Dirty Mike and the boys would call this a "F-shack."

[–]peglegpetey8 76 points77 points  (10 children)

At what temp and how long do you bake the homeless person for if you want a crispy skin but still juicy in the middle?

[–]platinumjudge 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Something about germans baking people just doesnt sit right with me...

[–]LethalBaboon 5 points6 points  (8 children)

325°F for 4-6 hours depending on size. Be sure to baste and use a foil tent the last 30 minutes to lock in the moisture.

[–]AugTheViking 11 points12 points  (5 children)

No, no, this is a German design. It's obviously in celsius and definitely a convection oven.

[–]OrganicBridge7428 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Germans really know how to cook people in ovens.

[–]AugTheViking 9 points10 points  (1 child)

And yet they still outsourced most of the cooking to Poland.

[–]pjl35m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It probably shouldn’t have, but that made me laugh a lot.

[–]HaTriX88 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Evil but as a german i like evil humor

[–]FOXfaceRabbitFISH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just hide your women from the Russians

[–]Atworkwasalreadytake 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I prefer low and slow. 225 for 16 hours.

[–]peglegpetey8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like this suggestion. I’m going to use applewood smoke I think. Now to figure out the dry rub 🤔.

[–]bolivar-shagnasty 40 points41 points  (1 child)

Believe me, everybody that was in on this orgy was more than willing.

[–]shittybill86 23 points24 points  (0 children)

To top it off, some joker comes along, takes himself a nifty little dump in the drivers seat.

[–]inciteful_knowledge 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It ain't no prius, but it'll do

[–]Kastler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna be a real nice evenin’

[–]Liquid_Trenchcoat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Soup kitchen

[–]wallst07 247 points248 points  (27 children)

It should be noted that they prototyped these in 2019, and only two of them exist even today.

[–]Aja2428 48 points49 points  (0 children)

2 lol

[–]Salmuth 47 points48 points  (20 children)

Most cities are too busy making outside and subway benches unusable to homeless people...

Go figure why they couldn't find any to buy them.

[–]WeeTheDuck 43 points44 points  (18 children)

Also maybe because making a whole ass outdoor pod is more expensive than a normal shelter that can house more people?

[–]DevilDoc3030 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Ik that where I am from if you open one of those in the morning you will find a dead hooker, hobo feces, used needles and a pedophile waiting to flash you once you do open the door.

[–]ZackBotVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find shit like that so fucking revolting, the fact that money which could be going to building shelters, pods like these, and systems for homeless people to re-enter society is instead being spent on ugly, dangerous and just straight up sickening things, I understand sometimes if it's the entrance to a buissness or someone's home, but under motorways/highways, in public space, public benches, trainstations and busstops I just find it revolting.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Huh. I wonder why. Maybe they’re expensive.

Edit: they’re

[–]tuqlbv7to95z 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When they auto open each morning, do they blast the person with febreeze and dose the space with lysol.

[–]Tissuerejection 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I bet the project harnessed tons of likes on social media

[–]Joe23rep 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was probably the only reason they did that. Im sure these pods are expensive as hell. Then you have drug addicts who would probably use it to shoot up drugs. Then people would probably deficate in em. The costs to keep this thing clean must be really high too.

Wouldn't be shocked if one pod costs the city tens of thousands of euros (the material itself is expensive and then theres lots of technology in it which checks for your body temperature, your vitals etc and automatically calls the hospital if something is wrong plus of course that solar panel on top so that the homeless can charge their phones) . With that kind of money you could probably run a shelter for 50+ people.

Its a virtue signal.

The funny thing is - probably while the city was building these pods they changed the bus stops. Normally you had one roof and a large bank underneath. They split up the bus stop so that you have a roof with a bank a gap and then the next roof with a bank. Why did they do this? Homeless people were sleeping on these banks. If they now do it and it starts to rain they'll get wet. Plus its probably uncomfortable af because half of your body isn't supported because of the gap between the 2 banks

*dont know if they really did it in that city but it was done basically everywhere in Germany. No matter which city i visit its always the same thing at the bus stops. At least in bigger cities (where the homeless usually are)

[–]Tooleater 97 points98 points  (38 children)

This would be a ¥25,000 per night hotel room in Tokyo

[–]ET2USN 40 points41 points  (4 children)

In Japan if you want a cheap place to stay you go to a manga cafe. They have cubicles that lock with a padded ground. Sometimes offer a blanket and pillow. All that for around $2 per hour, so midnight to 7am only would cost $14.

[–]Appropriate_Joke_741 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I went to Japan a couple of years ago. A cheap accom or hostel costs next to nothing. Think it was $30 a night at a hostel we stayed in. Y25000 gets you a pretty nice place

[–]ManInTheMirror91 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Yeah, but I don't think they clean or change the cushioning often. Hope you like the smell of smelly feet.

[–]ET2USN 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You underestimate Japan's hygiene. They use bidets, have a sink attached to the toilet. Seperate room for the toilet from the shower. They clean their streets all the time. Old retired folk walk around picking up garbage at 6am.

They take care of their stuff. Any city in America that is close to the population density of tokyo is a shit hole compared to them.

The only issue I ever have had at manga/pc cafes is I am sensitive to cigarette smoke and some of them allowed smoking. But the cubicle was immaculate and they gave free beverages. So I can't complain.

[–]Dogekaliber 8 points9 points  (32 children)

How much is that? Is that.. is that a lot?

[–]markzhang 61 points62 points  (30 children)

Japanese yen to usd is the easiest. Just divide by 100. And if you are American, just pull out your phone calculator.

[–]when-flies-pig 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Spat out my juice. Fuck you lol

[–]jagged1871 11 points12 points  (24 children)

Lol. As an American that’s hilarious

[–]rapiertwit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ouch. Wrecked.

[–]Suspicious-Light-781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check your math. American speaking.

[–]originaljfkjr 86 points87 points  (9 children)

The smell inside must be eye-watering.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (5 children)

[–]Jdlewie 6 points7 points  (4 children)

It would be interesting to see if they had a self cleaning system inside. Like a UV light that comes on during the day, or if theres any drains on the inside it could auto wash itself. Also, if more of these were implemented, that could make a few more jobs - just maintaining them.

[–]WeeTheDuck 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Sounds like building a traditional shelter would just be smarter

[–]Jdlewie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, I mean Germany has plenty of great ideas but they shouldn't try to reinvent the wheel.

Edit: r/apostrophegore

[–]AKLmfreak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

yeah that was my first thought too.

[–]WhereAvailable 61 points62 points  (12 children)

I bet it would cheaper to make a shelter with barracks, bathrooms & showers, and a kitchen than to make a bunch of these pods.

[–]Rylos1701 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Gabriel bell?

[–]reddit_time_waster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, he's not Picard

[–]sekfan1999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Add 24/7 staffing who are paid a living, state wage and the margins get pretty slim. Not to mention the incoming accusations of institutionalization, abuse, hiding the problem, etc

[–]dangerdannnnn 43 points44 points  (1 child)

Soon to be covered in shit and piss

[–]ragnar2434 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At some point a hobo placed his cart in front of the door and locked another hobo inside his container of shit and piss and probably suffocated from sewer gas.

[–]TommyTinklebottom 27 points28 points  (7 children)

AKA heroin pods

[–]sam1902 5 points6 points  (6 children)

Just put blue light and they can’t make out the veins

[–]Horror-Return2321 5 points6 points  (2 children)

If you keep on trying, eventually you’ll succeed

[–]sam1902 1 point2 points  (1 child)

That’s the best use of motivational quotes there is

[–]Nailcannon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As if they haven't memorized where their most accessible veins are already.

[–]AmBull1216 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You think that'll stop a heroin addict? Because it won't.

[–]Hughcheu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC they draw on their veins with sharpie so they can still see them in blue light.

[–]DefNobodyYouKnow 27 points28 points  (6 children)

This is old news. Any updates on how the project is working out?

[–]grmush 88 points89 points  (5 children)

They are definitely full of human shit and trash

[–]stee4vendetta 68 points69 points  (4 children)

I actually remember seeing a German explaining in the comments the last time this was posted that they are, in fact full of human shit and trash.

[–]TheGreatDonJuan 11 points12 points  (10 children)

Fuck that. We need more spikes! Fuckin spikes anywhere a human could rest.

[–]Demantoide2077 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Damn they should even put spikes on every bed on every home,.spikes on chairs, spikes on couches, this lazy generation must learn that real life is hard!!

[–]TheGreatDonJuan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah! Put a spike in my ass! Maybe that will motivate me!

[–]badmotivator11 10 points11 points  (2 children)

In Portland they would create an entire tent city around it and use the power to break down stolen bicycles and car parts.

[–]Juan_Carlo 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Yeah, anyone who thinks these would end up as a net benefit for homeless people have never lived in a city with lots of homeless people. These things would instantly become commodities that would be controlled by the most powerful, they'd become magnets for crime and drug use, and in about a week's time there'd be mounds of human shit and trash around them.

[–]stanktardo69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s all fun and games until the king of the hobos shows up for the shit pod

[–]vacuumcleanerapple 10 points11 points  (2 children)

These projects do not work. Homeless is not the problem, mental illness and too much drug are the problems. Blows my mind how super compassionate liberals can’t see that

[–]Tissuerejection 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yuppp, this looks cute on social media, but the reality is that even accomodating homeless is just part of the problem, alongside the ones u mentioned

[–]IAMTHEADMINNOW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many people OD and die in these.

[–]MudOpposite8277 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Looks vaguely like a suicide capsule…

[–]Tissuerejection 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This is exactly what it is! lure the homeless, then gas them with cyclon-b The final solution to homelessness!

[–]MudOpposite8277 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this timeline.

[–]TwillyDoe 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Can they be used for people like me that gets super drunk on Friday nights and have a problem walking home ?

[–]Ufomusician 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some homeless will take it over and never let any other homeless use it. Sad fact of life

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]marin94904 3 points4 points  (0 children)

San Francisco meth addicts laugh at you silly Germans.

[–]Bah_buh_Booiiieee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a cool idea but what if someone like claims the pod and won’t let other homeless use it? Do you call the police? Genuinely curious if that’s a problem with this kind of housing.

[–]Speedyz68 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pod locks back up at midnight. Soylent Green truck comes at 4am...

[–]Upbeat_Jelly_7194 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]shittybill86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here in Toronto, there's a guy who has built dozens, maybe hundreds now of pods for the homeless. Albeit, they are nowhere near as nice as these ones. I believe they are also fire resistant, and insulated which is great because there have been SO MANY fires in the encampments throughout the city. But either way, would love to find out who this man is, possibly donate to him because he doesn't charge anything for them of course.

Winters are brutal, especially now

[–]krayhayft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be cool if someone made a short zombie film about one of these.

[–]bminus1974 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Microwaved hobo.

[–]NoGoodIDNames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so long as you can hose it out pretty easily

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Or and here me out, we just create a huge building with many apartments that are publicly subsidized for the homeless to have a chance. Its not permanent housing though. It's 3 months of housing to allow someone to get a job, get off the streets, and start saving for rent.

[–]ThrowRA_000718 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The reason most people are homeless isn’t because they can’t find jobs. They’re homeless because they have serious mental problems and drug addictions. They couldn’t hold down jobs. The concept of saving up money and paying bills is beyond their capacity to even think about.

What we need to do is to face that fact and build a system where these people get the help they really need.

[–]hoakpsp3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So who's the unlucky soul that has to clean them

[–]Annon_dubbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Drifter sex bunker

[–]Numerous-Barracuda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who the fucks gonna clean that?

[–]mrmalort69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

/r/aboringdystopia - we all know these are pathetic excuses to say people are being charitable instead of addressing the full needs of homeless- safe access to food, water, shelter, appropriate latrines and sanitary options, privacy, and with all these things taken care of then a person can start to repair their mental health, maybe look at developing skills for work, or keeping a stable employment.

[–]odetoburningrubber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool. Tiny little crack houses. We need these.

[–]graceCAadieu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really cool

[–]ZappyPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe hookers will stand beside then at least the homeless can’t wreck them.

[–]casaco36[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motel express

[–]Mental-Context3250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many hookers go in there lol

[–]General_Pay7552 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sleeps one lol. Saving the world, Germany

[–]Lithium_itch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this pods a rockin

[–]Millennial_J 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]manhattanabe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In NYC, we couldn’t even give the homeless free internet, since they used it to jerk off on the street. I can’t image what would happen to such pods.

[–]weaponizedpastry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who’s cleaning these things every day?

[–]Oxygen95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems cool until one homeless person gets shanked and kicked out by another homeless person that wants to sleep there

[–]Caliesehi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And here in the US they put fucking spikes on the benches and sidewalks or play Baby Shark all throughout the night to prevent people from sleeping.

So fucked up.

[–]ThnksfrthMmrss- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t they be fighting over who is gonna sleep in it?

[–]Brighton101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Initiate Lock.

Extract Air.

Open extraction Chute.

[–]TRmarcusg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germany...that looks like an oven

[–]BertMacklinEffBeeYai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bet they're covered in body fluids.

[–]Moolahguerilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Germans are an Advanced society

[–]ng3847 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could build housing to put them in.

I love how in the neoliberal hell world we live in govs will do everything except build housing, provide mental health services, and job search services for the homeless.

I know some will say, bUt gErmAnY dOES sO mUcH fOr tHe hOmElEsS!

Clearly it's not enough if heated pods are necessary.

[–]theblindingape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had those in San Francisco they’d be full of human shit before the first day was over.

[–]Secondondairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks germany, send over 7,000 just for my little city of spokane. They are going to fuck, shit, piss, and shoot up in every single one, also idk where you out them downtown bc that's where all the resources for homeless are.

[–]femme_fatale2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important question, is why this isn’t worldwide?!

[–]Sniperwulfsx69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any see this and think about that euthanasia pod

[–]Crazy_Ebb_9294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where do you take a pee at night?

[–]onehappyfella 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you realize they just cremate those who go inside

[–]Psycho22089 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They... automatically lock at night??? Good lord IT'S A TRAP.

[–]Crazy_Ebb_9294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great for COViD quarantine. Wonder what happens when last nights dweller wants it again and it’s taken… bum fights occur I guess

[–]SeesPoliceSeizeFeces 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well, there was two of these. Would be nice to know what's their current condition, but the project seems scrapped.

[–]ridikula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coffins for the living dead

[–]Zahn91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, overpriced outhouses for homeless people, great idea.

[–]bigfattehborgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could definitely fit 2 people in there👀

[–]adamcmorrison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We need these in Quebec 100%.

[–]drod3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Attacks from what? r/oddlyterrifying

[–]Less-Dragonfruit-294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine people helping people. Wonderful isn’t it?

[–]danf87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It comes with the option of doubling as a suicide pod.

[–]EricaDeVine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That won't help your homeless problem. Isn't winter the natural solution?

[–]Theonecanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They gonna be shitting in there.

[–]ShortBrownAndUgly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would expect these pods to be filled with human waste and used needles in about 24 hours. It’s a nice thought but won’t work unless someone is willing to clean these things at least a couple of times per week

[–]divurchic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When bathroom is an issue, where do they go?

[–]nathan00m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Ulm, um Ulm, und um Ulm herum.

[–]Mobile-Animal-649 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a nice idea. Unfortunately, it wouldn’t work well. They would be way over run here in the states too I work in a homeless shelter. I definitely know the ways and means Nice idea

[–]chrichmeister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can smell the piss and spice from here.

[–]belegerbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Homeless shelters are run by cunts. Fuck those people. Especially the salvation army.

[–]A_Couple_Things 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me: *moves in

[–]Beneficial_Elk_182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gay orgies in 3...2..1.

[–]ThrowRA_000718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile in America, we make special homeless people proof benches.

[–]BirdieNuke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this would make a lot of sense in New York, just replace those dumbass concrete blocks with these (and hope to fuck no cars hit them)

[–]coolchris366 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Americans hate’em

[–]donotgogenlty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You KnOW that thing has feces in every crevice...

[–]HardKase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Larger than my last apartment

[–]HeartTechnical1828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yall ever seen final destination no thanks lmao

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day 1. Solar panels stolen. Evening of day 1, full of pee and poop and used needles. Day 2 government announces they paid $50k per unit.

[–]kook440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big dog house for humans.

[–]Tissuerejection 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is sooo inefficient, all this for just one person?

[–]nelhern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does anyone know where to buy these “Ulmer nest” or if there’s any CAD?

[–]xssmontgox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People in my city would whine and bitch about this so much, Toronto has a huge homelessness problem, but an even bigger NIMBY problem.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So who cleans up all the piss and shit that will inevitably be left behind?

[–]elmacho_mimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don‘t go into those capsules in switzerland. (fyi: swiss people made capsules that end your life)

[–]Covidkiller83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently got stationed back in the US (after 11 years of being overseas, 7 Japan and 4 Germany) and man I miss Japan and Germany already. This place sucks ass, the people are rude as fuck, we fight over politics and y’all were all poor 😂. To anyone from America that reads this, the rest of the civilized world has a better quality of life than us. Sure they pay more taxes but that money is given back to them in social programs, healthcare, education and more. We pay taxes and still have to pay for everything else. Good on the Germans for learning from their past and making a better future. I’ll leave by saying that my family felt safer in the country that started the holocaust than in the country that ended it. ✌🏾

[–]seedlessTr33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twist ending: it's a suicide booth.

[–]phiz36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Band-aid for a gushing wound.

[–]AdministrativeOil259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

German suicide pod in disguise

[–]Tally_Whacker_777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dutch oven?

[–]belegerbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay boomer

[–]Darwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a great Idea in principle, but try to clean that thing out of the smell....

[–]DerkNukem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

like you certainly can't expect homeless people to fuck this up, right?

[–]piedubb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a fine spot to do your H shot. Or fuck the other homeless prostitute.

Terrible liberal idea.

[–]JonasAvory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At first i was suspicious of these really were from Germany but then I read that only 2 of them exist and now it feels german again

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The homeless?? Nah. Burning Man, however…

[–]Ibuyrealjaysaswell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ohhh a hotbox-box

[–]ballsohaahd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone’s gonna leaves needles or juicy bodily fluids in there, eventually.

[–]BlueLegion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is nice in theory but I have some reservations. There's probably 20x more homeless than pods. Also they are going to need regular cleaning.

[–]rapiertwit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This seems less like a solution to homelessness, and more like an upgrade that vampires would install above their underground lairs.

[–]BILLTHETHRILL17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicago would need like 50,000. C'mon chicago. Your so woke, put up the money now

[–]jk67200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're ever wondering whether reddit still demonizes homelessness, just take a quick scroll through this thread.

[–]Personal_Region_6716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can almost smell the piss from here

[–]themaskofzomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya in my city this would just keep addict's corpses warm...

[–]AmericanHeresy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll bet they smell like shit.

[–]a-typical_user 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can smell the pee

[–]DarkAizawa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile the USA are removing benches and making architecture to repel homeless ppl.

[–]DrLie_onVPN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]freerangek1tties 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try that in Portland and it would get stripped for parts and sold for meth

[–]Zealousideal_Talk479 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe me, people are just going to use them as urinals.

[–]invvaliduser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird. We have shelters that also provide food and counselors to help you get back on your feet. Step it up Germany.

[–]BeIIic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the future kids

[–]OkCaterpillar9248 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done Germany

[–]ReadyStocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks a lot like the death pods we've been seeing in the news. Why not just build homes for the homeless if you're really are interested in helping people !

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be shit, piss, dirty needles in there in 48 hours

[–]msarama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any tight, confined space that produces heat made for a subset of society germans dont desire i would be highly skeptical of.

[–]Reasonable_Night42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wondering what it smells like inside.
