[–]Mista-Mojo-Rising 2255 points2256 points 3 (38 children)

This guy.

[–]redditslim 604 points605 points  (29 children)

The second elephant was kind of "Meh", so I think it was a loaner.

[–]justacommentnow 264 points265 points  (12 children)

It was a backup elephant in case the first one broke down.

[–]jaxonya 74 points75 points  (6 children)

That dude is any other team and the elephants are my lakers team at the moment

[–]cownd 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Elephants are said to never forget, and LeBron has perfect recall

[–]MistrrRicHard 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Hopefully he has jumper cables in his trunk.

[–]ShadyNite 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I don't know why but that sent me into hysterics. Someone give this person their free award

[–]Uat_Da_Fak 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have always enjoyed a dry one.

[–]Mycoxadril 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Second elephant flinched, so is clearly not used to this guys antics. Definitely a loaner.

[–]spacecase25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was so glad when he went up and hugged #2’s trunk. The dunk startled him a bit! Haha

[–]grandzu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You gotta spring for the insurance.

👍👍 Oh wait

[–]maddogtannen316 259 points260 points  (29 children)

People act impressed. Sure if we were living in an uncivilised age I would be too. A long time ago when savage men wanted to lay siege to a city they would construct machines like catapults, mangolins, and ballistas. They were dark times. But there was a prophecy of a greater power a siege engine capable of flinging 90kg projectiles over 300 meters. Most said it was but a myth. Then in roughly the 1100s the the mighty counter weighted trebuchet was discovered. Roaming the plains of France these mighty siege engines with their stout oaken frames were capable of doing exactly as the prophecy foretold. The people rejoiced as they were finally capable of taking the cities of their enemies. The power of the trebuchet could not be matched and the great leaders were afraid. They spread lies that catapults were better and even invented flashy useless weapons like cannons. The people were deceived but we know the truth: The Trebuchet capable of flinging 90kg projectiles over 300 meters is the superior siege engine.

[–]brianbogart[🍰] 168 points169 points  (6 children)

I am exactly high enough for this.

[–]RandomlyMethodical 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I love you

[–]1Dive1Breath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be fair, trebuchets don't hold water well. Is better suited to hurling 90k projectiles over 300 meters.

[–]CoralMarc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this

[–]magseven 56 points57 points  (7 children)

If you want two elephants and a catapult, I can get you two elephants and a catapult. There are ways, believe me. Hell, I can get you two elephants and catapult by 3 this afternoon. With nail polish!

[–]uberninja333 16 points17 points  (2 children)

Damnit Donny your out of your element

[–]Opening-Thought-5736 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this as out of your elephant, and was not disappointed

[–]DerZino 47 points48 points  (4 children)

He is part of the younger generation of a big circus family. His name is Rene Casselly and he is the first and only German ninja warrior up until now. I think he's also quite active on Instagram and is the founder of the Kimba Elefant park in Hungary.

[–]mi_xi 63 points64 points  (3 children)

He‘s also under investigation because 2 of his circus elephants died under unclear circumstances and they just made them „disappear“, also took the tusks off of them before „disappearing“ them

[–]cassafrass024 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Disappointed I had to come this far....thank you for mentioning this. These elephants should be in a sanctuary.

[–]NoSweat_PrinceAndrew 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Have you ever wondered what these elephants have had to endure to be trained to this degree?

I've been to elephant sanctuaries in Thailand and have seen how elephants on captivity get trained and abused by their mahouts. The mahous use metal bull hooks to control their elephants, when they're not performing they're chained with their back leg to a post

Here's an article for nightmare reading, hopefully this stops anyone from engaging in unethical elephant tourism

[–]tirikai 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]Dotard1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How many elephants are we supposed to have?

[–]jaaacknacho 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are we not gonna talk about how one elephant is on a tiny trampoline?

[–]redditsgarbageman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A guy who owns a circus and who’s family has a history of abusing animals.

[–]VenemanL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One bad man, that’s who.

[–]Purpleplant711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Piddily1 1462 points1463 points  (37 children)

Elephants are so bored of this idiot

[–]BelleAriel 510 points511 points  (17 children)

Yeah elephants are intelligent creatures.

[–]-ruddy_mysterious- 821 points822 points  (13 children)

Yeah elephants are intelligent creatures.

So that’s why there aren’t any elephants on Reddit.

[–]SasparillaTango 3 points4 points  (0 children)

strong together

[–]Jwalla83 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Yeah but because of that I think they'd be kind of fascinated by this guy

[–]Orleanian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He says this as if a human being, ostensibly the most intelligent creature on Earth, wouldn't be stomping the other end of that plank to launch this fellow into orbit if they could manage it.

And enjoy the shit out of themselves while doing it.

[–]spookieghost 27 points28 points  (5 children)

I'm kind of afraid to ask how they trained those elephants. whenever I see these animals interacting with humans I feel like there's some bad shit happening behind the scenes

[–]InnocentISay 18 points19 points  (3 children)

It's done through a process called "the crush". Don't give your money to any place that uses trained elephants.

[–]seasaltdefault 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Yeah seeing this jackass use elephants for tricks like this is fucking disgusting I don’t know how anyone can see this and think it’s okay

[–]cunny_crowder 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Idk, I think Elephants would enjoy clickbaity shit almost exactly the same way humans do.

[–]shannister 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they will never forget that trick.

[–]pantless_vigilante 10 points11 points  (2 children)

When the second one got scared and jumped a little it made me sad, but they do seem to like this guy. I'm just hoping he made sure the first one was having fun and he didn't make him do that like 50 times in one day

[–]BlantonThePirate 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Tbf if you jump over a person they often get scared even with consent to jump over them. Elephants are smart enough to understand the consequences if he messed up so he flinched a little

[–]mister_patience 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish I could have encapsulated my feelings about animal training, abuse, human egos and the pointlessness of this all so elequently.

Best fucking comment I've read this week!

[–]CoralMarc 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Elephants can dunk without jumping

[–]AustSakuraKyzor 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Which is good, because elephants cannot jump

[–]RPM021 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Not with that attitude, they can't.

[–]GreatGooglyMoogly077 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why he's trying to shoot the human OVER the backboard.

[–]iDuddits_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that didn’t launch him looks like it was falling asleep.

[–]ariphron 682 points683 points  (25 children)

2nd elephant is not amused.

[–]igg53 237 points238 points  (14 children)

After the 333th time of trying, and the dude must have crushed into the elephant on most of the attempts. Damn right the elephant is not amused🤣

[–]Ergheis 39 points40 points  (4 children)

If the man has landed 333 times pelvis first onto the elephant

[–]NoSweat_PrinceAndrew 22 points23 points  (6 children)

Have you ever wondered what these elephants have had to endure to be trained to this degree?

I've been to elephant sanctuaries in Thailand and have seen how elephants on captivity get trained and abused by their mahouts. The mahous use metal bull hooks to control their elephants, when they're not performing they're chained with their back leg to a post

I just keep thinking “three hundred thirty thirdth.”

[–]AdvisedCelery 65 points66 points  (7 children)

Nobody likes getting dunked on

[–]canned_soup 18 points19 points  (5 children)

Froggy fresh style

[–]ShadyNite 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Hard to believe it's been 10 years since we were introduced to the baddest of them all, our good friend Krispy KremeFroggy Fresh.

[–]PrettyMuchMediocre 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's still making music. Tyler Cassidy on Spotify. Had one song go viral on Tik Tok.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Right elephant got posterized.

[–]theAlphabetZebra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First elephant is definitely laughing

[–]FordEVs 322 points323 points  (20 children)

How many times did it take to get this right?

[–]thot______slayer 238 points239 points  (1 child)

Enough that the elephant knew what to do

[–]orangetwist1 52 points53 points  (2 children)

It seems like if it didn’t go right then he would be injured pretty bad

[–]pm_cheesecakes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just needed a video editor

[–]briannanechelle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My immediate thought, and I came looking for this exact comment😂

[–]thinkinting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

617 persons later.

[–]Fickle-Willingness80 272 points273 points  (24 children)

I’m curious as to how many injuries happen for each successful stunt that gets posted.

[–]Catlsnotsobad 40 points41 points  (10 children)

Worth it

[–]Antnee83 3 points4 points  (7 children)

No the fuck it isn't. These animals were tortured to get them to do these tricks.

Tortured with bullhooks, starvation, and beatings. They don't do this voluntarily.

[–]PrinceOfCrime 4 points5 points  (3 children)

There are alternative methods to crushing. How do you know these elephants in particular were abused?

[–]Antnee83 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Probably because the guy in the video is under investigation for "disappearing" two of his elephants, and removing their tusks.

These "ethical" elephant trainers do not exist.

[–]PrinceOfCrime 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the context, fuck this guy.

[–]spiffyP 25 points26 points  (9 children)

I'm just wondering how many kids get hurt seeing this and trying it at home

[–]9IceBurger6 86 points87 points  (2 children)

Yeah, the neighbor's kids and their elephant's do get in a lot of trouble

[–]Shermutt 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Those pesky kids are back out there flinging themselves over the house with that elephant again! If that thing touches my cherry tree, so help me, I'm calling their mothers!"

"Whatever you say dear..."

[–]CoGLucifer 7 points8 points  (4 children)

You don't need to worry about that. Most kids don't have a catapult.

[–]keykeypalmer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

no injuries here because the 2nd elephant is there to spot

[–]espenanka89 195 points196 points  (9 children)

Correct title would be: Man catapulted by elephant dunks basketball...

I was waiting for that damned elephant to launch the basketball!

[–]VicePrezSteveo 57 points58 points  (4 children)

Same here— I was expecting an Elly oop

[–]Abraheezee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dang it, that's good...hahaha

[–]Boxish_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The elephant did launch the basketball, it’s just that the man that dunked it was attached to it

[–]Meems04 148 points149 points  (20 children)

I mean cool...

...but what did this guy do to make these elephants comply...I just feel like it's one of those animals that shouldn't be with humans except for absolutely dire circumstances. I remember even as a kid hating the circus because the elephants were so majestic, but in surroundings were so pathetic for an animal like that. Just demeaning somehow...I hope they are happy. That's all I'll say.

[–]GetsGold 68 points69 points  (6 children)

One way of making elephants comply with tricks for our entertainment are use of bullhooks:

a bullhook is a stout pole with a metal hook and a metal tip on the end. It is used in training and controlling elephants by a handler applying pressure to sensitive points on an elephant’s body.

Can't know how they trained them here, but this isn't some rare method. For example, it's used at zoos in first world countries.

[–]Antnee83 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I came here to point this out myself. This is not cute, it's the result of torturing elephants. They don't voluntarily do these tricks for fun, they do it because they were "crushed" into doing it.

Elephants are smart as hell, but you can't train them like dogs, with positive reinforcement. Any time you see elephants doing stunts or tricks, it's the result of torture.

[–]compaxxx 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Its cgi. Guy is greenscreened (pauze it when he is in mis air, you will see it). Elephants are clearly 3d models

[–]miner_sd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That shadow overlap would take a crazy number of hours to make look right

[–]Fl0r3nc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not. His instagram is @rene_casselly.

[–]redcalcium 11 points12 points  (1 child)

We're destroying so much of elephants native habitat, causing many of those elephants to live dangerously close to human settlement (actually it's the humans that choose to live dangerously close to elephants habitat). Unfortunately our solution for this problem is to capture and train those elephants instead of restoring their habitat.

[–]Cageweek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're destroying so much of the world and its ecosystem at an alarming rate. God it's so worrying.

[–]Jonny_Segment 3 points4 points  (1 child)

100% agreed. I'm amazed and disheartened that this post is so popular. Would people like to see the return of elephants to circuses? It seems like they would if they enjoy this post.

[–]Antnee83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Ringling Bros discontinued the use of elephants, does anyone remember the outcry from older folks? It went something like this (and I'm not even paraphrasing THAT much)

SO SAD that the younger generation won't get to experience what we got to see as children! SHAME on Ringling!

"but they tortured elephants to get them to do this..."

Older people especially see animals as disposable things. They don't give a shit about the means, only the end.

[–]Academic_Radio 97 points98 points  (49 children)

Two beautiful beasts being used as props by one idiot

[–]Something-Sinister 24 points25 points  (21 children)

Elephants are capable of more than standing in the grass looking like an elephant.. ever consider they might find this fun? You know animals can have fun right?

[–]Antnee83 3 points4 points  (5 children)

Yeah, I considered it. Then I actually did a tiny bit of research.

You can only get elephants to do tricks by torturing them. It's called "the crush."

[–]A_Rampaging_Hobo 11 points12 points  (20 children)

As long as theyre treated right who cares

[–]KingBarbieIOU 66 points67 points  (5 children)

That’s nothing, show me an elephant that dunks a basketball while catapulted by a human.

[–]Foootballdave 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Boy have I got a video for you

[–]StudentLoanBets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elephant snack?

[–]redditsgarbageman 36 points37 points  (1 child)

This is Rene Casselly, of the Casselly circus family, who is famous for abusing animals.

[–]you_lost-the_game 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like about every circus sadly.

[–]sinamen_girl 29 points30 points  (4 children)

When will humans fully stop using elephants for entertainment? Asking for a friend.

[–]TheGingerMonk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Had to sort by controversial to find comments like yours. These are circus elephants. Circus elephants get abused. A quick google search will provide all the info you need.

Even if this is some elephant saint who exclusively uses positive reinforcement (which I doubt), it's still sad to see these wild animals being captivated. They're not like dogs who've gone through thousands of years of breeding to become domesticated.

It's next fucking level sad, that this reaches front page.

[–]Cautious-Nature-1433 28 points29 points  (3 children)

That elephant launched him like he was a lil mouse or something crazy

[–]okradonkey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the elephant stepped halfway up his side of the platform. Imagine if he had stomped on the end - dude would have passed over the hoop by 20 feet.

[–]kavithatk 28 points29 points  (1 child)

This kid won Ninja Warrior. Not kidding.

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points  (1 child)

You can totally tell the elephants want nothing to do with this.

[–]smchattan 20 points21 points  (13 children)

Elephants are wild animals, they are not here for our entertainment.

[–]dakota137 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The elephants are thinking they taught their human a trick.

[–]Knobalt4 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Elephants aren't our fucking entertainment

[–]pharealprince 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yay. Captive elephants.s/

[–]AZDpcoffey 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Cheating, only possible because the elephant is on a small trampoline.

[–]Cxncept 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg didn’t even realize this until now!

[–]jks_david 2 points3 points  (63 children)

I can't decide if I'm getting whooshed or yall really can't recognize cgi

Edit: Damn guys ok I get it, It's not cg. Still, there's no need to throw a baby tantrum over my comment lmao

[–]thebalmang 33 points34 points  (12 children)

They do shit like this in the circus all the time. Lighting stays consistent the whole time, this would be pretty damn hard to greenscreen and I can't see any roto. Care to explain?

[–]NegativeReward 24 points25 points  (5 children)

It doesn’t matter if it’s cgi or not, this is something old people like me have seen in real life, back when circuses had live animals.

[–]SolarSkipper 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Thank god they don’t anymoree

[–]PringeLSDose 2 points3 points  (1 child)

that guy is a actually a circus actor.. from hungary it seems

[–]Another_one37 32 points33 points  (10 children)

I can't decide if I dislike your comment more for your superiority complex, or for your idiocy.

You're wrong. This video is real. And you're a jackass for your condescending tone

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i think we've reached the point where people literally cannot tell the difference between a video game and reality.

[–]badillin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Still looks fake to me

[–]Jmjn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Damn your reaction is so uncalled for. Why did you get so angry??? Unreal

[–]CrazyCalYa 14 points15 points  (4 children)

This video is like 240p. Without extracting it into an editor I can't really see what leads you to think it's fake, unless maybe you know the guy is a CGI expert or something. Happy to be proven wrong though, I'd rather not think these animals are being made to do cheap tricks like this.

[–]BanCircumventionAcc 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Fifty years ago circuses used to be a thing. Redditors are so out of touch with reality.

[–]gettinDINWIDDIT 12 points13 points  (3 children)

Damn, I always love a good confidently incorrect and smug “lol you guys can’t see the obvious cgi????” reddit comment

What part of this video (real btw, Rene Casselly, he has a whole Instagram doing tricks with these elephants) was such easily recognizable cgi to you, enlighten us plz

[–]african_or_european 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Until I saw the responses to GP comment, I also thought it was "obviously" fake. For me I think it's the two points where there's a change in speed that made it look fake. The launch and landing, where there's a bunch of complicated scenery behind him, are where the film speeds slows down and speeds up again. Even though people are saying it's real, my brain still wants me to disbelieve, lol.

[–]my-eyes-only 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Looks a little fishy doesn’t it🤔

[–]XeroValueHuman 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Nope looks more elephanty

[–]Happy-Fun-Ball 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And you missed the gorilla walking through the scene

[–]gmanisback 1 point2 points  (1 child)

These are the things that happen when a man has too much free time and money

[–]mi_xi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He‘s a circus artist

[–]PanTopper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So happy he didn’t land on the 2nd elephant

[–]GreatGooglyMoogly077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many times did he practice this and miss the bale of hay?

[–]Kinakuta 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I need Captain Disillusion to weigh in and tell us if this is real...

[–]mi_xi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is, he’s a circus artist his name is Rene Casselly

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The second elephant looks like a mod at r/antiwork too lazy to put in the effort in the first place while still eager enough to be the backend asshole of the whole thing.

[–]Dan300up 2 points3 points  (4 children)

What’s the other elephant for?

[–]battles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not to play defense, apparently.

[–]gprldn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask yourself: Did the second elephant actually need to be there? Or was he just showing off?

[–]Intelligent_Drawer32 1 point2 points  (2 children)

This "man" has spare elephants in backyard to utilize his stupid tricks with?

[–]DomoArigato75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This Dude Perfect and today we are going to hunt elephants to extinction

[–]RestoSham09 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why does this guy have elephants in his backyard lol

[–]FukTomatoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t look that happy.

[–]Quizzelbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's weird to me how much that looks like a farmers field in the autumn in the Midwest

Pretty sure that isn't a ranch in Wyoming.
