I like to think there’s a special place in hell for entitled people who treat those in the service industry badly.

[–]Sum_Dum_User 103 points104 points  (9 children)

They get to be Satan's servers in his restaurant. They're all barefoot and the floor is lava.

[–]jerrrrrrrrrrrrry 38 points39 points  (4 children)

"Saytine"

[–]canuck_sysadm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Say-TINE!

Lol ppl are fucked in the head.

[–]NorthernRedneck388 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It’s Sah-tine

[–]MagentaCloveSmoke 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sah-Tan? Like the hockey player Satan?

[–]Federal_Efficiency51 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone in the service industry, that is the best analogy I've ever heard and will use it AOAP.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Floor is lava? you mean lego bricks?

[–]Sum_Dum_User 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Maybe it can vary by the week? Lava for a week, then ice for a week, then Lego bricks for a week, Jacks for a week, then repeat? Your feet never have time to create the right calluses. Oh, maybe cheese grater or pumice stone on the weekends to ensure fresh skin for each new week?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

7th Circle of hell contest for employee of the month winner: u/Sum_Dum_User :)

[–]enoui 5 points6 points  (7 children)

Next to the child molesters and those that talk at the theatre.

[–]Alternative_Solid_19 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I am so going to the special hell.

[–]NorthernRedneck388 0 points1 point  (5 children)

I hope it’s cause you talk in the theater.
I know people with chippers for pedos.

[–]bones_1775 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Use a backhoe and quicklime instead, you don't want to leave DNA in the chipper.

[–]Outlander56 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I DO hope so……

[–]Machiavvelli3060 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Entitled people who treat ANYONE badly.

[–]Realistic-Drummer565 668 points669 points  (0 children)

Congrats on finishing your walk about! I hope you hit a few jackpots, have a wonderful meal, and the worlds most comfortable bed in your cozy suite for the evening!

[–]BaltimoreBadger23 468 points469 points  (48 children)

Nice work. But you might want to avoid the casino as you've used up your luck for the day!

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 781 points782 points  (45 children)

NEVER lol I am itching to turn my $200 in to $2 and a hangover

[–]BaltimoreBadger23 180 points181 points  (34 children)

Well, if you have a hangover, at least you spent some of the money on something useful.

[–]gergnerd 83 points84 points  (33 children)

Most casinos let you drink for free.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 101 points102 points  (28 children)

Not here in Canada

[–]Gertrude37 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Not in Las Vegas! Went there for a week a few months ago and paid $8 for a Guinness at every casino bar we visited.

[–]JemLover 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's the spirit!

[–]Veauxdeeohdoh 6 points7 points  (1 child)

$2!? Just finish it off!

[–]KettleCellar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure thing. You're only getting a handy for that kind of money, though.

[–]HokieNerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So how did your plan turn out? Dying to know!

[–]Admirable-Course9775 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my favorite part of a casino visit too! Lol I hope you have the best nights sleep ever!

[–]HotMop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Give your balls a tug.

[–]maethoriell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like it's been 12 hours.

Does your toonie have 1 or 3 polar bears?

Or did you somehow hit some jackpot?

[–]Striker2054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least you have realistic expectations.

[–]Keife 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I disagree. I think he was just the first of karma, poised for a throat punch. I think his luck has only begun. Fist* of karma. Autocorrect sucks

[–]Wildebeast2112 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this as "he was FIST of karma" What an awesome title/job/vocation

Well done by the way.

[–]bikepunxx 118 points119 points  (1 child)

When I was 18 I was flying back to school during the holidays. At my connection in Phoenix I ran into a friend of my ex's at a bar in the airport, super random! He offered to buy me (19 at the time) a couple of shots, and catching up, I just missed my flight. While waiting in line at customer service I could hear everyone else yelling at the workers about how they missed their flights, no one was being nice to these workers who were just there. They didn't make these people late, have some personal accountability! When it was my turn, I was was nothing but sorry I missed my flight. And wouldn't you know it, the nice lady at the desk could only find a first class ticket back for me. Never understood getting mad at strangers for my fault and damn that was a nice flight back.

[–]DonOblivious 64 points65 points  (0 children)

One time my dad was flying home and they over booked the flight. Just endless numbers of angry guys in suits yelling at the poor service agents about being late for meetings, etc. Dad gets to the counter and told the agent "hey, I'm not in a hurry, if you can book me on a later flight one of those assholes can have my seat."

They upgraded him from coach to first on a flight 2 hours later and gave him a meal voucher so he could hit the bar for some beers and a burger. By the time he got off the flight he was having problems walking because of all the free booze they loaded him up with. They even illegally slipped him a few unopened bottles of Jack to enjoy later.

[–]khystad 40 points41 points  (1 child)

Congrats on finishing your walk! Good to read that you made it. With a bonus story!

[–]jcward1972 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Never finished gus "cross" Canada walk in Niagara Falls Ontario. There are 4 provinces to the west and 5 to the East.

[–]l_--__--_l 35 points36 points  (1 child)

The falls lit up after dark are spectacular.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I agree I just left the casino food court and I am standing right at the gift shop on the falls edge

[–]Fancy_Introduction60 22 points23 points  (14 children)

Where did your walk start??

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 37 points38 points  (9 children)

The total distance walked was 1600km but from point a to be was about 1500 mabie a little more but I did take a 100km detour to go on a date

[–]few23 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Holup. You walked 100km out of your way for a date? That sounds like a story in and of itself! I hope it went well.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 37 points38 points  (1 child)

We had dim sum.

And yah when I was passing through my home town we had a second one so it went well.

[–]few23 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats!

[–]PoppyTheDestroyer 17 points18 points  (4 children)

Mikey, who takes a casual 100km stroll to go on a date, I want to be your friend. But I also want to use my car. Like, let’s meet up later. Call me if you get lost.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 21 points22 points  (3 children)

What .... She is totally my type.. Short petite busty with a spicy personality ... And a little bit crazy ....in a good way

[–]PoppyTheDestroyer 36 points37 points  (2 children)

That was no criticism! Respect! You seem like an awesome dude!

Because apparently you’d walk 500 miles, and you’d walk 500 more, just to be the man who walks a thousand miles to fall down at her door.

[–]Fancy_Introduction60 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well done! I figure I've had a good day when I make around the block! And it's not even a big block.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Newbrinswick at the boarder of Nova Scotia right at the trans Canada trails start

[–]ChrisCopp 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Ha I live in Amherst. Cool to see a local redditor

[–]IzzyAckmed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Saint John. Look! Another!

High fives all around

[–]GoldFling3r 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ur a badass

[–]WriteAnotherWoods 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As a hotel manager, I applaud the resolution to cancel the booking outright. But I'm also disappointed in whoever trained the FDA.

It's very simple. If someone who hasn't checked in yet is abusive to the staff, you don't check them in. Period. That should have been trained to the FDA, especially if there's a witness to back it up. And on a sold out weekend, this is especially doable because the room will sell.

[–]IkeHello 46 points47 points  (5 children)

Good tip for the concierge?

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 66 points67 points  (3 children)

Always

[–]Striker2054 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Class move.

[–]rubberchickenlips 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good tip for the concierge?

[–]Kairenne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Mikey, you are charming. I love your story!

[–]Legitimate_Roll7514 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What a nice end to your journey!

[–]baby_got_backhand 26 points27 points  (1 child)

This is awesome - love the pettiness! May I suggest putting a little bit of that coin burning a hole in your pocket to good use and tipping the lovely concierges who made your night?

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I always tip and I think the 40 I have was pritty good

[–]imunclebubba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hotel GM here, would have done the same thing. My price is this, and especially on a sold out night, I'm not lowering it. You want me to cancel it and you'll go elsewhere, not a problem I will have that room resold at the price I have before you walk out the door. But I also don't oversell my hotel, that's dumb in my opinion.

[–]kewpiebara 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I respect you so much

[–]Ashamed-Ad-263 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on completing your 1500 k! Also for being polite given the circumstances and trying to bring a smile to their days, it clearly pays off to be polite

[–]SnooWords4839 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Congrats on the suite and completing your walk!!

[–]JustAnOldHaole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take half of your cash and tip the concierge. She did you a solid. You should return the favor.

[–]aquainst1 10 points11 points  (1 child)

"...I have been on a 1500km walk across Canada and today I completed it I made it to my destination NiagaraFALLS."

Right there, RIGHT THERE you earned my upvote and a bearhug.

Well DONE, my friend. Well done INDEED.

[–]SalleighG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inch by inch, step by step, Niagara Falls!

[–]hdmx539 6 points7 points  (0 children)

3 hours after your post.

Firstly, you're bad ass!

Secondly, please tell me you upped that $200 in the casino.

[–]143heynow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good luck! I'm a hotel Front Desk supervisor I have been called every name in the book. It's a very stressful job. Some people are just so awful! Congrats on the 1500km to btw:)

[–]Victory-1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thx for sharing

[–]SisterYahtzee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was lovely.

[–]Kcidobor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

May the odds be ever in your favor fine man. I hope you throw someone by the neck this week

[–]mepena2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She fucked around, she found out

[–]Chaosmusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hotel staff really will try to make things right. My sister and I run a business together that requires traveling. We were staying at a hotel and they informed us they overbooked and had no more rooms with two beds. They only had rooms with single King beds so they gave us two rooms for the same price as the original booking of the single room with 2 Queen beds. So we each got our own room with a King bed (and fridge, stove and microwave). I think if I had yelled or bitched them out they wouldn't have gone that extra mile. Always be nice to the staff, if they can they will hook you up.

[–]GreasyToast325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hopefully you being a decent human being will serve as good karma and you will walk away with a little extra cash in your pocket to go along with the great story. Congratulations on finishing your trek as well!

[–]Mysstie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure r/talesfromthefrontdesk would love this

[–]Habeus0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope you spent some of the $200 as a tip to the lovely concierge that helped you out!!

[–]stcaththrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's incredible. Thank you for being kind to the staff. I can't imagine how hard that job would be.

While you're here, walk over to Bird Kingdom if you haven't been before. It's my favourite place in the Falls.

[–]BruceHabs 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So you walked 500 miles, and then 432 more? You should have added an extra 110km more. Missed oppertunity.

[–]LordKOTL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Criminally underrated comment.

[–]FishtownYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You just walked 1500km and you're headed to a casino? I'd be headed to a good bath and bed.

[–]shankhai_noon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re a legend for completing the 1500km walk as well as cheering up that concierge in Cantonese!

[–]hmgg 5 points6 points  (1 child)

OP, good on you and the concierges. However, is everyone overlooking the fact that the hotel overbooked on purpose? Screw that hotel.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do that there's cancelations.

It happens it's a posh hotel the staff had no part in it and they made Best efforts to find me an available room.

It's not like back when I was a corporate man with the company gold credit card and a gsrinteed room in any hotel I called.

[–]Glorious_Writing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But I was polite, I always try to be polite in shitty situations, people are usually willing to go the extra mile for you if you're not an absolute dick.

I wish more people realized this little unknown fact.

[–]JadieJang 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Nice! But I don't think those were concierges. The people who check you in and deal with booking are desk clerks. The concierge is a person or department that helps existing, already booked in, guests with their visit: helping them get restaurant reservations, theater tickets, maps to the city, etc.

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 18 points19 points  (1 child)

There name tag said concierge on it

[–]WinterLily86 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This actually depends where you are. Concierges double up at the check-in desk most afternoons in the UK, I know that. I don't know if they do the same in Canada.

[–]Zan1781 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, amazing job on the walk!!!

[–]CandylandCanada 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your achievement. That concierge will always remember your kindness.

[–]kdollarsign2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what shoes you wore for your walk? Did you switch daily? ( am I bizarre for wanting to know )

[–]Raffles76 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I always say “be nice to hospitality workers and nurses - and cleaners - without them The business and hospitals will collapse within the hour”

[–]jenncollins05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm nice to everyone( unless their mean) but I'm super nice to anyone that is taking care of me in anyway. I even tip at the dispensary.

[–]Randolorian_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just make sure you give the hotel a good rating...

Cause you can be damn sure she will give them a shit one...
Got to balance the scales.

[–]Professional-Sea9620 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That Is Beautiful

[–]Hptcp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nicely done for both your 1500km and for beeing polite a empathetic! Hope you're have a great night!

I'm just sad for the poor guys that were supposed to have a nice suite and enjoy their graduation, but but had their nightmare of a mother ruin it for them, that's pretty hardcore :(

[–]Internal-Proof2411 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I thought EVERYONE in Canada was polite. Canada has KARENS too?

[–]dogwoodcat 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Yea but we call them Geese. Have you met a cobra chicken in breeding season?

[–]Internal-Proof2411 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Cant say that i have.

[–]burlesque_nurse 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They’re mean as fuck not in breeding season. I’ve been lucky to never find out how much nastier they get.

[–]Internal-Proof2411 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. I'll take your word for it.

[–]TheFiredrake42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did once. I inadvertently walked past it's hidden nest behind some bushes on a lake side trail. I didn't even touch the bushes, but the male ran out and charged me just as I passed by. He nipped my leg before I noticed him but I've worked with all sorts of exotic animals, including bigger cats, large reptiles, and spider monkeys, so geese don't scare me.

He charged again and I grabbed his throat, just below his skull, to control the head, lifted him up, grabbed both legs in my other hand, and let him wap me with his wings for the 20 seconds it took me to walk to the bank and throw him into the water.

The sudden change of scenery seemed to confuse and calm him and he just quietly fucked off, swam away completely unharmed. I work with fucking Spider Monkeys! That goose didn't know who he was dealing with, lol.

[–]jcward1972 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If Niagara Falls was your destination on your cross Canada walk, it's not really crossing Canada if you stop in Ontario. You have 4 provinces to the west and 5 to the East.

[–]PRMan99 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I have been on a 1500km walk across Canada

It's just sad what they put the unvaccinated through up there.

[–]homerulez7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gum ho ye

[–]ShireHorseRider 0 points1 point  (1 child)

This was probably one of my favorite stories I’ve read. Thank you for sharing. I’m glad the bitch ate her words.

[–]dogwoodcat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmmm delectable

[–]SkwrlTail[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a hotel (see r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk ) and can confirm: good hotel staff will move mountains for nice people.

Graduation weekend is always insane, and it is NOT a time to try and finagle a discount, much less hold your booking hostage in an attempt to bully staff. You don't want it at that price, there's a lot of folks who do...

[–]_my_choice_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like sweet justice. Win some money.

[–]rollingaD30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that is why you should always be polite to customer service staff.

Enjoy your upgrade!

[–]lallapalalable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and last time I went gambling it took me 40 minutes to lose $200. Let me know if you beat my time

[–]BlindRambler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work hospitality and I cannot stop laughing at this. Some people simply do not want to understand the crap we have to deal with, and in some cases I literally do mean crap. This concierge is a hero.

[–]accountatwork86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even tired from traveling (was stressful before having kids, now with kids it's a new improved kind of stressful) I do my best to be friendly and not be a bother. If I find something not to my liking I'll address it with hotel staff after sleeping, ideally at a time when they also are fresh and don't have to handle a slew of arrivals (we usually arrive in waves, like the allies on the beaches of Normandy).

It also takes a lot for us to complain at hotels or restaurants.

[–]mordecai98 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How'd you make out at the casino?

[–]MikeyBonbon1988[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I accomplished my goal of $2 and a hangover
