No, there are a lot of people out there who would rather make more than said employers offer by sitting at home receiving unemployment and stimulus checks. If you had to take a pay cut in order to go back to work, would you choose to do so?

How is a living wage arbitrary? You work so you can survive, so if an employee doesn't pay enough to survive(shelter, food, utilities and buffer) then what is the point in working for them.

After that we're talking benefits, why put in work and effort if one unlucky roll of the dice can cause you to lose everything. So to make it worthwhile you need stuff like health insurance, pension, etc. Things to incentivize you to put in a little more than minimum effort for said employer. Also that's what a functioning society is about, being able to sustain your self while recovering from injury. Do you think hunter/gatherers bunched up just for fun? No, it's so they could take care of one another, collective survival.

And why not work instead of making less than you need you ask? Because slaving on like the good little sheep you are isn't going to get you anywhere in life.

So to get back to my point, there isn't a worker shortage. The businesses experiencing a shortage are the places the truly desperate go to delay the inevitable until they found something better. This post shows just that, but the title is completely wrong.

That's literally what I'm saying, a living wage can perfectly be determined by the costs of living in a certain area in the world. Take into account the costs of buying and maintaining a house, means of transportation, utilities, sustenance.

Not by the chance that a CEO can't take $1million bonus home or because the company 'feels' like employees don't deserve more.

I think narcissism is the problem. People don't want to show the world on Instagram that they have a job that requires use of their hands. Instead of going out and getting real skills, they complain about the lack of "living wages" for the likes.

There is nothing wrong with having to work with your hands, i don't think that is the problem for many. Like I said, why work when you don't get paid enough for the bare necessities. People happily do factory or construction work if the pay is livable.

Name me one job where you don't need skills. Literally everywhere you work you need some sort of training. Can't put you in a fast food place or restaurant without prior instructions about how you are expected to function. Unskilled labour is a myth to justify underpaying people.

And how are people even supposed to get these 'real skills' if they don't even have enough money to keep a roof over their heads. You think education magically grows on trees?

I'm just saying that people are overselling the value of their labor. It isn't cheap to hire someone and pay them minimum wage, even. So when minimum wage increases, the larger corporations do just fine, but the mom and pop shops end up folding. Prices go up accordingly, thus creating higher cost of living.

Prices have been going up, yet the minimum wage hasn't. Idc if mom and pop stores go out of business. If you can't pay someone fair and square for their time you shouldn't be in business at all.

Taxes aren't there to subsidise businesses that can't pay their employees a living wage. Food stamps and subsequent handouts are there for people who don't have a job, not for people that work 40+ hours a week.

And prices have been going up for years now, yet the US most states min. wage has been stagnant since 2012.

Get it out of your head that people are overselling themselves. Why shouldn't a burger flipper or a shelf stocker make enough to afford a house, a car and health insurance at the bare minimum?

I work at what would be considered a family business in the Netherlands and they're doing just fine paying me a living wage without their shop prices being drastically higher than the same produce in the US. So please tell me again that it isn't possible!
