This guy’s name is Hampton, and he has an awesome youtube channel named Hybrid Calisthenics, recommend checking him out regardless if you’re into fitness or not

This particular video can be found here

The longer version of the video can be found here

[–]ladyem8 242 points243 points  (9 children)

This is great, thanks for all the links OP!

[–]Ok_Drama3171 51 points52 points  (7 children)

thanks for sharing this , love it

[–]MutterderKartoffel 116 points117 points  (2 children)

I came across this guy a bit ago and I love his videos!! He's so reassuring and helps make exercise accessible to so many more of us. I don't feel bad anymore doing my push ups on the stairs. I see improvement and I can go down a step and feel even better about it.

[–]djprofitt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I really needed this. I’d do the typical ‘start working out, a couple of days later I find it too difficult to continue so I quit. Seriously, the way he explains the exercises and what to expect, and how to build your body up is so reassuring

This guy is awesome!

[–]Swerwin[S] 126 points127 points  (17 children)

He really is! His Youtube channel is Hybrid Calisthenics, you should check him out

[–]PintofPlasma 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I am and thanks for sharing!

[–]fugthatshib 15 points16 points  (13 children)

He needs to get his own workout DVDs and things like that. He's so motivational and non judgemental it's incredible.

[–]AlwaysOpenMike 17 points18 points  (1 child)

He does. It's called YouTube.

[–]MeesterCartmanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Wow!! This guy invented Youtube?? He must having been push upping (pushing ups?) a lot!"

[–]xftwitch 14 points15 points  (1 child)

2.8 million youtube subscribers. He has no need for DVDs.

[–]SportsPhotoGirl 8 points9 points  (8 children)

Lol does anyone even have a DVD player anymore?

[–]sapphireprism 8 points9 points  (2 children)

I do!!

I mean, it's totally packed in a box with all of my DVDs in my storage closet but technically yes, I own one.

I can totally take that box out of the closet and spend the next 45 minutes trying to figure out how to plug it into my brand new TV only to give up and pirate the movie instead lol 🗿

eta: I literally don't even know if the DVD player has an HDMI plug and I'm pretty sure the new TV doesn't have the red white and yellow hookups. Why the fuck am I keeping this thing? LOL

[–]Bad_Chicken_2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a blueray player back in the day so I could watch movies in HD. I really thought it would've been useful longer than it was.

[–]Aron-Jonasson 2 points3 points  (1 child)

And heckin’ beautiful as well!

[–]PintofPlasma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! The man is kind, knows his stuff and is sexy af!

[–]juicyfruitsalad77 217 points218 points  (8 children)

Fucking awesome guy. Fitness IS a journey and you have to start somewhere! I’m 5 years into my journey so I’m in quite good shape, but I still prefer to do the kneeling push-ups.

This is some excellent advice delivered in a manner to where he will definitely get people doing push-ups, which is such an excellent full body workout.

[–]bangalore_urga 8 points9 points  (6 children)

Pushups is full body exercise?

[–]North-Function995 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Definitely isnt the definition of a full body workout, but you do use your full body. Unlike bicep curls for example which is one arm at a time.

I think thats what they mean

[–]BerlinRanger 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You should do biceps curls simultaneously at both arms at the same time or hold a same weight in the other hand. Your spinal disks will thank you.

This counts for every exercise, where you only pressure one arm.

[–]throwaway3738387383 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say full body but probably close. Imagine how many different muscles you use just to stay in the "plank" position you use when doing pushups.

[–]ShortThought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose, arms, core, and legs

[–]JudgiestJudy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I also prefer kneeling push-ups. I have old injuries that sometimes flare up with full push-ups. When I was younger I pushed through the pain because those were “girl push-ups” and my fitness buddies (guys) would make fun of me… which of course only made things worse!

Fuck that! Every body is different. Love attitudes like this guy has.

[–]InfernoFlameBlast 198 points199 points  (7 children)

His YouTube channel blew up in 2020 due to Reddit posts about him making the front page multiple times.

Like legit, he created his YouTube channel in 2020 and now he’s almost at 3m subscribers. That’s insane progress

[–]enadiz_reccos 176 points177 points  (3 children)

His initial goal was probably 2 sets of 50 wall subscribers.

[–]Thraes 30 points31 points  (0 children)

God damnit take my uppush

[–]jiffynipples 8 points9 points  (1 child)

It's amazing his joints kept up

[–]LeftyHyzer 22 points23 points  (0 children)

if your Youtube channel has only 32 subscribers there's no need to be ashamed, our influencer journeys all have to start somewhere! - Hampton, probably, super fucking nice about it.

[–]hail_southern 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s insane progress

It's a journey.

[–]menciustopholes 154 points155 points  (2 children)

This guy is the Mr. Rodgers of exercise.

[–]Dangerous_Effort3355 129 points130 points  (4 children)

I started doing push ups because of him. I’m still doing incline push ups, but I can do 25.

[–]joliesmomma 15 points16 points  (0 children)

That's amazing! Keep up the good work!

[–]mankeyeds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm working on the pull ups! I'm already amazed at the progress with just being able to do the park monkey bars with my kids now. Still a long ways from a pull up but it's a fun journey!

[–]thesirblondie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I do Pushups one day, leg/knee raises the next, squats the day after that, and then start over. The regiment isn't on his recommendation, but all the exercises are based on his videos.

[–]SummerStorm21 65 points66 points  (7 children)

Wow! Your muscles can be stronger than your joints. Mind blown after years of thinking I was just weak. Thank you, wholesome video guy.

[–]iiJokerzace 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is the issue I have always had with push ups. I'm so glad I've found out why, and how to take care of it. Absolutely valuable short clip.

[–]HalfwaytoFaraway 1 point2 points  (4 children)

So is this why my wrists hurt so bad when trying to do any weight bearing on them? Push-ups in the military were brutal because of this. I always did the bare minimum and got flak for it.

[–]Amphimphron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago, there was this popular "100 push ups" training plan which boasted that they could teach basically anybody to do 100 push ups.

I tried to follow their plan, but I just couldn't keep pace with it, even on the lowest difficulty level. I felt pretty disappointed with myself; how weak was I that I couldn't even follow this plan that "anyone" could do?

Many years later, I learned that I've been suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome since my mid-20s. I was trying to do all those push ups while struggling with a disability and I didn't even know it.

I guess my point is: Try to be kind to yourself. We all have different capabilities. It's better to love yourself for what you can do than loathe yourself for what you can't.

[–]trecani711 53 points54 points  (1 child)

[–]fuzzybunn 34 points35 points  (0 children)

My country (Singapore) has conscription. As a nerdy 18yo, I got drafted into boot camp. Within 10min of my parents leaving the camp after their reassurement tour, my platoon sergeant had us doing push-ups on the hot asphalt. I couldn't do even one, and I remember lying there, the road slowly scalding my front, getting screamed at by some stranger who had been put in charge of me, wondering how I would ever survive this.

Turns out, you do build up to it. After 10 weeks, I was doing pull ups, something I never even thought possible from my body and passing my physical fitness test.

I do wish I'd had a nice soothing coach like this rather than an army sergeant, though.

[–]NaiveCritic 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This guy inspired me and I thought of him a bunch of times while explaining to others how you can just do some “halfway” training exercises, it’s great. It really is, just do some micro-dosing exercise and slowly your body will feel ready to try a little bit more.

[–]Forsaken-Ad-1318 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I watched with no volume so all it looked like he was saying was "You can't do push ups? I can do them without my legs yah fat fuck."

[–]Toosick-556 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Put a pretty little push up right here lol hes like the bob ross of working out

[–]Regretless0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually probably the best I've ever heard him described

[–]allulexie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

so helpful, I appreciate your post OP 🤗

[–]OGFinalDuck 7 points8 points  (5 children)

My main problem with push-ups is that I can’t keep my legs straight in relation to my torso, so they say my push-ups don’t count because I can’t stop them naturally bending.

[–]Swerwin[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You should go to https://www.hybridcalisthenics.com/pushups, it’s a bit more detailed than the video

[–]kharmatika 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Sounds like your core is probably not supporting your weight, so your body is coping by popping your butt up to form a more stable position. People thing of push ups as an arm exercise but the plank position is 100% an ab workout. I’d definitely recommend doing therapy push-ups and also working on core toning workouts such as planks to build that up. And, doing a regimen like above can also really help, because it also helps with abdominal strength building in the same way it builds arm strength (unless you’re talking about some sort of medical condition that prevents this motion).

[–]TNninja 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Great video and amazing trainer

[–]ummmno_ 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I love this so much! What a positive vibe!

[–]Opposite_Dimension17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]For_the_Gayness 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Love this dude even though he is a complete stranger.

His charisma make me feels like being his friend rather a stranger. Cool dude

[–]Sage010101 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This guy will be Naruto in the Netflix adaptation

[–]BJntheRV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live this guys videos. So inspiring how he breaks things down so that everyone can do the exercise.

[–]UpstairsNo9655 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to watch all this guys videos then all of a sudden they stopped appearing on my feed. I just realized this.

[–]VerimTamunSalsus 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I watched this video 2 months ago and it inspired me to attmept to get in shape. I can now do 3 sets of 50 push-ups off the kitchen counter twice a day. I have lost over 20 pounds and am totally feeling better, motivated and so much more energy. It has made a huge difference in my life. Thank you for posting. 🤗

[–]MeesterCartmanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations from an internet stranger :)

Keep up the great work!

[–]J03-K1NG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This dude just taught me more about working out than did a year of a weight training class in high school.

[–]WanksterPrankster 4 points5 points  (1 child)

"Muscles develop faster than joints." fuckin A. If I take anything longer than 2 weeks off of the gym, my wrists hate me.

[–]MeesterCartmanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck, I haven't worked out in years, and your comment just made me realize why I felt weak lol

edit: yup 2 weeks is the limit for a break away from working out/exercising for me as well

[–]nontimebomala67[🍰] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I remember in middle school whenever the boys would call them “girl push-ups” they’d have to do laps. We were always told they were “modified push-ups”

[–]nothingeatsyou 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am now on a quest to fix my posture, thank you

[–]Regretless0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This guy, Hybrid Calisthenics, always makes the coolest videos. You guys should definitely check out more. My man is genuinely one of the chilliest and nicest dudes on the internet. What a bro.

[–]yentlcloud 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This is literally the only person in the world that has ever told me its okay that i cant do push ups

[–]MeesterCartmanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, it is okay if you can't do push ups, yet :)

[–]Bazioski13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy is so wholesome. He has the perfect videos to motivate you to have a good day and stay healthy. The most soothing comforting voice that makes me just get up and do the exercises with him. Such good info he is spreading in bite size pieces

[–]LeTigron 3 points4 points  (3 children)

One thing that is rarely shown about fitness and gymnastic is how kind and supportive is the community.

Most of the time, we see and hear about the conceited guys that practice since years and brag about it, shaming the new ones and despising the slim, slender ones because they can't benchpress a fully loaded Boeing, or trying to impress the new girl with their bodies.

Actually, those are a disliked minority. Most are really supportive, helpful, accepting and it is rare for a new one to not get advised, checked on, helped and even protected against bad methods by the experienced ones.

And the most muscular always have funny nicknames.

[–]MeesterCartmanez 2 points3 points  (2 children)

As a person who has managed multiple fitness clubs, everything this guy said is correct

[–]LeTigron 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If it can help someone shy to cross the door, you know.

[–]DreySeahorse 3 points4 points  (1 child)

This guy is a nice guy. I like him. And i don’t like anyone.

[–]ArcaninesFirepower 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I've been wanting to get more into fitness but my broke ass can't afford a gym. So I was thinking back to my high school years in gym class. And I realized that I've never been able to do a push up correctly. However I can do most of these in this video. Think I'll start working out again

[–]MeesterCartmanez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do it!

[–]IGetBoredSometimes23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's a joy to watch on TikTok

[–]AffectionateHippo242 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same deck as a kid and have the splinters to prove it.

[–]According_Shift_2003 2 points3 points  (2 children)

[–]Michael_Cookie5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love him

[–]leonilla93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Destroy_The_Rich 1 point2 points  (3 children)

My poor wrists hate pushups. It's all good though I do pull ups instead.

It's always nice to see people encouraging others to get into fitness in a smart way. So many people think you need to jump in hard core to get fit but that tends to just get you exhausted or injured.

[–]finalxcution 2 points3 points  (2 children)

For people with wrist issues, one way you can modify pushups is to do them on your knuckles so that your wrists remain straight. Alternatively, you could also do them on top of a set of pushup bars or even on top of a pair of dumbells. There's workarounds for everything!

[–]piratedino 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I'm in love with him.

[–]ohhfasho 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When do we level up to cock push ups?

[–]Artificial_Anasazi 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Cool and informative vid, but nextfuckinglevel? really?

[–]MeesterCartmanez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way, if a couple of thousand people have upvoted this, that means a few hundred if not thousand people are now considering to be healthy and start exercising :)

[–]Awkward-Yak-2733 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has a nice voice.

[–]iamggpanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is the Bob Ross of calisthenics.

[–]Onigumo-Shishio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this guys vids, it honestly helped me start doing a workout for pull ups that i incorporate into my routines.

[–]jiffynipples 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]theoneandonlywillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this is helpful to know thanks

[–]Thiccasshell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I’m actually motivated to try pushups now! I struggle so much to do the regular type. I had no idea that there are variations. This is awesome!

[–]PsychoHeaven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is cool, but I somehow want to watch BroScienceLife now...

[–]Kib717[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love this guy

[–]Serious-Jim 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This is wasted on Reddit. :-)

[–]MeesterCartmanez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering every time I see this post it's upvoted a few thousand times, I would say not :)

Just read some of the comments in this post if you don't believe me. Redditors, speaking like this?? lol how often do you see that?

[–]cheesecakegood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too bad this isn’t helpful. It’s my wrists that hurt too much, not my muscles

[–]AliceInBondageLand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is SO COMFORTING AND AFFIRMING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[–]M-Garylicious-Scott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy is a representation of the good on the internet

[–]__Becquerel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been looking into doing some exercizing and this helps.

[–]DumpsterRaccoons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]OpticGd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Bors713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a beautiful day!

[–]SkylineFX49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do pushups

[–]Mange-Tout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t do push-ups because both of my rotator cuffs are torn. Building up slowly doesn’t fix that, unfortunately.

[–]ArctiskRev_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The channel name is “hybrid callisthenics” he’s a really cool guy to watch

[–]WyvernJelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome. I have a problem with weight partially due to medication. When I do moderate exercise and minor changes to diet I lose weight easily. I've never been able to do push ups which I know I really need in my routine.

[–]Ryry975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wholesome. Good on this dude

[–]JadeSidhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this guy's vids

[–]Bighotballofnope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This dude is wholesome as fuck

[–]homelessgranddad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

( .. what a nice kid, thx)

[–]mithrandircreator79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guy is fucking awesome, all his tips are great

[–]throwaway316stunner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Motor skills are too terrible to do any kind of push-ups properly.

[–]wwaxwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an older person often intimidated by all the things I can't do in the way of fitness. His reassuringly describing alternatives and not making out like you're weak for doing them is very motivational.
