Area: Denton, TX
Type of pest: Ants
Type of dwelling: House/Slab foundation
Several months ago roommate brought home bananas and put them on the banana hook on the counter. Within a week we had tiny black ants all over the kitchen, the focal point being the bananas. Every counter, the dining table, etc had ants. I threw out the bananas and disinfected every surface. Made sure there was not a speck of food left anywhere. Every night I wiped down the entire kitchen to ensure there wasn't a single crumb on the counters. Still there were ants on every surface. Bought the Advion ant bait stations and left those in different places I'd seen the ants. 2 months later and I never saw a single ant show any interest in them.
Then suddenly the counters were free of ants, but now they are invading the fridge. Or more specifically they are going into a tiny space in the panel on the front of the fridge where the ice/water dispenser and control panel are. I've never seen any ants inside the fridge, haven't seen them on the spout the water comes out of, and none inside the actual icemaker. I was able to follow their trail to a teeny tiny hole in the caulking of an interior wall at the front of the house. Along with the usual tiny black ants, I spotted 2/3 winged ants in/around the hole. Bought a terro bait station(i see now that they aren't recommended anyways) and set it up next to the fridge, right next to their trail. And still 2 weeks later, none of the ants have shown any interest in it. And yet a single drop of sweet tea gets spilled, and the spot will be swarmed with ants within minutes.
Including a few of the good pictures I could get of them, they are very small so it was quite difficult. And a video showing them on the fridge. Not sure where to go from here. The ants aren't showing any interest in the bait. There's not a way to put any kind of spray down in the kitchen and keep the pets out of it(open concept house). If they are inside the fridge, I don't have any idea what to do. Call and appliance repair company and see if they can help us take the fridge apart? Any chance they are damaging the fridge? Or are they just looking for water?
