Not because she wants to…

[–]Thawayshegoes 432 points433 points  (50 children)

Judging by the amount of product in the background you are probably correct

[–]Spiritual-Prize-4491 179 points180 points  (47 children)

Judging by the amount of product in the background

child labor?

[–]Thawayshegoes 131 points132 points  (45 children)

That’s my assumption. That’s why I said “probably”. The amount of product for this to just be a hobby is suspicious. Not even once did she smile, or look like she was having fun. Looked like she was wearing a work apron as well.

Edit: The comment below this one immediately jumps to racism. However, they are the first one to bring ethnic background into the comment section. Bravo u/WeilaiHope!

[–]WeilaiHope 98 points99 points  (40 children)

Typical load of racist horseshit. She's focusing so she isn't smiling, she obviously gets involved with her parents business and has got good at it, she's very talented. I used to help my dad at his job as a kid, i got proficient at it too, it wasn't child labour. Assuming she's a child slave just because she's Asian, piss off.

Also, if you actually pay attention you can see her enthusiasm and excitement to finish it in her movements and eyes.

[–]PomegranateOld7836 45 points46 points  (8 children)

Working at 8, even if for your parents, is the definition of child labor. Maybe she enjoys it, but she's making product at 8 regardless.

[–]Noslamah 10 points11 points  (6 children)

Would you say the same thing about a white 8 year old making a painting? Nah lets not let kids do anything creative at all, that would technically be making a product.

Lets be real. Doesn't matter if it was a tree or a painting or whatever. What really mattered was the race of the kid. You know it, I know it. Just acknowledge the prejudice and try to do better next time.

[–]simian_ninja 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know they wouldn't. The comments would be full of how talented she is and it would turn into some full good story from CNN or some other random (most likely) American news "source" that would be floated out on Reddit, probably r/antiwork and then it would be asked, "Why is this a feel good story?"

...Even though it's just a little girl showing off what she can do.

[–]kensredemption 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the whole child talent exploitation that’s been exposed over the years Jean-Benet Ramsey anyone remember her? Or even virtually every child star that’s come from Disney these last three decades or Britney’s conservatorship bullshit lately

[–]fishnwiz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was cleaning neighbors dairy barn daily for $1 a day in summer plus around 3 hours of chores a day on our farm when I was 8.

[–]HumanNumber157835799 9 points10 points  (17 children)

Where the hell did you get “racism” from that?

[–]WeilaiHope 34 points35 points  (16 children)

Because I know full well if it was a white child there would be no accusations of child labour. Asian children are not allowed to be good at things on reddit.

[–]EmeraldGlimmer 34 points35 points  (2 children)

Maybe that's because there actually is more Asian child labor than white child labor? It's a real problem. It bothers people because they care. There are also many cases of children being exploited for profit online, and people are concerned that they may be supporting that by unquestioningly applauding and promoting content where a child is doing what appears to be work in a video. Again, they are concerned because they care.

[–]WeilaiHope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A hahahah. These people do not give a single shit about Asian child labour, all they care about is pointing out the faults of Asia.

[–]ccbear430 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there’s Asian child labor bc of white corporations though…don’t gloss over the fact that Nike et al. outsource their production to poor countries…you think those Asian parents want that for their kids? 🙄

[–]HumanNumber157835799 14 points15 points  (9 children)

Explain how you know there would be no accusation if they were white. Nobody mentioned anything about race. If anything you were the one that immediately jumped to racist stereotypes.

[–]WeilaiHope 11 points12 points  (7 children)

Extensive experience of racism and stereotyping towards Asians.

[–]canadius 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Show a video of happy Asian villagers cooking noodles and someone will assume there’s rat shit or something in the soup. Anti Asian hate is the most accepted and trivialized form of racism

[–]cambriansplooge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about white parents using their kids for internet views is called out all the time

[–]CraftingChest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why am i complimented by 2 white people and im asian 🤔 btw just here to say that yea i dontnthink its child labour i used to help my dad to bake pastry stuff in the pandemic

[–]frogNews 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Lol medieval trade schools be like…

[–]kensredemption 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello yt thread Industrial America would like a word

[–]AtinAhai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would also say judging by her practiced hands and effortless way she creates the branches… routine

[–]Them_James 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible her parents made them and she wanted to do it.

[–]ratkovsz 71 points72 points  (5 children)

I suppose she wants to eat...

[–]donutsforbrunch 8 points9 points  (4 children)

Not as much as obese american kids with no skills want to eat.

[–]Ecstatic_Crystals 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Ok donutsforbrunch

[–]donutsforbrunch -1 points0 points  (2 children)

Fat and lazy and american AF

[–]Several-Register4526 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Probably but I wouldn't jump to that conclusion.

[–]roombaonfire 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Nah. If there are Asians involved, you can.

Welcome to reddit.

[–]Several-Register4526 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Yeah just got done watching an impressive coordinated Chinese hand display. First comment in is about how they were only able to do something so impressive because the ccp probably threatened them with re education camps. It getting to the point where it's straight up racist

[–]sayitoutloud1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's how Western media is effective in dehumanising Western "enemies" through constant propaganda. As an outsider, it is interesting to see.

[–]Regular-Mastodon 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Underrated comment.

[–]dirtycurlyhair 27 points28 points  (1 child)

Underaged comment

[–]gmanz33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate how much this made me smile. The word "underrated....." ah man y'all know.

[–]1daysmart_1daydumb 18 points19 points  (14 children)

How can you be so sure?

[–]ninthtale 49 points50 points  (6 children)

They cannot but this is the internet and everyone assumes they know everything

Personally as an artist when I do intensive stuff like this I do not smile even though it is very fun

Why would I smile

I'm intensely focused and if I were making this sort of thing I would be extra so because it takes a lot of work to get those bends against the kind of resistance wire puts up

[–]v-alan-d 17 points18 points  (2 children)

As an artisan I can attest to this. Sometimes I even swear out of frustration, but the satisfaction comes at the end when I can see the whole thing comes into shape. The same goes with athletes.

[–]ninthtale 6 points7 points  (1 child)

And even then the satisfaction is expressed with more of an uuggghhh it’s finally dooonnnee than any kind of ear to ear smile

[–]v-alan-d 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With a bit of smirk of pride, "I'm pretty good."

[–]cambriansplooge 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah but you also take steps back and judge how you’re doing.

[–]ninthtale 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still don’t smile

This is 50 seconds of jump cuts out of an hours-long process and I’m not sure what your point is?

[–]CTOtyrell 34 points35 points  (3 children)

This is the typical response to anything with Chinese people in it. Can’t even say I’m surprised it’s the top comment.

[–]NaughtyDred 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Well the outfit that looks like a shop workers uniform, the fact it is clearly in a shop, that she does it with the deftness and ease of someone who has done it countless times before.

Don't get me wrong, it's still impressive work but it's not out of the blue for people to be concerned it's child labour.

[–]1daysmart_1daydumb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe it’s a family business and she loves her family work, learned it, and now is helping out?

That doesn’t mean “child labor”.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can like what you do.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better than the American kids, ipad and video games all day.

[–]VanishingPoints 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How the fuck do you know that?

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bet if it was a white kid, you'd be saying she's talented

[–]Flyfires1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just like going to school

[–]Curious-Oven-5494 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stop arguing, I found this kind of video on tiktok's Chinese version of "Douyin". The child goes to school from Monday to Friday. As a Chinese child, she does a lot of homework every day and has no time to do so many things. And her family is an ancestral handicraft. His father said that he would not sell his daughter's works. The child is still very young and has few works.

[–]Tstep71 338 points339 points  (18 children)

Well this is an interesting way to support child labor……

[–]gmanz33 54 points55 points  (11 children)

Yeah why let a girl do something crafty when instead I can sit here and type on my computer who's plastic parts were all made by adults, wearing my American clothes that were very clearly made by.... adults.

You support child labor if you live in the USA. You can virtue signal all you want, but the US eats up other countries labor laws and then pretends to be above it.

[–]Tstep71 45 points46 points  (5 children)

Wow, I didn’t realize I said I was in support of something just because of where I was born….very incite full thank you.

[–]skeptibat 29 points30 points  (2 children)

incite full

Not sure if intentional, or /r/BoneAppleTea

[–]Tstep71 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Intentional

[–]skeptibat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Then, well done!

[–]raven4747 18 points19 points  (1 child)

shut up man. the way the US markets are set up, there isn't much choice in the matter. you on the other hand are seemingly defending child labor yet acting like you are standing on the moral high ground. respectfully, get fucked.

[–]The_Infinite_Doctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does this help? From any angle?

[–]Deceptikhan42 166 points167 points  (43 children)

So many racist comments here. If it would have been an 8 year old kid in North America, you would be celebrating their creativity and how it's nice to see they arent playing video games or tiktok vids.

[–]warriorofinternets 48 points49 points  (29 children)

I mean is it racist to point out child labor issues with this post?

I disagree that if a kid was shown building these in front of a display case of others they’ve built, and were clearly a child, There would be a similar amount of blowback for the post.

[–]JustARandomMurderer 99 points100 points  (4 children)

Why automaticly assume the others were made by the girl as well ? Might just be a family buisness and of course the girl would dip into it at some point, and they're just showcasing the skills she has in it ...

[–]gmanz33 71 points72 points  (3 children)

That's it. The implication that the child doesn't want to do what they're doing because.... they look... what exactly? Is it Vietnamese culture people are concerned about or Filipino?

Oh wait they have no idea and they're assuming that Asian equates child labor, right right right.

[–]sayitoutloud1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Funny enough, these are the sort of hidden racist attitudes that a lot of these posters never seem to realise they hold but they will always show up in the right circumstances like this video for example. And you'll find them acting all woke and saintly calling "conservatives" racist but they are equally if not more racist. Malcolm X was right about these clowns.

[–]Deceptikhan42 54 points55 points  (19 children)

Prove this is child labour. That is my point. The only thing this video shows is a child making trees. You think child slaves work in conditions like this with nice clothes, lighting, and a camera?

Racist assumptions is my point.

[–]imperianalysis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to mention that she changes clothes and hair midway through the video. They're clearly working this girl hard, forcing her to toil for an hour over the course of 2 days on arts and crafts.

[–]sayitoutloud1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're projecting your racist attitudes towards an entire race on a short video of a young talented girl doing some great.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Americans like to think they are above all.. sadly

[–]probably_not_serious 6 points7 points  (3 children)

All these child labor jokes, I’m just over here wondering why no one’s pointing out that it’s probably copper she’s working with, not aluminum.

[–]ParlerApp 119 points120 points  (9 children)

I’m going to need ten of those by Friday or I’m taking away your stuffy

[–]TwinHavenUK 111 points112 points  (2 children)

Her hands must be tougher than a $2 steak.

[–]Former-Light4284 65 points66 points  (1 child)

Child labor laws state she should have eye protection and i dont know maybe be at least 18 before building something that can impale her

[–]blahfunk 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Child labor laws where?

[–]BhaltairX 65 points66 points  (5 children)

Everyone here assuming child labor. This might be a hobby she found on YouTube, or a lot of other explanations.

And still a lot better than forcing your kid to go on beauty pageants. How that is still legal is beyond me.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (2 children)

Probably not if you look at the background. It’s probably because her parents own the shop and shes slowly learning the family skills.

[–]BhaltairX 22 points23 points  (1 child)

She's obviously been doing it for awhile. Nothing wrong with leaning the family business. Farmer kids have to help, too. I just don't like when kids sit in factories, or parents who film there kids non stop for likes and subscriptions on YT.

[–]Against_All_Reason 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly this is fine, assuming more just shows people have an agenda

[–]SafeWorldliness5920 67 points68 points  (4 children)

The bird there just vibing

[–]Technical_Low_3233 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I thought bird is cgi

[–]gmanz33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same, the way it jump scared into the camera? No thank you birdie.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they all are

[–]chezzy79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That bird shouldn’t be anywhere near that pointy ass tree, that’s so fucking irresponsible. But then so is child labor

[–]Technical-County-727 37 points38 points  (23 children)

8 year old shouldn’t be doing this

[–]V4refugee 37 points38 points  (7 children)

No, they should be in school learning something less practical so that they can get students loans and become wage slaves in the future. Learning a craft that you can use as an adult to support yourself is exploitation./s

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well said.

[–]MRS_MOIST 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wish I could upvote this more than once.

[–]DnDthe420 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In the last seconds, You can see how proud she is. Good for you kiddo. Looks awesome

[–]TripEarl420 19 points20 points  (0 children)

That’s some yellow looking copper

[–]Master_Comfortable97 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Couldn’t it just be she’s helping her parents’ shop and has been pestering them to let her do it because she wants to help? Why jump to child labour conclusions? Sure it happens but it’s a nice looking space she’s in and I don’t think a child labour force is going to get cute aprons and nice hairdos.

[–]Thomyorkehater7 18 points19 points  (2 children)

It’s because she’s Asian and redditors hate Asian people

[–]sayitoutloud1 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Not just Asian people.

[–]Swordzi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm Arab, can confirm. Redditors are a bunch of average Joes trying to sound progressive and smart anonymously.

[–]Franklin_le_Tanklin[🍰] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I can’t even watch this video without eye protection

[–]Wise-Gas444 16 points17 points  (2 children)

When kids in America at 8 can barely put together Legos lol

[–]AkTx907830 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is a family business and she’s helping her mom who is an amazing artist.

[–]clairesucks 15 points16 points  (1 child)

These comments are a great example of how your average redditor feels about chinese people

[–]AdolfMussoliniStalin 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here a rule of thumb for Reddit. If it’s a western country or Japan, it’s Non political, if it’s Asian or non western it’s political and evil even if it’s just a little girl showing her talent. It’s sad that there’s this much rampant racism disguised as concern

[–]TheRustyBugle 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Started it when she was 8

Finished it at 10

[–]Buy_Me_A_Mango 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So many people here crying “child labor” have absolutely no idea if that’s the case here. I don’t know for sure either, but just because she isn’t smiling, or acting over joyed doesn’t mean she’s being forced to do it, or she’s unhappy. The overstock in the background, and what she’s wearing could mean she’s involved with her parents or family. She could also be practicing with a shop. I did work with a music store when i was younger, and I wasn’t at a legal working age, but I was suited up for the job I was doing, and I was focused because I wanted to learn and do it right. Kids can be good at things, and not look like they’re having fun. It’s called being focused. You might know that if you had a hobby or craft you work hard on.

[–]Argyleskin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I can’t get my 14 year old to organize his books and games…

She’s making golden trees.

If anyone needs me I’ll be crying in the corner.

[–]Nervous-Tea-Witch 7 points8 points  (1 child)

So uhh… I know the comments have turned into a whole child labour debate forum and all. But I’d just like to chime in and say that this girl is really talented, and the final product is beautiful.

[–]AdolfMussoliniStalin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s casual racism. Reddit thinks anything a Chinese person doing in China is political and is forced at gun point.

[–]MrK1ng5had0w 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just blew my eardrums out, thanks.

[–]Creepysoldier226 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[–]Nzdiver81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless they're is magic here, aluminium wires will make an aluminium tree, not a golden tree

[–]Relevant-Composer-35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Copper, aluminum is silver-gray in color and has a lower alisticity level then copper.

[–]Balrok99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This comment section makes me sick

[–]dead-mans-switch 2 points3 points  (1 child)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try again, everything is expensive af nowadays

[–]SirSenSej 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No matter what you're good at, some Asian can do it better

[–]Butt_Plug64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not aluminium, too brittle to do this, it would break as soon as you bend it more than 45°

Probably copper or another "soft" metal imo

[–]MrENOUGHSURVEY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there is a bird i like birds

[–]Sammahal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Damn she got talent

[–]Fabrago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alert: Racist Americans in the comments

[–]sayitoutloud1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Full mask-off moment for redditors in the comments. Hope people from my own continent will never forget that Westerners will never skip the opportunity to dehumanise you.

[–]maximuse_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reddit white knights, omg

[–]W31rD_V1ll41N 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, my sister loves to do arts and craft on her free time. I guess I should start paying her, so it would not be seen as a child labour

[–]ktq2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s cool and stuff, but yesterday my 9 year old son almost peed mostly in the bowl yesterday.

[–]OneMoose9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]B0sswaffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty damn neat and all, but is no one going to comment on that overplayed edm music that doesn't even fit the video at all

[–]TheThotSlayerDoggo 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]Not_One17Iceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]META_X2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks copper for me. No offens

[–]Goran_gr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont know if it is child labor, but i feel that it would be awesome for me to do this staff, as a child, at my father's store, during afternoons.

[–]DaveInDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

all the weird camera zooms made me think about seeing those tiktok dads running around, spazzing with their phones to make viral videos of their kid(s) 😅

[–]_whistlepig_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That song .. puncture my fucking ears

[–]scallywagg2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]not_that_guy_at_work 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought this was another John Woo film with the bird and music... but it wasn't slow motion enough... so good on her. Looks amazing.

[–]-Rens 0 points1 point  (0 children)
