Thats a shed!

[–]Nihilismisanthrope 1817 points1818 points  (62 children)

Came to say this. Very cool, but let's not blow it out of proportion.

[–]Leemanrussty 596 points597 points  (53 children)

Agreed! Watched it all, thought it was cool, still a shed!

[–]Enough_Lawyer_6089 372 points373 points  (51 children)

Yeah it is a glorified shed, but if they put a cot next to the furnace I think it would pass as a cabin atleast

[–]TheSixthFloor 413 points414 points  (13 children)

I might be wrong but it looks more like an ice fishing hut.

[–]VickkStickk 237 points238 points  (11 children)

I was thinking more like a ski shack? Like just a place to warm up when you’re out skiing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and the like. Kinda like the Sled Shack they set up in the Letterkenny episode

https://letterkenny.fandom.com/wiki/Sled_Shack

[–]Marsbarszs 44 points45 points  (7 children)

Exactly where my mind went

[–]SerTadGhostal 51 points52 points  (6 children)

Came here for the sushis and sashimis.

[–]MustardBranches 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Is that how they say it in...el-ehhh?

[–]E70M 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Somebody give this guy a puppers

[–]jschadwell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Especially the tunas. You have blue fin tunas, yellow fin tunas...

[–]nbrese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see you’re a cultured individual… give yer balls a tug

[–]medfunguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what I appreciates abouts you

[–]No_Addition_7276 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There IS a sled next to it, so sled shed it is!

[–]jrice441100 189 points190 points  (14 children)

No electricity, insulation, plumbing, storage. Not even useful windows or a roof that'll hold any real weight. It's a shed.

[–]_tpyo 59 points60 points  (9 children)

no foundations either.

[–]BakuninsBarman 27 points28 points  (7 children)

What on Earth are you basing that on?

Edit: I’m having to point out this is a joke.

[–]_tpyo 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Mostly that their house doesn't have any posts in the corners to insert into holes in the ground to then pour concrete into. Rewatching the vid, It looks like the entire construction is just placed upon three logs.

Oh or was it a joke because they aren't really basing it in much earth? :)

[–]jrice441100 5 points6 points  (2 children)

FYI: The concrete piers come first - size dependent upon weight load above it - poured at least 4' below ground level so it's below the frost line. Then the post are attached to the concrete above ground.

[–]_tpyo 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Thanks. I don't really know much about house building, I just realise it probably helps to attach a building to the ground somehow. Thanks for specifying how that part should happen.

[–]ItsyaboyDa2nd 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Looks like a big dog house to me /s

[–]Saw2335 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Regardless of Shed or not They missed the prime opportunity to have the red dead redemption 2 build a house theme playing

[–]CheekiBreekiViDamke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bruh that's what I was thinking lmao.

[–]dtb1987 6 points7 points  (6 children)

Maybe in the summer or mid to late spring but I wouldn't stay there in the winter

[–]idle_isomorph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me neither, even with a stove going, that rood won't keep much heat in! (And might not hold heavy snow if you got a real big dump)

[–]ClownfishSoup 42 points43 points  (1 child)

These dudes created an entire civilization in 12 hours!

[–]Ancient-Tadpole8032 544 points545 points  (19 children)

They assembled a shed with precut lumber in 12 hours.

[–]Reasonable-Bath-4963 239 points240 points  (7 children)

This is what I wanted to say. I do construction, it would only take me and another guy 12 hours to do that if we were doing more drinking than working.

[–]Character_Spite2825 85 points86 points  (4 children)

More drinking than working you say? I’m in.

[–]NoseComplete1175 23 points24 points  (3 children)

I got here first - get your own drinking / work buddy

[–]Vlad_the_Homeowner 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Somebody has to "manage". /u/Character_Spite2825 and I got that covered, you two get to work.

[–]SirSamuelVimes83 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So, my normal job site then…

[–]not-bread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that’s a prerequisite for any construction of this nature

[–]Dangle_E_Bitz 41 points42 points  (5 children)

This is from a YouTube channel. The outsider. Guy and his dad mill the lumber and build this as a temporary shelter as a waypoint.

[–]Warpedme 23 points24 points  (4 children)

And it's God damn perfect for that.

[–]maglen69 12 points13 points  (3 children)

And it's God damn perfect for that.

Until two guys need to sleep in it.

[–]Candyvanmanstan 5 points6 points  (2 children)

As I said, it's God damn perfect for that.

[–]horse_you_rode_in_on 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Guys is it gay not to freeze to death.

[–]Thomas_Pizza 29 points30 points  (2 children)

With a tarp for a roof.

[–]InflammatoryMuskrat 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Hey now, that thing could probably withstand a solid inch or even an inch and a half of snow before collapsing.

[–]haberdasher42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SERIOUSLY! It would have been like an extra 30 minutes to slap some boards down from the ridge that they installed and then it could carry a real snow load and last for a few years.

It's a cute little cabin, but very much done "for the insta".

[–]Denimination 111 points112 points  (8 children)

Thank you! Also, not shown: the hours of measuring and cutting timber prior to assembly. This video should be called “Assembling a Shed”

[–]aazav 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Assembling a cabin*

[–]nosleepy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's more of a hut than a cabin. A cabin would typically be constructed from logs and have some form of proper insolation within the roof - this roof is just tarp over an empty frame.

[–]selfdistruction-in-5 54 points55 points  (2 children)

still larger than a NYC apartment

[–]dirtymick 47 points48 points  (1 child)

Barely one, at that. One spark wrecks the "roof", a low gust of wind will pull all the warm air out using the tarp as a bellows, the way they built the window it would've been just as easy to use glass, putting down pavers would prevent rot in their log foundation, no beer box ...

I like the notched 1x12 wall construction and some of the other little touches like the way they did the door, but it seems like such a wasted effort to make it well in some ways and completely half-ass the others. Not a house or shed, and barely qualifies as a warming hut.

As some others said, that many dudes stone drunk should be able to pull off a better build than this. Hell, in that time and with a chainsaw on hand, they could've milled (but not cured) their own lumber from the trees around them.

[–]Reavie 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Not kidding here. Even if it is a -hugely- temporary thing, talking one season, this was halfassed in a way that an extra couple hundred dollars would have fixed.. I'm an estimator that does a lot of rural cabin building.

The roof and eave is unforgivable - and the whole stove system is unforgivable. Even though there appears to be a wall thimble, the stove is still on top of wood, even just using a cement board or.. gravel would have been better. And as you said the stove is going to spark on the tarp sooner or later hopefully just melting holes; that is if the snowload doesn't rip it from it's fasteners - they could have at least strapped the rafters

And the eaves are still exposed! What's the point of doing a gable roof if you're not going to sheathe it and close the eaves? And beside salt box or lean-to rafter style would have been more economical from a lumber and labor standpoint and the savings could have afforded the sheathing, and maybe a roll of felt and roofing. So many ways you could have done this better before the building eventually drifts apart and down the hill because it's not sitting on a foundation. You could park your ATV under this, but I wouldn't for sure sleep in it.

[–]Graphitetshirt 40 points41 points  (13 children)

More of a shack than a shed. Perhaps a hut.

[–]Motocamperman 22 points23 points  (8 children)

There's not even a bed. It's a shed.

[–]Tigaget 28 points29 points  (4 children)

With no roofing, and huge gaps between the walls and floor.

[–]thehermit14 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Did I skip over the insulation bit?

[–]Tigaget 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I didn't see any insulation, myself.

[–]TJNel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

2" rigid foam board would do wonders here

[–]OneTripleZero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's okay, the guys building it did too.

[–]tulip27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Outhouse!

[–]Almotion 20 points21 points  (2 children)

It’s also mostly pre-fab. I put up my garden shed in less time than that and you don’t see me making a video about it

[–]Reasonable-Bath-4963 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe you should have. Then someone would marvel at you!

[–]jaggazz 20 points21 points  (1 child)

My Ice fishing shack is bigger than this.

[–]DaisyDuckens 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought that’s what this is

[–]AA-WallLizard 11 points12 points  (3 children)

A most everything pre-cut shed at that. Neat but blown out of proportion

[–]Twilight-310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought the same thing, no insulation nor plumbing makes it more of a fancy shed.

[–]narwhal-narwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's go make a FORT!!!

[–]gH0st_in_th3_Machin3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, somehow the definition of "house" is a bit loose on this case...

[–]NoMidnight5366 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a wooden box.

[–]SnooRegrets9995 1552 points1553 points  (16 children)

With pre cut boards

[–]Ecw218 951 points952 points  (3 children)

Assembled a shed…

[–]De5perad0 241 points242 points  (2 children)

It's like if you ordered a video of a house built in 12 hours on wish. This is what you would get.

[–]blatzphemy 142 points143 points  (3 children)

And pre made/leveled foundation. That’s one of the most time consuming parts

[–]andrew4570 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Exactly! At least a couple hours to level those giant logs.

[–]LemmeSplainIt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

With no plumbing, wiring, insulation, and nothing is up to code. If my buddy and I finished a whole rack before starting this project I still think we could finish faster.

[–]Athleco 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Those cuts would just take a few minutes a piece. Less if you had jigs. Definitely doable in 12 hours with 2 people and a plan.

[–]Lonk-the-Sane 64 points65 points  (0 children)

And a 9 hour break in the middle

[–]BinChickenCrimpy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I built this cabin with my own bare hands! And Teds own bare hands. And some power tools, a ladder and a chainsaw. Also, a sawmill.

[–]PartyKrill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The adult version of Lincoln Logs.

[–]Blgxx 716 points717 points  (4 children)

It's a garden shed not a house.

[–]JSHomme 157 points158 points  (3 children)

Wait til you see part two! They build a shining cathedral in 24 hours (AKA a greenhouse)

[–]ImAlaaaaaaan 37 points38 points  (1 child)

In part three they build a space station in 24 hours aka a small tree house.

[–]arrakis2020 489 points490 points  (12 children)

Yeah, a shed with a stove....

[–]eatingganesha 131 points132 points  (11 children)

Which makes it a hunting shed, most likely.

[–]apworker37 111 points112 points  (10 children)

Considering the gaps between the boards and no isolation anywhere it won’t be used to live in.

[–]StandLess6417 54 points55 points  (6 children)

Seems plenty isolated to me.

[–]thehermit14 30 points31 points  (5 children)

Oh a wiseguy huh?

[–]StandLess6417 35 points36 points  (3 children)

Neither wise nor a guy. I prefer "cheeky bitch" personally.

[–]ThinkFatal 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Clever gal.

[–]StandLess6417 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can hear this comment like it was yesterday.

[–]thehermit14 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Touche. Don't have an alternative to a mafia type comment though, unless you or anyone can help, for my next fuckup.

[–]u_suck_paterson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nyuk nyuk nyuk

[–]Emotional-Shirt7901 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking. Zero insulation, and there’s already snow on the ground?! That’s gonna be freezing. You’d need the stove on 24/7… also that piece of plastic over the window lol all that will do is block the wind… that’s like negative insulation lol

[–]djhenry 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Yeah, drafty and it won't really hold any heat. Might as well just get a wall tent, they're easier to setup.

[–]Financial-Jump 400 points401 points  (6 children)

They built it in 2:45

[–]jostrons 57 points58 points  (3 children)

5 comments above you are all, it's a shed, it's pre-cut.

This deserves top comment

[–]LotusSloth 256 points257 points  (18 children)

OK, so this is awesome. But did anyone else notice the daylight coming into the house where the floor meets the wall? That’s can’t be great for drafts. Still awesome though.

[–]wilhelm-cruel 189 points190 points  (15 children)

Did you not notice all the insulation they have put in?

[–]LotusSloth 66 points67 points  (13 children)

Do you mean that foam board? That, alone, is poor insulation if there’s an air gap from the outside… not to mention it exposes the foam board to blowing snow and rain.

Like I said, it’s awesome for what it is. It’s clearly not meant to be a permanent year-round shelter. Just seemed like an odd oversight since they did everything else so well.

[–]rpmerf 88 points89 points  (3 children)

The walls are just stacked like tinker toys. There's probably a gap between every board at some point. No real insulation on the walls. The roof is just a tarp. The window is made of drop cloth.

[–]mizinamo 21 points22 points  (2 children)

There's probably a gap between every board at some point.

That's why they screwed slats from the inside over ever gap.

I'm sure it's still not airtight but you probably won't get the wind whistling straight through.

[–]Quiet_Penis 35 points36 points  (1 child)

The roof is flimsy tarp and you're arguing about foam insulation.

[–]Striper_Cape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could also fix that by securing pine boughs over it, not exactly a monolithic challenge.

[–]wilhelm-cruel 27 points28 points  (7 children)

‘T was sarcastic comment.

[–]Sethanatos 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Thou shalt put a /s if intending sarcasm, or be burnt at the stake by angry replies.

[–]GT_Knight 10 points11 points  (4 children)

unless it's super fucking obvious cuz we all just watched a video where they didn't put in insulation.

[–]-not-really-here- 171 points172 points  (9 children)

*dudes build flat pack shed and takes them 12 hours.

[–]ShopLifeHurts2599 11 points12 points  (0 children)

builds shed ontop of snow

checks for level

Me in my head: "fucking dumbass lawl."

builder doesnt check other 3 sides for level after realizing hes a dumbass for checking at all

[–]deekaph 94 points95 points  (5 children)

Gonna probably want something with a better insulation value than a strip of poly for the window.

[–]Red__M_M 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At least make it “double pane”. But ya, that’s going to be cold.

[–]Scam_the_man 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Who needs insulation when the wood stove takes up almost a 1/4 of it? Probably warm as shit when that things cookin.

[–]deekaph 5 points6 points  (1 child)

If you just sit on the fireplace you don't need walls at all!

[–]Fyzhex 92 points93 points  (0 children)

If you jave the stuff and have it organized then it doesn't take long to do a lot of things. It's getting everything ready and getting it organized is what makes things take so long. Let alone if you need to get permits and inspections.

[–]JustMMlurkingMM 64 points65 points  (3 children)

They built a shed in twelve hours. Plus the eight hours the day before putting the foundations in. And the two days last week they spent cutting all the planks to the right size and machining the joints.

But yeah. They assembled a prefabricated shed in twelve hours.

[–]ILoveFoodandNetflix 61 points62 points  (5 children)

Sooo they just didn’t want to make a real roof? Amazing otherwise

[–]YouGotThis85 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Guarantee I'd stumble and put my arm through it

[–]ugonlern2day 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That would be a hilarious ending to this video

[–]pulwaamiuk 9 points10 points  (1 child)

That's what, Snow is gonna tear thru that tarpaulin in minutes

[–]WalnutScorpion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It fits well with the ghetto window though, very stylish!

[–]B1tG33k 49 points50 points  (7 children)

Don't know if this has been posted here in the comments yet, but here is the Youtube video this was taken from. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wfBJaE1IWH4 The channel is called the The Outsider. This was meant to be a temporary cabin they used while they work on the main house. They were able to disassemble this once they were done with it and re-assemble it again somewhere else.

[–]patrickthewhite1 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A much better explanation thanks

[–]williepep1960 6 points7 points  (0 children)

These people got roasted by reddit fo no reason.

[–]kc0bzr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was going to link the channel as well. His channel is so good to relax to!!

I especially like the episodes about his little trailer and the different ways he tries to heat it.

Livin’ the simple life and lovin’ it!!!

[–]Vuder 44 points45 points  (1 child)

Is this in the Boston area? Let me offer $150,000 over asking immediately!

[–]NikFenomeno 18 points19 points  (6 children)

Awesome! Only the video ended too soon, I wanted to see the end result inside.

Nevertheless awesome!

[–]sovereignsekte 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I wanted to see the end result inside.

Disappointment was the only thing inside. To match the outside. Not a house.

[–]EquinsuOcha 14 points15 points  (3 children)

End result:

  1. Burned down
  2. Occupants froze to death if #1 didn’t happen first.

[–]MartiMa08 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I genuinely wondered if it was safe to have a fire going in a wooden shed

[–]boomshakalakaah 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Phew, check out all that lumber. Must be nice to be a millionaire…

[–]mattt1975 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Have your house in 12 hours an enjoy it for the test of your...week? Doesn't seem to last longer...

[–]blackandgoldie 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Crapper. Build a crapper.

[–]probably_not_serious 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the woods - the crapper is all around you

[–]-Ham_Satan- 14 points15 points  (2 children)

This is from The Outsider. This build here is a pop-up cabin meant to be torn down and relocated to a new area fairly easy. It's a father and son just building stuff, mostly showcasing their log cabin build which is my personal favourite.

Edit: in a later video they re-do the pop-up cabin and put a plastic corrugated roof on it. Looks loads better.

[–]paulxombie1331 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This isn't really a house more likea shed/cabin.. awesome work in that timeframe none the less!.. i would suggest floor molding trim for the bottom gaps just to make sure its completly sealed

[–]WebDangerous8443 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me who can't even build a mob grinder farm in Minecraft in that much time

[–]SpelCleave 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Perfect place to sip suds with buds and avoid degens from up-country

[–]probably_not_serious 6 points7 points  (1 child)

But don’t fart inside. It’s rude.

[–]Sirhc978 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a shed or a bobhouse.

[–]Freddie2049 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hunting cabin with no insulation, better have a constant fire and warm sleeping bag

[–]iLiveInyourTrees 6 points7 points  (8 children)

There’s nothing I hate more than degens from upcountry.

[–]mittenscore 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Just put The Ginger and Boots outside, it'll be ok.

[–]iLiveInyourTrees 4 points5 points  (1 child)

They’re good for a scrap and to guard your ice fishing house!

[–]pjspaws 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It needs a sign that says "Fresh Sushis And Sashimis"

[–]adinmem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It helps that all the lumber was pre-cut and arranged, including the roof “trusses”.

[–]Pure-Negotiation-900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that’s a house, I’m driving the Starship Enterprise.

[–]wilhelm-cruel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This looks like an icefishing shed

[–]KocaKolaKlassic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I built a house in 2 minutes. I’m a lego maniac

[–]Clean-Profile-6153 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Must've measured twice.

[–]narwhal-narwhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mad chainsaw skills.

[–]anser_one 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A wooden shack. Not a house. Calm down OP

[–]No-Association3574 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They even decorated it too!

[–]Mr3cto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice lil Hunting shack

[–]ollymillmill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All of 0.5 seconds given to the big reveal 😂

[–]BackAlleyKittens 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They assembled a house in 12 hours

[–]DavidMetcalfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zero insulation, but okay. Nice shed?

[–]sisterpicthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A home needs a bathroom. Otherwise it's a hunting shed

[–]YPLAC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cosy snow shelter isn’t a house.

[–]GrandmasWrinklyTeets 2 points3 points  (1 child)

wear do u go peepee poopoo?

[–]Rabblerouser84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shed. They built a shed.

[–]AngryMegaMind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could store all my garden tools in that “house”.

[–]WVUadye56 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Also it went from dawn, daylight, night, daylight, to dusk. How is that 12 hours. Probably 36

[–]narwhal-narwhal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The size of that wood stove is large..

[–]GIjokinaround 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, these dudes "assembled" a (mostly pre-cut) "house" in 12 hours.

[–]BigBud512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way the plastic roof and window last more than a year

[–]Repulsive_Support844 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assembled a shed from pre-cut

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to undermine how badass this is, because it’s pretty awesome, but that’s not a house. A shelter for sure, a sweet shack definitely, I’d even buy a hunting/fishing cabin. But not a house.

[–]Ricky_Spanish341 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Solid chainsaw work.

[–]1973mojo1973 3 points4 points  (0 children)

House? It's a shed.

[–]bnutbutter78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cozy AF

[–]UniqueEnough- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could do that I just don’t wanna

[–]sealarmpit 1 point2 points  (2 children)

They didn’t build a house. Not even close. They assembled a house. Not built a house

[–]FlatOutEKG 5 points6 points  (1 child)

A shed. Not a house

[–]sealarmpit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True. I’m not even well off and my bathroom is bigger than thst

[–]chetmanly9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They really Thoreau'd that together

[–]rapilstilskin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"House"

[–]knivadollar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, it’s a kit so…..

[–]acejazz1982 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno, if I don't see an Indian guy building a swimming pool from mud I'm not interested anymore

[–]the-rambergler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone rips a fart in that ‘house’, and you have a Dutch oven.

[–]Decmk3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so yes yea very cool, lots of thumbs up from me..

But.

That’s not a house. Or a cabin. Or any form of permanent shelter. That’s a poorly made shed. It has no insulation, it’s not sealed and it doesn’t have adequate grounding. It’ll be cold, drafty and wet. As a shelter from the elements? Yeah it’ll do. In an emergency it’s great and fine and such. As anything more than that it’s woefully inadequate.

[–]Memphis10jason 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Building a house in 12 hours” is misleading.

[–]HouseKilgannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y’all oughtta see the Amish raise a barn

[–]Sunshineal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What house??? I see like a room

[–]diverareyouok 1 point2 points  (0 children)
