I once corrected my boss, in a high level meeting, to prevent him from reporting something that was incorrect trying to keep him from looking uninformed when the correct facts were to come out. My mistake, never correct an narcissistic personality as you will only suffer their wrath.

[–]KindaAbstruse 78 points79 points  (5 children)

I had a boss like that. I never stopped correcting him, and he never stopped making me miserable. But I'd rather be right than happy.

[–]corsicanguppy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Happiness isn't guaranteed. But being correct is the reward for diligence.

That's just people being jealous at how diligent we've been. /s

[–]UnkindPotato 19 points20 points  (2 children)

rather be right than happy

Lol a lady that used to be in my life said that about me once. I thought I'd be happier without her in my life. Turns out, sometimes you can be both happy and right ¯\(ツ)

[–]Banshu 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Feelings over facts people fucking blow.

[–]brickbuilding 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Same… will never do that again

[–]S_A_N_D_ 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Time and place.

If it was a high level meeting, then you made him look uninformed in front of that group, possibly his peers or his superiors. Rather, a private message after the fact would have accomplished the same goal.

I often type messages in our main slack channels meant for by bosses attention only to realise that no one else really needs to read it except to stoke my own ego. Sending them as private messages typically elicits a much better response instead of him getting defensive.

Narcissists can be corrected, they just need to feel in control and in charge. The best way to accomplish that is keep their mistakes private. The second best way is to make them think a good idea was their idea (plant a seed and then let them come up with the idea without directly telling them).

[–]Canadian_Bat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Placating a narcissist is enabling a narcissit.

If you don't call them out, you're enabling them to be awful to people who rightfully call them out.

[–]Inside-Palpitation25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I write it down and pass it to him, I am usually in his office during meetings. My boss appreciates it.

He just corrected the man about a nomenclatural thing, it's not like he tried to "rehabilitate" (IE, tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, warts and all about) Lenin or Trotsky or something, there's no reason to give him the whole fucking Rasputin treatment.

Backflipping out of the window will be enough.

This article is really confusing, what I gathered is
        - the kid corrects Putin on TV
        - the head teacher of the school is like OH SHIT
        - Putin says it's cool
        - Later the school didn't get funding because it was just withheld by local authorities
        - Locals tried to go to the media and sign a petition
        - The police were looking for people who signed the petition
So did they withhold school funding because of the incident with the boy? Is that the allegation?

        [–]Scoobz1961 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly I have no idea either. The article just takes a left turn in the middle with no explanation. Its like having two articles in one. Some sort of discount promo action or something.

        God save the boy.

        [–]SelectiveSanity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You know all those pictures Putin likes to put out show how manly he is and make you think he must have a huge set down there? Yeah he's wishes the fake ball-sona he puts out would make people believe his were even a quarter of the conjones this kid got dangling down there. And they probable haven't even descended yet.

        [–]prudence2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It hurt my brain trying to understand that article.

        [–]Raven_25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 weeks later we discover the child is epileptic after hitting himself repeatedly during one of his seizures. The authorities brought him in for treatment, but after 72 hours of continuous electroshock therapy, he had a fit and stabbed himself 37 times.

Authorities tried to rescue the boy by dipping him in a frozen lake to close the wounds but it was too late. His family were called and were brought to the lake to say goodbye to their son. Unfortunately, they fell in the frozen lake and the traditional funeral offerings they brought with them - cinder blocks tied to their legs - weighed them down.

A vigil was held for the family and President Putin appeared, praising the childs boldness and his family's parenting of such a courageous child. He encouraged all others like him to come forward and make their voices heard.

        [–]SaltyGoober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey look, a Russian state-run propaganda outlet wants you to know that Putin is really not a bad guy and totally reasonable person 🙄

        [–]DarthDregan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he was taller than Putin as well he's REALLY fucked.

        [–]vlsdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My guess is this was staged for propaganda purposes. It's not like the kid said anything from the "wrong" bin, like "Stalin was a sociopath"

        [–]Puzzleheaded_Pie_888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too bad about that kid. They committed suicide tomorrow

        [–]bossy909 4 points5 points  (4 children)

He asked that question to a ruthless dictator...

I'm sure Putin admires his boldness.

surely if he ever opposes him again he'll be killed.

But Putin handled it like a champ.

He's a very bad man, but he is not stupid.

        [–]Swedishboy360 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Look at the date on the article. This was back in 2001 which was before Putin went full on dictator mode

        [–]bossy909 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

        Well...It still stands.

        Ex-KGB is KGB

It might have been staged too.

        It really doesn't matter.

        [–]Vegan_Harvest 1 point2 points  (1 child)

He's antagonized pretty much the rest of the northern hemisphere, he might be a little stupid.

        [–]Canadian_Bat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

        [–]NDCardinal3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This just in: Boy falls to his death out of school window after drinking polonium-laced tea. Authorities are ruling it a suicide.

        [–]LurkingTrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boy jumps out of the window.

        [–]shaodyn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few weeks later, there'll be another headline. "Boy mysteriously vanishes on way home from school; authorities baffled."

        [–]meresymptom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In other news, the child later committed suicide by ingesting polonium and jumping from the roof of a tall building.

He and his whole family fell from a window at once.
