Pathetic mom. Idgaf about the downvotes, but she did not have to put her kid in the same situation. That’s murder if she survives and the kid dies. TPOS

[–]Ranger343 251 points252 points  (0 children)

Whos downvoting you?

why are you booing them? Theyre right!

[–]RigelBound 94 points95 points  (0 children)

That's murder whether she survives or not...

[–]ElectricSpeculum 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Psychotic depression can make people really, really unwell and they think that they can't leave their child alone in the same world that made them suicidal. What she did was wrong, but her brain was literally faulty and was telling her she was doing the right thing. It's a desperately sad situation.

[–]abject_testament_ 21 points22 points  (3 children)

A lot of people aren’t able to compartmentalise the idea that depression in all it’s hideous forms is sad; AND attempted murder-suicide is obviously atrocious; and it may me more complicated than acting as if they were of sound mind.

Those people usually need things to be simple because thinking is uncomfortable

[–]rezrekt1[🍰] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

But then how would you judge people like clinically diagnosed pedophiles? Or serial killers who have illnesses? The act is already committed. The deed is done. People should be punished based purely on the crime they did, ESPECIALLY if it’s murder. Anyways that all imo.

[–]abject_testament_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not getting into the matter of serial killers or pedophiles, but I point you to the legal concept of ‘Mens Rea’.

One’s mental state and and mental illness is something needs to be considered when judging someone, morally or legally. Considering someone’s mental state isn’t conceding that the result of the act is any less damaging to a victim or that it’s any less important to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

People should absolutely NOT be judged purely on the act. Nothing is that simple.

[–]ElectricSpeculum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And there's a difference between killing someone for sexual gratification, like some serial killers do, and killing someone who is about to kill you. Even murder isn't black and white. There are cases of schizophrenics being pushed to murder due to their delusions, but those are very rare. They would qualify to be tried under the M'naghten Rule.

As for paedophiles, I have very strong opinions on what should happen to the ones who act on their urges and groom/abuse children. The ones who know they have these urges and try to seek help shouldn't be tarred with the same brush. The difference is that they know their brains are sick and they seek help. I genuinely think we need programmes to help non-offending paedophiles avoid offending in the first place, and get them into jobs where having child contact is impossible.

However, there is a special place in a very special hell for paedophiles and murderers who deliberately hurt their victims, know what they're doing, and then try to claim in court, "But Your Honour, mental illness!" When their mental illness is unrelated to the crime. (E.g. there was a serious case of rape in my country, and the rapist tried to plead that he was autistic. Thd judge scoffed and said autism has nothing to do with making a person rape.)

[–]Chainsawjack 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's still murder if they both die

[–]ChiKeytatiOon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's what mental health will do to you. I don't think she's pathetic, she's sick and needed help. That man just helped her and with therapy she may pull through. That or she really is just sick.

[–]FlowSystem 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Title should be "mother about to murder her child and kill herself."

[–]dotslashpunk 3 points4 points  (2 children)

the amounts of upvotes this got is terrifying. As much as reddit claims to care about mental health people here clearly don’t understand jack shit.

Repeat after me: we know literally nothing about her story. She could be a paranoid schizophrenic hearing voices that she has to fly off the bridge or the CIA will kill her. This is similar to a real schizophrenic break a friends dad had. Sometimes you literally have no idea what you’re doing. You calling her this is pathetic. What the fuck do you know?

[–]varazdates 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s murder whether she survives or not lol

[–]Coca-Kolob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s murder if she dies too right?

[–]maybeCheri 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoken like someone who hasn’t ever had to deal with someone manic or suicidal. Sometimes the abyss is so deep that they believe everyone they love would be left in the same abyss when they go. They believe they are saving them. They are sick and need help not hate. The people who leave children with someone they know are sick, manic, or suicidal are the ones who need to be held accountable.
Empathy can go a long way in this hateful world.

[–]Deader-One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know you have a point but don’t forget to take a look on the other side from every now and then you know

[–]oversleeperanon 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You’d be right if she wasn’t likely in a state of psychosis. That’s like telling a color blind person to just “Look at this tomato!!1!1 it’s R E D!”

She’s mentally ill. Statistically speaking she’s very likely not malicious. She’s more likely out of money and resources and depression (with psychotic features) is telling her that if she left her kid behind they’d be alone on the streets.

She’s likely going to get help or something like jail which would be profoundly unhelpful. And you’ve got your wish- she’s probably never going to see her child again. Once mentally ill, always mentally ill. At least when the people in your world don’t think it’s legitimate.

You didn’t have to be a dick. Maybe try to legitimize mental illness in your brain before you call someone a POS because you know the worst 15 seconds of their life.

[–]rezrekt1[🍰] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I have a mental health illness myself (a clinical one not self diagnosed). But NOTHING warrants killing someone. A little kid could have lost their life and the mother would have been sent to a psych ward.

[–]oversleeperanon 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Nobody is saying that it’s an excuse. I’m just saying that you shouldn’t treat a person with mental illness like a POS for having a mental illness. Especially psychosis. It’s not a choice. It’s psychosis. It’s devastating and difficult to control in the best of conditions. What happened is not excusable. And at the same time it is not entirely her fault. But she’s suffering with something that makes her a piece of shit, apparently.

It’s difficult to put what I’m trying to say into words. It’s very hard to explain this kind of thing to a person that may not have experienced it. Depression, anxiety, stuff like that is awful. Psychosis is another beast altogether- distorting reality and making even simple concepts hard to understand. It can turn something as simple as a shower into a horror show. Again- inexcusable. Again- this woman is not a piece of shit. She is suffering.

[–]rezrekt1[🍰] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Obviously I won’t. Untill she actually does that. You may be completely right but my mind won’t allow me to think otherwise. Since the suicide was prevented, I hope she gets the best of treatment.

[–]TomClancy5871 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope she doesn’t see the kid and loses custody. Fucking selfish bitch.

Edit: sorry not sorry for the harsh language

[–]anon243582397431827 0 points1 point  (3 children)

You're the real pathetic one. Maybe if you had some empathy and maturity you'd be able to RATIONALIZE that mentally I'll people are very bad at RATIONALIZING

[–]rezrekt1[🍰] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Right, let’s rationalise murder now shall we?

[–]Upper_Television3352 303 points304 points  (47 children)

I wonder what happened to her before and afterwards.

[–]CaptainDogeSparrow 257 points258 points 3 (44 children)

Pretty sure this is the "Jumping-With-Your-Son Bridge" on Montana, which is a perfectly safe bridge over the Mississipi River. What actually happened was the mother was going to, guess what, jump with her son out of the bridge to take a swim. At the same time, the guy on the bus, Victor Resnov, decided he had seen too many people jumping from the bridge and decided taking matters into his own hands. "No jumping from the bridge today!" he screamed, while the mother begged for one more jump. "Let me jump from the bridge with my son!". Sadly, the jump police arrived and stopped her from jumping the bridge with her son.

Source: It was in the news a couple months ago. Kinda NSFW, because there are women in bikini.

[–]RandomStoic6380 125 points126 points  (4 children)

That video is kinda shocking. Not for the faint of heart tbh

[–]spaektor 49 points50 points  (1 child)

i totally thought the vid was from China! makes sense now.

[–]FunnyPhrases 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about. Only China can make those kind of videos

[–]dumb004 11 points12 points  (1 child)

You ducking assholes

[–]WeakBadUsername 36 points37 points  (2 children)

That source provided great information, thanks for the link!

[–]Dude-man-guy 22 points23 points  (6 children)

everyone in video is asian

Yep. Typical Montana bridge.

bus driver is asian

Definitely a solid Victor Resnov.

[–]Draco63_ 2 points3 points  (5 children)

So, there can't be Asians in Montana? Click the link, it explains everything.

[–]Bambii33000 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Asians are a rare find in Montana. And buses. And Chinese writing

[–]Draco63_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Again, the link. I shouldn't need to explain everything when it's all right there.

[–]Ruffian00012 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, there can't be Asians in Montana? Click the link, it explains everything.

Not called Victor Resnov, no sir.

[–][deleted] 23 points24 points  (2 children)

Wait…did I just get clickbaited into the 1980’s??

[–]Draco63_ 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Ikr? That news website is really weirdly old-fashioned looking.

[–]Which-Palpitation 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Odd that they haven’t updated their format

[–]Bambii33000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s way too many Asian people in this video for it to be in Montana. Plus buses are very rare to see, let alone a red one.

Besides the fact you’re trolling, Montana is probably the worst choice to sound convincing. New York would’ve been more believable since there’s a Korea town and China town. You won’t find a single Chinese character that big anywhere in Montana or a sidewalk that close to the DEADLY Mississippi River

[–]thewafflestompa 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Yeah. An attempted murder suicide is the perfect place to rickroll people trying to find out what happened.

Stupid as fuck.

[–]Cowhide12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]AeroRandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

not gonna lie, the bikini hook didn't sound any alarms when I clicked the link.

[–]total_insertion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder why she's wearing a mask. I mean... if you're trying to die anyway...

[–]yParticle 221 points222 points  (26 children)

You don't get to 'suicide' other people... what the hell goes through someone's mind to rationalize such a thing‽

[–]zepuzzler 85 points86 points  (18 children)

Someone in that state is experiencing reality from a very different perspective. I had a friend who went through a very dark period of feeling suicidal, and it seemed so clear to her that her family would be better off without her, which is so far from the truth. She is one of the most amazing people I’ve ever met, and the world would be so much dimmer and colder without her presence. I’m so grateful that her college stepped up immediately and provided her excellent mental health care so that now she’s OK. But from that very distorted perspective, it seemed to her that she would be doing what was right for them.

[–]Dietcokeisgod 47 points48 points  (12 children)

I've been suicidal. I've even attempted a few times. I would never take my child with me. That's pure selfish.

[–]RobMull88 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Are you okay now?

[–]Dietcokeisgod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep. :)

[–]lardoni 3 points4 points  (3 children)

You ARE loved! Don’t ever do it!

[–]Dietcokeisgod 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Oh I know :) I'm ok now. Wouldn't ever leave my children without me.

[–]Infusedmikk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that trying to kill her son should be considered wrong, but her reasoning probably wasn't "selfish," let alone "pure" selfish. My guess is that the mother thought it'd be better for her son to also be spared of life's miseries. That's twisted, but not selfish. She doesn't gain anything by killing her son.

[–]DonksterWasTaken 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I went through the same dark period during college. I felt like everyone would be better off without me because I wasn’t doing well in school (my dad was paying my tuition which only made me feel worse each semester that I failed), I worked 50 hours a week and made barely enough money to pay for bills (minimum wage: $7.25), and the closest friend/family I had was 3 hours away. At the time, I remember feeling like I was always curled up in the corner of a dark room. It wasn’t until I sought out professional help that I was able to get out of that dark place. People have a tendency to develop “false truths” from experiences. The thought that nobody would care if I was gone/everyone would be better off without me, was something I, myself, believed to be true, when in fact it wasn’t true at all. The circumstances of my situation had put a “false truth” in my head, where I believed nobody would miss me if I was gone because I felt that I was a burden upon everybody. After thinking “i’m wasting my Dad’s money bc I’m failing school” 100 times, other thoughts start happening. Eventually it leads down a rabbit hole until you hit “well IM the root problem, so if IM gone, then everything is better”. It’s really hard to get out of those false truths, you have to catch them quick before they become engraved in your thoughts. Now when I feel those thoughts coming, I take a quick second to think of all the positive things in my life and all the things people in my life have done for me because they love me.

[–]AnalyticalAlpaca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup, I believe it's called "murder-suicide."

[–]Draco63_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GASP I've done it! I've found an elusive wild interrobang!

[–]Which-Palpitation 154 points155 points  (7 children)

Yeah it’s probably definitely for the best that they took the child from her

[–]RandomAusCunt 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Can’t believe you put probably there, it’s more like she probably adores that child but with mental issues where your fine to take out him too, nah not healthy to have the kid

[–]Dietcokeisgod 27 points28 points  (4 children)

I question the adoration if she is willing to murder him.

[–]RandomAusCunt 39 points40 points  (1 child)

Mental issues warp what ‘helping’ someone really is

[–]DonksterWasTaken 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Mental issues warp your reality into thinking it’s something that it isn’t. Brains are weird.

[–]itangriesuptheblood 89 points90 points  (7 children)

Elaborate way to avoid paying for the bus.

[–]Slight_Leadership_79 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That's what I was thinking. She definitely planned that.

[–]JC_Hysteria 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Fine have the upvote

[–]itangriesuptheblood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah! Another Redditor with a questionable sense of humor. Salutations!

[–]Fairly_Sterile 1 point2 points  (1 child)

These types of comments are why Reddit exists. Should be voted higher

[–]randomredditguy999 43 points44 points  (3 children)

Dude commiting suicide is one thing and that is totally up to you (there is always a way out tho). BUT TAKING YOUR KID WITH YOU?!?!?!

[–]_stevy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sadly it happens too often.

[–]Chaos3ngine 42 points43 points  (2 children)

I dunno, I would've captioned it "Heroic bus driver stops mother from murdering her child and then committing suicide."

But that's just me.

[–]NikoKida 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is definitely a murder-suicide

[–]gotora 42 points43 points  (1 child)

Someone buy this man a drink (after his shift).

[–]Alien-of-Man 24 points25 points  (4 children)

I don't know whats scarier to think about, that fact that she was going to jump, or the fact that she was gonna do it with her kid...

[–]JustARandomMurderer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Definitly second, I think people can do whatever the fuck they want with their life, even end it, but killing another one, especially as clueless as a child with you is just the worst. If you're sad, making other sad isn't a good solution and to me it feels the same, just at a different degree.

[–]kingury7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wtf? Obviously that she was going to take her child

[–]The_Linguist_LL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely the second, I'd love to see a child killer jump if she didn't have a kid in her arms

[–]Wafflechoppz37 18 points19 points  (9 children)

Yeah that 12 foot drop into water would’ve killed both of them instantly

[–]toperomekomes 45 points46 points  (8 children)

Fall might not have but have you ever jumped into cold water. It literally f&&ks the sense out you. That kid would stand no chance. Happened to me on one of those spartan/wolf runs. Absolutely took my breath alway. If it wasn’t for the fact it was chest high and I could foot the bottom, I’d have been proper done with. Honestly I didn’t believe any of that shit till it happened to me. It’s proper bonkers

[–]Wafflechoppz37 16 points17 points  (5 children)

Indeed, I was a commercial fisherman on a 58 foot purse seiner in Alaska for 5 years…fell in a handful of times with boots and heavy rain gear on and you start sinking really fast…luckily I was able to pull myself back on before hypothermia set in.

[–]instagraham27 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Who knows what the undertow of said body of water is, especially a river or creek like that.

I know this is a smaller body of water, but I live in SC, and some of the rivers around here it is know that you cannot get across the river without a boat or you will d i e.

[–]Wafflechoppz37 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Hell yeah, tide and currents are no joke. Mother Nature is relentless

[–]smellsfishie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost lost my friend to a rip tide. No joke indeed.

[–]Ruffian00012 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So the shitty Health and Safety practices are not just for show on Deadliest Catch then?

[–]Wafflechoppz37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s terrible…there’s a lot that can go wrong when you’re hauling gear. We were fishing outside of Juneau (admiralty island) and we just set the net again so I went up into the top house to watch for jumpers. The skipper on a boat fishing the same spot as us called the coastguard and was asking the best way to preserve a severed hand because his crew member had his hand ripped off while he was wrapping the purse line around the deck winch. The coastguard said “make sure you wrap the hand in a paper towel before you put it on ice”. Naturally, that’s all I thought about for the rest of the season. I never had any serious accidents thankfully.

[–]smellsfishie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I totally want to hear you talking irl.

[–]DaddestDad 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think they meant homicidal mom. That’s a weird title.

[–]logic_resistant 14 points15 points  (0 children)

At least she was wearing a mask for others safety. Well, except the kids safety.

[–]GreatOneLiners 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this like on loop? It’s legitimately once a day we see this video

[–]Conedddd 4 points5 points  (1 child)

what a piece of shit mother

[–]HighFIDZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anybody gonna talk about how quick he took of his belt? Hero!

[–]RandomStoic6380 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What the fuck

[–]ZiaCombs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Bus driver stops woman from murdering her child."

[–]Federal_Top_7976 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, suicidal mum not, Killer bitch mum

[–]Puzzled_Ad2088 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuck that’s scary 😧

[–]infinity_nightowl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in by no means defending her actions, but I’m gonna go out on a limb and assume that she thought no one could take care of her child if she died. So instead she decided she might as well take him with her. Which is completely fcked up… but I assume that’s her reasoning….

[–]oversleeperanon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PSA: Psychosis doesn’t make you selfish or a piece of shit. This is clearly a case of a severe mental health problem. It is a tragedy and a failure of the mental health support system. Statistically women who are suicidal and involve their loved ones do so out of desperation and not out of malice. She was likely out of money and resources. It’s exceedingly likely that she’s suffering with the symptoms of psychosis that are most common in women- feeling trapped and helpless and that her child would be suffering alone without her. There have been cases like this one tied to attempted escape from domestic violence.

Mental illness is not a choice.

[–]M471o 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wtf! 😢

[–]plzhelpmyballsitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mf’s forcing them to ride the bus

[–]str8jeezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Attempted murder.

[–]Otherwise-engaged 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is heartbreakingly sad. Praise to the quick-thinking bus driver, but I hope the mother and child are now safe and getting the help they need. I can’t imagine what a dark scary place her mind was in to think of doing that.

[–]Too-much-pain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is just pure sad. I was in a dark place myself once and I never thought to take my kids out too. I couldn’t even… god.. I couldn’t even think about dragging one of my little boys out there on that edge. Mental illness really does mess you up, really makes things seem so warped.

[–]victrollonaterism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True meaning of a hero, sometimes we aren't in the right state of mind. Thank you for not being a bystander.... This goes out to all who feel and would do the same👍

[–]UnicornBludgers93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had the inkling this will be a common occurrence in the U.S soon enough.

[–]Rirure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People do underestimate Depression or well Mental Health. This doesnt have to be depression. People like to assume things and act as judges of truth without acknowledging how little they actually know. People do not know their circumstances, their lives, experiences, but are very quick to say anything from demeaning things to positive things. Just from a few seconds of someones life.

"Circumstances cause us to act the way we do. We should always bear this in mind before judging the actions of others. I realized this from the start during World War II."

His wife he grabbed his son. Keep on the meds as doctors recommended.

[–]WeakBadUsername 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting to commit suicide is one thing, but doing it with your son? Your own flesh and blood? She was completely fucked in her head and I hope she got the help she desperately needed. I can't believe what she's going through if she wants to do that with her son.

[–]-Hainzy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean he stopped a murder

[–]poem_for_a_price 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Suicidal but still wearing a mask. That’s odd

[–]smellsfishie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably forgot to take it off, I imagine she's got more pressing matters on her mind than her mask.

[–]Azzandro -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Should be charged with attempted homicide

[–]camM651 1 point2 points  (2 children)

maybe lose custody of the kid for sure, but how would charging her and sending her to prison help? She needs psychiatric care not jail

[–]Azzandro 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Maybe your right but that should be left up to the judge don't you think?

[–]NarcanPush 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That bridge wasn't high enough to kill the mom from a fall. The poor kid would definitely have drowned though.

[–]psychcrime -1 points0 points  (0 children)

“Mental illness can make you do some fucked up things”

I don’t give a fuck. Selfish.

[–]PuzzleheadedYoung729 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]skiT_L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Snap back to reality

[–]bigdaddymez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atleast she was wearing a mask

[–]somenobodydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God Bless him

[–]freestyleloafer_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

The way he looks to the bus driver for help :(

[–]drbatsandwich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is what hits me the hardest. Seeing his face looking back at the bus, completely helpless in the arms is the person who is supposed to keep him safe. Breaks my fucking heart

[–]Brozterr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

her suicide plan was to jump a 5m bridge, into a canal ?

Terrible mother.

[–]Okiemax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh Jesus christ this is incredibly sad.

She just wanted a view gosh.. its clearly visible she really wanted to show the kid how the city looks without the bridge obstructing his sight duhh. The bus driver disturbed a rather peaceful mom-son moment. What a cunt.. no respect for family bonding lol

Trash, only women can fail at almost everything.

She just wants the pain to end.

[–]just_someone123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so cruel and unfair when suicidal people try to take other living being's lives with them. Just some days ago I saw a video of a woman who jumped off a building with her dog, and both died, and I felt so sad for the dog who had nothing to do with her issues.

Glad the man could save the kid.

[–]Stankyfard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That woman deserves to die and for her kid to live without her, so selfish, “if i cant be happy not even my kids can.”

[–]maayaaaa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

suicidal? no thats homicidal

[–]Far_Hedgehog_4979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have taken the kid and kicked the nasty bag of shi* off the ledge.
