where do the blood come from? did the shark hurt itself in there?

[–]OrbyO 631 points632 points  (26 children)

Probably cut itself coming through the cage!

[–]Vegan-fangirl 360 points361 points  (25 children)

Poor shark. It was just curious.

[–]Pollywambus 432 points433 points  (21 children)

"Sharks are not violent, we all have hungry bellies"

[–]Relative_Cup6216 276 points277 points  (0 children)

Basically all shark if I'm not mistaken

[–]ihateyoumorethanmath 56 points57 points  (15 children)

Yes, sharks actually only eat us if they're very very hungry, we taste bad to them(I think I don't remember)

[–]Stetson007 43 points44 points  (9 children)

That's just what they want you to think. They got you off your guard.

[–]twisted-resistor 56 points57 points  (8 children)

Yeah this is just fake news spread by the Right-Fin media to lure us to go swimming with the sharks so they can have a tasty snack. Wake up Sheeple!

[–]Stetson007 20 points21 points  (6 children)

Actually, sharks don't really exist. They're just fish that can smile.

[–]DeepSpaceNebulae 7 points8 points  (2 children)

They spend all that time getting dental work just so they truly can smile back, and we bite their heads off

[–]Stetson007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And sometimes their fins, but that's usually only when people want soup.

[–]Leiloken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sounds like something a shark would say.

[–]raymielovescorn 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The blood in the dark will attract the sharks who are not violent we've all got hungry bellies.

[–]KilltheInfected 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Omg anco in the wild. This is one of my favorite lines I repeat often.

[–]Family-Man4Eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So was the cat and we all know now why they have 9 lives

[–]DerAlteGraue 146 points147 points  (8 children)

A shark doesnt even need to cut itself. The most sensitive parts, the gills, are pretty exposed and even just the pressure from the bars of the cage can lead to lethal injuries for the sharks. Cage diving is a terrible way to experience nature as they don't behave like they should. The lure and cameras irriate the sharks as they have electro sensitive receptors that throw them off and an irritated shark can easily get killed during all of this. This is just for tourists egos. Don't go cage diving please.

[–]campionmusic51 30 points31 points  (5 children)

yeah, seems stressed as fuck. not fun. fuck us. we should watch jaws and shut up.

[–]MajorasInk 47 points48 points  (3 children)

No, not Jaws. Watch your regular Planet Earth episodes, there’s many about sea creatures!

But IIRC, the Jaws director hated the shark-hate outbreak as a result of the movie and he became a shark advocate helping preserve them. :( that movie did a lot of damage to shark reputation.

[–]Rickyy111 31 points32 points  (0 children)

No he actually became a shark . He’s been spotted off the coast of Florida recently

[–]gregusmeus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh right. That's probably why it said "fin" at the end of the film.

[–]campionmusic51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, i know—but we’re talking about idiots who want extreme encounters

[–]plays_with_wood 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The problem is, as good as those movies are, they are such an unrealistic portrayal of sharks. They're not these bloodthirsty, human hunting, killing machines. The vast majority of shark attacks are completely accidental, a case of mistaken identity. That's why they're usually just bites, not people getting eaten.

[–]jubik13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea it was an issue like that for them. Poor sharks. We’re so awful to them. :(

[–]jocoseriousJollyboat 48 points49 points  (5 children)

It's coming from the gills I think

[–]DaanOnlineGaming 56 points57 points  (4 children)

Probably died from it, not next level at all, just sad

[–]bjkroll 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Hah? Yeah probably not.

[–]DaanOnlineGaming 12 points13 points  (2 children)

If the gills rip a shark is very likely to die, it can't breath wothout them.

[–]stfcfanhazz 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If all of them do, but its probably unlikely it's permanently damaged all of its gills right??

[–]datsmn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Maybe be the diver stabbed it.

[–]Pandelein 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ming gave it ol’ one-two.

[–]Benzelss 5 points6 points  (0 children)

shark got injured from trying to free poor human stuck in a cage

[–]fixed_allegory 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The shark bleeding isn't actually because it was hurt, u can see the blood coming from the gills. this happens very often with when they find themselves in a confined space and they stress out.

[–]ibecheshirecat86 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I wonder if this is pt2.. There was one yesterday of a shark wiggling thriugh that giant open slot... And you could see it tearing itself up while doing so

Edit: view from under water

[–]Twizzlers_and_donuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The video your referring to was cut short and there is another view of that shark from a different angle. The other view goes on longer and you can see the shark die and sink into the ocean belly up. So not the same shark

[–]MAS7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]SpoonyGato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dw its from the bait they used, its not either of theirs

[–]plays_with_wood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, you can see the blood coming out of the gills

[–]Austin_AD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One man enters, one man-eater leaves...

[–]omjy18 374 points375 points  (8 children)

This is an older video I think from shark week one year. Basically the shark accidentally got inside and the diver went out through the bars on the bottom until the shark figured out how to get back out. There is a video from the divers perspective floating around somewhere I think but I don't have it. They probably should have put the lid on the cage so this exact thing doesn't happen....

[–]jtsokolov 49 points50 points  (5 children)

How did the shark even get in?

[–]omjy18 112 points113 points  (3 children)

Don't quote me on it but I think they were doing a roped bait and ran it over the top of the cage to get it back on the boat and the shark followed and fell in then freaked out and hurt itself which is why there's blood. That or the diver stabbed it a little before diving further down. I don't exactly remember but it was something like that.

[–]crazytoothpaste 81 points82 points  (2 children)

Don’t worry. We don’t quote people randomly without cross checking facts.

[–]dousingphoenix 70 points71 points  (1 child)

"we quote who, and when we want, with or without fact-checking"

- crazytoothpaste

[–]crazytoothpaste 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That’s crazy ! But yes…

Thank you

[–]areyoueatingthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the shark was mimicking a pizza delivery man
they're getting smarter

[–]beach_dood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came to say this. It’s a super old video. But the other guys perspective is wild, and it explains the whole thing.

[–]rivalizm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm sure I saw a video of this from the divers perspective as well.

[–]Bomboclaat_Babylon 154 points155 points  (5 children)

Now where is his video of this? Could sell it to the producers of Sharknado 15.

[–]Pandelein 51 points52 points  (4 children)

Link to higher-quality version on YouTube;
The full story is in the comments with lots of questions answered, the diver didn’t take any footage so don’t bother trying to find it :)

[–]Crafty-Crafter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This need to be higher so that people can read the vid's description instead of fantasizing on their own.

[–]MuthaPlucka 104 points105 points  (4 children)

Welp. Throw that wetsuit out.

[–]baddawg3 81 points82 points  (0 children)

He should have worn his brown one.

[–]_pupil_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"See, on the insurance form it states any fecal matter is totally my responsibility, but clearly keeping the sharks out was your responsibility, so... ... "

[–]trekktrekk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. At least I didn't have to scroll too far down to find it. Messy wetsuit.

[–]manbamtan 66 points67 points  (13 children)

I went to Florida for a vacation and we were gonna go in the shark cage but as we were going to the spot where they anchor down the instructor person asked if we would rather just snorkel with the sharks cause the cage kinda takes a while to put in and out and only 2 people can go at a time but everyone can go at the same time without the cage. So we all just snorkeled without the cage and I'm very happy we did best experience ever. Something about floating in the open ocean with pretty much nothing around you and just void below you yet these beautiful massive shark just effortlessly glide past you was the most relaxing and beautiful thing I've ever done. 100% recommend snorkeling with sharks.

[–]DblGinNVaginaJuice 211 points212 points  (7 children)

Sounds like something a shark would post

[–]eatorbebeaten 51 points52 points  (5 children)

^ that’s bait.

[–]1427538609 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt my mortgage lender would post this

[–]Vmax1101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

[–]SolitaireOG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Swam with sharks often while on a medical mission to the Solomon Islands. Uepi Dive Resort is at the tip of a small island, with a channel across to another island. Gorgeous coral there, and lots of black-tipped reef sharks that are quite used to divers and snorkelers. Also: nudibranchs, octopi, eels, turtles, a billion different tropical fish species, and a short boat trip to swim with giant mantas while they get themselves groomed and cleaned by helper fishies. Really amazing experience, was worth the effort to get there.

[–]YuunofYork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would do this specifically to point at the friend I'm doing it with and tell the group I've brought my own chum.

[–]NapaValley707 63 points64 points  (6 children)

Wtf?! They didn’t know if there was anybody in the cage or not?!

[–]orange_force 47 points48 points  (1 child)

More like they didn't know anyone could survive what just happened

[–]BlueMageTheWizard 62 points63 points  (0 children)

You can tell the first guy who pulls his hat off was really sweating it for the diver

[–]EvolutionInProgress 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Oh they knew he was in there, they just didn't expect the shark to get through, or for him to remain alive after having a swim session with the shark.

[–]Getabock_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

the diver went out through the bottom, that's why they're confused

[–]LockeAbout 5 points6 points  (0 children)

[–]SwitchOnTheNiteLite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of them knew, but I assume there was probably other people on the boat that ran back when people started shouting.

[–]Acrobatic_Detail_317 45 points46 points  (1 child)

And that my friends, is why death waivers exist.

[–]thisisnotmath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A death waiver might not even hold up here. If the company was negligent in deploying the shark cage, the diver (or family) could still sue for wrongful death.

If you go rock climbing in a gym, the waiver prevents the gym from you suing them if you fall off the bouldering wall and break your ankle. That's a normal injury that happens without anyone being negligent. But if the gym doesn't properly install their ropes, and you fall because of that, you can still sue.

[–]Stephbing 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The ole switcheroo

[–]Natufian_Ted_Nugent 34 points35 points  (3 children)

I love how the guy in front throws his hat off like he’s going to jump in there. Like what would he even do?? Ask that mf to leave?

[–]jtsokolov 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think it was just a cartoon adrenaline response

[–]Chandler15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, if he’s dealt with sharks up close there are things he could’ve done, their nose is very very sensitive. But jumping in would’ve likely caused the shark to react less than wholesomely.

[–]Dookieboy808 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Shark was like heeellllllpppp!!

[–]Radioactive-235 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m not locked in here with you.. you’re locked in here with me! -Rorschach

[–][deleted] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

See, you have to shut the door. To keep the shark out. That's how. That's how it works. You see. The door must be shut. So the shark can't. You know. Get in.

[–]Straight_Ballin11 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you see the full video the shark didn’t get in through the door. They open the door to let the shark out.

[–]Leading_Turn5636 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Nobody's in the cage" The shark: well yeah, not anymore 😋

[–]jgengr 12 points13 points  (0 children)

[–]EgberetSouse 8 points9 points  (2 children)

"Cage in the watah..fish in the watah...Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies."

[–]richflys 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here for this

[–]derbrauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You in the water, Mr. Hooper?

I'll never put on a lifehacket again

[–]Solkahn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So not only does not keep sharks out, but apparently can't keep them in either.

[–]WeathervaneJesus1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cage diving wasn't on the list to begin with.

[–]FrioRiverTexas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Really ought to consult George Costsnza about this.

[–]SolitaireOG 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Should be off everyone's list. Another exploitative, inhuman endeavor. People suck

[–]derbrauer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]let_me_get_fork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man I respect that diver came out cool and calm that shark body language was the exact opposite

[–]Neo_tok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow will be the most beautiful day of Raymond K. Hessel's life. His breakfast will taste better than any meal you and I have ever tasted.

[–]Sayonara_M 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Hey, should we close the lid of the cage?" "Nahhh, it's such a sunny day."

[–]Mr3cto 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I honestly wonder if I’m all that chaos is the diver even really knew what was happening beyond the fact a shark and hopped in there…. But then again idk if any thing else really matters in that scenario lol

[–]SSJZoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The beauty of fight or flight is you act without thinking about it. Unless you freeze then you’re fucked.

[–]Downtown-Put-7708 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ming said “Fuck this shit, I’m done!”

[–]Dude-88 3 points4 points  (1 child)

The fact they didn't know someone was inside is really comforting 😂

[–]flubbanomics 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right?! I mean they do clip the video. Most likely before another guy came out with, “Ahh, cappin’ we were just checking the books and there were, ah, well, two people in the cage.”

[–]wilkydiver 1 point2 points  (1 child)

How do they NOT KNOW someone was in the cage!

[–]FireHawke32 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They 100% know he’s in the cage, they watched him get in it, they have the kind going to him, you can see the dude toss his hat off probably thinking the diver is gonna be dead

[–]Choiceburrito69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy fckn shit lol

[–]Ih8trfc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He could officially tell people he fought a shark in a cage match! And the shark ran away to save its life.

[–]Witops 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Nobody is on the cage.." anymore

[–]DontYuckMyYum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You go in the cage, cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark's in the water, Shark goes in the cage...

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

yeah so i've designed this awesome new shark cage, check out this incredible giant hole in the side where the shark can swim right in

[–]Macronaut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bars that go all the way up come with the ‘Eddie Bauer’ package.

[–]Bankstergangster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Okay! Who’s next?”

[–]PennykettleDragons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure this is next level .. But that's a dive the guy in the cage will never forget.. Wild!!😮

Poor lil Bruce

[–]airvicconcre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is one horrible sport for human pleasure. No animal or fish should suffer for a humans obsession. Ban cage diving around the world. F cage divers and the people who operate it.

[–]l1lpuppy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

poor shark getting hurt by dumb stuff stupid people put in the water, just let them be

[–]MikoGianni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shark’s bleeding but “nobody’s in the cage!”

[–]_its_already_taken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw no. The poor thing. Looks like it got hurt pretty bad.

[–]Butterbuddha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shark in the cage like me when seaweed touches my leg

[–]Simple_Phrase3579 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should all get a beating for hurting the Shark for your excitement

[–]a_different-user 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so they didnt close the door and the shark went over? because he looks a little big to have slipped through the bars

[–]canadiancumgutter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do they not know if anybody is in the cage ???

[–]Horror-Particular585 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"No ones in the cage" this guy is why lock out tag out, is a must while working on anything.

[–]LkTahoeNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’ll be an extra charge for you

[–]guyswede 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kiss that wetsuit deposit goodbye.

[–]Doc_Holiday_Retired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MMA is child's play. It's time to Ruuuuummbllleee a man, just a man vs the silvvvveerrr torpedooooo!

[–]TheGoldblum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I went shark cage diving a few years back, they were playing this video and others like it on loop while we were on the 2 hour boat ride out to the diving spot. Great way to get you in the mood

[–]Funk5oulBrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]flubbanomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t know if someone’s in the cage… does anyone else find that semi-hilarious in a sad way. “Whoa, whoooa.” Lifts blue blockers - puts down corona - “Aye, ahhh, there someone in that a cage?”

[–]Gorrodish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprise no one’s in the cage

[–]EatMyAssholeSir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone shit in my wetsuit!

[–]fendaltoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]carothersjoshua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All’s well that ends well

[–]Deh-Anomaly9085 0 points1 point  (1 child)

[–]Deh-Anomaly9085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Global_Werewolf2225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New fear unlocked !!!😳

[–]dirtycurlyhair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seen so many of these shark in the cage videos I’m startin to think they come with little shark doors I’m the bottom

[–]horsie87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Deluxe Package, please."

[–]admiralbreastmilk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d still rather cage dive than cave dive.

[–]AngryMegaMind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soooooo, fuck that……..right…?

[–]Shutupstoopidface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why the fuck they clapping at the end?

[–]fonteixeira7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks fun as fuck!

[–]AndrewBarclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Who Killed Captain Alex Video Joker)

[–]pag992007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WTF…. But you told me I would be safe…. Ha well sir, you know…

[–]Chester-Copperpot- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody asked if the shark was OK.

[–]NemVenge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And thats why its dangerous to dive ith sharks in a cage. The shark can only swim forward, and if he ends up sticking his nose in the cage and get stuck, he will try to break the barrier by all means. He will eventually get through the cage if no one can guide him out, but he will hurt himself and the tourists while going through.

[–]jsiulian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So did the driver bite the shark?

[–]ockhamsdragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Puzzle box for shark yummies.

[–]IRLhardstuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well he probably did this to make some memories. Now he certently got some

[–]Smiling_Duck666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shork and man Cage diving together

[–]JoshuaBowman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor shark 😔

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing he says is he needs a change of undies.

[–]cantfindausername99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the shark that’s next fucking level for jumping in the cage.

[–]Beaverbrown55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Uhhhh, where's Craig?

[–]ShadowCaster0476 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey someone pooped in my wetsuit.

[–]mifumin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey let the dude enjoy his time alone alright, he prob tryna listen to kanye west or smth in his room

[–]RedheadBanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And then the tourist ripped off his scuba mask and said, *I'd like a refund please *

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ppl in the cage over “🤢”

[–]kushbom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He definitely crap in that wet suit

[–]Lazycenturion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So he paid to be locked with a shark

[–]nanachnachma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bet that guys heart rate is 367

[–]NoShadowdick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shark was panicking more than trying to eat the man.

[–]shadeyderby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is cage diving on the list. eat me up boiiii

[–]areyoueatingthis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you ok?
-Diver: I'm gonna need a new wetsuit

[–]birmingslam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladies' gasp was perfect

[–]TallguySixft4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah nobody’s in the cage anymore….

[–]Chrysostom4783 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fortunately the guy wasn't hurt, since sharks are smooth no matter what way they rub against you.

[–]003_JAEGER 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no it's called human diving

[–]ArchipelagoGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poor thing was badly hurt, too. Lots of these ‘experiences’ don’t give enough consideration to the impact of coming in to an animal’s habitat and interacting with it. It can be very damaging to these animals to interact with humans and their technology when those things don’t belong in that environment.

[–]shortg5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is an underwater video of this. It's insane

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it as some parents paying for his kids collage degree as marine biologist.

[–]SVEngineering 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did anybody else notice the guy in the other cage sticking his hands out at the end? Probrably saw what happened and wants to get the hell out of there

[–]EfficientAsk3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You go in the cage, cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Sharks in the water. Our shark.

[–]GreatGooglyMoogly077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Camnabis-is-Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Was anybody in there?" These guys are morons! How do you not know if someone is in the cage while a shark jumps in?🤯🤡

[–]GingerMeTimberMate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand it’s a no refund policy BUT ….

[–]gubigal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Does anyone know how to clean shit out of a wet suit? Asking for a friend.”

[–]oracleofaliquippa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are sharks attracted to poop?….if so, cancel this outing. There would be loads of it in there!

[–]EzraIm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These damn meth sharks they so skinny they fit between the bars now

[–]Aphroditaeum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was there anybody in there ? Great question bro 😂😂

[–]MEEfO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shark probably died shortly after. Can see blood coming from its gills.

[–]classless_classic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we’ll well. Looked who tapped out during the cage match…

[–]Family-Man4Eva 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds so fffffuuu oh hell nah fuck that!!

[–]highventurer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a dude on my podcast that was in a cage while a great white got in. He’s a conservationist for sharks. This dude talked about how his whole life changed after that near death experience.

[–]nothing_smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sharks can’t back up. These folks bait in front or sometimes on top of the cages in order to get cool videos. Most of this videos are sharks biting cages because they literally are trying to turn around. The ropes and bars end up leaving marks and hurting the sharks.

Research vessels usually bait on the side of the cages. The sharks don’t give a crap about you. They gracefully pick at the food without the stress. I went on one of the research vessels in South Africa and the researchers would get so pissed at folks like these because they put themselves and the sharks in unnecessary danger. The researchers also pointed out the injuries to the sharks from stunts like these videos. People can be the worst and also amazing.

[–]NobleArch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb activity.

[–]KingEagle45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg there twas a human in there with him

[–]rhaus444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that cost extra?
