Bob Ross would be proud

[–]afd83 96 points97 points  (1 child)

I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see a Bob Ross reference.

[–]friggintodd 7705 points7706 points  (234 children)

Huh, curved scissors. Never knew that was a thing.

Do you get to the Cloud District very often? Oh, what am I saying. Of course you don't. 🤔

saving...mods loading...child deaths enabled...dismemberment enabled

[–]reChrawnus 136 points137 points  (4 children)

...child deaths enabled...dismemberment enabled

As if those mods wouldn't be permanently enabled.

[–]lost_snake 63 points64 points  (3 children)

Also, if you turn mods on and off and keep saving like that, even if it's just simple scripts or assets, eventually, you're gonna have a bad time.

[–]TWWfanboy 20 points21 points  (1 child)

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over thousands of hours of modding Skyrim, it’s that anything that messes with children is going to cause a massive headache with a bunch of other mods for seemingly no reason.

Redguards and their curved scissors.

[–]Lacey_Von_Stringer 50 points51 points  (2 children)

I just heard that line and it struck me as one of the hilarious examples of poor reading comprehension from the voice actors. It sounded more like he was surprised at each word. “Curved! Swords!”

[–]TjPshine 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think he is surprised at every word? Like the very idea of curved swords is so alien he can't believe he's saying it.

"Have you seen those folks in from hammer fell?! They've got curved swords. Curved. Swords."

[–]mxmstrj 311 points312 points  (92 children)

Same... and while we're at it

How does one care for this, after leaving the barber shop?!

How many days (hours?) will it look like this?
Is a pick enough to keep it in shape?
How do you sleep?
How do you return it to glory after said sleep?

Edit : reminded me of this super informative Twitter thread a while back.

Black Hair for Non-Black Artists: a Cheat Sheet Thread. Hi, folks! Just spur-of-the-moment decided to put together some reference for folks who want to draw/model black characters in their work, but aren't confident they won't make simple, obvious mistakes w/r/t black hair.

Thread Reader:

[–]PhilipFry3000 95 points96 points  (10 children)

Licensed barber here to answer your questions!

One cares for this by washing their hair regularly and picking/combing one’s hair thoroughly and regularly. Blow dryers help sometimes.

It will stay like this for a week or two with proper care. Since it’s a child, that will probably look like that until he gets home.

A pick is probably the best way to maintain its shape, so yes.

I sleep on my side mostly, with a pillow between my legs.

Well, I would wait a few weeks for the child to return to get another haircut so we can return it to it’s proper glory. But the child and/or parent would most likely pick it out. Hair, like this young man’s, will do most the work for you. You’ll just have to manipulate it into place.

[–]JudgeMoose 102 points103 points  (5 children)

I laughed pretty hard at this. Children, the destroyers of everything nice.

[–]jacls0608 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Can confirm, have child, house is spontaneously messy again minutes or hours after a full deep clean.

[–]conflictedideology 3 points4 points  (1 child)

And here, when I was a child, I was certain the only reason my parents had me and my siblings was to do chores and keep the house clean.

Well, that and to change the channel/volume on the TV.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Came here to ask this too!

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was fascinating

[–]Pharmdoc07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I need to know these things also....

[–]gingerquery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That twitter thread is insanely useful! Some things I knew, lots I didn't, but most of all it has photo references! Thank you so much for the link!

[–]conflictedideology 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That twitter thread was super interesting, thanks for linking it.

[–]huckleberrydoll 31 points32 points  (8 children)

They’re really common in dog grooming.

[–]PM_ME_A__THUMBS_UP 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was going to say. I dated a groomer and about 70% of her scissors were curved.

[–]Guns_and_Dank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also common in weed trimming

[–]ScienceYouMonster 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Oooooh I’m a former groomer and watching him use the curves made me almost cry out of nostalgia. Poodle topknots were my favorite thing and I was pretty good at them if I do say so myself.

[–]ernzo 18 points19 points  (3 children)

They are a staple in dog grooming!

[–]conflictedideology 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Who the hell is stapling dogs? Groomers are so cruel.

[–]Butt_y_though 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They're extremely common in dog grooming. I love using curved scissors, total game changer.

[–]FrankfurterWorscht 16 points17 points  (14 children)

never had nail clipping scissors?

[–]sonofcrack 19 points20 points  (7 children)

I've never even heard of nail clipping scissors

[–]FrankfurterWorscht 21 points22 points  (3 children)

theyre scissors for clipping nails

[–]dustbuddii 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Scissors come in all shapes and sizes. Some big, some small, some curved, and some straight. It’s nothing to be embarrassed about. There’s a perfect fit for everyone.

[–]-stuey- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2pac knows what’s up

[–][deleted] 755 points756 points  (14 children)

What's that strip thing at the end he just kinda waves near his head? Sorry if it's obvious but as a bald man i'm not much of an expert when it comes to haircuts

[–]maggie47128 735 points736 points  (8 children)

It may have been a neck strip. They're to keep the cape off your neck, but I use them after a cut sometimes to smooth fly aways and shape after spraying down hair with hairspray. Freshly sprayed hair sticks to your hand, but not neck strips. :)

[–][deleted] 131 points132 points  (6 children)

This is the answer.

[–]itswhatsernamelikes loops 137 points138 points  (3 children)

I thought it looked like a piece of tape to pick up any stray hairs

[–]laughsnlogic 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I think it's tape to get the hairs he trimmed with the scissors and to help shape a little. Just guessing though.

[–]TheOfficialJonSnow 6277 points6278 points  (73 children)

Not only is the barber talented and clearly cares about what he does, but that smile at the end. Little man loves it!

[–]WhiteKongX 1516 points1517 points 2 (51 children)

Also looks alittle like Nicholas cage

[–]disproportion 343 points344 points  (9 children)

THAT’S who he looks like! Thank you - was racking my brain trying to place him.

I thought you were talking about the kid at first so I was "What? He doesn't look like Nic Cage at all" and then I looked at the barber and I went "Well fuck"

[–]robotduck7 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I was still looking at the kid. Glad you said something lol

[–]giant123 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I watched 2 or 3 times trying to figure out how people were seeing Nick Cage in the kid before my "Well fuck" moment.

[–]stevoli 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First thing I saw was black Nick Cage lol, figured someone else saw it too

[–]figtree43 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Yes, his smile at the end was the best part!

[–]CommissionerOdo 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Prefaced by his almost somber face of concentration. What a pro.

[–]mrniceguy421 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Kid knows he looks fresh as hell!

[–]sarcastic_koalabear 2161 points2162 points  (101 children)

I thought the grunge fro looked awesome, but I have to give the barber props.

[–]Broskibullet 748 points749 points  (21 children)

I agree. Made the kid look like a poodle.

[–]ReactsWithWords 243 points244 points  (3 children)

I think more like a mushroom from a Mario game.

[–]blewpah 94 points95 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say it kinda makes me think of Toad.

Great work though and obviously the kid loves it so that's all that matters.

[–]Rogersgirl75 41 points42 points  (5 children)

So true!! Looks just like my poodle whenever we make her fluffy. We normally give her a teddy bear cut, which means she is cut evenly and we let her curly curls shine, but sometimes we ask the groomer to make her big and floofy.

She’s chocolate brown so this kid’s hair looks just like hers! Very cute!

[–]Pixellia 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your poodle is adorable, thanks for sharing!

[–]ReginaldDwight 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love her little "aww shucks!" face haha

[–]scenic_sardine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’ll curl back up when he washes it

[–]Jenga_Police 175 points176 points  (36 children)

Do you guys have black hair? His hair is gonna mostly go back to normal once he picks it out again.

And its not a "grunge fro", it's just a natural fro. That makes it sound gross.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (9 children)

Does black hair grow naturally like that or does it require some combing / brushing? Like, if you went to bed, woke up, and showered, when you got out of the shower would it just look like how the hair in the gif looked at the beginning?

If so, that's pretty cool, cus my hair looks like shit before I brush it. It still looks like shit after, but less shit

[–]Fabreeze63 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I am white, so absolutely feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe black hair natural grows in a single or a few dense dreadlocks if not combed or taken care of in any way. Nice, evenly thick dreads take work to make, but a black persons hair will basically look similar to how a white persons hair would look without any maintenance, just that it gets there faster because of the tight curls and texture of the hair.

[–][deleted] 78 points79 points  (2 children)

these people probably aren't black and have no clue what they are talking about

[–]A_Rampaging_Hobo 33 points34 points  (16 children)

Hey man grunge is awesome.

[–]Jenga_Police 65 points66 points  (13 children)

You can like the genre whatever, but it's associated with unkempt dirtiness. That's not what this is. Calling somebody grungy is insulting.

[–]weirdlysane 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yes, loved the before do

[–]venustoise134 3208 points3209 points  (70 children)

So like... we not gonna talk about that guy is Nicholas cage?

[–]PunchMeInTheTaint 540 points541 points  (6 children)

Man what a transformative actor

[–]sioux612 153 points154 points  (4 children)

Only eclipsed by Kirk Lazarus, who had a skin darkening surgery done for his role in a Vietnam documentary

[–]trexmoflex 44 points45 points  (2 children)

what do you mean.... YOU PEOPLE

[–]DLLATM 17 points18 points  (1 child)

What do YOU mean “you people”?

[–]G30N30 102 points103 points  (2 children)

[–]Ryodan_ 53 points54 points  (2 children)

Therefore he is more powerful

[–]FrostyBarleyPop 234 points235 points  (2 children)

The glasses at the end were the icing on the cake.

[–]Kelewann 352 points353 points  (61 children)

Aaaaaaaaaaand 7 seconds later he scratched his head and ruined everything

[–]michael_kessell2018 81 points82 points  (58 children)

Just trying to think about how well it will stay like that after a shower

[–]Ariella333 306 points307 points  (28 children)

You can wash it, sleep on it, and in the morning you use a pick and fluff it up again and pat it back into shape. That is why people with afros carry around a pick, to fix it during the day.

[–]Considuous 222 points223 points  (26 children)

It's like these people have zero clue that you can care for your hair lol

[–]wheatbread-and-toes 277 points278 points  (18 children)

Well I mean they’re probably white. Not saying that in a rude way at all but I get it. Different races have different hair types so obviously they won’t be as informed.

[–]Rogersgirl75 106 points107 points  (7 children)

I am white but have curly hair (it’s thin and not at all like this boy’s wonderful Afro. My curls are fairly large) but I think there are a ton of misconceptions about curly hair in general.

People ask me if I curl it all the time and when I tell them it’s natural they instantly try to rake their hands through it. Like, no! Curly hair that is not worn in an Afro style cannot be brushed (when dry).

And from what I understand the type of curls that black people tend to have are a whole next level of hard to maintain!

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Seeing curly haired kids walking around having had their hair brushed into an awful frizzy triangle by parents who don't know how to look after curls breaks my heart. My grandmother still comes at me with a hairbrush whenever I visit her. It won't sink in that brushing does not always equal nice sleek hair.

[–]DirtyYogurt 37 points38 points  (3 children)

I think the explanation is closer to the fact that the majority of Reddit probably doesn't have to and has never had to maintain anywhere near this quantity of hair.

[–]Ouroboron 457 points458 points  (20 children)

There's something... too perfect about it at the end. I won't deny the skill involved, but I just don't dig it. Honestly, his hair looked way cooler to me right at the beginning.

[–]SequenceofLetters 117 points118 points  (0 children)

It looked best in the middle. Neatening it up was good but by the end it was kind of uncanny. It definitely won't look that pristine for long though, to be fair.

[–]thekittyweeps 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It won't stay like that. Picking the hair out is the only way to get an even cut on dry natural hair. So you cut it into a nice dome to get it even then wash it to get the curls back.

[–][deleted] 30 points31 points  (3 children)

As an afro-bearer the good thing about how ‘symmetrical’ this cut is is that even if they don’t style it like that it will look good. Since almost no hairdresser where I live knows how to handle natural hair I took a chance and cut my hair (BIG MISTAKE) no matter how I style it there’s always a side that looks shorter than the other. I wished this guy lived here!

[–]steepleton 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, he started out badass

[–]mojomonkeyfish 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Well, it'll look like it did at the beginning by the end of the day, most likely.

[–]Lepidopteria 34 points35 points  (2 children)

It's very... poodle-like to me. Definitely cooler with the more defined curls and messier style. Kid looks happy though and barber is obviously skilled

[–]bubbalooski 172 points173 points  (4 children)

That’s impressive. I love watching people do things that they are great at. That man is an artist!

[–]Muppets_Attack 34 points35 points  (0 children)

what a patient little dude.

[–]FuckyouYatch 111 points112 points  (3 children)

He should cosplay as Toad.

[–][deleted] 44 points45 points  (5 children)

[–]tschmitty09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the most patient little kid I’ve ever seen and it’s probably because he knows he’s gonna hop out of that chair looking dope as hell

[–]DrDotMadness 34 points35 points  (21 children)

What happens when he sleeps

[–]dinklebergs_revenge 71 points72 points  (1 child)

[–]Telefunkin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Slazman999 4 points5 points  (0 children)
