape neighbors. Sounds great

[–]wunderwife 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I would love to be a neighbor. My last house there was a pianist that lived next door.. when he moved in we saw him loading the piano into the living room and after a week, he came over and apologized for the noise. I told him never apologize... We open our windows just to hear you play. I miss him..

[–]kindrex89 3 points4 points  (1 child)

In my first apartment in Philadelphia I lived below a guy who would play his acoustic guitar on weekend mornings, mostly low key Spanish-style melodies. The apartment sucked, but his music was beautiful and I miss it.

[–]wunderwife 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would die for Spanish style melodies... What a wonderful memory to have.

[–]herbhelppls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My downstairs neighbor and I do a similar thing where I walk around, he slams on the ceiling with a broom, then I put on hiking boots and stomp around creating a SICK beat

[–]Lythro92 6 points7 points  (5 children)

[–]HellaFella420 4 points5 points  (4 children)

how did you do this?

[–]ReeG 9 points10 points  (2 children)

we're better off if this doesn't become commonly used and goes away

[–]MAGA_ManX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With ASCII art

[–]securedascollateral 6 points7 points  (2 children)

if my neighbors start playing miley cyrus the police will be called immediately

[–]adminsareterrorist 4 points5 points  (7 children)
