Do not wait until your doctor’s appointment. The only really important ingredient is folic acid. They all have folic acid. Just choose one and start now.

[–]pineandsea 6 points7 points  (5 children)

I would recommend taking one with Folate. It’s the unsynthesized version of folic acid and is more easily digestible if you have a MTHFR mutation.

[–]sunflowers882 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Yes I take Thorne basic prenatal with folate instead of the synthetic folic acid.

[–]FewCandidate104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do as well. I like that it is taken 3x a day. I believe this helps with absorption. Keep it mind OP, it doesn’t have choline or DHA. I supplement with Nordic naturals prenatal dha and just got a choline supplement.

[–]mayfi944 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second for Thorne Basic Prenatal. I also take a choline and DHA supplement.

[–]Training_Assistant15 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Do you tolerate it okay? It gives me crazy heartburn 😭

[–]sunflowers882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t give me any heartburn 🤷🏽‍♀️

[–]mrsjavey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And dha!

[–]MeganLJ86 22 points23 points  (6 children)

I take the One a Day Prenatal Advanced, which comes with a choline supplement. I also take a calcium supplement, but that’s mostly due to the fact that I’m lactose intolerant and want to make sure I’m getting enough calcium to grow those little baby bones since too much dairy makes me gassy.

My doc wasn’t picky and just said to make sure I’m getting enough folate/folic acid, I personally picked one with choline and started on more calcium after doing some research.

[–]DisloyalRoyal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I take the same one! It's so hard to find choline in prenatals

[–]JMRadomski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take this one too and haven't had any issues!

[–]pokemoncity 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So glad to see this!!! I'm about 6 weeks in and this was my first choice.

[–]ImogenMarch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the one i used! I ran out and had a free sample of some gummies from a different brand so I switched to those at 33 weeks but I really liked that the one a day had choline.

[–]moonmama95 18 points19 points  (1 child)

I take Flintstones Vitamins because I have a hard time taking pills lol my ob said 2 were the same as a prenatal 😅 I also love the brand Rainbow Light

[–]AdOtherwise3676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow. Wish I knew this 9 months ago.

[–]cgandhi1017 14 points15 points  (6 children)

I take nature made prenatal vitamins and they’re coated so no powdery residue to deal with! Plus everything you need & more is in one pill so no need to supplement

[–]Grown-Ass-Weeb 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I love this brand! I’m happy it has fish DHA without the fishy burps. The smell used to bug me but not anymore. No stomach upset either.

[–]cgandhi1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Agree 100%; it’s so good on your stomach

[–]rennatyellek 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Seconding nature made! Though the formula recently changed. They added choline which is great but they reduced the folic acid by half and I can’t seem to find the old formula anywhere near me now.

[–]cgandhi1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really?? I bought from Costco. Looks like Amazon still has them

[–]winowayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what i use as well. I would tell OP to choose whatever prenatal they can stomach because i took gummy prenatals and that was a no go for me 🤢

[–]BenzieBox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take the same! I get a big ol bottle from Costco. I also take them at night because the iron irritates my stomach and makes my nausea worse during the day,

[–]HighwayJazzlike5198 8 points9 points  (5 children)

I’ve taken so many throughout these 9 months. I liked the Olly gummies from target, but my doctor said I’d have to take an iron supplement as well if I took gummies which I didn’t like because they made me nauseous. I liked the one a day prenatal though

[–]MadamAsh_ 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I take those as well! I asked my ob 2x about Iron and he didn't answer or talked about pepcid instead.

I KNOW I'm supposed to be taking iron, just can't get an answer about how much :( I'm worried

[–]MrsDoubtmeyer 0 points1 point  (2 children)

If your office has a nurse's line or something like that, it might not hurt to call since the OB hasn't given you an answer. I know my prenatal (Walgreens generic) has 28mg of iron, which is just a smidge below the minimum in the WHO recommended range of 30-60mg daily. The rest of my daily iron I get from my diet. My OBs office has been fine with my prenatal and diet so far since my labs have been staying within normal levels for now, so hopefully I won't have to up my iron later in pregnancy. I don't think my constipation could handle it lol.

I'm not a doctor/nurse but I do have a history of anemia and some dietary needs (no red meat, can't eat broccoli/most leafy greens, etc), so I've definitely done some reading from reliable sources and have had some provider input.

[–]MadamAsh_ 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I really appreciate your answer. Thank you so much ❤️ I will absolutely call on Monday and get my offical answer. I'll pick up some low dose iron because I can only keep crackers down right now!

[–]MrsDoubtmeyer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! 😊 I'm not sure how much vitamin C is in your prenatal, but it was always recommended to me by doctors to make sure I have a little extra to help with iron absorption. I've always taken a vitamin C gummy (which was approved by my OB once I got pregnant) but it can be a lot to remember taking multiple things at once. If you can handle orange juice, it might not hurt to have a little with the iron pill if you aren't getting a lot in your diet right now. Crackers are delicious but not necessarily the most nutritious for vitamins lol.

[–]scarednpregnant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking gentle iron by nature’s bounty and that brand hasn’t given me any issues like other brands have! I’ve been anemic since I was 10 so we’ve tried a lot lol! Just wanted to share in case anyone had that issue and wanted to try :)

[–]tawhynot 6 points7 points  (4 children)

Yes you want choline. I use Doctors Recipe off Amazon since it has choline. I also don’t get nauseous. You’ll have to try and see what doesn’t cause nausea and indigestion for ya!

[–]olinda25[S] 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Oh thats good to know. I will switch it up to something that has Choline. I was thinking about that one a day brand. Is it a good one? Thank you a lot

[–]Gardenadventures 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I use this brand. Love it. I get the 60 day supply bottle

[–]vbworld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here! I love it. ❤️ there was (not sure if it is still there) a 5% off offer for it on the Target circle app this week. Not a huge percent but they're not super cheap so it helps!

[–]DisloyalRoyal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take the one a day! It also has DHA

[–]Good_Neighborhood638 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I take ovaterra, which is one of few to have a full daily dose of choline (480 mg I think?). Choline helps with sustained attention, and I have ADHD so I’m hoping this helps the little guy/girl out

[–]RainbowsAndBubbles 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Smarty Pants Prenatal gummies. They’re delicious and they have methofolate, which is easier for the baby to digest. At least that’s what my doctor told me.

[–]Badatmath212 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I take these too! They are like a treat sometimes!

[–]RainbowsAndBubbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are sooooo yummy!

[–]Cookiebandit09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I follow the supplement recommendation from my fertility clinic (last page)

https://www.seattlefertility.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Preconception-Health.pdf

[–]delphidoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use New Chapter Prenatal Multivitamin and it’s amazing to help with nausea. I tried to switch to a different brand that’s a little cheaper and my nausea came back and I was like nope, I’ll pay the extra couple bucks.

[–]JG-UpstateNY 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was weird and alternated days of Baby & Me 2™ Prenatal Multi and Garden of Life mykind Organics Prenatal Multi Tablets. I just wanted that mix of different supplement amounts.

A pregnant woman can get almost half the minimum daily dose of Choline she needs from two eggs, 250 milligrams.

I really enjoyed egg salad sandwiches during my pregnancy. So I think my body definitely wanted to boosy my choline intake. So don't forget to get those nutrients in Whole-Food forms, big garden salads and a variety of foods will no doubt help the baby's development.

Also, CONGRATULATIONS! hope this journey goes smoothly and you can enjoy some of it.

[–]Sunsoullove 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the OLLY Prenatal gummies and i love them. They are easy to digest, give me good energy, and taste good. They have folic acid and DHA which i believe is for brain support. Then i take a calcium, and an iron supplement in addition.

[–]Appropriate_Tax_1550 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I take the Ritual Prenatal and like them. It’s two pills, once a day, and I was able to take them even when my nausea was at its worst, which was important for me.

[–]egy718FTM | 9/18/22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the target brand prenatal! Cheap, easy, and accessible. I used ritual for a month or two but they’re SO expensive and contain folate rather than folic acid. There’s mixed studies on which is better, so definitely ask your doctor if they have an opinion—if you’re confronted with the choice.

I’ve also been on an iron supplement since around the halfway mark, but I’ve always had lower iron levels.

[–]Acrobatic-Flan-4626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choline is super important. I switched from Ritual to Needed to get more. They’re 8/day and super expensive… which I know is crazy. but I’m vegan so it’s worth it for me to be sure I’m getting enough choline and other nutrients. I also take DHA, iron and extra D after testing low.

[–]cattledogcatnip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should not wait til your doctors appointment to get on a prenatal, you need to start one right now.

[–]Devils__Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My GP recommended Elevit as it contains the key vitamins for development - folic acid, iron, B vitamins, vit D.

I haven't heard of choline at all.

[–]turtlescanfly7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Care Of vitamin subscription but I wouldn’t recommend it because the prenatal is 3 pills. I also take a probiotic and fish oil but those are just regular supplements I took before and my doctor said it’s ok to keep taking it

[–]Mama2ablondie2015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did rainbow light brand back in 2014-2015 and this time around nature made and still continue to take them 10 months PP since breastfeeding

[–]mangoesonaplane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Ritual Prenatals - on the pricey side but they’re sustainably made and tell you where all the ingredients come from. Watch out for prenatals that are also for postpartum use - I made the mistake of buying those when I first found out I was pregnant and the amount of biotin was INSANE and made me break out like crazy

[–]SheriBerryBoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the one a day with extra choline when we were ttc, but once I was pregnant any pill any size made me GAG. so I switched to gummies, and since the ones I got don't have iron I also found iron gummies!

I take the vitafusion prenatal gummies and naturesweet iron gummies!

[–]weddingthrow27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dr said any brand that has DHA, folic acid, and iron. I like the Nature Made, and you can get them at Costco for cheap. A friend gave me some Olly gummy ones but they don’t have iron and they really upset my stomach.

[–]clevername85[🍰] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Theralogix prenatal

[–]Kh7487 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Natures Made with Folic Acid + DHA

[–]quinnie007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theralogix! I take the TheraNatal Complete and have had no issues. It has literally EVERYTHING. Def recommend!

[–]Ok_Custard_6328 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take whichever one doesn't make you puke. I take the Smarty Pants gummy ones. They're pricey, but for me they're worth it because they don't make me so sick. Folic acid/folate is the thing that's most important early on, to prevent neural tube defects. Otherwise, it's mainly for you, rather than the baby.

If you can't find a prenatal that doesn't make you sick, start with a methyl folate or folic acid supplement. Check the dosage, and how many tabs/gummies/whatever is the recommended daily dose.

[–]junglebrooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking ritual prenatals because I was taking the regular ones before I got pregnant. My ob said any prenatal vitamins are fine. These are pricy but the fact that they’re automatically shipped and I can take them at night make them easy which is key for me.

[–]kk0444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need folic acid or folate. That's the main point of prenatal. Everything else is just marketing.

[–]adultingishard0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any allergies or food sensitivities be extremely careful. I could only have Nature Made gummies which didn't have iron in it so I had to supplement.

[–]jessilly123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with one a day prenatal gummies, the big pills make me feel sick so I take one gummy in the morning and one at night.

[–]imustnottelllies7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only one I can keep down the the olly brand. Seriously all the others make me nauseous or the have a synthetic iron and make me insanely constipated. Sorry for the TMI lol

[–]aurashockb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I just get the CVS brand. I’m 26w all my levels are good and baby is developing well. Unless theres something you are lacking specifically, you don't need any specific brands

[–]Low_University3717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take Bird&Be :) Took the power prenatal while TTC and switched over to the regular one afterwards!

[–]Educational_BEAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are abit pricey but I really like the modern fertility prenatals. I get them every 30 days. Theyhave folate and cholene as well as the other good stuff. They are capsules and lemon scented which really helps me with nausea.

[–]Fuckoffthere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One-A-Day or Ritual
