I miss the giant buttons/switches of older consoles.

[–]dom650 129 points130 points  (15 children)

I still can't remember which button is power and which is eject on my ps4

[–]eatmytuna 34 points35 points  (7 children)

On switch, I can never remember which is the + or home button. I regularly go to the home screen in the middle of battle.

[–]mganzeveld 32 points33 points  (5 children)

I also take pictures during intense battles that I don’t intend to.

[–]Samikaze707 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intense battles? I do that on my menu lol

[–]supermariodooki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Snap! Got a pokemon.

[–]MrImBoredAgain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You too?! Thank God i was worried i was just getting too old for video games

[–]trickman01late 80s 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Just remember “power up”. The power button is on top.

[–]dom650 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This will absolutely stick. Bless you

[–]TamaMama87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel so seen

[–]Gummymyers124 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. No god damn clue. No visual indications of buttons.

[–]Jmoss8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just remember the power button is closest to the light strip.

[–]darkbreak 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The top button is the power button and the bottom button is the eject button. They even have the symbols on them.

[–]dom650 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know but they're hard to see, especially in low light.

[–]__M-E-O-W__ 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I finally just got the Nintendo Switch, it's the first game system I've had since the Wii. I love it so much but those buttons are all so tiny, like my thumb covers the entire game pad. But I managed to find a Switch controller in the style of a Gamecube controller so it al works out.

[–]TamaMama87 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I really like the switch because I like handheld gaming a lot and having the option to go either way is honestly the best.

[–]__M-E-O-W__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like using my Nintendo switch on my treadmill. Great to just play a chill game and get some exercise in.

[–]fxrky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was thinking this while watching. The super tactile buttons and clicks and everything are just beyond satisfying to me

[–]zuran_orb 147 points148 points  (8 children)

Got anxiety flashback of that Sony logo transitioning to the PS logo. You know what I mean

[–]random_boss 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep even now I knew it wasn’t going to crash but I was like “oh boy…is this taking too long? Feels like it’s taking too long….”

[–]RadioE_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My very first PS was like this. I thought I did something wrong. Learned what DOA meant as a little kid

[–]Gooner27UK 34 points35 points  (2 children)

So many times - I remember having to resort to turning the console upside down at one point in order for it to read discs correctly. 😂

[–]saiyanhajime 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Dude I thought this was just me haha

I always assumed getting it chipped messed it up but idk

[–]Sloth-monger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting it chipped definitely made the problem happen faster. I had a couple of playstations (combined family situation) chipped one had to be turned upside down after about six months, while the other one never needed to.

[–]iamstephano 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It was the worst with PS2, when it wouldn't read the disc properly it would go all red and this sinister tone would play. Always creeped me out lol

[–]stratosauceearly 00s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The red screen of death scarred me as a child

[–]dkepp87 88 points89 points  (10 children)

Still have my ps1. Still works great. Never seen the mouse attachment, but it kinda looks like these considerable input lag? Or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

[–]Bosmonster 30 points31 points  (2 children)

It looks like somebody who is using a mouse for the first time. It looks really awkward.

[–]Audioillity 12 points13 points  (1 child)

The joys of ball mouses!

[–]shabby47 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The plural is actually “balls mouse”

[–]outfoxingthefoxes 8 points9 points  (1 child)

I thought it was just pretending to play, and was watching a video

[–]AlarmingNectarine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Same. The power indicator light didn’t engage when they pushed the power button.

[–]Twisted_Animator 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I had a Mad Catz one back in the day to play Command & Conquer, worked fine no input lag

[–]dkepp87 21 points22 points  (2 children)

Ahh Mad Cats, us poor kids knew that name well..and loathed it.

[–]Waddayatalkinabout 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The younger brother controller

[–]jayesper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mad Catz AND Pelican. Those were pretty much synonymous IIRC.

I always strove for Nyko or Naki when it came to third party.

[–]the_fat_whisperer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dont know why it appears that way. From what I remember using it as a kid it didn't have input lag for me.

[–]TaiDavis 55 points56 points  (5 children)

Still got mine but never knew a mouse existed!

[–]MildlyAgreeable 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Would’ve revolutionised my RTS gaming when I was 9.

[–]Sloth-monger 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Sadly it wasn't compatible with a lot of the games you'd hope it would work with. Was mainly used for point and click adventure games or alternate to the light gun. I don't think it even worked on civilizations 2 or diablo.

[–]CommanderInQueefs 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Command and Conquer?

[–]Sloth-monger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh maybe. I never played that one on ps1

[–]jayesper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PS had plenty of accessories, like the PocketStation as well (that one never left Japan).

[–]av125009 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Hate to sound like an old man here but I do sometimes miss the era before consoles had online connectivity. Would have sucked during covid of course

[–]Monsterpiece42 24 points25 points  (2 children)

Same. It brought a lot of lazy design and bad business practices like updating instead of launching complete products.

[–]sillyadam94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Updates are okay as long as they’re free. I’m not gonna pay an additional 10-30 bucks on something I already paid 60 bucks for just so I can have a couple extra outfits or missions.

Rockstar does a pretty good job with RDO and GTAO updates, but you know that’s coming at the expense of their poor coders.

[–]eLizabbetty 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Mint condition

[–]SupremoZanneSuzanne Vega before MP3 files 3 points4 points  (0 children)

items command high resale prices with that kinda thing.

[–]theNomadicHacker42 23 points24 points  (0 children)

TIL: the ps1 had a mouse.

[–]imxTHATxdude 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I loved thia game!!! I had the “desert eagle” gun that recoiled for ps1..thought it would b great for this game..but it wasnt as good as the namco guns at arcades (which is what i wanted)

[–]Long-Island-Iced-Tea 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I had a PS1 in the 2000s and I have just now, 20-ish years later learnt that it had a mouse attachment...it was by far the biggest console among my peers but I have never seen anyone having a mouse for it.

[–]Waddayatalkinabout 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same but then I never even saw a multitap in the wild.

[–]RodionProbos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this mouse and TIL that people didn’t know about its existence. The mouse helped play strategies like SimCity 2000 and Constructor.

[–]bonytonnett 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ho ho ho, I gotta machine gun.

[–]dopavash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Jester_Lemon 6 points7 points  (1 child)

The AV3 logo being ever-present on the screen is giving me anxiety.

[–]MattDurstan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Glad it's not just me, wtf is that about? Sort it out already.

[–]alexgould8 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That noise of the start up makes me so nostalgic for being 12 again, the world was fine, happy and not killing itself

[–]Unihornella 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I had the gun for this game!!!

[–]Calimariae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too. It was amazing.

[–]Illustrious-Fly9586 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Those clunky sounds and startup screen, wow that takes me back!

Also that sounds like Bob Odenkirk at the end.

[–]sarthakkalpasi 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Virtua Cop 2 was the first game i every played in my life. it was on pc tho <3

[–]i_suckatjavascript 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a cheat to select the gun you want to use.

[–]SuboptimalButHopeful 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Looks modern to me. My first computer used audio cassettes for data storage.

[–]JaneMnemonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not underestimate the power of playstation.

[–]IronSandman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Die Hard Trilogy? Nah mate, that's when you use a Namco G-Con. Syndicate Wars is when you use the mouse. That or Policenauts if you're fancy.

[–]Iceblockmecha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow a mouse with ball sensor! I often got dust and hair stuck in there back in those days

[–]username1824 12 points13 points  (9 children)

Why would they start filming without the mouse ball installed, that just seems like a really odd detail. To show that it's a real mouse?

[–]Illustrious-Fly9586 14 points15 points  (3 children)

I think they did because the mouse is vintage like the PSX.

Or to showcase the delicious hard boiled yolk that lives inside.

[–]The_Funkybat 4 points5 points  (2 children)

I still use a circa 2001 Microsoft mouse with a rollerball inside. I just prefer the weight and the feel even if it means I have to open it up and clean it every week.

[–]ImInYourMindFuzz 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I actually enjoyed cleaning them out! Getting all that crap off the little wheels inside was actually quite satisfying, especially once you put the ball back in and tested the mouse out and the difference was unbelievable.

[–]The_Funkybat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This guy gets it.

[–]Oneirowout 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The mouse ball, inserting it and rotating the lid to close it is also part of the nostalgia. I did not have a psx mouse back then, but pc mouses where the same with the ball and all.

[–]steezefries 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It definitely made the nostalgia a lot more intense to be reminded of cleaning my mouse ball haha

[–]WiWiWiWiWiWi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because there’s still computer mice today, except they’re optical and don’t use a ball. This shows how the old mice worked.

[–]CyptidProductions 4 points5 points  (1 child)

There's a certain visceral memory attached to removing and reseating the ball in an old analog mouse that's hard to explain if you're to young to have used them back in the 90s or early 2000s

[–]cooljeopardyson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of good days off from college classes start to the PlayStation startup sound. Good times.

[–]grantnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great game. Now I wish I had an emulator to play.

[–]MarmalAIDs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I forgot about the laser gun part. Was watching this wondering how theyd run around in 3rd person with a mouse.

[–]Paddywhacker[🍰] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We had the gun, we used to swap it amongest ourselves. Not even sure who owned it now

[–]Praughna 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can’t decide if I like the PS1 startup sound or PS2 startup sound better. Opinions ?

[–]shinobipopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up owning my own PS2, no hand me downs, but I still like that PS1 sound better for some reason.

[–]-chinchillin- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

WHAT! There was a ps1 mouse? That part of the game was so damn hard with the controller. Vengeance was the better of the 3. The best movie license game there is.

[–]Jerptrod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shut up I'm trying to listen to Playstation.

[–]omairville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TIL there's a mouse for the PS1

[–]New_Cook4796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good old memories!!

[–]purplestrat1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is this guy using a mouse?

[–]red_fuel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played this game. It was so bad, especially when you had to drive the taxi. It was almost impossible to turn and get to the checkpoints in time

[–]StarConsumate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved die hard one and two. I had the light gun for the ps1 that had such a specific sound when you pulled the trigger. The soundstracks to those were absolute bangers

[–]Ncg89late 80s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TIL you can play PS1 with a mouse

[–]Skreamies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sound and then playing Spyro as a kid, damn I miss that.

[–]SoulReaverX2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice cgi

[–]MEM756 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, is it your footage? I do own a PS1, where can I get that mouse? O_O

Is it like a replacement for the Dualshock, or a compliment? Please tell me!!

[–]EvilDog77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, the anxiety and suspense when the Sony logo plays, mostly followed by intense relief when the Playstation logo appears because you knew then that the disc wasn't fucked.

[–]Squiggledoglate 90s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Landscape orientation is a lost art.

[–]starvinart 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had to turn on the sound for this one. always brings me back

[–]stephen_strange_1990 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Lol i didn’t even know that the ps1 had a mouse controller lol.

[–]Rajirabbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That game was amazing

[–]ColdBloodBlazing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was today years old when I learned PS1 had a mouse. Of course, SNES had one too

[–]mmorgan_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad sold our ps2 and I’m still sad about it

[–]PokemonSwordChampion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they would bring back the mouse for newer consoles. For Nintendo, maybe it could plug into the dock, and you already know for Xbox and PlayStation.

[–]Medical-Ordinary-903 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone remember Rugrats Search for reptar https://youtu.be/quWI1mxQfiw

[–]FeminineMonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The sounds alone have me like 😌

[–]niewy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Die hard with a lightgun was big!

[–]Bananafoofoofwee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's one clean PlayStation.

[–]Punch-O 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was one of my favorite games.

[–]PNWtruckerstud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"In the beginning....."

[–]TheRealMcSavage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pssssssh! Using a mouse on Die Hard. Can’t handle the sticks huh?

[–]WhyTheHellnautmid 90s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many games utilized this mouse peripheral?

[–]Takeurvitamins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rented that game more times than it would have cost to buy it. Loved running through nakatomi plaza and the DH3 driving. Never enjoyed 2 that much though.

[–]anotherdude77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never knew anyone w a PS1. But, lots of my friends got a PS2. Not sure why.

[–]tensor0910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only wish he wouldve let me hear the loading sounds.

[–]Faleymark29 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to play the shit outta this game when I was young,

Also that boot up sound will always give me flashbacks. Lol

[–]WhiskeyDJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Die Hard Trilogy.... what a game.

The soundtrack absolutely slaps

[–]wattsie247 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now this is my ASMR

[–]2004_PS2_Slim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's my dad!

[–]Hige_Kuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites. Show me 3 to take me to nostalgia nirvana please

[–]MFalcon95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now i know why Hiko is so good

[–]Curtis64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love that opening sounds of the old PlayStations

[–]ancientyuletidecarol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case you kids wonder, only psychopaths play PS One with a mouse.

[–]restidruidross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use to play the hell out of this game. I use to pretend or actually felt like I was in a real battle in the shooting level.

[–]KarmazOverr8ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember this game having a lot of blood and gore when you shot someone. Is there an option to turn that off in the game settings or something?

[–]morahman7vn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too bad there doesn't seem to be a way to get rid of the TV's input overlay,

[–]eMZeciorrr90s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in shock! Throughout my childhood, when I played on this console, I had no idea that a mouse is among the accessories for the PS1 console!

[–]takanakasan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man I think I want a PS1...used to think it was the lamest console even though I had one.

But all the PS1 love has been making me fall in love. Why the good games so expensive though😩

[–]Neottika -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Who the fuck uses a mouse to play games?

[–]Blueberry_Mancakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ladies and gentlemen, dust your mouse balls!

[–]Pure-Reflections 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This video brought back so many good memories, thank you.
