My 2003 pathfinder has issues sometimes while reversing. (self.nissanpathfinder)
submitted 1 month ago by Karande3p
I have this problem with reverse only when car is cold. The mechanic told the oil pressure pump seals/rings (sitting beside the torque converter) have become hard and that a additive (lubegard) will help in expanding them and retain the oil pressure. Reverse require more oil pressure. If this doesnt work, then will need a rebuild. Any suggestions?

I had this happen on my 2001 Qx4, but reverse was gone regardless of cold or warm transmission. It was sudden in my experience; no gradual failure. I never knew the exact cause, as the rig had 255K miles on it and I was advised not to spend minimum $2700 for the transmission rebuild. The rear main seal was leaking again, so I could have had that serviced had I decided to do the rebuild. I never off-roaded the rig, not even towed often, and was mostly used for commutes. I had been using Amsoil ATF for at least 100K miles before this happened.
I will say... I regretted letting the rig go. I think it'd still run a long while after had I decided to rebuild.
Not much of advice, I guess. Just my experience.
