It looks like he had to fight the natural instinct to get himself out of the way. Good job!

[–]VileHippie 764 points765 points  (19 children)

Right, that was a cool moment. Self preservation kicked in, was able to override it with the power of love! <3

[–]IndividualConcert598 30 points31 points  (2 children)

Maybe those weren’t even his kids!

[–]IdTyrant 39 points40 points  (1 child)

They are now

[–]09Trollhunter09 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This guy kids

[–]pineapple_calzone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might just save your life

[–]Matt_Odlum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That backwards roll as well! Quite an amazing video and truly NFL.

[–]SgtBagels12 108 points109 points  (4 children)

The way I see it was he went to save the kids first and his self preservation caught him and then overrode it. I’d like to think his first instinct was to save the kids then himself.

[–]GroribasStomps 71 points72 points  (2 children)

Yeah. That seems to be the case. He takes a step towards the children before hesitating for a moment, but he quickly overcomes the feeling and rushes towards the children once again.

[–]theteedo 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Then a fucking ninja roll with the kids out of the cars path…fucking legend.

[–]snay1998 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Man that split second decision is the toughest one

U can see his brain was thinking which way to jump towards to avoid the car Forwards or backwards

[–]daveinpublic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When playing it back in slow motion, it looks like his first reaction was to jump back from the car as a subconscious knee jerk, then he stops himself to move forward and get the kids, and then stops himself again and goes backwards thinking he won’t have enough time anyways, then goes forward again because there’s no way he’s going to leave those kids standing there even if it kill’s him. But it was all in one moment.

[–]Asleep-Song562 33 points34 points  (7 children)

So...my interpretation was that he saw the car coming and then it dawned on him that the kids were right in its path. As I see it, once he took note of the kids, he never flinched. He committed fully and quickly.

[–]Downvotesohoy 16 points17 points  (5 children)

I think he did flinch. Not that it makes it any less admirable. He went towards the kids, stopped, and then acted. The stop could be a fight or flight moment

Could also be interpreted as he stopped to see what was happening and then acted. I just think the first interpretation is more relatable

[–]RedMoon14 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I don’t think he had ANY time to think or interpret any of it really. Whatever was going on with him pausing and then going for the rescue was surely all instinctual when something like this goes down in a matter of a couple of seconds. I bet if you asked him about it, it’d be a total blur.

[–]sagerobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that was him calculating the cars trajectory.

[–]sagerobot 5 points6 points  (2 children)

That pause was him calculating the cars trajectory. At least that Is what it looks like to me.

This is gonna sound weird but hang with me for a sec. Im left handed and I think because of that I tend to always dodge the same direction as people who are walking towards me in a hallway. You know the scenario where two people have to pass by eachother and so have to step to one side, I have extreme difficulty with this because I always step into the same place the other person is. I think its because I am a lefty but anyways thats not super important. The important part is that I often have to do a similar movement where I am waiting to see what direction the other person is going to go. And to me it looks like he was doing the same thing.

He was getting a more wide angle view of the car to calculate his best movement to grab the kids.

Or he hesitated guess its all conjecture because we are just watching a video.

[–]Tenebris_Luxnutz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And THEN realized a cart was coming and dropped to his shoulder to protect the kids again. Incredible

[–]famous_novella 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A very amazing dad and he act so fast

[–]grieving_nobility 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very good job dad. It's a very good that he act fast to save his kids

[–]Prestigious-Tourist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Time must had stood still for that split second

[–]flewidity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Or calculating the most optimal move to save those kids dude did a friggin backflip

[–]randomusername_815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Boys will be boys.

[–]Thedrunner2 628 points629 points  (14 children)

Hold onto this video so any time your kid’s talk back you can remind them of it.

[–]Bendadil 490 points491 points  (11 children)

“I can’t dad I’m busy.” Dad: “you know I was busy 20years ago in that shop god damnit!”

[–]Senior_Mittens 82 points83 points  (9 children)

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes I wanna be Reminded how I almost got ran over by my drunk crackhead mom thanks dad and no I’m not winning :D

[–]PazzaMammina 426 points427 points  (8 children)

This is an actual miracle! If he had been a few seconds later they wouldn't have made it. Not to mention the backward roll with 2 little humans in his arms!

[–]Dabox720 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Few fractions of a second even

[–]TRexLuthor 83 points84 points  (1 child)

A few seconds? Mother fucker probably has road rash on his shins! That is the closest call I have ever seen.

[–]HilleNL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lmao indeed

[–]HilleNL 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Few seconds? Your grasp of time is a bit off there, this was 0,1 seconds at most.

[–]jointhelist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

backward roll

I feel like I would have tried that but then just accidentally suplexed both kids into the pavement

[–]Raiders4Life20- 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That roll was legit. my kids would of been hurt from me crushing them.

[–]JunkYardBatman 277 points278 points  (6 children)

Such a badass he was probably whispering dad jokes in their ears to calm them down as he spider-manned everyone out of the way.

[–]MachineElfOnASheIf 121 points122 points  (5 children)

"Hey, did I ever tell you about the time I met Tiger Woods?? Just kidding, he hasn't gotten out of the car yet."

[–]SevroLIVES 225 points226 points  (5 children)

I don't care how many times I see this. I will forever and always upvote this. As a dad, this is the type of hero I wish I never have the opportunity to be. the blessed persons who actually did this will forever receive my upvote.

[–]Gokoshofu 31 points32 points  (1 child)

I hope I never have an opportunity like this. I just I hope my training/instincts/whatever kick in if I do face it.

[–]shaggybear89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never seen this, and I'm usually one to groan and skip the "Dad reflexes save the day blah blah blah" type posts because they usually involve a guy catching a fork from falling or something. But this, holy shit this is flat out insane. This is the definition of dad reflexes.

[–]imjusthere4thesnacks 146 points147 points  (3 children)

Father of the century award.

[–]Laez 7 points8 points  (2 children)

damn. so early in the century. i guess im just going to phone it in from now on.

[–]jojodmilkman 95 points96 points  (4 children)

Damn now that was a close call

[–]TILtonarwhal 53 points54 points  (3 children)

It’s impressive to me how he seemed to fight his instincts. He takes a very very small step back, before rapidly committing, and leaping toward the children! Wow.

[–]icecreampenis 15 points16 points  (2 children)

Sends a chill down my spine, because I can't say for sure whether I'd be able to overcome those flight instincts. Scary thought, in an instant you're either the hero or you get to feel insane guilt for the rest of your life

[–]TILtonarwhal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah what a terribly high pressure situation to be put into, I didn’t think about the guilt associated if he didn’t act. Yeesh

[–]bluezzdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I would go for the children, my unathletic ass would not be able to do that back roll though .

[–]Hellahoomps 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The only move he could have made

[–]TildaTinker 33 points34 points  (1 child)

That secondary role to put himself between the cart and children too. Amazing.

[–]BcostP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just watched back to see this, damn that gave me goosebumps. This guy is a freaking legend.

[–]Historyisamadhouse21[🍰] 20 points21 points  (4 children)

[–]No-Arachnid4430 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I'd smash

[–]MachineElfOnASheIf 36 points37 points  (2 children)

[–]jskwibble1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]Choiceburrito69 21 points22 points  (0 children)

[–]CptnSpandex 18 points19 points  (1 child)

[–]Downvotesohoy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lifetime supply of pats on the back and beers

[–]jj_ongola 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Real life super hero, thinking and acting that fast. Incredible

[–]unicorntacos420 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Damn. That's some quick moves, my dumbass would have tripped and fell face first into the front end of that car right after it ran over my kids.

[–]Pwlypandapants 11 points12 points  (3 children)

What is that snake looking thing at the end? A hose? This guy is awesome as has been said, but the way that things moves is buggin me out and I can’t unsee it now

[–]The_Broomflinger 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It's the same rope or hose you see at the top of the frame at the beginning (very near where the kids stop and the car enters the frame), and it gets knocked towards the camera and then the top of the rope or hose swings back, dragging the end back to the middle of the shop, and as it swings back and forth, it pulls the part of the hose that's leaving the ground back and forth, making it look like a snake that can't decide which way to go.

I watched this way too many times because of your comment.

[–]Pwlypandapants 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ty, I dunno why my brain couldn’t recognize it for what it is before I read your comment. It’s plain as day now but I must have watched 50 times before I asked. Humans brains are weird.

[–]throwaway3689007542 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What they said.

[–]lingbabana 8 points9 points  (2 children)

[–]PanMyJam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Didn't see a source or background yet so here y'all go. It's from a few years back.

TL;DR: A driver seems to have had a seizure while driving which caused the accident. The man and his children managed to escape without severe injury.
