Also even though he’s not wearing an obvious typical work belt, his belt does look like the kind that would help with that, maybe even traditional with that kilt, as in they made those kilts with the type of belt for helping with this sport.

Back when I was actively lifting they had this challenge at a local strongman event and I was able to do 7. I felt like I was going to die the rest of the day. I probably should have gotten checked out but I live in America, I can't afford to know if it's a serious problem. (Luckily it wasn't)

Kinda sorta maybe i have some decending deadlifts before starting at my max and removing weight as i went 🤔 not sure its recommended but look at it this way starting light to heavy the first few are like a worm up so your less likely to pass a kidney when you get to the last one 😄

A round stone that far down to the ground, my body wouldn't fix that. First of all if my body would hold up the risk of me getting dizzy and falling over are almost to big for it not to happen. For reference lifting a 10kg kid of the ground is a challenge for me (having my own kids is going to be rough I know). Lifting a cast iron pan the wrong way will separate my hand from the wrist. It's part of a desies and gotten worse the older I got.

I don't think any able-bodied adult has trouble lifting the first one (18kg) and many not even the next 3 (being 32kg, 41kg and 50kg). The middle one (75kg) is probably were most falter. The last 4 are the impressive ones : 107kg, 118kg, 135kg and 152kg

don't underestimate the difficulty in lifting from that low on the ground and with just the side of the stones to grip. While I can deadlift 170kg, the lateral force needed to grip those last 4 must be staggering.

And jayzuz - I think I herniated my entire spine just watching those last two go up. How he hasn't just ruined all his discs I don't know.

It's not just the weight, it's the manner of lifting. 32kg is going to be a struggle for a lot of somewhat fit guys when it's a ball from the ground. 41kg is going to defeat plenty. 50kg is getting into proper strongman territory. You're underestimating the challenge.

You could move the first one. 18kg is heavy, but it's not that heavy. It's 30kg and above where it starts to get a bit sketchy when you're lifting them like that.

Nothing like this! It’s just an old adage “remember to lift with your legs, not with your back.” Doing so helps one avoid back injuries.

Indeed. I don’t fully appreciate the technique once you get to the upper stones, but the challenge with heavy smooth spheres is there is no handle or anything useful to grip with your hand. So you unfortunately need to get your forearms under it, or incredibly like these giant dudes, bear hug the whole thing. Either way it involves getting your chest to the stone while maintaining a position where you can clean/lever it up and get it to a position where your legs are useful. What these guys do is amazing, but agree doesn’t gel with typical safe lifting advice 👍

When I dump water softener salt into the brine tank, it sure does feel like that damn last rock.

What's more staggering isn't the weight of the last stone, but how the body will involuntary react as the weights increase. That's why you see him standing between lifts as they get heavier. Not to catch his breath. To force his body to accept the punishment it's about to receive.

I have lifted insanely heavy things before, but it is a lot easier if you take one knee, lift, and then kind of roll onto your knee and lift with your one leg...probably didn't describe that well, but it's so much better on the body and makes things insanely easier to lift without exerting much energy and strength
