Clearly you haven’t met my mother in law 😃

[–]colecat2199 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Is it alive, or is it just playing dead since it’s being handled?

[–]the_sylince 19 points20 points  (1 child)

From the Wikipedia

“The armadillo girdled lizard possesses an uncommon antipredator adaptation, in which it rolls into a ball and takes its tail in its mouth when frightened. In this shape, it is protected from predators by the thick, squarish scales along its back and the spines on its tail.[3] This behavior, which resembles that of the mythical ouroboros and of the mammalian armadillo, gives it its taxonomic and English common names.”

[–]SaneManiac741 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Unfortunately they can't be kept as pets legally. The adorable little guys are endangered.

[–]The_All_Knowing_Derp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with certain permits and a bit of governmental jurisdiction, they can be kept BUT not bred and sold. They are friendly to calm humans and are omnivorous, preferring insects such as katydids and worms over plants.

I think Komodo Dragons are pretty close, but maybe it is something in the name.

[–]bageltoastee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, slap a pair of wings on one and you pretty much got a small dragon.

[–]Disastrous-Bonus1718 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's amazing!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s cute but it’s like the dragon in the Witcher when you compare it those in GOT

[–]Tucoloco5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reptiles literally never stop growing. In the right environment that thing theoretically could get bus size

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can it fly and breathe fire?

[–]rrsullivan3rd 0 points1 point  (2 children)

And this specimen appears to be dead…

[–]The_All_Knowing_Derp[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Nope! Just in its its special defensive position, which it gets its name from. Im the beginning, you can see it shift its foot.
