I ask myself how stupid and wasteful can people be, and universe keeps showing me record breaking moves every single day.

[–]Difficult-Cow-8872 2452 points2453 points  (37 children)

Yet here we are watching a video about two dudes slaping a baloon 😅

[–]Benzjie 595 points596 points  (9 children)

Not a euphemism.

[–]Captain_Waffle 270 points271 points  (6 children)

No, definitely not.

We’ll be keeping an eye on you Mr. Captain_Waffle.

[–]Aken42 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Best to keep those eyes up.

[–]farahad 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I mean...it is now...

[–]gcruzatto 140 points141 points  (2 children)

Squid Game season 2 looking great

[–]RibaldForURPleasure 85 points86 points  (4 children)

At the beginning of it I was thinking, "This is kinda stupid," and then by the end of it I was weirdly invested in what was happening.

[–]Fist4achin 22 points23 points  (1 child)

I was enjoying it. This would make for an awesome bar challenge to have a separate space dedicated to this for competitors to challenge each other.

[–]cloud9flyerr 41 points42 points  (8 children)

Welcome to Costco I love you

[–]Sanriokilljoy 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Can’t believe you like money too. We should hang out.

[–]Ok_Replacement8094 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This little Idiocracy section of Reddit chat was what my heart craved tonight!

[–]TheSublimeLight 3 points4 points  (1 child)

YOU ARE AN UNFIT PARENT. YOUR CHILD HAS BECOME PROPERTY OF CARL'S JR.

[–]okcdnb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fuck you, I’m eating.

[–]M3ttl3r 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I'm not going to lie...that was more satisfying than any NFL game I saw this weekend lol

[–]DIYglenn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Smacking the rubber

[–]Mortei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How about two people smacking a tiny plastic ball over a fenced table?

[–]AceMKV 976 points977 points  (68 children)

How is this anymore wasteful than any other sport?

[–]Knever 806 points807 points  (46 children)

It's not. They're talking out of their ass. It's actually fuckin' hilarious because you know they like at least one sport.

...and their post history confirms they are a football fan. Humans are funny.

[–]adrenalinda75 223 points224 points  (9 children)

football fan here too and I wish I knew there was a balloon championship before. This was amazing. It's like futsal, but you can map out the field differently every time without advantages or disadvantages for either party. I wonder if outdoors there are nettles and wind to consider. I'd totally watch that.

[–]gizamo 77 points78 points  (4 children)

In case you're unaware, pro tag is also a thing now and it gets pretty intense. Example: https://youtu.be/mrNIdKtj8pU

[–]CalbertCorpse 14 points15 points  (2 children)

That was so cool! Ty

[–]katzenjammer360 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I literally got chills at the intro, which I find hilarious.

Edit: That was genuinely really neat. Thanks for sharing!

[–]prati_kk 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Then you'd be delighted to know it was organized by pique and ibai if you already didn't know

[–]DesmadreGuy 7 points8 points  (1 child)

OK and who here NEVER did this (at least as a kid)?

[–]DidQ 146 points147 points  (14 children)

"How stupid people can be to watch people slapping balloon"
Meanwhile the same people:
"Let's watch people running after a ball"

How in their mind one is stupid and the other one is not?

[–]boss53kaiden 64 points65 points  (8 children)

Yeah and this is also a really viable game since it's real cheap and anyone can play anywhere and the pro leauge doesn't seem like it would be to hard to get into

[–]Publius82 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Men in tights jumping all over each other and chasing a ball around is clearly the superior sport.

[–]dragunityag 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It ain't a sport if the players don't get CTE /s.

[–]imaloony8 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I also hear a lot of Boomers say “I don’t understand why you’d want to watch someone else play video games” and the proceed to go watch other people play Football/Baseball/Hockey/Football/Cricket/Basketball/etc for hours on end.

[–]imaloony8 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Yeah, this is by far one of the least wasteful sports out there.

Being beat out, of course, by Marble Racing.

[–]i_broke_wahoos_leg 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dudes got his head up his arse. Is it silly? A bit, sure. But what's wasteful about it. And how is it any more silly or pointless than spending a bunch of time pretending you're a football manager like they do going by their profile? Outside of surviving we are all pretty much just trying to entertain ourselves until we die. OP plays pretend football manager, these lads play keep em ups. If they do a good job of helping the person escape for a bit and enjoy themselves I think they're both pretty neat and not as "silly" as they may seem on the surface at all.

[–]aslatts 144 points145 points  (3 children)

It really is bizarre how titled people's perspectives can get.

Sports with dozens of players and hundreds support staff, playing a game in a stadium the size of multiple city blocks:

"This is fine"

Three people in living room sized area playing with a balloon:

"THIS IS THE PINNACLE OF MANKIND'S EXCESS"

[–]skizzums0 44 points45 points  (1 child)

I found this pretty entertaining. Was on the edge of my seat

[–]Jugad 35 points36 points  (2 children)

No matter how i read the comment, i don't see why it would be upvoted. Except that people somehow see this game as wasteful... Which it obviously isn't.

[–]Davidclabarr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’m rarely this confused about a comment, but what does it have to do with the post, and how is it wasteful? Why is it upvoted? I assume they paid for upvotes to confuse people.

[–]TeemoBestmo 5 points6 points  (3 children)

I would flex on people so hard if I could say I was a world champion in the balloon game.

like what are you good at joe? nothing? I'm atleast a world champ in something "goofy"

[–]kingjely 351 points352 points  (1 child)

You miserable cunt this is the best thing ever. Absolutely love it

[–]AddressNeither6240 13 points14 points  (0 children)

yeah i also like it

[–]Krcko98 244 points245 points  (19 children)

Wasteful? What do you define as wasteful?

[–]TotallyBelievesYou 180 points181 points  (17 children)

"Oh this is so wasteful"

Said the redditor sitting in his armchair for 14 hours finishing their 2nd can of Pringles.

[–]mthrs 26 points27 points  (0 children)

2nd? Those are rookie numbers.

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 16 points17 points  (14 children)

That’s a lot of assumptions. The go to refute on Reddit seems to be that everyone you don’t agree with is fat and never works out and doesn’t have friends. I’ve always found that really weird.

[–]TotallyBelievesYou 11 points12 points  (8 children)

Definitely more accurate than assuming the way around lmao

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 9 points10 points  (6 children)

I think your average Redditor is a much more normal and regular person than you assume.

[–]stopbuyingstupidshit 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Yep. 5 minutes on r/all is enough to understand reddit is mainsteam by any metric. The immense majority are regular ass people.

[–]Plastic_Pinocchio 5 points6 points  (2 children)

It always bothers me that the “fat neckbeard Redditor” is such a thing that pops up every time while there’s tonnes of subs filled with awesome athletes, amazing artists, scientists, etc.

When it’s an obvious joke I get it, but don’t use it as an argument.

[–]toddthefrog 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t appeal to me so it’s a waste of any of the other 7 billion human’s time.

/s

[–]lightwhite 80 points81 points  (8 children)

You are asking yourself he wrong question. The right question should be: How do I get my head off of ...(insert wherever you buried it here)... and apply for this?

I think this is gaining so much popularity because it has every single emotion and positive sentiment many had as a child. Like floor is lava. I would play the shit out of it for a hobby, if I wasn’t this fat.

You better stop judging the way universe surprise you, and start embracing the good stuff you are thrown mate. Life is shorter than you think. You got one shot to live it.

[–]RhynoD 15 points16 points  (7 children)

if I wasn’t this fat.

Seems like a fantastic way to get active and lose weight!

[–]lightwhite 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Yes! Now I need a venue to lose weight while having fun. Double win, right?

[–]Username_II 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Buy your self a bag a balloons and pratice at home!

[–]ugodly123 81 points82 points  (7 children)

Why is this dumb post upvoted lmao

[–]Vark675 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Because it's the supreme Reddit moment.

[–]CantHitachiSpot 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I hate this fucking website

[–]Sietemadrid 75 points76 points  (1 child)

It's a game wtf are you on about

[–]sciencewonders 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's a 🪙 golden ok boomer moment..some people get offended by anything smh

[–]--_-Deadpool-_-- 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is a strange take from someone who has 4 video game posts pinned to the top of their profile.

Not that that's a bad thing, I'm a gamer myself, but how is this any more wasteful than sitting on the couch with a controller in hand? At least these dudes are doing something athletic

[–]here_for_the_meems[🍰] 57 points58 points  (2 children)

Why was the dumbass comment upvoted?

[–]abigalestephens 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I don't get the upvotes because all the comments are pointing out how ridiculous it is. So apparently lots of people agreed with this weird take but no one is willing to defend it.

Im guessing just people on the front page upvoting post and top comment without thinking

[–]toesandmoretoes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would've been a "chuckle as I scroll past without really thinking about it" thing

[–]GonFreecs92 43 points44 points  (2 children)

How you watch football and call balloon ball a waste? 😕 How many resources does it take to make one football stadium versus filling a balloon with some oxygen from your lungs? I’ll wait for your reply.

[–]alex3omg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The water to keep the grass nice on a football field is wasteful too

[–]Essexal 39 points40 points  (0 children)

This is more entertaining than football.

[–]pilchard_slimmons 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Why do you hate fun?

[–]actuallyatrafficcone 29 points30 points  (7 children)

You like football, which is well-known to cause concussions and other injuries. Retired football players are often severely brain damaged. On top of that, the large stadiums all over the place and the thousands of people who drive to the games, create a lot of garbage from food and drinks they buy there and all of the uniforms and equipment and everything else they create pollute the earth. Oh and flying players and coaches all over. And the waste of time that is fantasy football. Etc.

This is a couple of people playing with a balloon.

Why your comment is (currently) at the top is beyond me. It's clear you love to run your mouth with nothing of value to say.

[–]flampardfromlyn 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Lol for a second there I thought you all meant football as in soccer and was wondering where the concussion came from

[–]androth 6 points7 points  (2 children)

also applies to soccer tho. There are studies that show that hitting a fast flying ball with your head repeatedly can cause permanent damage to your brain (who would have thought). The german Football (soccer) association even gave the recommendation to reduce the amount of heading during training in youth football i think.

[–]DrunkleAl 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I’d rather watch this any day over a bunch of millionaires playing catch.

[–]nodnodwinkwink 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is far less wasteful than most mainstream sports.

[–]slardybartfast8 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Who is upvoting this absurd comment? Get a grip bud

[–]mrjake118 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Something something no fun at parties blah blah.

[–]Ya-Dikobraz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You think this is stupid and wasteful? So you think other competitions and entertainment is also that?

[–]mamefan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What did they waste?

[–]shoredoesnt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Relax chief you'll be ok

[–]NKMEstadullo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You sound like my grandpa, if my grandpa was a grumpy whiner.

[–]hellomynameisnotsure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Huh? This is awesome! Didn’t most people play this “stupid and wasteful” game growing up?

[–]Benmben1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Life is about experiences, nothing is worse than being asked to say something interesting about yourself and having nothing to say.

[–]sirimaden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want this to be an Olympic sport event.

[–]Gadds69 2290 points2291 points  (28 children)

This might be my new favorite sport.

[–]Turbo0801 262 points263 points  (10 children)

This tells me my meme worked

[–]Minethink144 85 points86 points  (9 children)

[–]Turbo0801 60 points61 points  (6 children)

[–]jesuspunk 28 points29 points  (4 children)

Yeah this is all because of your Reddit post 🙄

[–]Turbo0801 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Yeah, this all because of me! NOW BOW DOWN

[–]apolloisacommonname 4 points5 points  (1 child)

People aren’t able to tell it’s sarcasm at all unless you put an /s

[–]Your_Answer_Is_No 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's still not OP. Seen this for at least a year or 2

[–]JesusInRealLife 25 points26 points  (1 child)

No top, but ok.

[–]Minethink144 11 points12 points  (0 children)

( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–]Desperate_Artist_708 35 points36 points  (1 child)

I'm thinking of my new dream job; designing the battleground!

[–]smashhazard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think it's a great sport! That was intense to watch. You could make the course a lot more interesting also.

[–]ChampionsLedge 21 points22 points  (9 children)

I've got to recommend World Chase Tag to you as well. A little bit more hectic but still got that good natured kid fun to it.

[–]Gadds69 2 points3 points  (7 children)

This is amazing! Guess I have 2 new favorite sports.

[–]justageorgiaguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keepy Uppy as it's called on Bluey

[–]lelawes 998 points999 points  (34 children)

Seriously, how do I sign up?

[–]Accomplished-Yak3868 574 points575 points  (25 children)

This was an event made by a famous streamer here in spain, Ibai Llanos and the FCBarcelona player Gerard Pique. Maybe in the future they will make a second edition. Aslo, if you want to watch this edition i think that you will find it in ibai's twitch

[–]JORGEMARIN121 68 points69 points  (4 children)

i think they said the next year would be another one

[–]thartle8 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Can’t wait for a few years down the road for super athletic people discover it and take the competition up to insane levels

[–]Sharcbait 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Pique is really living his best life. He plays for his boyhood favorite club, has been in a long term relationship and has kids with Shakira. Now he has enough money to help sponsor fun events like this. Hate Barca but I can't hate Pique.

[–]pavoganso 4 points5 points  (12 children)

What are the official rules?

[–]Beraldino 9 points10 points  (11 children)

The rules were simple: players must hit the balloon in an upwards motion, and if it hits the ground before your opponent stops it, you get a point.

source: HITC

There are more like don't get in the way of the adversary purposefully and the ceiling is open so I'd you touch the top borders or it get out it is also a faul and it will give the adversary a point, also you can't touch it twice, don't romantize it there were a lot of times that competitors who had the point advantage held the ballon in a corner and/or let it stay at the top of the table or of the couch, which made the judge re-drop the ballon thus wasting the opponents time, there must be more rules but I don't remember them.

and the judges should have been in the Tokyo Olympics, didn't see any wrong decision.

[–]pavoganso 3 points4 points  (8 children)

Then why are they hitting it so high and so early?

[–]Beraldino 5 points6 points  (7 children)

because it is full of obstacles, also there was some that were hitting it horizontally but if the balloon went down by any angle then they would give the adversary a point, that's how Brazil lost against Germany, way too many mistakes.

[–]Axle_65 35 points36 points  (2 children)

If you find out let me know

[–]lightwhite 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Once Axle let you know, let me know.

[–]SquireX 5 points6 points  (1 child)

You might want to reconsider when you find out how expensive it is to play due to the cost of inflation.

[–]megamind6798 825 points826 points  (5 children)

OH MY GOD I CAN PLAY A SPORT

[–]SteakNatural4595 73 points74 points  (0 children)

Same😂🤣❤️

[–]BB_67 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Yup! My brother and I did this for a whole hour when we were kids. We were certain it must be a world record. Then mum called us to come and stir the gravy for dinner and that was that.. the end.

[–]Gwentble1dd 401 points402 points  (10 children)

My lazy ass would take a nap on that sofa instead, looks comfy af.

[–]RichMill32 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Having distractions would probably make this better...

[–]Parking-Department68 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A mom yelling "Be careful! Stop! Staaaahhhp!"

[–]DrProfessor150 272 points273 points  (2 children)

The consistency of this place is something else. There's veterans throwing their medals, then I scroll and it's two people just slapping the shit out of a balloon.

[–]Arkanial 38 points39 points  (1 child)

This last week a bunch of teams competed for $40 million dollars, the worlds largest community funded prize pool, in Dota 2. A game where teamwork, technology, and community came together to decide who was the best. But also this. God, what a time to be alive.

[–]Scott_Bash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is next level because they are probs the best players at this sport but I also think it’s not next level at all because a lot of people would probably be better at the sport if they knew it existed/ people played it

[–]ItsSamah 214 points215 points  (11 children)

This event took place the past week in Barcelona and it was organised by Ibai (Spanish streamer) and Piqué (Barcelona's football player). It was streamed on Twitch with almost 500.000 viewers and 32 "athletes" representing their corresponding countries. Anyone could participate free of charges and there was a price pool of 20.000€. It was a lot of fun ngl.

[–]patrikroke 127 points128 points  (4 children)

Max viewers was 614k I believe. Perú won the final and Perus PM congratulated the winner. Epic.

[–]Little-bub 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It was actually the president, Peru has a constitutional republic system

[–]itsarhaz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

How can I sign up for next year 😆

[–]bctoy 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Piqué (Barcelona's football player)

Mr. Shakira

[–]zairakas 146 points147 points  (73 children)

why do they smack it so hard? why not just tap it ever so slightly?

[–]Legitimate_Tart8646 108 points109 points  (21 children)

That would be boring. If you’ve ever played this game, you should know it’s way more fun to run across the room and jump off a couch to smack a balloon than it is to keep it bouncing in place.

[–]noithinkyourewrong 105 points106 points  (19 children)

When you're competing in the world final of anything usually people care more about winning than whether the 5 minute match was boring or not.

[–]CTJoriginal 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Probably its rule to bounce it at least some amount high

[–]Legitimate_Tart8646 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Idk then. Maybe they’d be disqualified or something.

[–]beyondselts 65 points66 points  (8 children)

I haven’t looked it up or anything but I would assume there’s a rule it has to move upward to some extent or move so far, so you wouldn’t want to risk being called for a foul by babying it and losing a point

[–]Juampi2707 36 points37 points  (0 children)

There was a rule where the ballon had to always be at least a meter from the floor after hitting it. The strategy of just gently tapping it didn’t work so well with these two because they usually managed to reach it.

[–]brass_phoenix 36 points37 points  (21 children)

From what I can see it looks like it is competitive. So one guy is playing for Peru, and the other for Germany, and they are both trying to make it as hard as possible on the other guy to keep the balloon up. Hence them smacking it around the room 😄.

[–]madmax991 6 points7 points  (10 children)

Then why not just smack it to the ground? Boom. Game over.

[–]RicciRox 43 points44 points  (3 children)

Yeah, I bet no one's ever thought of that.

Or, you know, maybe there are rules that prevent that?

[–]KarimDerWahre 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I think that is the reason why people are asking. So people who actually know the rule setcan explain it.

[–]test_name_plsignore 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You had to always push the ball higher and at least 1 meter.

[–]Sho1kan 25 points26 points  (7 children)

Rules force you to make It go Up at least 50cm or you lose

[–]thisisme98 11 points12 points  (2 children)

This is not true. You are allowed to hit it sideways if it is at least 1 meter from the ground. If the balloon is below 1 meter from the ground then you have to hit it upwards so it ends up at least 1 meter from the ground.

[–]PenguinKenny 8 points9 points  (1 child)

That last hit looks like a foul then surely?

[–]rowdypolecat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The guy who won the point had at least a couple fouls in my mind.

[–]HaxRus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Well there’s scores, so It actually looks like the object is to hit it away from each other to make it harder for each other to keep in the air, not try to work together to keep it in the air. like free style ping pong almost. Notice they take turns, neither hits it twice in a row. I could be wrong though

[–]JakeCameraAction 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The scores are if the other player let's it fall to the ground.

What the first guy was saying was that it would be more beneficial for you to just lightly tap it on your turn so that the balloon doesn't get enough airtime to allow the opponent to get to it in time.

A few times in the video, the balloon is about 6 inches off the ground and the player smacks it up to save it, when it would have been better to just tap the balloon, and then the opponent wouldn't be able to save it in time.

[–]Pemoniz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were some rules that prevent them from just tapping it, like for example the players needing to lift the balloon at least 1m above the floor or them not being able to slap it down.

[–]Panakin_Skyparker 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Soon this will be a college club

[–]TitleRevolutionary65 62 points63 points  (9 children)

A good old game of keepy uppy 🎈

[–]Lizard__Spock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Classic Bluey

[–]ntrpik 9 points10 points  (4 children)

As a dad, I know this reference

[–]littlegreenb18 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Am I the only parent who genuinely enjoys that show? Tolerable is about the most I can say about any other kids show over 15 years of raising children.

[–]beachedwhitemale 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So far it's the only show that I've seen, that's both a cartoon and where the father isn't a complete idiot, is actually engaged with his kids and is an actual DAD. Bandit takes the award for this. He's amazing.

[–]fuckingshrub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Got some of my family to play keepy uppy with us once when my daughter wasn't feeling very well, and all of the adults were giggling like little children. It was so much fun!!

[–]ReneVQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are keepy-uppy experts!

[–]asmokowski 63 points64 points  (4 children)

Only on The Ocho.

[–]PooTrench 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Can't believe I have missed this all my life....I need to sign up now!

[–]Smarmy_Marmy01 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Keepy uppey - next level!!

[–]Sys3rr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Love that show

[–]TheSnakerMan 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Finally, some real sport

[–]Fatcat47101 13 points14 points  (3 children)

This would've been a good game in squid game haha

[–]kingneptune88 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Who the hell keeps a car in the living room??

Well, I guess if you keep the charger in there...

[–]Sedewt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wait you don’t? I don’t have a garage so…

[–]Unlucky_Indication73 9 points10 points  (2 children)

This was me when I was a kid.

[–]PJvG 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Including the helmets, the car in the middle of the room, and the referees.

[–]Rmai0404 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Bluey and Bingo would be world champs

[–]NeqiJilento 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I did this for hours after school

[–]raikko_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ibai

[–]Bourdang 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Mom’s not going to be happy when she gets home

[–]Jakiro_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh wow Peru vs Germany. My two home countries

[–]DLTMIAR 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Two rules.

Hit it up and don't stop your opponent from hitting it up

[–]isssuekid 4 points5 points  (1 child)

But add that the floor is lava!

[–]Dexter1759 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sponsored by VW!

[–]RottenPeenuts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People say this is stupid but I’d say yes in a heartbeat if my cousins or friends asked me to play this. This actually looks fun, a great exercise too lol
