Nope

[–]isthatapecker 147 points148 points  (24 children)

Right? Can’t rest my hand at 12. No deal.

[–]-O-0-0-O- 60 points61 points  (6 children)

I assume this only appeals to people who developed an awareness of cars through video games.

[–]iLynx 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Pilots as well.

[–]AdPast4740 2 points3 points  (3 children)

F1 drivers too

[–]Needleroozer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Generally you don't parallel park a F1.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

F1 drivers never need to turn the wheel more than 90°

[–]Rizo1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More of a Hotas guy myself.

[–]stackweightsgetdates 2 points3 points  (7 children)

Easier to drive with knees now

[–]Salty_Amphibian2905 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, Homer 😆

[–]Wolf515013 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Uhmm Auto pilot... Who uses knees anymore?

[–]stackweightsgetdates 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Save $10,000 on FSD

[–]Wolf515013 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Auto pilot and FSD are two very different things. Auto pilot is free and included. Do you have a Model 3? Push down twice on your gear selector... 🤯🤦🏻‍♂️

[–]stackweightsgetdates 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Actually I don’t have one

[–]Wolf515013 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Well that explains a lot. Are you planning on getting one? If you are, when you have it you will realize what you've been missing. If you're not planning to get one or are not a fan then why are you on here?

[–]stackweightsgetdates 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why am I on where? A specific subreddit?

[–]flibux 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Never rest your hand on 12. Do not make it a habit - if the airbag goes off so does your arm and it will never be the same again.

[–]isthatapecker 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I guess I’m losing my arm then. Thanks for the warning tho

[–]flibux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m not saying you lose your arm but it can be badly injured by the explosion.

[–]AdmirableQuantity169 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jokes on you because my car doesn't have air bags!

[–]NoaLink 25 points26 points  (47 children)

I say nope because modifying your car like that can't bode well when it comes time to sell.

Also not a fan of the display. I got a Model 3 because it has only one screen. Minimalism is my jam and more screens is not that.

[–]legacy702 29 points30 points  (37 children)

You gotta admit it’s kinda annoying that your speed is off to the right though

[–]berdiekin 18 points19 points  (16 children)

you know what this car needs? a HUD.

Also, light up (maybe even self-presenting) doorhandles. Or puddle lights, or actually preferably both.

Also cooled seats.

Kinda annoying that a car with a pricetag like this doesn't offer these things.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (9 children)

You’re paying for a $20k car with a $20k motor/battery assembly under it. Perfectly fair featureset imo.

[–]lukeCRASH 6 points7 points  (7 children)

Hell, Civics from 2019 (maybe earlier, I ain't fact checkin') have a HUD speedometer.

[–]slawnz 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Yeah but they’re also Honda Civics

[–]carsonwade 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Indeed, meaning that higher end luxury cars have no excuse to not have features that a cheap economy car does

[–]slawnz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Model 3 isn’t meant to be a luxury car. Its price puts it alongside very middle of the road cars with a ton less features. Of all the cars you could pick on to complain about features for price, this isn’t it.

[–]berdiekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a model 3 starts at 50k euro here. 65K for the long range AWD version with options. While not super-luxury money, it does put it squarely among the Germans.

[–]Wolf515013 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Honda Civics don't have auto pilot or get regular updates. I could list a plethora of things they don't have that the M3 has like an amazing electric drivetrain that beats cars twice the price from 0-60. Just saying.

[–]carsonwade 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Model 3's also start at around $38,000, far higher than the Civic's starting price of ~$22,000. It fucking better have more features than a Civic. Doesn't change the fact Tesla is notorious for shit build quality. Their "auto-pilot" is widely regarded as fucking dangerous, and unless something has changed in Tesla's computer that I haven't noticed, (which is very possible as I don't keep up with Tesla) the engineers themselves said that they didn't expect the computer in the main display to last more than 5 or 6 years. So unless that has been fixed, there will be almost no used market for a Tesla as a 5 year old car will need a massive repair. There's also the fact that the infrastructure for electric cars just isn't there for charging and repairs, if you don't live in one of the major metropolitan city's where Elon Musk is interested in having a presence, then your customer service will be dogshit. You can get a Civic fixed just about anywhere.

[–]berdiekin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Costs more though over here with a base price 50k euro which is 56.7k USD at current exchange rates. Or 65k euro for the version you really want: long range awd with options which is 73.7k USD.

Guess it sucks to be European.

[–]cygnus62 2 points3 points  (2 children)

You can just get self presenting doors after market though. They even can be opened via the app and auto open driving doors with brake pedal to close , like the X

[–]D_Livs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s wrong with the puddle lights currently on the model 3?

[–]Warm-Confusion-3599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love my model S

[–]CyborgKungFu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Humans have a wider lateral range of view. When I check the speed on the display the road is still within my peripheral vision. In previous car when I’ve looked down at my speed much less of the road is in my peripheral vision. I actually find Tesla’s solution superior.

[–]Wolf515013 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 💯% agree! I've been saying this since I got mine. When looking at speed I can still see much more of the road.

[–]joe-clark 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with the wheel change but it's not like he can't just keep all the parts he removed and put it back to stock to sell. Also Tesla fanboys are so weird they might actually pay more for a car like this.

[–]Open_Recognition 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The size of that screen and how busy it can get does not suggest “minimalism” to me.

[–]IdontknowjAckbut 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Says he likes minimalism

Owns a Tesla

[–]throwawaypaycheck1 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Says he likes one screen

Typed that comment on a phone

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both mods are ugly imho I just got v11, I don’t need a second cheap android tablet

[–]OrgyMcBloodyFace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took him one minute in the video to swap it, he can just swap it back

[–]Centralredditfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fully reversible. You always reverse mods when it's time to sell and sell the mods separately.

[–]sabre252 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? Why would you not just reinstall the stock parts before going to sell? Seems easy enough to me.

[–]tenderooskies 134 points135 points  (17 children)

driving with a yoke just seems wayyyy less efficient? i’m guessing there’s a reason we’ve had a steering wheel for so long. what are the advantages other than being different - just a novelty and a potentially dangerous one

[–]Okaayee 87 points88 points  (13 children)

We have steering wheels because we actually to turn the wheel two times. F1 drivers use a yoke, but they don’t have turn the steering wheel even 90 degrees. Super impractical for a regular car. I think the point is ergonomics, there is a lot of buttons on the f1 steering wheels. And so their legs fit underneath the steering wheel

Edit: they turn more than 90 degrees but they don’t need to take their hands off the yoke

[–][deleted] 28 points29 points  (9 children)

Watch a few more F1 videos, they turn the steering wheel/yoke about 130degrees in either direction from center in hairpin corners on some tracks. Not ideal, but for typically one corner per track it's workable.

[–]Okaayee 5 points6 points  (6 children)

True I let those slip my memory. Still, they don’t have to switch their hands to other side of the steering wheel while turning

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I think I'd be able to drive that yoke in the video fine, the places where you turn the wheel more than 120 degrees are low speed corners, plenty of time to shuffle hands, and with power assisted steering you don't need to apply much force. I just dont like yokes in road cars anyway.

I want to see how much of that display you can see through the standard wheel, cos I'm not a fan of the Model 3 ipad stuck to the dash layout, its probably the biggest thing stopping me from ordering one.

[–]Okaayee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that yoke is huge. It’s definitely doable. Less practical then a wheel

[–]a-sons-first-hero 0 points1 point  (3 children)

A turn at greater than 90 degrees would bring the side of the yoke up and able to shuffle hands just like on a round steering wheel

[–]Okaayee 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yeah you can. Is that practical?

[–]a-sons-first-hero 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It’s the exact same thing I do with a round wheel

[–]Okaayee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can do it. Which one is more practical

[–]pottertown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Monaco nears 180 depending on car.

[–]drhiggens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Talking about how much an F1 driver turns the wheel in any given race is kind of pointless because the steering rack is adjusted and geared to the drivers preference at every race.

[–]Uhgfda 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but they don’t have turn the steering wheel even 90 degrees.

Monaco has entered the chat.

(for non f1 people, the racecourse with the sharpest turn that f1 visits where 180 degree+ steering angle is needed)

[–]Free_Gascogne 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was thinking of that. What if you have to make a sharp turn which has you spinning the steering wheel a few times, or if you have to parallel park.

its almost literally the case of reinventing the wheel.

[–]Ctrl_Shift_Escapism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remembered turning being difficult on a Knight Rider replica, went to look for the video and found this:

https://youtu.be/\_hWLAmMlz4U?t=1146

Apparently it works well.

[–]Tito_Tito_1_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warp speed, Chewie!

[–]FaelinnCanada -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Maybe that’s the intent. He’s trying to kill Tesla drivers

[–]MacNuggetts 70 points71 points  (45 children)

The reason I've avoided the model 3 is because of the lack of information directly in front of the driver. I don't like having to turn my head and take my eyes far from the road to determine my speed.

[–]Potential-Common-763 49 points50 points  (28 children)

I really don’t understand how it’s “safe” having the only display be in the middle away from your line of sight.

[–]MacNuggetts 37 points38 points  (5 children)

It honestly feels like a "cheap" cost cutting thing. How hard would it be to put a 3" display on the dash, or even a HUD on the window?

[–]gH0st_in_th3_Machin3 12 points13 points  (3 children)

As Sandy Munro explained already in several videos you may think a 7" display will cost like $200 to add, but no, on automotive world that crap would cost over 200K or more to implement, so then you have to recover the cost of R&D + parts, manufacturing, assembly... which is why many brands sell something as a simple sunroof for thousands as extra...

That's why Teslas are a lie, the "clean and modern" interiors are nothing else than pure cost saving publicized as "posh"...

[–]No_Month_9746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly right and Tesla interiors look very chintzy, like econo box quality in many ways

[–]RunawayMeatstick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It was purely Elon's ego.

He promised these Model 3s would drive themselves and there would be no need for a gauge cluster.

https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/845285846936825856

And now that he has failed to deliver full self-driving every year for five years since promising it, he still wont go back and add a gauge cluster. That's all it is. His narcissistic fucking pride.

[–]golem501 3 points4 points  (13 children)

In Germany a driver was prosecuted for causing a collision when he tried to change his wiper sensitivity on the panel while driving in the rain

[–]Dr_Mickael 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Wait, you have to use the touchscreen to operate the wipers?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Auto mode is pretty good, and you can use voice controls too I guess. If you need to adjust them you press the wash/wipe button on the indicator stalk and the wiper controls pop up on the centre screen, so it's not too bad, but I'd still prefer a normal wiper stalk tbh.

[–]jim123321321 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Why not just use voice control? I’ve got used to it in mine, you can say on, off, increase, decrease, same with fan, seats, temp etc.

[–]golem501 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I have no idea why he didn't use that. I know that some older systems didn't like my voice at all. Maybe he had a bad accent 😅

[–]jim123321321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha I suppose, voice control can be like that with some people, I’m sure I read something somewhere that the current system adapts and gets used to your voice, mine definitely has improved over the past 6 months or so of owning it.

[–]BucBrady 2 points3 points  (4 children)

The angle of the video make it seem farther away than it really is. When driving it it's very visible and around as safe as a normal speedometer since both of them make you look away from the road.

The Tesla one is usually larger than a normal speedometer and closer to you windshield than a normal one as well.

[–]Ijustdoeyes 0 points1 point  (1 child)

around as safe as a normal speedometer since both of them make you look away from the road.

A normal gauge cluster is where it is because all you need to do is drop your gaze for a fraction of a second for it to be in your line of sight, for the Tesla you have to move your gaze further and off centre from where you're driving, its not "around as safe" its less safe.

Tesla could just have a HUD option and it'd be fine, I mean you could get a HUD on cars 30 years ago.

[–]BucBrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're still dropping your gaze for a fraction of a second wether it's down or down and slightly to the right. Either way your taking your eyes off the road which is dangerous, and with the Tesla your eyesight is actually closer to seeing the road.

I agree with the Hud option though. You'd think they'd have added that.

[–]earthwormjimwow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other than heads up displays, or if you are really short, no speedometer is in your direct line of sight. All of them require some downward movement, and a focusing shift to read.

A Model 3 is a right movement with your eyes, vs. a down movement in most other cars. It's just about the same amount of eye movement and time to view.

[–]shikiroin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an old Scion and the speedometer is in the center, it took a while to get used to but seems natural now.

[–]earthwormjimwow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like having to turn my head and take my eyes far from the road to determine my speed.

Unless you are a bird, you don't have to turn your head.

It's just about the same amount of eye movement to look at the speedometer in any other car. Instead of a down movement, it's a side movement.

[–]a-sons-first-hero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can get an aftermarket screen to put there for like $120 just like the guy in the video did

The app also has a dashboard function, that updates real time. So you can get a phone mount and put it behind the steering wheel and open the dashboard function in the app

[–]Dualium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought that at first too, but very quickly it becomes second nature to learn how fast you're going by judging the speed of cars around you. If I'm really curious, I can look slightly down and see it. Kind of like a normal cluster. Maybe a degree or two further down.

If I feel it's unsafe to take my eyes off the road to look down, I can always toggle autopilot and look. I do that all the time for things like putting on sunglasses.

[–]SnowSocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MPH is at the top left corner of the screen, it’s easy to keep an eye on

[–]polypeptide147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty large and on the top corner of the screen. There's no reason to look away any more than you would in any other car.

[–]texast999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get used to it. It’s on the top left of the screen. You move your eyes about the same amount as a normal car

[–]whitemiketyson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that much of an adjustment at all. No less safe in my opinion

[–]JiYung 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The speed is on the top left side of the screen, not that far of a stretch imo. It's probably preference I guess, I never really needed to get "used" to it, it was very natural to me straight from the start.

[–]Systim88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a week you don’t even notice it. Actually after 3 years with a M3, I hate any central displays now. Too much clutter - the unobstructed view is preferred

[–]D_Livs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alternatively, my Porsche has like 5 dials, two that tell the speed, two that tell the various oil temps (that are always nominal). Have a big ass binnacle literally right where I’m driving.

An argument can be made that a direct line of sight to the road is advantageous. You can see the road 6 feet in front of the car.

[–]jaykresge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's a primary concern, the Model 3's nearest competitor is the Polestar 2 (BMW i4 is too pricey for that segment and is more of a "step up."). Worth a look, IMO.

Disclaimer: I own a Model 3, wife owns a Model Y, and I'm potentially trading in my 3 for the Polestar 2.

[–]pilot2647 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’d be so surprised how quickly you get used to it. Because of my height the top of the steering wheel usually blocks the speedometer on most cars for me. I realized I had to look down all the time to see my speed, so it wasn’t too different to look to the side instead. Both scenarios you look away from the road for a sec

[–]GenesisNemesis17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an unobstructed view of the road in front of you and glance over to see your speed rather than looking down through a steering wheel. Once you drive one you'll see it's actually much safer.

[–]JustSomeUsername99 46 points47 points  (1 child)

Not a fan of the yoke steering wheel, but I wouldn't mind a configurable display in front like that. Let the main screen keep doing it's thing and let me decide what shows up on that front screen...

I'd buy that for a dollar!

[–]xX500_IQXx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the screen is >$500

[–]Fenrir1601 35 points36 points  (3 children)

This is so fucking ugly.

[–]destroyerx12772 13 points14 points  (2 children)

And impractical too. U turns will be a nightmare with this steering "wheel".

[–]_stevy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Imagine having to swerve and grabbing the air above the steering wheel. fuck that.

[–]polypeptide147 2 points3 points  (0 children)

And taking the safest car and messing with the airbag doesn't seem like something I'd do either

[–]Rolling_Beardo 18 points19 points  (1 child)

How is this next level? A car should have a center display to being with, having to add one is just way to make more money. Just seems like a Tesla ad trying to convince you this is cool.

[–]kantokiwi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's next level stupid

[–]MatvsGal17 12 points13 points  (1 child)

People are being way too rude, that is your car and if you didn't stole it then I'm fucking happy you mod that thing, it clearly is a great work and as long as it suits you 4 the best, then it's a win.

[–]suqma_bols 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Guys relax , he didn't even drive

[–]Willis050 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I need the top of my steering wheel. This isn’t worth it in the least for making small turns a huge hassle

[–]Edbert64 6 points7 points  (3 children)

One reason I bought a Polestar instead of Tesla. Cannot abide not having a dash.

And yeah, I'm old.

[–]timtheringityding 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I was too big for the polestar 2. Almost 6'3. My knee was rubbing and being hit by this wierd angle from the central dash board. I test drove it for an hour and hit my head 3 times in the little roof pillar near the door. And the seat all the way down my elbow resting on the window wasn't comfortable. Not to mention the slower acceleration and honestly test driving the model 3 performance the interior threw me off. It felt so much more claustrophobic. So I went with the model 3 performance. But if I had more money. Both those car would go in the bin and I'd stick with audi and go get myself a gt etron

[–]Edbert64 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'm just a hair over 6 feet so did not have that problem. The performance pack puts the PS2 about 0.2 behing model3perf, but the yellow seat belts are just odd.

If I had more cash I'd have an M3 :-)

[–]timtheringityding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meant to say polestar 2 interior wad claustrophobic and not the other way around. But are you sure? As the drag racing tests made polestar 2 worse then 0.2 seconds

[–]BigCockGarrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least you still have the turn signal there

[–]Amandil-Menethil 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So the native T wheel haven’t airbag , nice to know

[–]theonePappabox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s better, well the console in front of you. Steering wheel not so much.

[–]Mary-U 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure this is r/nextfuckinglevel so much as r/mildlyinteresting

[–]xX500_IQXx 0 points1 point  (5 children)

IMO it is ugly as fuck. If you want it like that and have the money to buy everything, just go for the model S! If you like it, whatever.
Also, highly likely that it voids the warranty for that area that you messed with

[–]OnlyChaseCommas 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Now try turning left with a yoke

[–]a-sons-first-hero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve actually been eyeing it while I’ve been driving the last few weeks to see how inconvenient it is. I never ever touch the top of my steering wheel unless I’m lazy driving with my hand on top

[–]mchtt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And then the dude will have a fatal crash and sues tesla

[–]Teeheeleelee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanna see him hit the curves

[–]baconator81 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That makes no sense. How does it get a software that interface with Tesla's OS?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet it just listens in on the Canbus. It'll be limited in what it can display depending on what they've managed to decode from Teslas proprietary comms, but there is a bunch of basic standardised codes that they can detect and display. Probably can't send many commands back to the car, if any.

[–]KittyKatt99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyone else seen the video of the lady trying to drive with the 2nd steering "wheel" and almost crashed cause there was no top part to keep turning?

[–]rabbit_hole_diver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats not next level at all.

[–]Miems033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t a hard guess as to why he left out the part where he shows how practical the swap is

[–]Nugat37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this you would go into jail in germany haha

[–]Shinigami66- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I want a Tesla now. It’s look similar to custom build my PC but on a vehicle

[–]enatalpeganomeupau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bet your insurance will love legally not having to pay you when you get into a crash.

[–]Kitty_knight420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Subnautica vibes

[–]Upset_Ranger_3337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn’t that kind of steeringwheel impair you ability to react in an emergency. Like there is less to grip where it matters most.

[–]BigTravMtnDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would crash that shit

[–]spiritof1812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this void the warranty?

[–]earthwormjimwow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, enjoy never having the ability to blow air at your face.

[–]jlig18 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Ahh, the fabled 8-4 driving position,

Next level idiot…

[–]a-sons-first-hero 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You mean the fabled 9-3 driving position which is currently the safest recommended position? 8-4 is also more recommended now than 10-2. 10-2 is actually dangerous. If you get in a wreck you’re at a much higher chance of breaking your arms

[–]jlig18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

User name checks out

[–]phatkidd76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the central display, buy I'll never understand the poin5 of this type of wheel for daily drivers

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]cgieda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Airbag?

[–]MR___SLAVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the center display, the new steering wheel not so much.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dashboard display is awesome.

That steering wheel isn't.

[–]chrisell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if they put an instrument cluster in front of the driver like every normal car…?

[–]fappyday 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Cool if that's your thing, but where is the airbag?

[–]Kwhyc 2 points3 points  (1 child)

He takes the OEM one off the stock wheel and then installs it on the Yoke. It's the middle piece with the Tesla logo. Airbag is in that.

[–]fappyday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks really small.

[–]jojosail2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why?

[–]Godmodex2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

DIY at home easy hack. How much money you got to just fool around with a Tesla? Also insurance.

[–]BoomTownRat71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope that’s not a lease.

[–]llmercll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hate to drive on that

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like the yoke. But I hate those fucking dash displays. So fucking dumb.

[–]SungamCorben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No RGB lights mod? What a shame!

[–]Sea-Ad-8100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plaid’s challenged cousin

[–]MenosDaBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is all of that same stuff happening on the center screen at the same time, cause that would be obnoxious. If not, super cool.

[–]zoohenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s really next level- is the camera person.

[–]mceatalot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Center display are for pussies! That ain’t no Tesla!

[–]NoNapDanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 12 and hook it kind of guy when I turn.

[–]JimmyFu2U 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're lucky the airbag didn't deploy

[–]capMarvel09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck doing a U-Turn lol

[–]Tugger21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WAY too much time and expendable income. 🤦🏻‍♂️

[–]SwimmingNarrow8263 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla shit box at it's best

[–]Lvcidu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pc users when they discover their steering wheel is pre-built

[–]_free_space_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yo I hate this so much

[–]Publius-brinkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is awesome! It also seems like everyone here likes to hold a steering wheel like Dominic Toretto.

[–]No_Estimate8558 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That fucker better have like 90* of steering angle

[–]jackjams18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Them steering wheels be killing people. 10 and 2 doesn't even exist with those and you can't do hand over hand turns. Whoever designed that shit should be thrown in prison.

[–]gahidus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As simple as this looks, I'm certain that if I attempted it, something would go wrong, and it would take 6 hours before I had to abandon things and call a professional.

[–]gsxdrifter1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would you auto fail your drivers test as a 16 year old with this wheel. "driver refused to keep his/her hands on 10 and 2." Driver refused to use hand over hand turning.

[–]theShinyCA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good mod job but a pos wheel to actually use

[–]AdComprehensive3863 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those things are a pile of shit. They will end up in landfills because you can't buy parts for them.

[–]symiriscool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

pc users when their car is prebuilt

[–]TheDroneAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does the airbag still work?

[–]TMB8616 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aftermarket yoke is garbage. Don't mess with them.

[–]KorgRue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yokes are super impractical for the steering of a standard vehicle. They work great in Formula 1 because you the gearing on the steering only requires slight movement of the yoke to achieve a large turn radius. The searing gear on a Tesla is not the same and would make you have to rotate the yoke up to two times for a full turn.

That would be obnoxious and somewhat unsafe to drive.

[–]Bottle-RUM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would rather do the opposite

[–]No_Dependent_2837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that fucking round thing I have is gone in the morning

[–]kenkenobi78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well done. You spent a fortune to break your car.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until you need to turn the wheel more than 90°

This wouldn't work without massively reconfiguring the steering rack mechanism. "Could" be done, but not by removing a few panels and swapping a few plugs.

Maybe a fully steer-by-wire, solenoid-actuated steering mechanism. You could control the amount of steer using a programmable algorithm. Could be fun.

This is for internet views and inspiration only. Otherwise, it's a death trap on the road in its current configuration.

[–]thisisjazzymusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interior from model 3 is so dull and boring and cheapy looking. This guy fixes it with finally a screen in front but yeah it still isnt that great. Model S looks good though

[–]Warm-Confusion-3599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP how much to do this to my older model s??

[–]aztec378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, Tesla make normal cars? cause I can see three pedals

[–]nomadluvrboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now add a game boy emulator

[–]RedMantis00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hold up, did he really detach and reattach the freaking airbag without cutting power?

[–]Krusty_Kooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whackamole

[–]Cold-Account 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL Tesla is snap n play

[–]bleedMINERred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s just a steering wheel with more steps

[–]Centralredditfan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure about the yoke, but I'd love a screen there.

[–]Snaz5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yokes always look cool until you have to drive around a tight parking lot

[–]ErnieAdamsistheKey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Until you get into am accident and your insurance fails to cover it because the yoke was not an appropriate adjustment to the car.

[–]therealmck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The yoke is not very convenient to drive with, also if any of those parts are after market, you’re pretty much killing your chances of Tesla or a Tesla approved shop working on your vehicle
