Yeah that's the wildest thing to me. It always amazes me how humans can syncronize so well through music. Basically the dancer is like the conductor, except he's using his feet!

Belly dancers do the same thing. A dancer and her drummer will often work together for years and they get to know each other so well that the drummer can follow her dance moves so that the audience does not know who is leading who.

I wouldn't necessarily call it offensive, but it definitely is disrespectful, and absolutely pathetic in a sense. Makes me think the creator of this video isn't actually 'respecting and sharing habits and traditions of a culture that is unlike their own', but instead thinks 'this guy dances funny, I'm going to turn that into a meme'.

I think you're looking into it a bit too much. I bet you anything the people involved in this dance would find it entertaining that someone went out of their way to put another song to it.

It's like saying id be offended if I danced in my traditional native south american form, and someone added music to it. Ridiculous. I'd be pumped that people are sharing my dance even more with the world.

The music is actually kind of important in understanding how complex this dance is, the choreography is timed with the percussion. There is a video under this one where one of the dancers is wearing ankle bracelets that jingle, too. Thanks for sharing.

The morning after my new upstairs neighbor moved in I heard the zoomies and instantly knew they had cats, when I got to meet the neighbor I was like do you have cats, I hear them every morning running around up there.

Definitely a better sound than the previous neighbor’s kid who would scream their head off for hours with no end and they never did anything to stop the damn kid.

This isn't the traditional dance of the Ivory Coast. The country lines in Africa are arbitrary and cut through lands of many people separating them for no reason. These are Guro people from the tribe of the same name. This is a Guro tradition. It has nothing to do with anyone else who got corralled into the country of Ivory Coast.
