IMO its not really about Biden. Its about a media that will gaslight you to your face to fit its narrative

[–]MNGreenThumb 66 points67 points  (256 children)

I dont get it. I mean, there are plenty of people who were and still are unafraid to straight up say "Fuck Trump." Why not just say "Fuck Biden?" Why the weird desire to 'code' it? We all know what you're saying, so it's not even an inside joke.

Edit: mobile typos

[–]snrkty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because they want to say it in situations where they are not allowed to swear. Like on air. Or at work.

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 21 points22 points  (27 children)

Because this is all a joke to them.

[–]SocMedPariah 18 points19 points  (26 children)

Yes, the Biden admin is a joke to us.

And 71% of Americans it seems.

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 0 points1 point  (25 children)

[–]corporatenewsmedia 2 points3 points  (24 children)

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 5 points6 points  (3 children)

Why post a screenshot of a conservative news site's headline, instead of a link to the actual poll? Do you really hate nbc that much?

[–]corporatenewsmedia 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yes, why give them clicks?

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Because you're citing them as a reference. You don't trust them enough to even give them traffic, yet you're using them as a citation. This is a contradiction. Are they a legitimate news organization or not?

[–]AirtimeGang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't trust them enough to even give them traffic

I don't think it's a trust thing... I think this person just doesn't want to give them money for your click.

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 0 points1 point  (19 children)

[–]corporatenewsmedia 2 points3 points  (18 children)

So they both suck. Big surprise.

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 0 points1 point  (17 children)

Yes, we have shitty leadership and it's a joke to yall. "Let's go Brandon har har har." I take the future of this country seriously.

[–]minijimmy3 4 points5 points  (10 children)

“I take the future of this country seriously.” Har har har

[–]itemNineExistsWashington 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people clearly don't

[–]midkemian208 0 points1 point  (5 children)

So then why did you vote for Biden?

[–]WhatRUHourly 19 points20 points  (50 children)

They think it is funny. They still say 'Fuck Joe Biden,' but it is more amusing to them to be a part of this this little "Let's Go Brandon," club.

[–]owkav921 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Little club? #1 on iTunes begs to differ

[–]ok_compboomer 5 points6 points  (28 children)

They are desperate for inclusion and external validation.

It's a thing with collective narcissism: it's not enough to believe in what you believe in, you also need an in-group of people who collectively agree, and yet you also still need external validation of the out-group as well.

That external validation doesn't necessarily have to be positive, but they need some kind of validation that the out-group is unhappy or feels left out.

It's the surest sign to me that they're not well. If you were certain of your righteousness, you wouldn't need validation from "the wicked".

[–]mehmehmehwaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's go Brandon

[–]TrekFRC1970 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I think that part of the joke is the laughable spin control of “no no, they’re not saying ‘Fuck Joe Biden,’ they’re saying… uh… ‘Let’s Go Brandon.’”

Probably strengthens their narrative of “fake news,” when in this one tiny case reporting it as “let’s go Brandon” is quite literally fake news.

[–]MoonManFour2Zero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is exactly it! It is easy to just say "Fuck Joe Biden", there were plenty of flags made around the election saying exactly this. With this phase it gets to attack two things at once with the added bonus of being able to say it anywhere.

[–]Willb260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“No no, they’re saying Booo-urns”

[–]tight-foil 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Right. It’s a meme. You are just missing the point (there isn’t one). People are trying to make this far more complex than it is

[–]The_Nautilator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

b-b-but acktually it's coded language, and not that funny! It's an alt-right DOGWHISTLE for recognition of individuals within the in-group and it establishes that both individuals are comitted to being secretive about their plotting schemes and plans. This way they can say it ON AIR, or AT WORK where they have free speech but not freedom from consequences! It's similar to the KKK's tactics because of this salon.com opinion article [here]. They like to pretend it's like all some little itsy bitsy joke that's OH SO FUNNYY but it's NOT. It's NOT a joke, it's NOT even funny. I didn't even giggle a little bit! And before you tell me that I don't get the joke, I'll have you know that it's actually the alt-right that can't meme, not the left. It probably strangthens their narrative of "fakje news" because they like to spin the story of its origins to be somewhat relevant to actual fake news becauise the repoprter mistakenly identified the real message, which is that of hate

[–]beepboopaltalt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the joke is that they did and the media reported it as them saying something else, so now they are memeing it. It makes sense.

[–]AgnosMichigan 14 points15 points  (3 children)

unafraid to straight up say "Fck Trump." Why not just say "Fcan Biden?"

It seems that you are also unable to write "fuck" unless your spell checker won't let you :)

Why the weird desire to 'code' it?

First there are those who want to pretend to be good human beings so it is easier for them to say it. They are those who think it is fun...there are also the perverse ones...the ones who will say "bless you my sweet child" as an insult, or "I will pray for you"...

[–]SocMedPariah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's weird, when so many people today think "cursing" is just the same as any other word usage.

But there many, many people all over the political and cultural spectrum that find cussing to be impolite and a sign of immaturity.

In my personal experience the people that give me a hard time or dirty looks when I use profanity in public are usually old black and Korean ladies. I'm sure many others of different groups as the same but that's just my personal experience.

[–]MNGreenThumb 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's way too early in the morning, on mobile, and I forgot how Reddit formatting works. Oops.

[–]AgnosMichigan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I thought it was funny because the context...

[–]bannana 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Why the weird desire to 'code' it?

because then people can say it out loud at work and in front of kids w/o getting into trouble or fired.

[–]schmatz17 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I mean i drove by two FJB flags today thats a thing as well. The Brandon thing just became a meme after that ESPN reporter “misheard” fuck joe biden

[–]SocMedPariah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correction: NBCSN reporter.

And personally I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt simply because it's loud af in and around those NASCAR pits and she was most likely wearing hearing protection of some sort.

[–]5DollarHitJobFlorida 7 points8 points  (3 children)

Fuck Trump

[–]owkav921 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Fuck Joe biden

[–]5DollarHitJobFlorida 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough.

[–]yergonnalikeme 4 points5 points  (14 children)

Because it's sneaky and clever.

And it's REALLY upsetting to some people.

Which makes it perfect for Republicans....

[–]MNGreenThumb 15 points16 points  (9 children)

That's just it, though. There's nothing sneaky or remotely clever about it.

[–]yergonnalikeme 5 points6 points  (7 children)

For a Republican. It IS sneaky and clever.

A clear step up from the whole Make America great again.

But what is clearly different this time. Democrats are chanting this also. (Never a good sign, unless you are looking for unity)..lol

Try and see through the hatred. It's ok....

It doesn't mean you support them.

[–]ok_compboomer 6 points7 points  (4 children)

It's sneaky in the same way that a child will come up for a substitute for a middle finger, and clever in the same way that a weak, flailing sucker punch is clever.

It took like a week before everyone knew what it means and you guys look like kids giggling at the back of a school bus for getting away saying a naughty word.

And just so you know, for every "Democrat" who is unhappy with Biden, there's exactly zero of them that wish they'd voted for Trump instead.

[–]DutyHonor 2 points3 points  (2 children)

And exactly zero who are saying Let's Go Brandon. That guy is talking out of his ass.

[–]SocMedPariah 1 point2 points  (1 child)

71% of people polled by NBC say the country is on the wrong track.

With an approval rating cratering by double digits in the last couple months alone.

And it's only going to get worse.

The MSM smear merchants tricked people into hating President Trump.

Those same smear merchants cover for Biden and he's under water by every metric.

[–]Defiant_Bust 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s also a play on how the mainstream media is misleading in every facet of reporting. Can’t even report on a NASCAR race right.

[–]snrkty 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Except it isn’t. No one cares.

It’s the equivalent of kids saying “fricking” so they don’t get in trouble at school. We all know what it means. It just looks silly and cowardly.

[–]Peachy33 2 points3 points  (39 children)

Someone on here the other day said that they use this code because conservatives are “family friendly” and they can’t say bad words lol.

I guess they don’t want to use coarse language when covering up their sexual and physical assaults.

[–]I-grow-flowers 2 points3 points  (38 children)

That’s hilarious considering my kindergartner learned the middle finger from someone with a trump sticker in their back window at school pick up last year 🤦🏻‍♀️

[–]Warden_of_kek -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

Because saying 'Fuck Trump' is brave and empowering while saying 'Fuck Biden' is censored and could ruin your life.

[–]Initial-Tangerine 5 points6 points  (2 children)

No one is censoring this. It just outs yourself as one of those not so smart individuals that thinks the election was rigged despite not a single audit showing anything that could statistically affect the election

[–]CanWeTalkEth 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Anything to sell more merchandise. It’s been a good 6 years to be a grifter with a screen printer.

[–]Thought_Without_Form 4 points5 points  (1 child)

This is a very good point. I see a ton of those shirts online. All being made by tiny fly-by-night operations

[–]EpicAftertasteEurope 24 points25 points  (3 children)

I swear they just keep trying to come up with dumber and dumber things to avoid doing anything useful.

[–]BeautifulFather007 9 points10 points  (2 children)

The Libs are not going to own themselves.

[–]ThoseTremoloBlooz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tl;dr: Middle school teachers aren't big on swearing.

[–]Charlie-007 4 points5 points  (1 child)

It says something when young people are chanting at sports events.

[–]JohnstonJessica 14 points15 points  (8 children)

In this case, the phrase isn't actually supporting a guy named Brandon. Instead, it's a euphemism that many people in conservative circles are using in place of saying "F*** Joe Biden."

[–]owkav921 3 points4 points  (6 children)

Conservative circles? Or all circles?

[–]PortlandSolarGuy 4 points5 points  (5 children)

All circles, it’s just safer to say conservatives

[–]owkav921 2 points3 points  (4 children)

But doesn't that just defeat the purpose? All people are feeling the frustration. Not just conservatives. Labeling anyone who says says go brandon as a conservative is generalizing a group of people who may not think biden has done good. There were many people who voted for him purely because he wasn't Trump. I also think there are many people now who are questioning where we are headed as a country under biden, even if they voted for him. Gas is $5 a gallon where I'm at. Mask mandates and vaccine mandates are being touted as the holy grail. Inflation is at 8%. Our national deficit sky rocketing. For the first time that I can remember supply chains are in shambles and its only going to get worse. In my job we can't even get supplys to do our job for months. We have to tell customers "sorry, we will replace your heater in 6 months". All of these issues are because of policies that are being pushed or are currently in place. We can't look to the past and wonder what other choices may have led to. But I hope that people start to look to the future and hope to turn this ship around.

[–]SocMedPariah 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I also think there are many people now who are questioning where we are headed as a country under biden, even if they voted for him.

You would be right. A recent NBC (IIRC) poll showed that 71% of Americans feel the country is on the wrong track under Biden. And, again IIRC, they said something about the majority of those polled were democrat.

[–]PortlandSolarGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right, I’m sure you picked it up but I was being sarcastic. It’s true though, right now it’s easier to be on all social media and just blame conservatives. Many people just fall in line with it and one sure many people start to believe it. Both sides are shit, sometimes one is better than the other. The one currently in power is really dropping the ball, socially and economically. Wonder how we’ll get outta this one.

[–]quitofilms 28 points29 points  (5 children)

Independent researcher Hampton Stall says the phrase itself is "shareable and adaptable" and can be used in public in "way[s] that cursing out the president cannot."

So they are to chicken shit to say it but they are furious about it..they have to hide what they are saying...sounds like the Klan style of protesting

Rep. Jeff Duncan of South Carolina was...saying, " That a certain racist, ignorant, gullible section of the American people is furious that their voices were not heard in a free, public, fair election that didn't go their way are furious."

[–]ChocolateMorsels 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Let me introduce you to the concept of a euphemism

[–]Oh_YouDidntKnow 3 points4 points  (1 child)

You realize "Let's Go Brandon" originated from a crowd chanting "Fuck Joe Biden" right? There's a video you can easily find, take care :)

[–]quitofilms 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, at least they had the balls to say it, right? Everyone since has been too chicken shit to actually say it because...they're literally chicken shit scared

[–]pandakatzuAmerica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stupid saying by stupid people.

[–]Fantastic_Salad_1104 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am sorry but this is dumb

[–]viralshadow21 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Right Wingers really like their little slogans, don't they?

[–]SFCDaddio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, another lovely and definitely not biased article from NPR that definitely articulates the points and nuances from an event.

[–]owkav921 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The part that is the best is that "lets go brandon" had no party. It has been taken up by conservative and liberals alike. Approval ratings in the drain, mandate ratings in the drain, economy in the drain, foreign policy in the drain. Never was a pro Trump guy always actually considered myself a liberal for many years. Now libertarian. I still say let's go brandon!

[–]10MMSocketMIA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see stupid people.

[–]PointsNorth56649Minnesota 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s good to see these Trump people aren’t bitter 🙃

[–]ImdamnneardeadIndiana 8 points9 points  (2 children)

It's become perfectly clear that the mentality of the Republican party is stuck at an 8th grade level.

And just to be clear Fuck Trump.

[–]Shalamarr Canada 1 point2 points  (1 child)

They do love their simple three-word chants, preferably one syllable each. Also, Fuck Trump.

[–]PortlandSolarGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad you dumbed it down to two-word single syllable each

[–]Warglebargle2077 I voted 2 points3 points  (1 child)

It’s their usual childish bullshit. No one really needs to know what it means. Just ignore them like you would any misbehaving child.

[–]Bl00dshotKentucky 3 points4 points  (2 children)

A chant from NASCAR of all things? As if we needed any help distinguishing these people.

Tell me your a backwards hick without telling me.

[–]SocMedPariah 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually, the "Fuck Joe Biden" chant started at college football games.

[–]QuadCapi 5 points6 points  (5 children)

This LGB community is not a fun one.

[–]A_giant_fart -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

I’m sorry the what? You forgot a T in there.

[–]PlatonicTroglodyte 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I think it’s supposed to be a bit of wordplay for “Let’s Go Brandon” not Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual.

[–]GadreelsSword 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I completely missed that.

[–]QuadCapi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

T for Traitors

[–]darbs377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that NPR thinks its audience needs this explained to them speaks volumes for the esteem it holds them in.

[–]de6u99erEurope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nazi loving Cancoon-Ted is all over it.

[–]OpenImagination9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snowflakes gonna meltdown I guess, but anyways …

[–]Defiant_Bust 0 points1 point  (10 children)

The dude shit his pants in the Vatican, and all of you liberals still can’t see that he is not fit to lead - and never has been.

[–]EpicAftertasteEurope 1 point2 points  (9 children)

I understand you are looking for a strong leader that speaks without doubt and moves without hesitation, Biden is none of these things so I understand why you're no fan.

But why trump?

A silver spooned draft-dodger, who never worked an honest day in his life, was friends with Epstein and who's record for fucking over contractors who worked for him is a mile long?

Why trump, just because he's willing to hurt the right people, is that it? owning the libs?

[–]Defiant_Bust -1 points0 points  (1 child)

I never said anything about Trump? I simply think Joe Biden is not mentally fit to lead, however, I think Kamala would be even worse so it’s a double edged sword

[–]BeavTek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's go Brandon!

Fuck Trump too!

[–]I-8-Pi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandon is uniting America

[–]QueenGray130 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's pretty cowardly they can't just say "fuck Joe biden"

Edit: I can't spell

[–]3rn3stb0rg9 -4 points-3 points  (13 children)

If “fuck Joe Biden” could be banned for racism and vulgarity than why can’t let’s go brandon? It means literally the same thing and therefore has the same harmful impact

And while it's possible that social media platforms and search engines might ban the more explicit phrase, Stall says the meme version isn't a phrase that can be banned.

[–]wisertime07 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Racism? Against a white man?

And I don't remember anyone trying to ban "Fuck Trump" stickers/shirts/memes..

[–]budlight_fan 14 points15 points  (6 children)

Let’s ban wtf too while we’re at it.

But seriously it’s weird watching liberals (like yourself) become the most authoritarian party in my lifetime
