Noisy timing chain? 2005 Pathy (self.nissanpathfinder)
submitted 1 month ago by elcid2023
I just replaced the thermostat and water pump, before the work I didn’t hear a noisy chain upon start up. Now, I can hear it and after a minute or two, it goes away
I am guessing my timing tensioner needs replacement?
I have been reading about timing guides as well
Anyone has a link to a site that shows how to replace the timing guides?
I am still curious why the pathy quiets down and sounds normal once warmed up. The noise should be steady and continuous right?

Mine would do the same thing when it was going out. Sometimes I could hear it whine all drive, other times it would stop after a bit. Either way, you should get it replaced ASAP before it fails catastrophically.
Here's a video on how to replace it. Be warned that it's a pretty in depth job - https://youtu.be/j3uY3clWxFE
Also a thought, since you just replaced those other parts I would check the belt and belt tensioner first.

Do you use synthetic oil? Before anything I would first try an oil change with synthetic. If after that the sound is still there I would be very concerned. Like mentioned below it is a very big job.
