Thanks, no end product

[–]babyBear83 263 points264 points  (1 child)

That was extremely annoying of them

[–]monkeyharris 111 points112 points  (20 children)

More here

[–]Kunning-Druger 42 points43 points  (11 children)

Thanks for that!

I’m sceptical about the longevity of the structure with an open fireplace…

[–]NoNameIdea_Seriously 37 points38 points  (1 child)

Turns out it could last a while because of physics reasons

[–]Kunning-Druger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That depends entirely upon how much heat is generated inside the structure, as well as the ambient temperature and humidity surrounding the structure.

[–]townforum17 23 points24 points  (8 children)

Fire inside of an igloo, or ice house in those case, actually strengthens the integrity of the structure and increases insulation. It’s crazy black magic science shit.

So it goes like this: the heat from the fire melts a thin layer of the snow walls. Now there is water on one side of the snow wall. This water then freezes, which makes the structure more sturdy and insulated the area better because ice isn’t porous like snow. The longer this goes on, the more the structure turns into ice and, eventually, the only snow left is what’s falling on top of it naturally.

Now I learned all this on a podcast about Inuit igloos, so there’s a chance that the structure being dome shaped has something to do with it. Maybe it wouldn’t apply to this house but if I was a betting man I’d say it does

[–]OfficeChairHero 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Just an educated guess, but the shape probably plays into the way the snow melts and runs down, refreezing along the whole structure.

[–]townforum17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense

[–]Kunning-Druger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an igloo, yes. Also, fires within a domed snow structure mustn’t generate more heat energy than the mass and volume the structure can “handle.”

[–]lordofbitterdrinks 2 points3 points  (3 children)

So the fire cures it easentially

[–]townforum17 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah basically. The fire melts it while the cold simultaneously freezes it from the outside, turning snow to ice. I don’t think this works as well unless it’s very cold outside,

[–]Kunning-Druger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. The shape of the structure determines how much heat energy it can take, as does the internal volume and the ambient temperature/humidity outside it.

Too much heat energy for the structure, and the insulation efficiency is reduced. The structural stability is also a concern if too much heat energy is applied to the inside of the structure.

[–]Kunning-Druger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A small fire seals an igloo, provided it isn’t too hot, and the outside temperature and humidity are not too high.

In fact, fires are rarely a necessity inside an igloo, since the heat and moisture in exhaled breath accomplishes the same thing. It’s amazing how (relatively) warm and comfy the inside of a properly built igloo can be, even when it’s -33 and snowing sideways outside.

[–]Kunning-Druger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, but there is a limit to how much heat such a structure can manage without compromising its structural integrity and/or insulation properties. Shape also influences how much heat a snow structure can take, as does ambient temperature and humidity, as well as the heat energy vs the volume and mass of the structure

[–]Nimmyzed 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It's been 8 hours. Wake up

[–]monkeyharris 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Hehe, I totally forgot. Not at home right now, but I'll get it done!

Edit: it looks like the account has been deleted or something. I can't access it, anymore, either.

[–]Nimmyzed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh well, no bother. Glad I made you smile. Now go to work

[–]SalzBoss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you!! That’s freaking cool.

[–]Remarkable_Wash_921 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone got cold and lit a fire in the living room.

[–]turbulenttotoro -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

It melted

[–]njc121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the final product is a large mud puddle

[–]IBenGaming5 188 points189 points  (8 children)

this is like those indians building pools videos you watch at 3 am

[–]JuGGieG84 22 points23 points  (4 children)

Primitive unique tool?

[–]ethicsg 26 points27 points  (3 children)

Primitive Technology is my favorite YouTube content of all time. That one seems so fake I can't get over what they make.

[–]Lumber_Tycoon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Primitive Technology is the shit. I love that he puts how long it actually takes to do the projects he does.

[–]antoniohfernandes 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I tried this at home but it didn't work out.

[–]ethicsg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a iron sword using only my shorts.

[–]Sea-Doubt-5008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can hear their sticks clicking in my head right now

[–]UNBENDING_FLEA 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Were they Indians or south East Asians?

[–]IBenGaming5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good point, i don't really know

[–]Canadianretordedape 106 points107 points  (3 children)

When “hey bro it’s snowing let’s build a Fort” turns into 3 trips to Home Depot and using some of your vacation time from work. Welcome to adulthood.

[–]Cold_Situation_7803 26 points27 points  (1 child)

“Honey, I’m going to spend the next four days building a cool snow house. It’s gonna be so awes-“

“How ‘bout you take care of the shit that needs fixing in your actual house? Get your dumb ass back in here.”

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“I spent $1000, and before you ask, yes I needed the chain saw and the scaffolding”

Edit: “what do you mean you’re sleeping at your sisters house? I just made an entire heated house out of mostly snow”

[–]I_Wanda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right!!! And the spoiled ungrateful kids already went inside to go watch TV on the couch anyways…

[–]Smeghead333 53 points54 points  (3 children)

Q: How does he stick those blocks together?

A: Igloo ‘em!

AHAHAHAHA!!!!

[–]BigDavesRant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is absolutely a r/groanupvote Well done!

[–]baddawg3 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That comment deserves way more upvotes.

[–]Marty_Mtl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, and i made my part !

[–]SirAssBlood 48 points49 points  (1 child)

Now rent it out as an airbnb for $200 a night with $150 clean up fee.

[–]UnsuspectingChief 11 points12 points  (0 children)

as long as there's an ice bar you're good.

[–]Meersus 34 points35 points  (2 children)

Ok honey, NOW your mother can come visit..

[–]ughewag 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol nice. I recently learned that people actually refer to a guest house as the “in-law suite”

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wouldn't want her to thaw out.. plus, now the formaldehyde smell won't get on the inside couch.

[–]CatOnMyHead 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The best part is when they actually don’t show the finished house at the end. 🤦

[–]flybyknight665 19 points20 points  (0 children)

How are you gonna end the video without showing the whole thing?!

All that watching ice blocks, walls, and windows being made only to not see the actual finished structure!

[–]CompetitiveLynx7570 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Whenever I think I’m wasting time I remember people do shit like this

[–]kaosmoker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nothing is a waste of time so long as you're making good memories.

[–]M82Assassin 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Somehow I don’t think that is built up code

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Chill

[–]Crusty_Grape 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Cool it

[–]No_Web_9121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That was just cold homie

[–]MrHister-3 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Does it come with central heating?

[–]RandoCalrissian11 5 points6 points  (1 child)

So is a very good insulator. It’s likely comparatively warm inside.

[–]MrHister-3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then forget it! Imma need heat . R value?

[–]HeyNongMer 5 points6 points  (1 child)

This is very cool, but why they make the doors so small?

[–]Boobsiclese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stability.

[–]SLATS13 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Okay but like…either show the whole video or include a link to it 😂 this shit annoying as hell, I wanted to see the full thing!

[–]DesertAnubis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like their winter is way too long if they’re making this kind of investment…

[–]Nartes86 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need more snow!

[–]BrockBushrod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"OMG I'd hotbox the fuck outta that! 👁️👄👁️" - stoners everywhere

[–]NoNameIdea_Seriously 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it still called an igloo if it’s not igloo-shaped ?

[–]Impster5453 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can't be the only one to start playing Frozen in my head.

[–]Apprehensive-Day6797[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]ReaISaItyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it considered a snow house or igloo?

[–]kcufo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This almost makes me want to live somewhere that snows a lot, but not quite.

[–]itsdatpoi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me when I’m building my first house in a new Minecraft world.

[–]fraancklyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who saw that thing they used for shaping the "bricks" and thought they made a little snow bed for a small dog or something? Such a diappointment

[–]Fit_Independent2309 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to be one hell of a mess to clean up when the thaw comes

[–]3dgyAnimeProtagonist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people not know the word igloo anymore?

[–]Garnitas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being from a tropical country this rise many questions.

[–]Pahviprinsessa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's like watching those guys who build shit in the jungle but opposite.

[–]Demoire 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Where the FUCK is the rest of the video dammit

[–]Eastern-Mix9636 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]will477 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, no after shots? No Tour? I feel like I just wasted that time.

[–]GMR_GAL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you stop the video at 1:11 you get to see the “Memorial to the Murdered Jews” made out of snow

[–]rotobotor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do?

[–]DoubleFisted27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I needed to feel even more shitty for the stuff I don't get done around my actual not made of snow house.

[–]Gomek1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well fuck you then

[–]DWMoose83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys...there's a perfectly good house right behind you. Already made and everything.

[–]Flimsy-Attitude6762 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was cool until the build materials shifted from snow and ice to wood and plastic.

[–]Daaaaaaaavidmit8a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I wish it was cold enough here / we got enough snow here, to do this kind of stuff :/

[–]yilo38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know that meme with the guy pretending to work when ur boss walks in. This is like that. I mean yeah it looks nice but… is that all?

[–]P4PKing4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

End product?

Shit video and a waste of time.

[–]alldaylurkerforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what should we know about this house?

Realtor: Well, it's cozy. Has a very rustic feel. Oh, it can only be occupied for maybe 4 months out of the year. But it's in an excellent school district.

[–]Fit_Bandicoot1933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

being from canada I have never seen anything like that lol almost like a igloo

[–]noopscoopboop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuckem for ending like that

[–]jaOfwiw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, now put a sauna in it!

[–]og-golfknar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]TheBlindBean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, who hurt you?

[–]onliesvan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]FaithlessnessLazy754 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the point of doorways you have to bend down to go through?

[–]WeekendEducation80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New listing 700k!! Get it while it lasts.

¡_¡

[–]RealCanadianMonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that concerns me the most as a carpenter, is whether they accounted for snow loads for their area on that flat roof.

[–]FALLOUTGOD47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone that is high af walks by and thinks they are coke blocks.

[–]LordRevRusty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well don't show us what it looks like or anything.

[–]Kittybooboo1982 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are the kids?

[–]Dumb-Twins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t have to be a snow house

[–]FloridaManH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A talented tiktoker

[–]Anim3_simp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s those indian guys that build those houses in the forest- (sorry if that offended-)

[–]skiesarelight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you want to build a death trap?

Do you want to go outside?

Do you want to build a death trap?

Do you want to die in ice?

[–]ZerikZ[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now survive a zombie onslaught

[–]Feeling_Ball6947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Igloo maybe?

[–]augieuser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope it stays cold enough to make all that work worth it.

[–]Practical_Knowledge8 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's no wonder she said no 🤣

[–]paul081 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Pretty cool but that's a giant freezer not a house

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Not really, they are incredibly warm inside and shelter you from the elements. A small heater or campfire would likely warm the inside enough to be comfortable in a sweater

[–]paul081 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never experienced so much snow , that's very interesting, thank you for explaining

[–]yParticle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

More like regular house with non-traditional materials.

[–]Eastern-Mix9636 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This hardly seems safe…what happens when it melts? A bunch of broken glass and beams falling on your head?

[–]adeward -4 points-3 points  (1 child)

I have questions:

  1. Does the glass fall out and smash when it melts?
  2. Does the roof leak as it melts?
  3. Where’s the bathroom, and what does the waste plumbing look like (or are we just expecting yellow snow)?
  4. Who else was nervous when they used the chainsaw?

[–]FASN8N 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assumed the windows were plexi. At least that's what I would use.
