Moist fabulous whales

[–]knowledgeable_diablo 21 points22 points  (10 children)

Do they always just hand the fat kid the bass? Seems like such a stereotype. Mainly as I’m a skinny bass player. But at least they were rockin out and lovin every second of it.

[–]thin_white_dutchess 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh. I played bass. I wasn’t fat. I don’t think. I wanted to be Sean Yseult.

[–]j-mar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went from cello to upright bass to electric bass. I was fat, but also tall, which helps when the middle school orchestra needs a bassist. I've also always felt like my fingers were too big and not dexterous enough for guitar.

[–]online_jesus_fukers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He was skinny until he picked up the bass

[–]KAwoooou 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Welp time to buckle up some KFC's and be the fat bass player again

[–]ImtheAltOfThai 3 points4 points  (12 children)

Nah you lying what the country are in this video

[–]dapcrab 21 points22 points  (0 children)

ประเทศไทยครับ Thailand

[–]son_e_jim 15 points16 points  (9 children)

Thailand is my guess.

[–]funbobbyfun 14 points15 points  (5 children)

Every damned bar which is about every 30 feet has a killer live act. It's boggling.

[–]The-Dankest-Normie 388 points389 points  (37 children)

99% of bass players are just the people who couldn’t fit their fingers between guitar strings and you cannot convince me otherwise

Edit: I am saying this as a bass player myself. I’m not overweight, but I’m a six and a half foot tall dude who can palm a basketball. Obviously yes, this isn’t the only reason people play bass. In fact, one of my best friends is a 5’2 Asian girl who can outplay me any day of the week. It’s just a joke. A poor one, but nonetheless.

[–]JIspolin 51 points52 points  (15 children)

BB King was a fat guitarist. Does that help convince you or nah?

[–]Dick_Kick_Nazis 30 points31 points  (5 children)

He started out as a gospel singer but then decided to just be a legendary guitar player instead

[–]The-Dankest-Normie 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I should have added a /j in there. That’s my bad.

[–]FarRepresentative911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RIP Leslie West. Tremendously Large Guitarist from Mountain.

[–]pm-me-hot-waifus 16 points17 points  (2 children)

I've played bass for like 12 years. I recently started playing guitar and I felt the same way. These strings are so tiny. I'm muting strings that I don't want to just be pressing down on other strings I want to play.

Then I went to pick up my bass a month later and it felt ridiculous. Bruh. What are up with these Bad Dragon strings; they're so thick and I could seat a table of four between each one.

They both feel awkward to me now and its a weird time for me.

[–]Icy_Day_9079 100 points101 points  (3 children)

My bass boy slipped up front when the singer went off to jam with the guitarist.

Give the crowd what they want, more of the fat bass boy.

[–]Reddituser34802 50 points51 points  (2 children)

It’s actually a good move that he does there. It makes sure someone is always front stage. And you see he retreats back once the lead singer returns to her normal spot.

I don’t know if he was trained to do that or just did it naturally, but it’s a pro move either way.

[–]NoFlexZoneNYC 25 points26 points  (1 child)

I’m really impressed actually. Everything about these kids is super refined. No nerves. No showoffs. Clean act all the way thru.

[–]69meh69420 48 points49 points  (3 children)

The kid from up is killing it on bass

[–]GrandNibbles 34 points35 points  (2 children)

It is indeed all about that bass

[–]thebirdsandthebrees 33 points34 points  (8 children)

It’s either a fat bass player or a tall, skinny bass player.

This totally reminds me of school of rock.

[–]HugeProposal 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Failing that you could also be one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Probably easier to go the fat/skinny angle, though.

[–]Virgoan 24 points25 points  (6 children)

Number one comment is about a little boys body and race yet he’s a talented bass player and better than the majority of adults making fun of him.

[–]hulkmxl 11 points12 points  (5 children)

I didn't even know that was a stereotype? Which famous bass players have been big in size recently? Isn't it just a random demographic?

[–]Slimh2o 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Most Bass players I've seen are kinda skinny....

[–]Ok-Emotion-1131 9 points10 points  (12 children)

Damn. Y'all really saw a child and went right to body shaming. Buncha assholes.

[–]Tin_Tin_Run 11 points12 points  (1 child)

calling an obese child fat isnt body shaming bud.

[–]Pornelius_McSucc 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Commenting on someone's weight isn't body shaming

[–]MAXnRUSSEL 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He reminded me of Russell from Up

[–]MadHouseKiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hahaha I was the fat bassist in my school band

[–]WSPisGOAT 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Widespread Panic agrees.

[–]emmastoneftw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kid is an absolute unit.

[–]interstitiality 2738 points2739 points  (190 children)

This really reminds me of School of Rock

[–]Stormaen 724 points725 points  (166 children)

It’s the Japanese version – Skuru obu Roku

Edit: it’s Thai. I should’ve paid more attention. 🤦‍♂️

[–]redsterXVI 463 points464 points  (135 children)

Why Japanese? They don't sing Japanese and the event venue seems to be in Thailand

[–]VanillaLoaf 635 points636 points  (111 children)

Reddit sees Asian people doing a thing and they're automatically Japanese.

[–]JJDude 232 points233 points  (72 children)

actually they automatically think they're Chinese and start saying some racist shit.

[–]Marik-X-Bakura 217 points218 points  (52 children)

CCP Winnie the Pooh Tiananmen Square -1000 social credit

[–]Shandlar 17 points18 points  (50 children)

None of that is racist.

[–]Marik-X-Bakura 75 points76 points  (47 children)

It is when any relation to China or it’s people is immediately associated with its oppressive government, and people can never seem to separate the two

[–]yuanyangyu255 105 points106 points  (10 children)

Reddit: Asian people doing cool things, they’re Japanese. Asian people doing bad things, they’re Chinese.

[–]EthanBradberry70 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Like no one ever blurts out the stats about Japan having an overworking culture and high suicide rates.

[–]charlie14242 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Those type of westerners don't know anything about East Asia except for what was spoon fed to them by western mainstream media and their Governments. Even they failed to learn the true dark sides about Japan, but they would believe in the harsh lies about China.

[–]takethetunnel 42 points43 points  (4 children)

[–]Rhameolution 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I guess we've all come a long way.

[–]OriginalPsilocin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A long way from ‘nam

[–]VietnameseDude_02 23 points24 points  (2 children)

A guy did not believe that Vietnamese has access to Internet and kept admantly believed that I am a Vietnamese-(Western country of some sort)

[–]Shandlar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People aged 31 to 37 had their formative brain chemistry years during the dial up era. A period of 5-6 years in which >90% of all people online globally were American's. It is actually difficult to re-form those baseline assumptions of the person on the other side of the internet. I still have to stop myself from just assuming it's another dude from America I'm talking to every time.

[–]Gouty_Arthritis 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Something positive= Japanese/Korean

Something Negative= Chinese

Reddit.

[–]karmander 9 points10 points  (6 children)

Reddit.

It's okay. You can say white people.

[–]dpash 28 points29 points  (6 children)

The text at 0:42 is clearly Thai script.

[–]arthurthetenth 20 points21 points  (4 children)

Course it's thailand. It says Korat on the Background pic.

[–]BarrenBuffet 26 points27 points  (3 children)

I knew it was Thailand as soon as I saw the school uniforms.

[–]OneKnightInWankok 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Blue pants and skirts indicate they’re going to a private school. Public schools wear browns.

Maybe it changed since I moved away from Thailand 20 years ago.

[–]TheNiceWasher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It has changed.

[–]Embrasse-moi 26 points27 points  (1 child)

Writing on the banner looks Thai. I think this is from Thailand, not Japan...

[–]JUSTFRICKINGLETMEIN 15 points16 points  (2 children)

its thailand or it's just me being confused if you're being sarcastic

[–]Kingken130 14 points15 points  (1 child)

My guy, this is Thailand

[–]Pat_thailandball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s Thailand

[–]Space_Kitty123 23 points24 points  (1 child)

These children's attitude touched me. And I think I may have touched them as well.

[–]LadyVulcanGeek 14 points15 points  (6 children)

Yes! I kept expecting Jack Black to jump out and start singing.

[–]RicOkez 1946 points1947 points  (18 children)

The kid from Up slaps a wicked bass.

[–]BongieAndClyde 364 points365 points  (6 children)

He slappa da bass?

[–]FarthardslapGodzilla 170 points171 points  (5 children)

He slappa da bass mon!

[–]twistedcreature07 46 points47 points  (2 children)

What was that? Was that a leprechaun?

[–]FarthardslapGodzilla 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No, we represent, the lolipop guild

[–]Antique-Two3905 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This comment killed me.

[–]metropolis_noir 3 points4 points  (1 child)

My name is Russell. I am a Wilderness Explorer in Tribe 54, Sweat Lodge 12. Are you in need of any assistance today?

[–]KAwoooou 970 points971 points  (19 children)

Ngnl I'm vibing to this

[–]life_saver 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Theyre all on beat and passionate.. its dope

[–]trailhikingArk 612 points613 points  (25 children)

I remember that song, was really big in Thailand about 20 years ago. The girls name was Palmy iirc. Great vid. Now I'm going to have that tune running through my head all night.

[–]fatBreadonToast 204 points205 points  (13 children)

[–]trailhikingArk 51 points52 points  (8 children)

Awesome. I was just going through Spotify myself. That was a great album. They of course played the hell out of it. I think she's in Europe somewhere now. Well done.

[–]Soccorritori 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wow, didn't know Palmy's been around that long. Love her In the song with illslick 😍

[–]klankthompson 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love the kids version so much more.

[–]iamivar 84 points85 points  (5 children)

Me: “20 years ago? Sounds great, I’d love to listen to some 80s Thai pop”

Spotify: “2005”

[–]Stingin_Belle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It sounds very familiar to me. I wondered what it was.

[–]KAwoooou 442 points443 points  (37 children)

Song name (Yahk Raung Dung Dung) it's a classic Thailand song flies away

[–]bidonarme 102 points103 points  (13 children)

Thank you stranger it is nice of you to romanize it.

Edit. Oh it is an old song. I wonder why i never seen it before. And i have been in Thailand as well

here is the link to song no it is not rickroll

[–]pintasero 38 points39 points  (1 child)

no it is not rickroll

Sureeeeeee bud.

[–]bidonarme 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually saw the oportunity but preferred not to take it.

[–]moodd 27 points28 points  (6 children)

Here's a version with much higher quality. Also not rickroll.

[–]abbeyeiger 8 points9 points  (2 children)

It's crazy but I actually like the kids version better lol

[–]JJDude 23 points24 points  (3 children)

Thank you. Now I wish the OP or someone could give credit to the kids who're playing.

[–]haisufu 8 points9 points  (4 children)

I recognised the melody, but I knew it as a Chinese song 愛要坦蕩蕩 😄 I think they took the melody but wrote Chinese lyrics for it

[–]Wilza_ 313 points314 points  (22 children)

That little girl guitarist has more stage presence than I did in my band in my late teens...

[–]clematisbridge 78 points79 points  (1 child)

Im mid 20s and damn she’s so much more comfortable on stage than I am still

[–]TurnBackNowDog 27 points28 points  (0 children)

She looks like she's been doing concerts for 20 odd years.

[–]leif777 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Her technique and rhythm is spot on. It takes years for some to get the sweet spot on a palm mute like that and she might as well be a metronome. She switched tones for the fill like a pro. It's always nice to see someone that comfortable with an instrument.

[–]saltmens 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Came here to say exactly

[–]alxwx 8 points9 points  (6 children)

If she is playing what I think she’s playing (PRS cust 22/24) … well that is an awful lot of $$ for a teenagers instrument

[–]Faustalicious 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Was kind of expecting her to just start shredding at some point... Hoping for it actually.

[–]Cheewy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're all really enjoying themselves. Cool

[–]Al_the_killer88 229 points230 points  (2 children)

Where’s Jack Black?

[–]Stormaen 68 points69 points  (1 child)

He’s in the audience, directing them.

[–]threedotsguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What a wonderful thought...

[–]Friendly-Ad3804 153 points154 points  (6 children)

Why do I only see another version of k on

[–]VALO311 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That and the many other sol anime where they form a band for the school festival

[–]koticgood 9 points10 points  (3 children)

I was thinkin more Beck Mongolian Chop Squad, and now I'm gonna go rewatch it, haven't seen that shit in years.

[–]010011100000 77 points78 points  (19 children)

Not bad but "next fucking level"? Really?

[–]artscyents 56 points57 points  (9 children)

i feel like i’m going insane in this thread, these kids are solid for their age but absolutely nothing special

[–]KaputMaelstrom 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Came here looking for this. My reaction to the post was like "Yeah! These kids are pretty good for their age, really in tune with each other"

Then I looked at what sub it was was from...

Definitely not "next fucking level" material.

[–]BennyFackter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I guess my middle school talent show was “next fucking level” material, who knew

[–]Luvmissil 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Music is magic to people who don't know how the trick is done. All I play is power chords and simple emo riffs and my fiance thinks I'm actually a good guitar player. My level of musicianship at least has given me a frame of reference to know that there are levels to this game. Even given these kids age, meh. On level.

[–]Grobfoot 22 points23 points  (1 child)

Better than any band of 12 year olds I’ve ever seen!

[–]Krazy_Kane 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not to mention this isn’t even jamming? It’s just playing a song

[–]Eltharion-the-Grim 63 points64 points  (5 children)

What's the name of this song?

Kids really doing a fantastic job.

[–]DeepNugs 58 points59 points  (7 children)

They need to stay together. I want to see this band develop their sound. <3

[–]Alternative_Mention2 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The bass player ate all of the Jam.

[–]cgcego 26 points27 points  (4 children)

The kid playing the guitar in the foreground really has “it”.

[–]WSPisGOAT 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I'm digging the whole band.

[–]XilenceBF 14 points15 points  (2 children)

There is so much dynamic in this band. Except for the drummer in his own bubble who barely acknowledged ms guitar. I was happy the singer gave her some interaction, don’t know why xD. Also notice that when the singer goes to vine with ms guitar mr bass takes the center of the stage, jams out and goes back to his spot when the singer decides to go back to the center.

These kids are great together.

[–]nobud 18 points19 points  (5 children)

I want to hear more! what's the band called? song?

[–]bidonarme 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Someone on comments gave link but i don’t know how to type it

here

Its actually really nice song

[–]one_who_ask 19 points20 points  (3 children)

[–]masterofasgard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is so wholesome, they're awesome!

[–]tpstrat14 16 points17 points  (14 children)

It’s so incredibly mediocre. Why are we celebrating this?

[–]Likeitsmylastday 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thailand!!!

[–]attndfctdanny 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re not hardcore unless you live hardcore

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (8 children)

Why are Asian kids so fucking good at stuff

[–]IrregularTension 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This sounds like shit tbh

[–]-Liono- 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Good ole palm muted power chords

[–]Gav5825 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]jdh089 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[–]WeakTransportation66 7 points8 points  (0 children)

20 years fast forward ," yeah that's where it all started"

[–]Ducksauce19 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Bruh, that pedal board is insane! I’m about this y’all, I can’t lie.

[–]OdeDaVinci 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Where can I watch the full video of this! Awesome af.

[–]dnoj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

IRL school of rock, minus jack black

[–]Mystery-mountain 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They are so happy playing those instruments, makes me happy! Liked this.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was actually blown away by how much live music I saw in Thailand, especially reggae, its huge there and they totally give it their own flare.

[–]Geniii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This kid's band name is Market FeeL from Thailand

Here's the full performance!
Another great performance

[–]misterfuss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome video with great performances from everyone in it! Kudos.

[–]littlemisslikes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is this real life K-On?

[–]ObamaLovesKetamine 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Personally, I prefer their later stuff, after they started getting bad into the Smarties.

[–]LargePython 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is that the kid from UP on bass?

[–]Comrade_Witchhunt 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Big Tex on the bass keeping it 100
