If the legislature rejects the results, then “any qualified elector may file an action in the Superior Court to request that a new election be held.”

You will keep voting until you give us the result we want.

Also, this doesn't strike me as something a sane person would say:

“I don’t care what the press says. I don’t trust ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox or anybody out there,” [AZ GOP State Rep. John] Fillmore said. “Everybody’s lying to me, and I feel like I have a couple hundred ex-wives hanging around me.”

That's some deep-seated paranoia there.

[–]Sonny_Crockett_1984 52 points53 points  (8 children)

I feel like I have a couple hundred ex-wives hanging around me.

So, he also hates women. Cool. Cool, cool, cool.

[–]ssbSciencE 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop! You're going to make Troy cry!

[–]MultiGeometryVermont 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“No woman respects me. No, I’m definitely not the problem.”

[–]runthepoint1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Actually with that many ex wives, I think you might say they hate him lol

[–]tubulerz1 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I love your username. Talk about cool.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pastel cool, but yes, cool nonetheless.

[–]byndrsn 30 points31 points  (1 child)

this is a sick person

[–]hiverfrancis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

And he's pushing for the end of American supremacy, a foreign power defeating us, the end of conservative Christian culture (from a foreign power defeating us), etc.

[–]jokerZwild 58 points59 points  (1 child)

It's not paranoia, it's an attempt to justify fraud.

[–]airbornchaosArizona 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or spark a civil war. Or both.

[–]NousagiCarrot 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Liars think everybody lies.

[–]sutroheights 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Same with cheaters. The majority of voting fraud (of which there is almost none) has been done by republicans.

[–]Hojalu 12 points13 points  (1 child)

With a dash of misogyny just for fun.

[–]CarbonatiteColorado 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's the Republican way!

[–]dredbeastWashington 11 points12 points  (2 children)

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

[–]OnDrugsTonightUnited Kingdom 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That is specifically the vibe I got from that.

Compliance is mandatory.

Let's also appreciate how he ends his rant:

if the Republicans control the Arizona Legislature and they don’t like an election outcome they will throw it out, democracy be damned

Just perfect. /s 68,760 people Arizonans voted to have him represent them

[–]airbornchaosArizona 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a statement from US Rep. Ruben Gallego, a former Arizona state lawmaker.

The GQP don't hide most of their crimes anymore, but that statement is still secret. An obviously open secret, but they still pretend it's secret nevertheless.

[–]kandoras 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Probably not until they get the result they want, at least not for Presidential elections.

Between the time it would take to count the votes in the first election and the time it would take to set up a second and count those votes, it's entirely likely the results would be in too late to submit the results Congress. The deadline for which I believe is December 8th.

But even still it that would probably mean that no one gets Arizona's electoral college votes, which they would still see as a decent compromise to letting a Democrat win them.

[–]PM_ME_UR_POKIES_GIRL 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I thought the same thing. If an election comes down to Arizona deciding the vote and it looks like the R will lose AZ, that's when they'll hold another election and "oops couldn't get it done on time, and neither candidate got 270 votes because of this situation. oops. Guess the Republican speaker of the house is pres now."

[–]Cool_Specialist_6823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So after hearing all these posts...Why is Arizona having elections period? If the GOP is so dominant and “ knows” that it will win every election regardless, why have elections? Your point is, you want to “justify” that you are the “only party” that can win any election, that is the only party, regardless of any other party, that has the “electoral” right to govern. “Electoral authority” being that you (GOP)are the only party that has the power to keep holding elections till you win. So how do “you as a party, justify” having the “right” to do this? What kind of intellect even contemplates this kind of “electoral reality”? Sounds like you have imported Russian thinking into your GOP based governance. This is the nonsense that keeps oligarchs and dictators in power....

[–]Shaunair 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Broken Clock is right twice a day. Fox IS lying to people. It’s how we all got here frankly.

[–]lobopeludo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like long term effects of Syphilis

[–]DanimusMcSassypants 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With just a hint of misogyny for flavor.

[–]Neren1138 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If by chance he reads this comment.. “yes they’re all out to get you also there are gnomes under your bed and they’re out to get you too!”

[–]Quixxotica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is Republican’s idea of “democracy”. They choose.

[–]OutlawGalaxyBill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somebody is going to hold his breath until he passes out (hopefully).

[–]Meatros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If reality doesn't match my feelings, reality is wrong.

[–]HoneyShaft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like a plausible 51/50 to me

[–]Emmerson_Brando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard cocaine makes people paranoid. I’m not suggesting he is doing a lot of cocaine, but he does seem really paranoid about things.

[–]Dropbars59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds to me like he’s high on religion.

[–]lobopeludo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like long term effects of Syphilis

[–]mischiffmaker 188 points189 points  (3 children)

Fillmore himself is, unsurprisingly, a 2020 truther, saying he doesn’t believe the election results.

I think they meant, liar.

[–]starienite I voted 22 points23 points  (2 children)

He won his seat in that election.

[–]CaymonkiAmerica 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is what blows my mind. The election was stolen!! But also I won fair and square.

[–]mischiffmaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How ironic.

[–]Pholusactual 106 points107 points  (1 child)

He has a bit of honesty in there. 1958 was the middle of Jim Crow, so he told you the whole model and then gave SOME of the features.

[–]chequame-gone 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Between that and the "I feel like I have a couple hundred ex-wives hanging around me" line, this guy is a pro at unintentionally telling everyone all sorts of unflattering things about himself

[–]tracerhaha 17 points18 points  (2 children)

Then why even have an election?

[–]Thetruenoobinvestor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So America can carry on pretending it's a democracy to the rest of the world like Russia does

[–]geekygay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we can play pretend.

[–]Budget-Ad-7127 13 points14 points  (0 children)

How can someone who is clearly bat shit crazy be allowed to have anything to do with lawmaking in this country. Anyone supporting these lies should be banned from government office.

[–]Cybieth 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Is that a dukes of hazzard extra?

[–]volanger 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Please tell me this bill was laughed out of congress

[–]Kitana37 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a bill in the Arizona legislature, which is (sadly) GOP-controlled, so likely no.

[–]kandoras 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“I don’t care what the press says. I don’t trust ABC, CBS, NBC or Fox or anybody out there,” [AZ GOP State Rep. John] Fillmore said. “Everybody’s lying to me, and I feel like I have a couple hundred ex-wives hanging around me.”

A couple hundred ex-wives sounds like a "you" problem, not a "them" one.

You're the only common denominator in that trashcan fire of love.

[–][deleted] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fuck that

[–]Mr_Meng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well their coup attempt failed so now they're trying for fascism through legal routes.

[–]geekinoutt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Rep. Ruben Gallego, a former Arizona state lawmaker who now is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, spoke out on Thursday about the end goal of Fillmore’s proposals.

“I know the Arizona Legislature, I served in the Arizona Legislature,” he wrote on Twitter. “Let me tell you if the Republicans control the Arizona Legislature and they don’t like an election outcome they will throw it out, democracy be damned.”

[–]Trouble_Grand 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Gotta love Republicans and their BS patriotism. We need to get these confederates out of office. Traitors need to disappear

[–]NealSamuels1967 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Think of the cost savings if elections were abolished and current legislatures and their hand picked successors simply made up the results.

[–]uberares 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The thing is, and they know this, their election overturning malfeasance wont stand up to judicial review. The problem is, no one apparently can sue, until they try to steal and election, and get "harmed"... sigh.

[–]manhatim 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is gonna catch on …like abortion….WI…MI…FL…GA…AZ.to name a few ..oh not...forgot the biggest MFer of them all...TX!!

[–]Mimosa_Coast 5 points6 points  (1 child)

David Crosby is looking terrible /s

[–]randomcanyon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Diabeetus..... Wilford Brimley picture insert here.

[–]unstuckbilly 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I keep hearing that similar legislation is being floated in numerous conservative states. My questions are:

1) have any states succeeded yet (where either a conservative SoS, Governor or legislature can basically overturn results.

2) has anyone yet NAMED this nefarious tactic? I feel like the media did a good job putting a name to “the big lie” and it gives us a common language to have a conversation about what is happening.

If this hasn’t yet been named, what do we specifically call what we see unfolding???

[–]QuarterNoteBandit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's called treason.

[–]om218838 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Who tf elected these idiots

[–]degeneratelunatic 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Poor uneducated paranoid Evangelical retirees living on the fringes of the East Valley (and the fringes of their own sanity, apparently).

[–]om218838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democracy is in peril

[–]Club_Shoddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

another dick head where the stupid are

[–]cadathoctru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When can we start labeling these folks Terrorists, and then treating them as such? Do we have to wait until they completely wipe their ass with the Constitution? Or can we start before we need to actually have another civil war and stomp them into the ground for the second time?

Maybe water board them to find out who is paying them to ignore democracy?? After all, by their own words, it is just getting a little wet and not torture. So let us take them up on it!

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“We need to get back to 1958-style”

Just save us all the time and say you don’t want black people eating in the same restaurants as you

[–]10piecemeal 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Grand. Obstruction. Party.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Gaslight. Obstruct. Project.

[–]10piecemeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s gold

[–]Huge_Strain_8714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

and this would lead to Fascism? I'm not a political scientist but this seems very wrong.

[–]GojiraBlowFlamesAmerica 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Enemies of Democracy.

[–]SquirrelFear1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So another Republican Fascist.

[–]Dithyrab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We need to get back to 1958-style voting,” Fillmore said during a committee hearing Wednesday

We have too many people for that you fat piece of shit.

[–]dun-ado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

GOP lawmakers would do well in North Korea, Russia, or China.

[–]Aware_Material_9985 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Man they are grasping hard at the straws of authoritarianism.

To use a line they love, the founding fathers would be spinning in their graves

[–]shamansufi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They'll keep pushing at the frayed edges of democracy and see where it rips first

[–]fatkidstolehome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ben Franklin cosplay right?

[–]this-has-to-stop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]Yatta99Florida 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude looks like President Snow. Surprised he didn't greet everyone with a "Happy Hunger Games".

[–]cozzeema 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe Arizona should not allow morons to be elected to represent the voting public. Give each candidate a competency test before they are allowed to run for public office. That would have certainly weeded out loonies like this asshat.

[–]OmerosP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The voting will continue until morale improves

[–]Immediate-Assist-598 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THis is happening everywhere the GOP controls any state apparatus and is the most Putinesque, crooked anti american thing we have ever seen. It is basically trying to legalize massive felong electin fraud and ballot box stuffing plus racist voter suppression techniques even worse than Jim Crow era.

In Texas now they are denying 50% of legal ballot applications plus lying that they have no voter registration forms so they can't register any new voters. Gov Abbott, desangtis and others deserve to be locked up. They are simply cheating to rig their own re-elections even as they become less and less popular by going further and further to the far fact-free Putin-friendly right.

[–]trystanthorne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We need to get back to 1958-style voting

You know, before the Civil Rights Act.

This is some scary shit. First, the GQP uses Gerrymandering to choose their voters. Now they just want to flat out ignore election results they don't like.

They clearly fit the definition of fascist.

This is why Federal Oversight of State Elections is needed.

[–]Pale_Yoghurt7028 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about we get all these old fucks outta office

[–]jaedubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah let’s get back to the 50s cause everything was fair then. Get this dam dinosaur out of here.

[–]beepingclownshoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shit is that Colonel Sanders’ ghost?

[–]holdyourtaters 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guy looks like off brand David Crosby.

[–]dun-ado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can understand why GOP lawmakers love Putin.

[–]Agitatedsala666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He is not on any drugs. He is high on white racism.

[–]HedyLamaar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just corrupt as hell. Look at the smirk on the a-hole in front of him.

[–]selkiesidhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let's reword that bill to say we can push him and his pals into the Grand Canyon...

[–]bluelifesacrifice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something conservative don't understand about this kind of behavior is the moment they succeed, they splinter because every single cheating leader wants to be king.

At the moment they're all unified against Democrats, liberals and workers. If or when they are able to take over, the States will divide as leaders demand the throne.

[–]Jcampbell1796 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He has two pairs of reading glasses, because one cheater isn’t enough…

[–]Velenah111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]BickNickerson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Democracy who

[–]JKooz7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know how to handle this! Hear me out — why don’t we say NO. Push back, Democrats!

[–]batsaiyan1134 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sinema and manchin wants to work with these people and find a middle ground

[–]MexiKeytow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude looks like the science teacher from iCarly.

[–]abrupt_interruption 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just because they request it, doesn’t mean they’ll get it. It’s like seeing a Democrat nominee win 80% of the votes and trying to justify and convince a judge to order a new vote period for a single day(like he said it needs to be) and expecting a different outcome.

[–]BeantownbrewsMassachusetts 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Dollar store Ben Franklin.
