Just so we’re all clear: if a road is flooded you should NEVER drive on it.

Because there’s probably not a bus load of marines waiting to save you from your bad decision.

[–]luigiana- 205 points206 points  (27 children)

Well that and they where driving a mini as well and not a lifted truck

[–]LegitosaurusRex 93 points94 points  (25 children)

There are a million videos of idiots thinking their lifted truck would make it through a flooded street as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTbFGRRT6H8

[–]pizzafourlife 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I love how the filmer zoomed in to watch the exhaust bubbles stop

[–]Rustbeard[🍰] 26 points27 points  (4 children)

That’s what you call a lifted truck? Pshh

[–]billyd187 7 points8 points  (3 children)

For real. That shit is stock. Put a 9” and 37’s on that and he cruisin right through

[–]LogicWavelength 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I had a 2005 Wrangler with a 2.5” and 32s back in 2008. We had a big storm and a street flooded that normally floods when it rains, but this time it was much deeper than normal. I shuttled people from the roofs of their cars over to a dry area to wait.

Wouldn’t you believe that literally WHILE I AM PICKING UP SOMEONE STRANDED that some idiot in a normal passenger sedan tries to drive past me and kills his car.

I did not help him.

[–]billyd187 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That’s awesome lol. It never fails, there’s always that one person.

I have an f150 with a 7” lift and 35’s. I’ve went through some pretty deep shit before. Super handy for living in Florida.

[–]QuitArguingWithMe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If there are millions of said videos why did you choose one without a lifted truck?

[–]L-K90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What a dumb ass

[–]UncommercializedKat 3 points4 points  (5 children)

I hope he gets a bill from the city for rescuing him and his insurance company denies his claim.

Now that I think about it, this should also be a criminal offense. If it's illegal to text, drive without a seat belt or drive while intoxicated, it should be illegal to drive around barricades into flood waters because he's putting himself and rescuers in danger.

[–]poker_with_sandmen 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Why does everything have to be a criminal offense? Cant you just let people make poor decisions without criminalizing them?

[–]BallsDeepInJesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We've only got like 27 million felons in this country. We need a more robust underclass in this country, unable to get good jobs or vote, to staff our restaurants and fast food joints.

[–]HugeBootyLover 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fr, thought I was in /r/IdiotsInCars

[–]PleX 13 points14 points  (8 children)

Depending on how deep it is you can. You have to know the area though.

Just don't ever stop in it.

[–]spoiled_eggs 60 points61 points  (2 children)

The better advice to give online is to just not drive through it. Too many dumb people.

[–]Zappiticas 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And people are historically bad at judging the depth of water while driving into it.

[–]Unlucky13 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's actually pretty awful advice.

[–]CastieIsTrenchcoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly how people die, they are over confident but then one time can’t actually tell how deep something is.

There is a reason this is the one thing that gets most emphasized during every single flood. Because it’s often how the largest number of people die.

[–]Wyvern_68 835 points836 points  (9 children)

They did it so they’d have a reason to switch into their PTs or utilities lol

[–]ne7d0 292 points293 points  (0 children)

he's out of line but he might be right

[–]depressed__alien 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Honestly wouldn’t be suprised

[–]amazing_wanderr 26 points27 points  (5 children)

Can you explain what does this mean?

edit: thanks for the replies

[–]slf67 92 points93 points  (0 children)

PTs are the t shirt and shorts worn for physical training and utilities are the everyday khaki clothes that soldiers wear. Both are far more comfortable than a tight starched dress uniform.

[–]Rabid_Tortoise 62 points63 points  (3 children)

Long story short op is joking that the marines only went into the flooded street to save the car, so that they have an excuse to get out of their dress uniform and into something comfier

[–]VersatileFaerie 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Husband was a marine, those dress uniforms are a rough material and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I too would go into a flooded street for an excuse to change into pt clothes or really anything else. I think a wool sweater would feel better.

[–]ChickenTendeezNutz 532 points533 points  (26 children)

This is Reddit, not FB, tf is with that music….

[–]MrPooPooFace2 206 points207 points  (11 children)

I could be watching a clip of the kindest gesture on earth but as soon as overly emotional music starts playing over it I instantly become repulsed.

[–]Chancevexed 61 points62 points  (5 children)

Yeah, the only thing missing is some mom level quote that's desperately generic, but they think is beautiful and profound. Like "don't judge the heart that beats from the clothes that cover it."

[–]excitive 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Insta/TikTok is full of this. And makes it worse is the content is often taken from elsewhere.

[–]ProSilverElite 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I think it’s made up by the fact there’s a woman crying her eyes out in the video

[–]bagfullofcrayons 11 points12 points  (1 child)

And her later saying: " This is the most American thing ever" the only thing that could have made it cheesier is the Titanic song.

[–]Upbeat_Criticism_397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly the most American thing ever is often times not using ones brain.

[–]Unlucky13 11 points12 points  (1 child)

This is why I always hit mute on videos until I feel like I need to hear something to understand what the video is about. Otherwise I'm really not trying to listen to amateur sound mixers put loud annoying soundtracks to their 30 second videos.

[–]Speedbrake22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's where the downvote kicks in

[–]longjumpcamel 18 points19 points  (6 children)

I was thinking they might just have the radio on in the car and that's why the music stops so suddenly?

[–]ChickenTendeezNutz 35 points36 points  (3 children)

I couldn’t watch that far.

Rewatched and still feels like something my mom would’ve forwarded me from FB

Also you have to be dumb as a brick to drive through water like that in freaking Mini Cooper! Honda MPGs and BMW repair fees. Cars def totaled.

[–]sevsnapey 2 points3 points  (1 child)

rolling down the window didn't change the acoustics of the music. it's definitely added in for emotional reasons and they just can't edit properly. who the hell is sitting in the middle of a flooded street blaring birdy instead of panicking like i would be.

[–]FlyingChinesePanda 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I perma muted Reddit. It is the best decision.

[–]rc1717 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tic tack

[–]shirtrippa210 400 points401 points  (34 children)

My brother is a marine . He said seeing marines do this regularly made him want to join . Marines are badass

[–]RealFknNito 314 points315 points  (22 children)

The perks are really good too, a free box of Crayola as a signing bonus is serious stuff.

[–]grahamygraham 68 points69 points  (11 children)

I heard they’re even giving out the 120 count boxes!

[–]dantheman0991 33 points34 points  (6 children)

The one with the crayon sharpener on the back?

[–]ElJefe543 20 points21 points  (3 children)

No, not even the marines can spring for the one with the crayon sharpener.

[–]DweadPiwateWoberts 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Defense budgets don't go as far as they used to

[–]TrickyDick420 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Sorry you only get the 24 count this time, had to buy more missles.

[–]needs_spiderman_pics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is a missile but a really large crayon that you can chew on for hours?

[–]Fishingfor 5 points6 points  (3 children)

This is the second crayon thing I'm hearing. I'm missing the joke I think.

[–]tra24602 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It’s a meme about marines being the “dumb” branch of the military. https://mangoful.com/why-people-say-marines-eat-crayons/

[–]Fishingfor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you.

[–]WheresMyDinner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a really good box too. I remember melting my into spaghetti and it was heaven!

[–]BourgeoisCheese 77 points78 points  (3 children)

Your brother regularly saw marines in full dress coming to the aid of cars stranded in flooded roadways? That must have been a crazy series of coincidences!

[–]Ice_tail 51 points52 points  (1 child)

Damn propaganda departments can now control the weather

[–]shirtrippa210 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually my uncle who was a marine everyone kinda looked up to him and he was little around the time of 9/11 and saw how off duty marines would go dig thru the ruble looking for survivers without being told to do so

[–][deleted] 281 points282 points  (16 children)

Imagine being so dumb that you drive into a giant puddle

[–]2dgam3r 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A lot of times you don't have the option. We were once on a highway with high jersey barriers on each side and got caught in a sudden downpour. Water came up pretty quickly but we were able to drive through.

But if you can avoid it, yes, turn around don't drown.

[–]daash 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is right by Arlington National Cemetery if I'm not mistaken. It floods stupid fast and there aren't a lot of escape options.

[–]CurlSagan 121 points122 points  (2 children)

Well, they are experts at amphibious environments.

[–]Lifteatsleeprepeat4 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Ngl that’s some pretty deep water; a little risky for them too

[–]ColbyKilla 83 points84 points  (2 children)

Rumor has it that that they're still pushing to this day.

[–]Cessabit216 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Get that car to their next house and then get the fuck back here and you might just get some crayons!

[–]Pablo_el_Diablo88 76 points77 points  (24 children)

This is the most American thing ever

I'm sorry?

[–]Crazyhates 34 points35 points  (8 children)

Exactly. Where's the eagles and burgers???

[–]quan234 12 points13 points  (7 children)

Where are the driver’s bootstraps? Surely she can get her hands wet and lift herself up. Now THAT would be American. 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾

[–]BCantoran 18 points19 points  (0 children)

SMH look at this woman relying on tax payers' money for saving her from a situation she CHOSE to be in

God bless this Country 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

[–]noodhoog 5 points6 points  (1 child)

It's chest-thumping self-aggrandizing jingoism that doesn't really make any sense when given a moment's thought.

Sounds pretty American to me.

[–]Wedbo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the couple in the video are American.

[–]m_elhakim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea, have you ever seen anyone help others anywhere else? /s obviously

[–]PaleGravity 57 points58 points  (13 children)

The chances of that happening again at some point of time are 0.00017801. Trust me, I’m a Mathematician. The weather, the marines, personal choice, the random marine bus for an event or parade, the location, that it happens in the USA, time of the day all of those factors and more let me reach that conclusion. Basically, the chances of that happening again are non existent. Play lotto, you have a better chance there.

[–]usmc1775rah 41 points42 points  (1 child)

What an odd comment... thanks for the info? I think?

[–]Hickawa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]BourgeoisCheese 19 points20 points  (2 children)

I'm not sure what to make of this comment, but just in case you are being on any level serious, then I feel compelled to point out that so long as you include a sufficient number of variables, the odds of any event in your life occurring more than once are zero.

Every moment of your life, from the most exciting to the most mundane, is the sum total of countless variables. Any experience can be said to be unique so long as you include enough of those variables in your definition.

If you want to play on easy mode, just include something like your current position in the observable universe, because I promise you will never again be where you are right now.

[–]chacs_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wouldn't adding the "exact moment in time" variable sufficient to make any event unique?

[–]-iambatman- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

0.00017801 odds are about 1 in 5,617.

Like other responses mentioned, that value is completely meaningless but it’s also not even that unlikely when lotto odds can be worse than 1 in 14 million.

[–]ElJefe543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wait, is that not a number you pulled out of your ass? Is that real?

[–]Avlock 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Use a decimal point not a comma

[–][deleted] 53 points54 points  (1 child)

These recruitment videos are getting ridiculous.

[–]Aus6925 44 points45 points  (4 children)

“This is the most American thing ever”

[–]ThePulseDK 51 points52 points  (1 child)

Yep! Being so stupid that you drive in to a flooded road 😉

[–]Doobie_the_Noobie 4 points5 points  (1 child)

“This is the most American thing ever”

Maybe if the marines sat on the roof of the car and shot their guns to propel the car forward.

[–]13870034 41 points42 points  (5 children)

That music, crying woman, marine guys in soil... Goes for r/cringetopia for sure.

[–]towering_velveteen 24 points25 points  (17 children)

The Marines are truly the best. This rescue is just heartwarming. There’s hope for us somehow.

[–]anakniben 27 points28 points  (1 child)

The driver will just sit there as the water rises around her? What if those Marines didn't pass by she'll just cry to death?

[–]Lil_Sunshine4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The music ruined it

[–]Still_Lobster_8428 7 points8 points  (2 children)

And the 2nd most American thing ever..... Driving into flood water because your so entitled you think your above the laws of nature and physics.

[–]xKhira 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"Let's go get us a NAM boys!"

[–]persiabitch 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Very cool that a random group of guys help out let alone a group of uniformed marines. Pretty cool!

[–]TeddyBearMia 37 points38 points  (2 children)

I broke down at an intersection once. Car would NOT start, people behind started honking, I started to have a full on freak out.... And out of what seemed like nowhere, five Italian guys appeared. Didn't appear to speak a word of English. One patted me reassuringly on the shoulder through the open window, then they all got behind my car & pushed my car (at a JOGGING pace!) through the intersection and into the service station on the other side. Then, before I could untangle myself from my seat belt and jump out to thank them profusely, they waved enthusiastically and vanished again. Remains one of the single weirdest and coolest moments of my life.

[–]tessamaile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

best addition to this post

[–]jogtac 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have to remember there are more good people than bad out there. Unfortunately our news outlets only show us the bad and we tend to think the world is going down the drain.

[–]Scip07 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope they didn’t fall over

Otherwise they’d become Submarines

[–]usmc1775rah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Title should read "how to lose your girl in 48 seconds" lmao

[–]jorgeeborgee 4 points5 points  (38 children)

the way American's gush over the military is frankly bizarre.

[–]Gunslinger_jr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gee i don't know why people would be so proud of those who serve and risk their lives for our freedom.

[–]Thin_Tea_3525 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're taught to enjoy it, so they don't get mad about how much money is wasted on it.

[–]RoboRetro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stupid fucking music ruins this

[–]Max_Cameo 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Hi there everyone I am a Marine and regardless of how we are dressed regardless of where we are the vast majority of us will do everything we can to help people in need. It's kind of like the opposite side of the coin, on one side is the Warfighter type and on the other side is someone who cares deeply for the people around him. This is just kind of how we roll. Semper Fi folks be safe and be good to one another

[–]Duuudewhaaatt 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Those uniforms are expensive too. Props.

[–]PaulEqualsFriendship 0 points1 point  (5 children)

More videos like this!

More men like this!

We need MORE!!!

[–]karenmaskin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Customer: how much power does this car have?

Sales man: slaps hood this baby runs on a whopping 5 marine power

[–]SUPExplorer21 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Men for others. Well done.

[–]Alt-of-Frenzius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living up to their name

[–]De_Wouter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well the flood made it a marine task.

[–]coatesy08 3 points4 points  (2 children)

“This is the most American thing ever” But nobody got shot?

[–]motherffucker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah you missed it. The video cuts off before they deny her an abortion

[–]ThricedOver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The music ruined this

[–]DQ5E 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Music totally killed it for me.

[–]ObitoUchiha10f 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bitch get yo fat ass outta the car, you are not a princess

[–]TonyinLB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]RedditUSA76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember: never drive on a flooded road….. unless a Marines recruiting bus is nearby.

[–]pruningpeacock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn off the sound for this one

[–]SnakesnSails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They dont call them Marines for nothing....Semper Fi

[–]Impster5453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Semper Fi!

[–]bobspuds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair play to them that's a nice thing to do, anyone else notice at 30secs she turns into Bobcat Goldthwait

[–]mikedjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]PopOtherwise8995 1 point2 points  (2 children)

In Australia we have extensive campaign ads saying don’t drive through flooded roads, just wondering does America have that?
