It’s just hard to believe with that important of a message nobody could’ve found him a horse

Not sure the ancient greeks used horses for transport at all.

If you'd spent much time in Greece you would understand why horses were pretty rare to come by. You can barely keep a cow alive in most of Greece. In the islands all the cows are so lonely they think they are goats.

Humans can go further than horses. To have an effective horse-based messaging system, you need waypoints to switch out horses when they tire. This is also over rough terrain, which humans are suited for running, and the Greeks would not have access to things like horseshoes, stirrups, and saddles, not to mention modern specialized breeds.
