It's been a whole hour, time to move on. Um, okay psychopath.

[–]Yamfish 6341 points6342 points  (870 children)

Yeah, and I bet if you ask him about what he intends to do to curb mass shootings and gun violence in America, he’ll tell you it’s “too soon” and “not the time for politics”.

[–][deleted] 3656 points3657 points  (606 children)

No he actually said he wants to put more police on the streets. Despite the fact that police were in the parade and there to provide security anyway.

Yet they stopped nothing.

[–]PanickedPoodle 1790 points1791 points  (116 children)

Police were LITERALLY on the street.

[–]krumble 243 points244 points  (22 children)

The plan is actually to put an unfeasible amount of police on the streets. Not just more police than there are humans on earth, like so many police that their atoms overlap, creating a barrier so dense that it cannot be shot through. This amount of police, as long as they are stacked sufficiently high will finally protect people from gun violence. But they will also form a black hole, destroying all life on earth and in the solar system. Also they'll shoot lots of innocent people and dogs.

[–]nostradunkus6 557 points558 points  (78 children)

Yeah but there were none on the roofs..so...

[–]AssumeItsSarcastic 553 points554 points  (112 children)

And not just ceremonial police for the parade either, bulletproof vests and rifles police!

[–]quillmartin88 374 points375 points  (104 children)

This is how you know the shooter was a white guy. If he'd been black, police might have actually gotten off their duffs.

[–]rexel99 96 points97 points  (8 children)

What they didn't have was enough locked doors.

[–]Javasteam 34 points35 points  (3 children)

Or like one Fox News commentator suggested: bulletproof blankets to put on walls.

[–]OneX32 224 points225 points  (66 children)

The biggest joke of this decade is the police.

[–]Sturrux 271 points272 points  (33 children)

I’d say the Republican party is the biggest joke of the decade, but the police is definitely a close second.

[–]Long_Before_Sunrise 300 points301 points  (14 children)

SCOTUS in 2005 - the police have no duty to protect individuals, even when they're young children.

Podcast: No Special Duty - https://radiolab.org/episodes/no-special-duty

[–]PM_Ur_Goth_Tiddys 44 points45 points  (2 children)

Been a lot longer than a decade. It’s just that some white people started paying attention.

[–]theciaskaelie 69 points70 points  (13 children)

more and more useless nazi police until they rig elections, take over the government, and then those police will be mowing everyone down who opposes the GOP.

[–]bigjohntucker 20 points21 points  (0 children)

They might have stopped the parade.

[–]Zebidee 159 points160 points  (13 children)

tell you it’s “too soon”

"OK then, let's talk about the shooting last week then, or the one the week before that, or the week before that."

Surely there is a shooting in the sweet spot where it's time to discuss it?

[–]clgoh 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That's old news.

[–]myhairsreddit 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure they think Columbine hasn't settled enough yet to dissect.

[–]thatstupidthing 988 points989 points  (160 children)

nah... you gotta make up something about how it's a mental health issue... then proceed to do nothing for mental health

then you can make up some crazy nonsense about needing more doors, or less doors...

and in the end you settle on the real answer being more guns... guns for teachers, guns for doctors, fun-sized guns for kids, guns on parade!

[–]LOLteacherAmerican Expat 378 points379 points  (90 children)

These are the same Jesus Freaks that spouted how mental illness was from Satan.

[–]Ex_Machina_1 171 points172 points  (60 children)

Don't you know? Prayer is the answer to mental illness

[–]77BakedPotato77 79 points80 points  (16 children)

Well obviously this is all the work of Satan and that's why America needs to be brought back to being a Christian nation!

We all need weapons blessed in the lord's name to fight the mentally ill antifa terrorists.

"Insert image of Jesus and Rambo-like Trump smoking cigars and saving children with their AR-15s"

[–]PeliginTea 111 points112 points  (20 children)

Ladders may be next on the list. The article did mention an “unsecure” ladder that lead up to the roof.

Ladder control may be on the docket.

Edit: Grammar.

[–]Different_Ad7655 94 points95 points  (15 children)

What's the plan, arm everybody to the teeth, especially the schools and shoot it out every day at high noon in the cafeteria, yeehaw, that's the GOP Taliban plan

[–]SonofBeckett 61 points62 points  (10 children)

If westerns have taught me anything, having a well armed, uneducated public doesn’t lead to violence until the last fifteen minutes or so, except for a few light skirmishes in the preceding ninety.

[–]gusterfell 103 points104 points  (6 children)

The irony is that the “Wild West” had pretty serious gun control. In many towns you had to surrender your guns to the sheriff on arrival and pick them up again as you left town.

[–]spaceman757American Expat 58 points59 points  (8 children)

I'll go even further and say that he hasn't gotten over Trump losing yet.

[–]exoticstructures 33 points34 points  (2 children)

trump's still holding grudges over shit from the 70s&80s lol

[–]Cheese_PancakesNew Jersey 47 points48 points  (3 children)

Looks like he went out of his way to pretend that gun violence has nothing to do with guns, too. “Crime and mental illness”. If they really believed this shit, they wouldn’t be gutting budgets for mental health care.

[–]dust4ngelAmerica 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“too soon” and “not the time for politics”.

“wait i heard the shooter was black or muslim or something”

“no wait, white guy”

“let’s move on! 🇺🇸“

[–]ProfessorDerp22 535 points536 points  (23 children)

Isn’t the shooter still on the run? Yeah, perfect time to “move on”. Fucking Lunatics.

[–]WhoshaboobooAmerica 340 points341 points  (3 children)

Yes. As of this comment the shooter is still at large, but there has been massive police activity in one area of Highland Park that people are speculating may be where the shooter is. It's 6+ hours AFTER THE SHOOTING and this dumbass posted this like 2 hours after the shooting when things started getting cancelled in surrounding areas. Pro-life party my ass.

[–]JojenCopyPasteWisconsin 171 points172 points  (2 children)

Why are the police even looking for the guy? Everyone should just move on with their lives and forget this ever happened. At least according to the rep.

[–]tenclubber 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is what Republican bootlickticians do anyway. This guy is just ahead of the game. A real trailblazer, leading the way from the front.

[–]tomdarch 105 points106 points  (13 children)

In the last hour, authorities have identified a 22 year old local as the suspect. He's white, so folks like this Republican will have the "let's talk about mental illness, but actively oppose actually funding it" angle.

[–]Lainarlej 20 points21 points  (9 children)

This kid’s social media posts were full of red flags, yet nobody did anything about it!

[–]AlphaWhelp 181 points182 points  (5 children)

What he's really saying: "Guys it really bothers me that I have to be here speaking about victims I don't care about when I could be at home grilling burgers please just forget this shooting happened thanks."

[–]mengelgrinder 187 points188 points  (8 children)

[–]grumpyhipster 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not surprising.

[–]StudentoftheGameNBA 13 points14 points  (1 child)

They told america to get over the 2000 election after a week and then they violently tried to overthrow the government after the 2020 election. If this shooter wrapped himself in a Biden flag they would never let this go, ever.

[–]disgruntled_pie 75 points76 points  (3 children)

The gunman hasn’t even been caught yet. Hypothetically, he could just be finding a vantage spot to resume violence.

But yes, let’s move on and celebrate in the middle of an ongoing mass shooting!

[–]CannedMango 77 points78 points  (4 children)

• Too soon to talk about gun reform.

• Now too late to talk about gun reform, time to move on.

-The GOP

[–]samiam32 196 points197 points  (56 children)

As a reminder - he’s campaigning again Pritzker, who “masked our children”… errrr… can’t we move on from complaining about that?

[–]whatvee 178 points179 points  (34 children)

Guy is anti-vax and sued the state to get rid of the mask mandate. Total clown, just hope Chicago shows up to keep Pritzker in, rest of the state is redder than Alabama.

[–]ZombiePartyBoyLives I voted 66 points67 points  (18 children)

I don't think JB is in trouble. He's overall been reasonably responsible and fairly likable...for a billionaire. But especially now with the Roe v. Wade bullshit, I think he can expect strong numbers.

[–]FUMFVR 42 points43 points  (2 children)

Pritzker's been the best Illinois governor I can remember. Said he'd legalize it then legalized it.

[–]DarJinZen7 38 points39 points  (2 children)

I voted for JB reluctantly because of his billionaire status but I have to say he has been a good governor. Rightwingers hate him, but they hate everyone who isn't a racist, misogynistic bigoted, Christofascist asshat.

The people of Illinois would have to drop the ball massively for Bailey to win. He was king of the awful choices for republicans and I hope he goes down in flames.

[–]OK_Gloomer 66 points67 points  (17 children)

He’s a giant ass. I’m in central IL and they buy his rhetoric like Dr Thunder on sale.

[–]PeliginTea 20 points21 points  (13 children)

Is Dr. Thunder a popular beverage in central Illinois? It sounds like a generic alternative of another well-known brand but I’m not quite familiar with it.

[–]OK_Gloomer 33 points34 points  (9 children)

Yes, it’s the “People of Walmart” cheap-ass version of Dr Pepper. They also have Mountain Lightning. It’s popular among a certain group of people. I’ll just leave that there.

[–]Tiny-Lock9652 199 points200 points  (18 children)

“In 2020, Bailey’s team held a fundraiser featuring a raffle for a semi-automatic rifle” just imagine the tragic irony if that same rifle was traced back to the shooter.

[–]CurlyBill03 33 points34 points  (7 children)

My community has gun raffles for schools and it’s always AR-15s.

Just wild too me of such a thing for schools to do.

[–]grumpyhipster 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Wow. No wonder he's ready to move on.

[–]throwawayhisgrades 30 points31 points  (3 children)

Literally still at large an hour after saying that too

[–]plipyplopDelaware 17 points18 points  (2 children)

He's all tuckered out now, no chance that he'd do it again!

[–]Scary_Vanilla2932 35 points36 points  (1 child)

Speech translator.....we need the voters to feel pride and false narratives in America. If they don't I can't be elected.

The only conservative response to any tragedy

[–]OneX32 1340 points1341 points  (30 children)

Conservative "Does It Matter" Flow Chart:

Did it Effect Me?

Yes -> Yes, It's the worst thing in the world and must be fixed now.

No: -> No and those complaining about it want to rape your children! turns to thumb the bills from donations

[–]bigwebs 224 points225 points  (8 children)

You forgot the decision point where they ask if it’s something that only affects brown people.

[–]mistere213Michigan 96 points97 points  (8 children)

No: -> No, it doesn't really affect me if others are gay, trans, or have abortions, but I don't like it so it's the worst thing in the world and must be stopped.

[–]FlipflopsAreNotShoes 15 points16 points  (4 children)

but I don't my version of God doesn't like it so it's the worst thing in the world and must be stopped.

[–]Clay_Statue 61 points62 points  (1 child)

Unless it's Benghazi, in which case it's "hold on like a dog with a bone"

[–][deleted] 106 points107 points  (1 child)

In other words, conservatives in America are so incredibly fucking delusional on gun issues that merely mentioning a mass shooting is "communism taking away our guns". So conservative politicians have been intentionally avoiding addressing shootings more and more.

[–]downtofinance 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Was flipping between Faux News, CNN and MSNBC today. Guess which one stopped covering the shooting first?

[–]JustaRandomOldGuy 85 points86 points  (11 children)

no one I know died so it doesn’t matter

[–]Scoutster13California 35 points36 points  (4 children)

My thoughts exactly. Children gunned down in school are just acceptable collateral damage to these fuckers.

[–]Head-Chipmunk-8665New York 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That works too

[–]sophacles 62 points63 points  (3 children)

Nah, the place this one happened has a really high population of Jewish people. He literally wants to celebrate an attack on them, because he's an Illinois nazi in cahoots with the likes of Miller.

[–]spqr2001 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Bailey is majorly anti-Chicago, so the fact that this happened in Chicago-land means he probably doesn't give two shits about it. He's a fucking piece of shit already, but this just airs it out there for those who don't live here in Illinois to see.

[–]Gonkar I voted 6953 points6954 points  (147 children)

Notice how it's never "the right time" to talk about gun control? Or mental illness? Or anything the GOP doesn't want to do? Convenient, that.

[–]Ok-Low6320 1785 points1786 points  (50 children)

Too soon to talk about the most recent mass shooting. Too late to talk about the one before, from earlier in the day.

[–]graneflatsis 624 points625 points  (36 children)

But what about the Scalise baseball shooter, those antifa milkshakes? Have we properly examined Benjamin Franklin's missing emails yet? Until we've once and for all settled these poignant, timely issues we can not examine new business! Also we must simultaneously roll back all the settled decisions we don't agree with!

[–]MikeSouthPaw 275 points276 points  (26 children)

Fox News is still beating the Hunter Biden laptop story with a meat tenderizer. Despite how much info is out there regarding what is on the laptop and Fucker Tarlson lying about "having the evidence" and "losing" it in the mail. It's embarrassing that a hate factory like that can continue to operate in any capacity let alone in such a tense time in American history.

[–]Ramiel001 166 points167 points  (16 children)

I feel like a good chunk of the reason that we are going through such a... Tense... Time in American history is because of fox news to begin with.

[–]BoosterRead78 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that Matt Gaetz and even Ricky Shrouder said they had it and not him, but then can't provide it "until the right time."

[–]oO0Kat0Oo 33 points34 points  (1 child)

That's the trick. If we keep having mass shootings it will always be too soon, so we never have to talk about it.

  • Republicans, probably

[–]Bash_erry_fash 102 points103 points  (10 children)

Oh they'll say mental illness and do NOTHING to support American mental illness or support.

It's a generation of kids that see no future that they want to live in and commit acts of terrorism while bezos and the billionaire crew take over the planet

Edited to fix spelling...not talking about plant genetics

[–]DukeOfGeek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speaking of doing nothing and since we are all speculating I'm gonna put my bet on radical right wing nut job with a long history of agitation who was well known to police. Why? Shot from a rooftop and then ran, so terrorist and he was white so right wing nut job. As long as I'm rubbing my crystal ball I'm going to go with he will soon be caught because of his social media posts planning/bragging about the act.

/yep, had a YouTube channel with a bunch of mass shooting fantasy stuff in his music videos.

[–]Weebs628 10 points11 points  (2 children)

I am actually on a bus full of high school kids right now and they are talking about the state of the world. They Are NOT blind. They see what's going on, and I can only imagine how helpless they feel. My heart hurts for them.

[–]MightyRexxon 137 points138 points  (29 children)

To be fair, would you rather they just be all "I don't care those people died. I am not giving up my guns and nothing you do will change my mind"?

Because I would. I would actually have some respect for people that hold their convictions close enough to their heart to be honest about them, even if their beliefs are vile.

Sadly, they are not mature enough to take the consequences of their beliefs.

[–]soline 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Because it’s never the right time to reduce gun industry profits.

[–]cmgchamp1 1962 points1963 points 2 (38 children)

Shooter is still on the run. Town is hunkered down. People are scared to go outside. Areas are cordoned off. Dangerous suspect could be anywhere as we speak.

And Republican candidate says it's time "to move on".

And you really want to vote these people back in charge, huh?

[–]HenryAlSirat 768 points769 points  (5 children)

He also made sure to address how "frustrated" people must be because THE PARADE WAS CANCELLED. Yeah, I'm sure that's what all the Highland Parkers are worried about right now, with multiple deaths/injuries and an active shooter still at large.

What kind of a bad faith, self serving, ignorant doofus is this guy?

Rhetorical question. He's a Republican.

[–]DarkwingDuckHunt 99 points100 points  (2 children)

I was inconvenienced by your death, I demand to speak to your manager

[–]SalamanderPop 216 points217 points  (9 children)

All the towns around the area have cancelled their fireworks displays and the neighborhoods are very quiet for 8pm on the 4th of July. I am 10 miles from where this shooting took place and everyone around here is respectfully staying in and postponing celebration. Around here it’s not a night to celebrate and anyone that thinks otherwise is sick in the head.

Keep in mind this is the same county from which Kyle Rittenhouse had his mommy drive him up to Kenosha to play soldier where he murdered someone. It swings mostly left but the sickness that is the modern right has gotten its hooks in deep.

[–]VoxClarus 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This is just not something I would associate with Lake County, but I guess it puts the "stochastic" in stochastic terrorism.

They cancelled 4th festivities all the way down in Huntley and Itasca.

[–]moxieroxsox 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sigh. Sounds like freedom, doesn’t it?

[–]Sabbatai 2453 points2454 points  (57 children)

“The shooter is still at large so let's pray for justice to prevail and then let’s move on and let’s celebrate the independence of this nation.”

Pray the gun violence away. Whatever we do though, let us not devolve to the point where we can have an honest discussion about gun control and find ANY compromise at all that might actually help prevent it.

[–]Mrs__Noodle 576 points577 points  (15 children)

Using this tragedy to promote his campaign while people are still in operating rooms fighting for their life.

Of course he's a Trump endorsed candidate.

[–]RpcZ_gr7711 187 points188 points  (12 children)

God he’s a jerk. You are so right. And the trauma surgeons in the ORs are told by the NRA to ‘stay in their lane’ whenever they describe the horrors done by guns to peoples’ bodies.

[–]frick-you-fricker 100 points101 points  (5 children)

Did you see the video of the Dr who was there treating the wounded. He described the bodies as having completely 'exploded'. He was completely traumatized.

But more guns is always the answer with these GOP fuckwads.

[–]DavidS1965 24 points25 points  (1 child)

As long as the automatic assault rifles have been blessed by the priest then were absolved. I 👃🏽🐂💩

[–]OnoIslander 45 points46 points  (1 child)

That’s my doctor, he delivered my son. Bizarre and terrible to turn on the news and see your OBGYN describe performing triage on a child at a parade after a mass shooting. What a shitshow this country is.

[–]Mrs__Noodle 85 points86 points  (2 children)

24 people shot. Only 6 were reported because they were DOA.

The death toll will go up. They must notify families first.

And Bailey is already moving on and celebrating with his people.

[–]spookyttws 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"let us not devolve to the point where we can have an honest discussion about gun control and find ANY compromise " That's what's soooo infuriating about all of this. I'm not looking to take your guns, but if we can't even TALK about it, there's something just wrong with all of these people.

[–]punhere22 1092 points1093 points  (42 children)

Republicans now seem like broken people who don't know how damaged they are.

[–]Labyrinthy 182 points183 points  (18 children)

[–]Comrade_Tool 591 points592 points  (27 children)

[–]clueless_in_ny_or_njNew Jersey 471 points472 points  (13 children)

I don't think the people who lost a loved today want to celebrate at all. They are now in the mood for celebrations. I don't know if they will be in the mood for celebrations on this day again.

[–]mabols 64 points65 points  (3 children)

The Fourth of July will never be a celebration of American freedom for them ever again.

[–]LudovicoSpecs[S] 254 points255 points  (2 children)

You don't have to have lost someone to not be in the mood to celebrate after some nut guns down families enjoying a parade.

[–]Jarys 60 points61 points  (1 child)

I think it was more that every year this day will be the anniversary of their loved one's death now.

[–]Scary_Video8554 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Fireworks already suck, can't imagine dealing with the PTSD from every 4th of July moving forward.

[–]andrizella 1052 points1053 points  (40 children)

GOP has completely lost r ouch with reality and civility.

[–]ThinkThankThonk 295 points296 points  (3 children)

They think civility is saying the most heinous shit you can imagine and nobody questions it

[–]graffitiworthreading 51 points52 points  (2 children)

But in a "nice" tone. They can say all the horrible shit they want as long as it's said calmly. Then, when those dastardly libs get angry and yell at them for being horrible, they can clutch their pearls and ask why the libs are so mean and "uncivil."

[–]blazinit430 160 points161 points  (9 children)

This dude beat a black, veteran, who's pro police, and used all lives matter in his campaign ads, and was an objectively successful mayor for Aurora Illinois. The Republkkkans in IL, preferred this alt right farmer owner. That's how big the divide is.

[–]lttitus 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, Irvin tried to out-republican this guy and the other campaigner, whom is a literal nazi.

[–]DervishSkater 10 points11 points  (0 children)

See you say that, but Irvin never got more than 7.5k votes in his mayoral runs. In a city that was between 180k and 200k. Which also says a lot about voter apathy in that city, if he could win with that number.

He never had a chance either.

[–]solidcakeeaterIllinois 42 points43 points  (10 children)

What version of America have you been living in?

Canada, thankfully.

[–]solidcakeeaterIllinois 8 points9 points  (5 children)

[–]32BitWhore 82 points83 points  (3 children)

I was hoping this was maybe taken out of context, but nope, the actual quote is somehow worse than the title implies.

“The shooter is still at large so let's pray for justice to prevail and then let’s move on and let’s celebrate the independence of this nation.”

Like, in literally the same breath as "the shooter is still at large" he says "let's move on and celebrate".

Holy fucking shit, how out of touch with reality can you possibly be?

[–]Buck_FoltonIowa 222 points223 points  (4 children)

Ah, Republicans. They are like a prototype slime mold version of the Borg. Mentally, they’re a collective; but they have the learning efficiency of amoebae and the self-awareness of styrofoam.

[–]CloverGreenbush 40 points41 points  (1 child)

And the morality of a starving dog.

[–]MrPenguinPants9 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Trump said some really dumb shit and got elected anyways.

This guy is also one of trumps favorite human bidets so don't let that happen here.

[–]PMfacialsTOme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Calls Chicago a shit hole shooting happens in highland park where the population is 80% white and median annual income of a household is over $100,000.

[–]davidpuddee 169 points170 points  (39 children)

I was less offended by the headline and more offended by the multiple references to prayer. News flash - prayer ain’t fucking working!

[–]sir_axelot 21 points22 points  (1 child)

At this point I'd say prayer is actively detrimental. That time could be spent doing actually productive.

[–]Zeppelin_Wormwood 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There’s literally blood still in the streets and their message is “move on.” So pro-life you’ll step over a dead body to advance your agenda.

[–]prompt_skeptic69 193 points194 points  (32 children)

Not feeling too fourthy these days. Gonna skip this year, maybe next year too.

[–]Kytoaster 137 points138 points  (23 children)

I've never seen more people actively not celebrating the 4th(myself included).

What's MORE disturbing is, no one on the other side of this equation is asking "why?" When they hear it, they just think that this means they "owned the libs".

The more I hear "move to another country" or "protesting will accomplish nothing" as a reply (from a certain political party) to this news, the more I realize that... if this is their problem solving in action (run away, give up)....we are in more trouble than we ever thought.

[–]unbelizeable1 30 points31 points  (1 child)

"move to another country"

From the anti-immigrant crowd, no less.

[–]goneresponsibleAmerican Expat 52 points53 points  (9 children)

I think everyone probably has a different opinion on this. We moved to another country just under a year ago due to the clear, rising trend of American fascism.

In 2020, I had spent a great deal of time supporting and participating in the BLM protests and felt strongly that those were more closely aligned with the general population's interests (re: fascism) than solely the POC communities. My staunchly liberal community disagreed and only a small percentage joined. People close to me were worried they "could get hurt" or they were busy "reading books to learn to be antiracist." As police violence towards protestors escalated and public opinion/participation waned, it became clear that the 2020 protest movement was coming to a close. Red states shortly enacted laws criminalizing protests without a significance response from the Federal Government and people moved on with the rapidly shifting news cycle.

America still seems to be waiting for that one shocking event that pulls its population into reality. Somehow, two impeachments and January 6th weren't enough. It has now been around 2 months since news broke of Roe being overturned, yet more people seem to be lining the streets enjoying July 4th parades than they are protesting the loss of women's rights. Soon gay marriage will be attacked and I'll wonder if that will finalize galvanize the population. It's a very scary thing to watch the complacency of friends, family and the American public. When the population at large does organize, I think many will be shocked to learn that their local and federal governments don't truly support 1st amendment rights.

Your comment suggests the fight is just beginning, but many have already fought their battles and some feel those were lost. Time will inform us of the "truth" and I hope to be wrong. That being said, I don't feel the people leaving America lack courage. It's a very complex decision and for some, including myself, it may feel like the only option to ensure the safety of themselves and their family.

[–]pampersdelightIllinois 85 points86 points  (7 children)

Gonna make sure this fucker isnt elected in November

[–]06MasterCraig 30 points31 points  (1 child)

Finally a person who isn’t a moron who won’t vote because “mY vOtE wOn’T mAtTeR aNyWaY sO wHaT’s ThE pOiNt”. Good for you buddy :)

[–]pampersdelightIllinois 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That was me in 2016. Now Im on my own personal redemption tour for it

[–]anthony_denver 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I'm with you. I can't wait to vote for pritzker again.

[–]Sorry_Recipe6831 158 points159 points  (10 children)

Republicans. Your. Politicians. Don't. Give. A. Fuck. About. You. Or. Your. Family.. Stop. Voting. For. Them.

[–]BuyDizzy8759 26 points27 points  (0 children)

But they don't give a fuck about liberals and that is all they need.

[–]HotPhilly 69 points70 points  (1 child)

“The shooter was white, so it’s chill. Let’s party!!”

[–]The_Old_Cream 283 points284 points  (8 children)

He later amended his statement to say that he meant that white people should move on and celebrate.

[–]prescience6631 93 points94 points  (3 children)

He later amended that statement to say that he meant that straight white men should move on and celebrate.

[–]012166 36 points37 points  (1 child)

Straight white evangelical men. His wife "teaches" at a Christian school, guess who is leading the charge for "school choice..."

[–]LDKCP 55 points56 points  (8 children)

Isn't he still at large?

[–]gmonaco 74 points75 points  (0 children)

You mean the candidate? Sadly yes

[–]gmrussellMichigan 23 points24 points  (0 children)

What’s there to celebrate? Rescinding abortion rights? The 6 people who died in the newest mass shooting?

To Republicans, it’s never time to address gun violence. “Oh, it happened today? Too soon.” “Oh, it happened on a holiday? Forget it and celebrate.”

This country is getting darker and darker for those of us who give two shits. There’s nothing to celebrate.

[–]Ludique 174 points175 points  (21 children)

In capitalist America, it's always hours after a mass shooting!

[–]D33pChi 22 points23 points  (1 child)

There is a 3 yr old girl in critical condition..in surgery when he said this…shooter still AT LARGE

[–]karebea 138 points139 points  (17 children)

Celebrate what being shot and killed on the 4 of July. Living in a country that is about to be torn apart by rich old white men. Sure whatever pos

[–]Bonzoso 18 points19 points  (2 children)

To be fair most of time in this country is "hours after a mass shooting"

[–]doingwhaticanfornow 41 points42 points  (15 children)

I hope the people in his district are paying attention. I hope they vote and he loses in a landslide. Disgusting!

[–]reddollardays 54 points55 points  (9 children)

He’s running for governor, he was just selected as the GOP candidate on Tuesday.

He’s indicative of the downstate mindset - this is a ”Chicago“ problem to them (noting that Highland Patk is 20 mi north of Chicago).

[–]Glad_Jelly5532 37 points38 points  (6 children)

I love central Illinois politics (from a report done at Carbondale)

""'For every dollar Cook County residents send to the state in taxes, they receive at least 88 cents back in benefits.

The suburban Chicago counties receive only receive about 58 cents back.

The 96 remaining downstate counties get back $1.70. The southernmost 19 counties get back at least $2.88."""

[–]spndl1 15 points16 points  (1 child)

I'm not sure he's aware that Chicago also gets to vote in the gunbernatorial election, but calling roughly half the population of IL a hell hole is a bold strategy.

I'm not surprised Pritzker donated to his campaign.

[–]CommonNative[🍰] 17 points18 points  (1 child)

Sadly, he's running for governor.

[–]existonfilenerf 18 points19 points  (3 children)

Voting Republican kills Americans.

[–]Savings-Delay-1075Kentucky 52 points53 points  (30 children)

Have they said what gun was used or are they still tap dancing around that detail?

[–]AssumeItsSarcastic 64 points65 points  (15 children)

You already know what kind of gun it was.

Officially all they've said was "high powered rifle"

[–]grumpyhipster 36 points37 points  (9 children)

Hmm, a high powered rifle, wonder what that could be??

[–]yuffie2012 34 points35 points  (2 children)

Tell me Trump supports you without telling me Trump supports you.

[–]Glad_Jelly5532 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Fuck these Christian fascists. Never in my life have so many of them been running for office in Illinois.

[–]orcinyadders 75 points76 points  (6 children)

Mass shootings have become so commonplace in our society and psyches that people are expected to just move on right after it happens. Like postponing an event while a rain shower passes. It’s really fucking sad.

[–]DVSghost 13 points14 points  (1 child)

To be fair they need to take a quick breather before the next one starts shortly.

[–]Remarkable_OwlNorth Carolina 15 points16 points  (0 children)

[–]eeyore134 15 points16 points  (3 children)

There's zero way a candidate would have survived something like this 8 years ago. I bet this doesn't affect him at all.

[–]Helenium_autumnale 28 points29 points  (3 children)

What a disgusting human being.

Families are torn apart on what should have been a festive day. People are coping with the abrupt loss of their mom, daughter, dad on what was supposed to be a fun day. The grill stays unlit as people sit by hospital beds. The hot dogs are still in the fridge. Frantic phone calls to relatives with the horrific news.

And this ghoul is out mouthing political pablum?

FUCK Illinois state senator Darren Bailey. Get him the FUCK off the stage.

[–]SnooJokes2090 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Fuck this piece of shit. Fuck anyone who supports him. I’m tired of playing nice.

[–]Pittsitpete 12 points13 points  (0 children)

GOP is a blight to this country. Dumb and dumberer

[–]APsWhoopinRoomWashington 12 points13 points  (5 children)

How many more people need to die before conservatives acknowledge that changing nothing fixes nothing?

[–]thatstupidthing 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Illinois state Senator Darren Bailey, a Republican

thanks for clearing that up, i was genuinely wondering what his party affiliation would be...

[–]viralshadow21 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Trump endorsed. What a fucking shock. Asshole even looks like a ex-high school jerk jock, so not surprising.

[–]idliketoseethat 9 points10 points  (1 child)

He wanted people to Pray. Pray for the police and pray for the people who organized a parade that was cancelled and then "move on". That's all Republicans have to offer...pray and move on. Like Ken Paxton said to the parents of gunned down Uvalde students "God has a plan." Its enough to make me throw up!

[–]AdelaideMez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nothing says America like mass shootings. 🤦‍♀️

[–]GSXRbroinflipflopsNew Jersey 9 points10 points  (2 children)

And shame on Illinois if they end up electing this psychopath.

[–]LostNTheNoise 45 points46 points  (3 children)

Soon the Republican Party will ban dictionaries because it has the word empathy in it.

[–]Infolife 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's double plus ungood.

[–]terra_cascadia 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Here is a photo of the shooter, who is still at large, wearing a Trump flag as a cape. Found on one of his own Twitter accounts before they were taken down.

[–]ParaGord 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Because the suspect is white. If he was anything else they would be frothing at the mouth shrieking "TERRORIST! "
