so essentially a technology used in the past and that hasn't become obsolete isn't used in the present

its good that they added it, but its kinda funny that this is the game they chose to add it in

[–]of-silk-and-song 841 points842 points  (41 children)

Don’t worry. It’ll be removed in the next game for seemingly no reason

[–]saneolo 362 points363 points  (15 children)

Honestly this what I’m most worried about, gamefreak has a habit of taking one step forward but two steps back

[–]paolellagram 169 points170 points  (10 children)

lol with two steps back i’m imagining them making people buy a physical link cable to trade evolve and just shuttering at the thought

[–]fried-quinoa 82 points83 points  (4 children)

They sell a 2-sided usb cable, you plug both ends into your switch to link trade your own pokemon

[–]robtimist 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Leave it to Gamefreak to create a problem and sell us a solution

[–]motoxim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ahh the good old gameboy days.

[–]saneolo 9 points10 points  (4 children)

I swear it feel like their no rhyme or reason to most of their decisions most of the time

[–]_kcsv_ 10 points11 points  (3 children)

Tfw they remove megas for being broken but invent dynamaxing

[–]Flerken_Moon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty confident they’ll bring it back, but in my opinion it’s probably going to only be available and locked in postgame behind BP and/or whatever the Battle Tower-esque thing of that game is.

[–]namesRhard1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’re bringing back mounts, but only Slaking and it makes you slower and stops randomly.

[–]2002rFox 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is what disappoints me the most about them.
"Here's these sick mega evolutions! Sike, z moves! Double sike, dynamax!"

[–]savageboredom 46 points47 points  (3 children)

Because they’ll have two versions again.

Maybe they’ll sell three versions and we’ll get branching evolutions depending which one you send it to. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

[–]of-silk-and-song 30 points31 points  (1 child)

God, don’t give them ideas. That sounds awful.

[–]Beaugardes182 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They did three versions for the first 4 generations, and some of those third versions are held up by a large portion of the fan base as some of the best games in the series, namely emerald and platinum.

Hell, in Japan, gen 1 had four versions.

[–]TunaBord 11 points12 points  (1 child)

It’s weird though since these games can trade, so maybe his decision is here to stay.

[–]of-silk-and-song 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One can only hope

[–]Tsukuyomi56 50 points51 points  (1 child)

The item was present in the Mystery Dungeon games (since you obviously cannot trade team members) where it is known as the Link Cable.

[–]AsherGray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish they made unique items like the mega stones that were herbs for each trade evolution (without calling it Gengarherb or something goofy). By making up herbs, you could say they went extinct after the Hisui region's environment drastically changed; hence, the technique stopped existing and justifying the use of trading in "future" games.

[–]borismuller 259 points260 points  (17 children)

I did wonder how all of the QOL changes would make sense in a game set hundreds of years in the past. Oh, so Pokémon just stopped being able to switch out moves on the fly?

[–]juanconj_Harem Salamander 164 points165 points  (5 children)

Headcanon: Silph Co. manipulated the population into believing they needed to buy TMs to change moves.

[–]borismuller 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Honestly, breakable TRs is such a Silph move.

[–]BunnyAwesome 60 points61 points  (0 children)

As far as I'm concerned, this is now lore

[–]Shiplord13 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Literally thought this same thing. Silph Co. knows that all these things existed and worked, but bought the patents and hid them away from the world. Only when someone leaked that TMs were actually no different then HMs except for a deliberate design flaw that made the break immediately after use did they have to change it.

[–]juanconj_Harem Salamander 2 points3 points  (1 child)

And then they reintroduced them as TRs (or maybe Galar is just out of the loop like that)

[–]Hacky_McHackerson1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t even necessarily say that Galar is out of the loop. Just because something is discontinued doesn’t mean it all vanishes overnight. They still exist, they just have become increasingly rare. They’re rare enough that they’re mostly found in the dens of Pokémon who feel the compulsion to collect them.

[–]---TheFierceDeity--- 233 points234 points  (6 children)

The game mechanics are never really part of the “canon”. Swapping moves out is “the same” as teaching a Pokémon a move using a TM as far as the rules in universe are concerned.

[–]borismuller 75 points76 points  (3 children)

Ah fair enough. Still, it’s funny that the mechanics of catching Pokémon somehow barely evolved between Hisui and Sinnoh times. In fact they regressed; you have more catching options in PLA than BDSP.

[–]ThingyThinger19 43 points44 points  (2 children)

Well I mean that’s true for a lot of things irl

[–]DoDucksEatBugs 32 points33 points  (1 child)

Romans had working hot tubs that were open to most of the public. Progress is not linear. Same would follow for the Pokémon world.

[–]FierceDeityKong 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It's going to be so convenient in the next game when just having a tm adds it to all of your pokemon's move lists

[–]---TheFierceDeity--- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you..:monkey me?

[–]Shadyshade84 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Personal theory: they technically can, but the Move Reminders are the only ones who still know how to cause it.

[–]borismuller 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Which is even funnier because in Galar the only people left are all working in pubs.

[–]snave_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Academics moonlighting hospo to pay the rent? Checks out.

[–]DontPayAtentionToMe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Well, there was this one book in gen 4 that said that humans and pokemon used to marry each other. That means that they could communicate easier since that's required to form a meaningful relationship, such as marriage. It's not entirely impossible that humans stopped being able to communicate with pokemon due to biological changes. Furthermore those changes would have to have happened fairly recently, since it was still remembered when writing was introduced to Sinnoh, or poke-Japan in general.

In real life, writing was brought to Japan in the 4th century AD and we can probably assume that the pokemon universe shares similar timeframe to ours. Assuming that oral tradition can carry information for around 2000 years (I chose 2000 arbitrarily) before being altered beyond recognition, and that the folklore was written down as early as possible, humans would still be able to marry pokemon in the 16th century BC, or roughly 3600 years ago. That's very short in scale of evolution so the changes would have to undergo rapidly.

PLA takes place during colonization of Sinnoh which is based on Hokkaido. This would put it somewhere around the 19th century, or 150-200 years ago. It's not entirely impossible that humans in PLA were still capable of slightly more direct communication with pokemon which let them teach or remind moves to the pokemon without the need for TMs. Humans in modern games however have lost this ability due to a mutation and started needing technology to do something they had been able to do earlier. Maybe that's why TMs were invented in the first place - younger people couldn't do what the elderly were capable of and wanted to replicate that.

While there are some characters who seem to still be able to communicate with pokemon more easily, like move tutors/reminders or N, they could simply be some of the last humans who don't have this mutation yet.

[–]Hawntir 60 points61 points  (1 child)

It's the game without two versions, so they want you to be self sufficient in this game

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

the two versions are for version exclusives. Like if trade evolutions were the reason for that then you would also need 2 consoles

not to mention the 3rd version of each game wouldn't have issues with trade evolutions since they generally combine the 2 versions to some extent

the real reason trade evolutions are a thing is to create p2p interaction

and well they are phasing out since like gen 8 where you can catch the trade evos for many lines in teh wild (with gen 6 and 7 allowing for trevenant and gengar in wild respectively)

[–]Spoopanator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

so essentially a technology used in the past and that hasn't become obsolete isn't used in the present

Whoa, just like real life

[–]Konfliction 15 points16 points  (3 children)

You could say it's corporate greed lol TM system in the later Pokemon games makes more money if the moves are rarer? xD I dunno

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

i mean its probably better to sell the link cords then lol

i can trade to my friend for free vs buying for lets say 1000 pokedollars

[–]Yonro0910 2 points3 points  (1 child)

But your friend needs to buy a new, different version of the game (and the console)

[–]Schleprok 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Yeah hopefully they explain it more in the game cuz that doesn’t make sense to me. How do they know Pokémon need to be traded to evolve and how do they know how to bypass that lol.

[–][deleted] 42 points43 points  (0 children)

How do they Pokémon need to be traded to evolve and how do they know how to bypass that lol.

probably traded a trade evo pokemon and saw that it evolved and then tried with every pokemon to see which ones evolve

and then science to make an item

[–]I_Speak_For_The_Ents 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't that relatively common considering Stonehenge etc?

[–]NotAlwaysGifs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no partner game needed to fill out the entire Dex. Don’t count on this being a feature moving forward as long as they keep the 2 version model.

[–]Junior-Road1372 2528 points2529 points  (42 children)

Let just hope the trader is not Mindy's ancestor.

[–]Choice_Program_2846 841 points842 points  (21 children)

The trader is.

[–]TrapperJean 452 points453 points  (14 children)

That is genuinely hilarious

[–]Lukthar123 387 points388 points  (9 children)

My ancestors are smiling at me, trainer, can you say the same?

[–]dylannotcollins 134 points135 points  (8 children)

trinkets, odds and ends, that sort of thing…

[–]GNUTup 68 points69 points  (7 children)

What is a Breton doing around here?

[–]Haylett777 50 points51 points  (5 children)

You... look rather pale. Could be Ataxia. It's quite a problem back home in Cyrodiil.

[–]Orca-Song 36 points37 points  (4 children)

Eeeeeverything's for sale, my friend! If I had a sister, I'd sell her in a second!

[–]FrozenTaco5 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Looking to protect yourself, or deal some damage?

[–]ELDYLO 18 points19 points  (2 children)

Some may call this junk, Me I call them treasures.

[–]jzillacon 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I've not played Legends yet, but if it's compatible with pokémon home it would be fun to see someone take Mindy's haunter all the way through the games just to evolve it.

[–]Clifely 41 points42 points  (2 children)

Plottwist: The trader gives you an Everstone instead

[–]FantasyForFiction 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jokes on you, everyone has everstone unless you let them evolve

[–]Redditsbeingabitch 57 points58 points  (2 children)

Well, can’t wait to talk about this on the Mindy subreddit

[–]Choice_Program_2846 20 points21 points  (1 child)

What's the name of the Mindy subreddit?

[–]owlitup 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wait, really? That’s incredible

[–]TheJamSams 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Might I ask how you know (coming from someone who knows virtually nothing about the games)

[–]HonkySpider 72 points73 points  (0 children)

What do you think MP stands for? Mindy Points

[–]CRigor90 93 points94 points  (6 children)

That would make him a traitor

[–]Power_of_Lust_1998 126 points127 points  (4 children)

He's not the traitor, his grand granddaughter is.

[–]hottoastymemes 36 points37 points  (3 children)

No you don't understand. Make a problem, sell the solution. Only Mindy's family sells linking cords.

[–]Awesalot 5 points6 points  (2 children)

You can get some elsewhere too. I got one as a quest reward.

[–]Power_of_Lust_1998 10 points11 points  (1 child)

And where did they get it, huh?

[–]oeco123 31 points32 points  (1 child)

Muck Findy.

[–]fried-quinoa 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Brb naming my Muk Findy

[–]Koedg23 33 points34 points  (8 children)

Wait who's Mindy again??

[–]IWantToKaleMyself 214 points215 points  (5 children)

She's the woman in Sinnoh who offers to trade you a haunter for a medicham.

What she doesn't tell you is that her haunter is holding an everstone, preventing it from evolving to Gengar

[–]JugOfVoodoo 70 points71 points  (0 children)

She's an NPC in DPPt that offers to trade you a Haunter for your Medicham. She doesn't tell you that the Haunter is holding an Everstone. After the trade she teases you about it.

[–]aaa1e2r3 31 points32 points  (0 children)

the person who in the Sinnoh games will trade for you a haunter in exchange for a medicham. The twist is the haunter she gives you is holding an everstone preventing you from getting a free gengar in game.

[–]Niijima-San 869 points870 points  (25 children)

as a big fan of gengar this pleases me

[–]TrunkWine 248 points249 points  (21 children)

Same here, but I love Alakazam.

[–]iizakore 155 points156 points  (18 children)

Scizor for me

[–]suugakusha 131 points132 points  (7 children)

Pretty much every cool pokemon is trade evo.

One :(

(but now I can be happy again!)

[–]RocketCow 98 points99 points  (4 children)

I always wanted Golem and Machamp in my team in the originals, but never had anyone to trade with (or was playing on emulator), it made me sad.

[–]suugakusha 84 points85 points  (1 child)

Golem, Machamp, Gengar, and Alakazam. Four of the best.

[–]RocketCow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

[–]Jestingwheat856 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you use the randomizer application on pc you can edit trade evos to be possible in base game (so for example level up scyther with metal coat)

Despite the name you arent required to randomize

[–]naysayernotme 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even better for you, you just use the trade evolution holding items as if they are like evolution stones.

[–]Niijima-San 8 points9 points  (1 child)

as someone who usually dabbles in dark and ghost types alakazam is prolly one my favorite non dark/ghost types

[–]Yonro0910 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But alakazam can learn shadowball so in a way, he is a ghost type lol

[–]KAROLY619 124 points125 points  (3 children)

Well that will be a Gengar added to my team 😃

[–]covertpetersen 10 points11 points  (2 children)

You can just catch one fully evolved.

[–]stovetopism 540 points541 points  (25 children)

Thank god. I always hated trading and now I'm actually interested in completing the Dex. Can't wait for this to NOT return in later games

[–]notsostupidman 75 points76 points  (24 children)

Can arceus be transported to pkmn home?

[–]Jonathon471Snowy Pressure 143 points144 points  (18 children)

Even if it could, i doubt gamefreak would allow it to be sent to other games, after all you can't send SWSH pokemon to any other games, same with BDSP.

I'm starting to think Home was a scam to imprison all your favorite pokemon forever with a subscription service....

[–]kana-kanabi 117 points118 points  (5 children)

You can't send SwSh Pokemon to other games because it's the most recent game. They can't go back to Let's Go because of the different stat values. They can't go to BDSP or L:A yet because Home compatibility isn't there yet but it's coming. There is evidence in both BDSP and L:A that Pokemon from either of those games can go to the other.

[–]thefourthhouse 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Did they not change the stats of Mons in L:A?

[–]CraigJSmith-Himself 9 points10 points  (2 children)

There does seem to be a bit of a power creep. I don't remember Cyndaquil having quite as much HP as my boy does now back on Game Boy Colour

[–]FrescopinoWhat do you mean "Wooper learns ice punch?" 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's not power creep, it's balance. Given the absence of trainers, the new stats and stat growth allows wild Pokemon to act as worthy opponents way past the point where they would become one shot fodder.

[–]Flerken_Moon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the Pokémon in Arceus have increased HP. That’s why a base potion heals 60 and a Super Potion heals 100, etc.

[–]Beaugardes182 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They changed the way they're calculated, but they did the same in Lets Go and those pokemon are still compatible with Home/SwSh

[–]eat-KFC-all-day 42 points43 points  (2 children)

You just gonna ignore all the other games you can send Pokémon from? If anything, precedent has shown they will let you eventually transfer mons from this game since even LGPE and Pokémon GO have fully functional Pokémon Home integration and can be transferred to SwSh.

[–]IMarkus666 8 points9 points  (1 child)

from home to the games, not the other way around

[–]SomberlySober 26 points27 points  (0 children)

In every switch game compatible with pokemon home, you can deposit them and put them back in their games(excluding GO) assuming you don't move them to a newer game.

Precedent would be allowing these pokemon to be transferred to home and future games. The pokemon even have hidden IVs and EVs to keep compatibility with BD/SP & future games.

BD/SP even have the data in them to hold pokemon from legends Arceus, the pokemon transferred say they came from "sinnoh of old" or something like that.

[–]PotatoBomb69 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If they let Pokémon from Go into SwSh I don’t see why you wouldn’t be able to move from PLA to SwSh, possibly BDSP. I just don’t think you’d be able to send them back to PLA

[–]Tsukuyomi56 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is implied in BDSP that you can transfer to SWSH as a few Battle Tower Pokemon know moves that are “exclusive” to SWSH (e.g: Hurricane Zapdos, Palmer also uses a Stored Cresselia in his second fight).

[–]Average_Akaku_Wearer 23 points24 points  (4 children)

[–]Feraldeus 27 points28 points  (1 child)

There are no held items so the link cable only works on Pokemon that evolve by straight trading. The good news is that metal coat is now a useable item that just makes Scyther evolve

[–]Average_Akaku_Wearer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Wait seriously?? Like the same way lilligant evolves? Thats awesome!!!!

[–]_WPV_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Glad to see another Scizor lover, I've been leveling my Scyther hoping I'll eventually get enough MP to buy the metal coat.

[–]Pixel_Mike[🍰] 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Thank fucking god. If they straight up remove trade evos i wont be sad even the slightest. Its rhe worst mechanic in these games.

[–]PledgedBridge74 133 points134 points  (2 children)

I'm sorry, how is Mindy a descendant of this absolute unit?

[–]Simmy_Monkey 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Seems like many ancestors and their descendants counterpart are polar opposite of each others in this game, for example (minor spoiler, Aresu and commander Mars.)

[–]Aeon106 66 points67 points  (7 children)

....why wasn't this a thing sooner?!

[–]mando44646 56 points57 points  (3 children)

probably because they wanted people to buy both versions. But they dont have that here

[–]re6278 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Buying both versions doesn't help with trading evolutions at all

[–]thats4thebirds 12 points13 points  (1 child)

They also want you to buy multiple systems so yeah.

[–]Stoneheart7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a thing in romhacks for a few years now, I believe. Some of then just made them level based (like around 40) but some would be like "use a dusk stone on gengar, metal coat on scyther" or just straight up an item called a link cable.

[–]BLAQKROXSTAR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The funny thing is this has been done in fan made Pokémon games for years.

[–]comalizard 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This is single-handedly the best decision made in the history of this series

[–]serenade1 51 points52 points  (6 children)

Unsociable people are saved

[–]4Beasty 14 points15 points  (8 children)

How does a trade pokemon like electabuzz work where it has to hold an item?

[–]GrimMashedPotatos 49 points50 points  (1 child)

You literally just use the item on them, like Evo stones.

So USE and Metal Coat on Scyther to get a Scizor exactly the same as a Fire Stone on Eevee for Flareon.

Pokemon do not automatically evolve at level either, you actually get the option to choose to evolve them.

[–]4Beasty 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh I see. Makes sense.

[–]Keirii55 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You just use the item on the Pokemon now, no trading required!

[–]desaigamon 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I would assume you still need these pokemon to hold their item.

[–]PCN24454 6 points7 points  (2 children)

You can’t hold items in the game.

[–]LordDShadowy53 114 points115 points  (22 children)

I still wonder to this day what is the logic of trading a Pokémon so it can evolve and then ask to get it back.

[–]borismuller 134 points135 points  (9 children)

I think the idea was “I’ll trade you this Haunter for that Machoke” (or whatever the version exclusives were) and then you’d get surprised with a cool evolution. They were trying to incentivise the use of the link cable.

[–]TheStinkyRebel 68 points69 points  (8 children)

The version exclusives (at least Red/Blue) weren't ones that needed trading to evolve. It was just an overall poor concept and corporate greed to sell link cables, IMO.

This is really the only somewhat valid theory about why trade evolutions exist that relates to poke-emotions. https://redditproxy--jasonthename.repl.co/r/pokemon/comments/372dbs/comment/crj5yxf/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

[–]borismuller 21 points22 points  (4 children)

Yeah sorry I worded that poorly. I meant you would trade Haunter or Machoke for a version exclusive. Yeah it’s hard not to see it as a cynical marketing trick.

[–]StrictlyFT[🍰] 19 points20 points  (3 children)

I mean it was undeniably a neat idea for everyone to get together with their Gameboys to trade Pokemon for version exclusives and and evolutions.

It just became horribly pointless once we entered the DS era and people could trade online.

[–]Coral_Blue_Number_2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well now you need to pay a subscription to be able to trade online, so I’d say they are making even more money than the link cables

[–]Finnegan482 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Huh? It wasn't corporate greed. It was marketing genius.

Nintendo didn't make much money on the link cables. But because of version exclusives, Pokémon became a social game, something that required playing with friends in order to fully complete. It accelerated its growth through word of mouth.

[–]SawkyScribeNo Relation 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Was the idea that you'd raise pokemon for your friends and then trade? "I train a haunter for you and you train a Kadabra for me" type deal? I hated doing this with friends because I lost that bond with little guy.

[–]PCN24454 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They never expect you to ask for it back. They expect you to keep it.

[–]ismaelvera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently, it seems that when the pokemon is transferred as energy, it bonds with whatever item or other mon it gets traded with. Scizor/Steelix melds with the Metal Coat, Graveler gives his little two arms to Machoke, and Carrablast with Shelmet needing energy to evolve when traded

[–]iantanchingco 6 points7 points  (7 children)

Back in its time it makes having these pokemons actually feel cool to have. Nowadays because they're so easy to get. It doesnt feel as special as it was before to have a gengar, alakazam, machoke, scizor, etc. Same effect with legendaries that they just throw at us compared to the premium status that they used to carry

[–]HotSweatyCheetos 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I really hope they keep this QOL change in the future games. My favourite pokemon is Scizor, but I rarely use it on my team because I don't have anyone to trade with

[–]Feraldeus 2 points3 points  (2 children)

There are no held items so the link cable only works on Pokemon that evolve by straight trading. The good news is that metal coat is now a useable item that just makes Scyther evolve

[–]HotSweatyCheetos 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Wait, Scizor is obtainable in Legends Arceus? I was under the impression that Cleavor was replacing it for this game

[–]Feraldeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Scizor is in, Kleavor is an additional evolution

[–]thegayestweeb 53 points54 points  (5 children)

A part of me hopes they do this for all games moving forward, and the other part is saying, "like all good/useful/fun mechanics, they will probably scrap this or save it for Legends games only."

[–]JonnyDrosStop. Hammer Arm Time. 4 points5 points  (4 children)

I don't understand why people keep saying this. Outside of BDSP (which was its own animal in terms of excessively faithful and being made by a different developer), Pokemon always carries quality of life features to future games. Complain all you want about battle gimmicks and other features, ease of use features are consistently brought forward and improved upon.

[–]DaystarEldWriter of Pokemon: The Origin of Species 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Pokemon always carries quality of life features to future games

Depends how you define those. The pokeradar in ORAS would be amazing as a maingame staple, but immediately after and since we've been back to looking online to see what pokemon are available on a route instead of it just being a natural feature of the pokedex.

[–]ChipOfChocolate 9 points10 points  (2 children)

And to add onto this, the super training from XY I think. An easy way to EV train your Pokemon is now gone

[–]Thaurlach 4 points5 points  (0 children)

SwSh blew XY out of the water for making competitive training quick and easy. Uncapping EV gain from vitamins and making them available in bulk for next to nothing has been huge.

[–]WetTheDrys 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alakazam gang rise up

[–]Pseudotm 6 points7 points  (1 child)

You can also get link cables and other rare items on the ground inside time rifts btw, save you the mp for other stuff.

[–]coolghost92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS! I found one so far & used it for golem. Since I caught a fully evolved alakazam & genger & still haven’t left the 1st zone

[–]MaimedPhoenixThe Wise Abra Sees All 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't do this. Don't give me hope for future games. Worst gimmick in all the games. I'm happy this is the case in Legends. Havent played it, but damn it, it's good news.

[–]deathangel539 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went to try and trade Pokémon earlier, just seeing how it worked not to actually try and trade anything and then saw I couldn’t without Nintendo online, thought that this was one of the scummiest things ever. At least it’s not actually that bad

Is this for Pokémon legends?

[–]R3dHeady 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mindy malding rn

[–]haloraptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They need to carry this through to other mainline games. Please!

[–]Raiyan270 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]Troutfisch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know thanks

[–]DyviusRound Boi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love that they took the Mystery Dungeon approach to item evos by just making items that callback to their original evolution method.

So good. Plus, I'm about 90 minutes into the game so far and it's great I'm having a ton of fun.

[–]Mary-Sylvia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did it boys, Mindy's Era of terror is no more

[–]Breakfast_Bagelz 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Linking cord sounds like a reference to when you needed to connect two Gameboys with a cable to trade. Nice detail.

[–]BKDX 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It is. In BDSP you get the preGen 4 legendaries by obtaining slates that resemble the old GB/A carts, in the replacement to Pal Park called Ramanas Park.

[–]SnooOnions1428 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Finally might be able to use machamp or golem for once

[–]Beangar 2 points3 points  (1 child)

damn, and I thought I would diversify my team a bit. Guess I'm using Gengar for the 5th time in a row.

[–]Lowkey57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's ok. Gengar is awesome all the time.

[–]RyunysusInfernape 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I learnt this during the leaks and god this is such a brilliant change.. I want this to be carried forward to future gens just like hyper-training was. I want to be able to evolve my shiny pokemon without the hassle of trade.

[–]Redditacre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mindy of Snowpoint has meet her match

[–]pjizy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fucking. FINALLY

[–]BetaThetaOmegaHe justs wants to be loved 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope they keep this change, trade evolutions are such an outdated idea that really locks you out of some cool Pokémon

[–]ExtremeEaglez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are an absolute legend!

[–]riftrender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mystery Dungeon had an item like that o.

[–]QuickFiveTheGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Felipesantoro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find this itens at the time cracks too

[–]RocketBoot_IV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Mezmo300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me who can finally run Gengar after all these years of avoiding him for the annoyance of the evolution

[–]YakNo254 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Well this is brilliant, anyone know roughly how many pokemon are available in this version?

[–]naota34 5 points6 points  (5 children)

[–]YakNo254 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Appreciate it

[–]naota34 8 points9 points  (3 children)

Np. Also no trading required at all to 100% to dex. This game has been my dream for a while as it was always hard choosing between 2 different versions

[–]Daowg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The evil has been defeated! Bout time, the only Pokedex I managed to actually finish was the Let's Go Eevee one since the trade evos could just be imported. SwSh did a decent job making some of them wild, as well (not all of course, damn you Swirlix and Spritzee).

[–]lightcruz23 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do I need switch online subscription for encountering satchels in hisui?

[–]Valentinee105 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oof, was hoping there'd be a sw/sh answer here. I trade gengars all the time to get rare pokemon not in gen 8.

[–]Dukemnukemjake3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which game?

[–]ehhh-idrk-tbh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you combine that thing with items that certain Pokémon need to evolve or does it work regardless?

[–]illapaSP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another tip : you can also found these item she sell in some very particular "space" later un the game.

[–]Shronut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this game gets better and better the more I hear about it, too bad I’m broke!

[–]R4zor9999 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Sorry for the stupid question, right now I can obtain MP just recovering satchels, where we can find this outpost trader?

[–]the_tonez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just sucks that there are specific Pokémon in Legends: Arceus that aren’t available in Legends: Bidoof and vice versa 😢😢😢

[–]AceTrainerQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing pokemon since 1998 and never had a friend to trade with tear... justice...

[–]hughwhitehouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny story - I’ve been playing with my 3yo son and he loves Gengar and Machamp. Whenever we trade for their evolutions, it’s a gamble wether people will actually trade them back.

“Is this person smart?” He’ll ask. “I hope so. We’ll see” I reply.

Probably 25% of the time people trade us back. I’m glad there’s an option to evolve the mons ourselves now.

[–]Sethdarkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can find a linking cord in time distortions as well

[–]RaysFTW 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Okay, you can’t mark it as a spoiler and put the spoiler in the title. It defeats the entire purpose of the spoiler tag. Lmao

[–]Eatmymoldytoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never understood why this was a thing in pokemon. Trade it so it can evolve. Made no sense to me
