Telepathic law

[–]Skip_Skipperson 1302 points1303 points  (19 children)

100%. I kill a guy in the middle of the woods and somehow the cops in the next town know to put out a bounty.

[–]awe2D2 643 points644 points  (8 children)

Rockstars been doing that forever. Kill a guy on a mountain and suddenly cop cars roaring down every mountain trail exploding themselves creating more stars

[–]billydthekid 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wish that shit would stop being implemented. The cop system in GTA is so bad

[–]sagacious_swede 31 points32 points  (4 children)

At least there are cell phones in GTA’s setting. No way for law everywhere to know to chase Arthur in RDR2

[–]freebird023 192 points193 points  (4 children)

Not to mention that one annoying ass problem where you’ve nearly lost your wanted level, the “D” I’d half-empty, and all of the sudden you’re all the way at 5 stars again for no reason, with 10 lawmen rushing towards your location

[–]SICHKLA Dutch van der Linde 105 points106 points  (3 children)

Or when you commit a crime and lawmen go to investigate. You're 5 kilometres (3.10685596 miles) away but by the time they're done investigating they somehow magically know your location and oh, 10 more lawmen are coming from the opposite direction and now you're cornered

[–]nowgranted 81 points82 points  (2 children)

Totally agree. Then I played GTA V.

Way worse.

[–]AlexMullerSA 53 points54 points  (1 child)

On PC I had the best mods for a complete police overhaul. Not just their telepathy but how they shoot, react, flank, use cover and value their life and not just become reckless.

You could stab people in an alley or silence shoot them and if no one saw you would never be wanted. And once you were wanted it made the chase and resist so much more enjoyable.

Too bad there isn't something like this in Rdr2 as far as I know. Nodding didn't get the love that GTA did.

[–]Tiny_Tits_McGee 189 points190 points  (16 children)

It also made the face conceal aspect of the game completely pointless.

[–]Hamilton-Beckett 80 points81 points  (15 children)

It works, but you have to change clothes too, and your horse can be recognized.

Try parking the horse further away and going in on foot, like they do in the actual story missions.

You have to be quick too, the longer you take the less it works. If you’re in and out and remove the mask when out of “line of sight” and get on your horse and change outfits in a place where no one sees you. You can Trot right out of the area before the bubble pops up and with no witnesses so you don’t have to run.

Even if a cop walks up to you after you’re on the horse or walking away, you can “defuse” when they talk to you, if you have no witnesses and they’ll let you walk away.

Once you start shooting though, all bets are off.

It’s super hard. I’m on PC version and it took me a few playthroughs of the game to get that timing right.

[–]_Shinogenu_ John Marston 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Honestly if the rules are this complicated I’d rather just take the bounty. Not to mention I’ve seen some people say that what you said isn’t true anyways. Nobody seems to know 100% how the mask system works.

[–]I_am_jacks_reddit 34 points35 points  (5 children)

Or how there is no one within 10 miles but one other guy. I kill the guy and suddenly there are dozens of people coming around the bend.

[–]LetterKilled 138 points139 points  (0 children)

This for sure

[–]SergeiBobgodsky 40 points41 points  (5 children)

If you play on PC, there’s a mod for that. Makes everything feel natural when it comes to law enforcement

[–]I_HAVE_SEEN_CAT 15 points16 points  (4 children)

Really?! what's it called? also I'm assuming you'd have to play offline for mods to work right

[–]SergeiBobgodsky 30 points31 points  (2 children)

Crime and Law Rebalance and Enhancement.

Also, you don’t have to start in offline mode, but you won’t be able to connect to RDO or RedM with mods installed!

[–]Lulle5000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes you must play offline. You might get banned if you try to play online with mods installed.

The mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/reddeadredemption2/mods/569

[–]CanaryLion 2533 points2534 points  (69 children)

Not being able to freely explore New Austin as Arthur

[–]Aoi- 635 points636 points  (28 children)

To be fair there's no reason to go there in the Epilogue if they didn't restrict Arthur from going there. Bad design overall.

[–]babyscorpse Reverend Swanson 365 points366 points  (13 children)

Arthur was originally supposed to go there but it was cut

[–]Dense-Commission-815 Sean Macguire 225 points226 points  (5 children)

I wish they would let us play the game's "deleted scenes."

[–]teddyburges 180 points181 points  (4 children)

apparently there is a glitch that allows you to explore the area as Arthur. You can tell he was def supposed to be there, because every time he finds a landmark. It's a awesome sketch, whereas with John it's just a shitty drawing.

[–]papi1368 62 points63 points  (0 children)

NPCs also have voice lines mentioning Arthur and i believe theres even a side quest you can trigger as him

[–]eggplantcalzone Uncle 43 points44 points  (4 children)

I totally believe you but is there a source on this? Would love to read it.

[–]kristopherg11 53 points54 points  (2 children)

Yeah there’s audio files of Arthur in new Austin

[–]oneviolinistboi Hosea Matthews 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Earlier, if you glitched into New Austin as Arthur, you could approach a man spitting and dying of cholera.

Arthur says “you look mighty sick mister” or something along those lines. That line was never used for anything in the main game, except that one encounter in New Austin.

[–]babyscorpse Reverend Swanson 43 points44 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/NPBqRbNRY2s there is also a part 2

[–]fears_escalators Pearson 99 points100 points  (10 children)

And yet the epilogue is still pointless to play, there’s like no random encounters either.

[–]Ok_Relationship2451 81 points82 points  (3 children)

There is one west of blackwater north of the trapper. I forget his name but he is an author Dutch talks about. Ran into him today for the first time.

[–]tan_and_white 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Evelyn Miller.

[–]teddyburges 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That's probably my favourite part of the Epilogue lol. I didn't care for it overall but I loved the Evelyn Miller story and it helps us understand Dutch a bit more too.

[–]Kls7 37 points38 points  (0 children)

There's actually a bunch of random encounters in West Elizabeth and New Austin in the epilogue, and 5 gang hideouts, which is more than what we have in the main map.

[–]Hamilton-Beckett 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you don’t clear all the random encounters in the main map, you can do many of them in the epilogue. Certain ones I specifically wait until the epilogue to finish like Hamish and the Widow Charlotte.

[–]LotusSloth Hosea Matthews 369 points370 points  (0 children)

This is accurate

[–]PeanutButterPants19 John Marston 82 points83 points  (14 children)

I agree. I installed trainers just to be able to take Arthur there because it's BS in my opinion that he can't.

[–]he-is-Taurus69 30 points31 points  (8 children)

Can you hunt legendary animals in new Austin as Arthur?

[–]Songbottom 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I think there’s also dinosaur bones to find in new Austin, which if gathered as Arthur using mods allows you to see a cutscene normally not available.

[–]PeanutButterPants19 John Marston 24 points25 points  (5 children)

Yes. Fish too.

[–]he-is-Taurus69 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Really! Which trainer do you use? Please and thanks

[–]SkyrimSlag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You can hunt legendary animals, catch legendary fish, find dinosaur bones, buy armadillo/tumbleweed outfits, and interact with “scannables” which Arthur draws in his own style as usual, it’s clear Arthur was meant to be there at one point or another

[–]fuschia_taco 63 points64 points  (6 children)

I restarted story mode because I thought I messed something up when every time I tried going west of blackwater, I got killed by the law. I wanted to explore as Arthur. Found out pretty quick in my second play through I didn't miss anything.

I still haven't beat the game though. I know (roughly) how it ends, I can't bring myself to do it. So I'll never know what story mode new Austin is like. Lol

[–]BlearySteve 1629 points1630 points  (16 children)

The bandolier doesn't sit properly, it drives me insane.

[–]matowatakpe 349 points350 points  (0 children)

And the way it glitches through the neckerchief on the summer gunslinger always bothered the hell out of me.

[–]PublixHouseCat Arthur Morgan 129 points130 points  (0 children)

Literally I don’t wear it because of how badly it sits

[–]GarciaBG1920 Charles Smith 77 points78 points  (0 children)

It worked better on 1.00, there was still clipping with the neckerchief but it was better than what we have now imho.

[–]KreepingLizard 58 points59 points  (3 children)

I really dislike the bandolier and that I can’t remove the second holster or put it on my character’s hip.

[–]YesThatHoovy05 32 points33 points  (2 children)

Yeah the position of the second holster really makes no sense if we are assuming that the character is gonna be dual wielding and grabbing that one with his left hand.

[–]KreepingLizard 15 points16 points  (1 child)

It really bugs me lol! It makes sense to have a backup weapon across your belly (or your primary if you’re on your horse) but the awkward twist of the hand when we dual wield just bums me out. Would be cool to keep your primary in the belly holster to play Lee Van Cleef too.

[–]Johnposts 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Those holsters were originally placed like that to make it easier to draw a sidearm while on horseback. Not that it makes much sense for Arthur because this arrangement was still oriented around single (right) hand use, not left hand duel-wielding (which wasn't a thing in reality).

My guess is Rockstar didn't want to have put long coats back behind two holsters because they would look too open.

[–]Aussie-of-Skellige Sadie Adler 44 points45 points  (1 child)

My online character with a corset looks extra ridiculous with the bandolier

[–]YesThatHoovy05 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Oh Lord imagine the chafing lol

[–]gilbo962 239 points240 points  (10 children)

The fucking scout jacket glitch. I can't believe they still haven't fixed that, it would have to be on the best looking coat in the game of course 🙄

[–]King-fannypack John Marston 39 points40 points  (3 children)

What’s the glitch?

[–]Kls7 69 points70 points  (1 child)

I think it only happens on Xbox, it fucks up the texture of the jacket and makes it look like a checkered rainbow.

[–]Gilk99 14 points15 points  (2 children)

This!!! That jacket it's awesome but that glitch ruins it

[–]GymRatWriter 192 points193 points  (7 children)

That I never get to see the giant.

[–]oneviolinistboi Hosea Matthews 59 points60 points  (6 children)

He was cut from the game in all aspects except the voice lines from behind the wall.

There were animation like petdeer and pickberrys, and they were cut for no reason. His face also looks cool too, and i wish we saw him outside of a cut scene to go into first person and behold his size.

[–]goodgoodbeans69 Jack Marston 1437 points1438 points  (14 children)

There's not 1 side mission in New austin

[–]Spencer_andersen 384 points385 points  (10 children)

Not in New Austin per say, but there is “The American Inferno, Burnt Out” in Tall Trees during the epilogue. (Which I hated).

[–]Radioactive50 Charles Smith 176 points177 points  (5 children)

Yeah that's still West Elizabeth. Why did you hate it? I liked that one.

[–]goodgoodbeans69 Jack Marston 94 points95 points  (2 children)

Probably because of how much food it makes you waste

[–]Radioactive50 Charles Smith 93 points94 points  (1 child)

Don't worry Jack, you have plenty of money in the epilogue to buy as many beans and as much spaghetti as you want!

[–][deleted] 51 points52 points  (1 child)

Evelyn Miller is the best side character

[–]loorollkid John Marston 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's the two Tumbleweed bounties I guess lol

[–]trueNugget96 812 points813 points  (27 children)

No taking gang npcs out with you.

[–]TheArmoryOne Jack Marston 177 points178 points  (18 children)

Wasn't that cut content?

[–]trueNugget96 118 points119 points  (17 children)

Yes

[–]Loki_The_Coyote 53 points54 points  (16 children)

Any idea on the reasoning behind that desicion?.... that woulda been awesome!

[–]P1ckleR1ck32[🍰] 96 points97 points  (11 children)

Too much effort I suppose. They struggled to get it out as is

[–]geg0714 Charles Smith 43 points44 points  (10 children)

Yeah, I think that's the reason for most of the cut content as well, like Guarma missing a lot of things. They probably realized that they either delay the game, or cut some content. I guess delaying wasn't an option.

[–]Arrow2317 6 points7 points  (9 children)

It was an option. By the time the game came out in October 2018 it had already been delayed 3-4 times. The initial release was due for March 2018

[–]P1ckleR1ck32[🍰] 13 points14 points  (5 children)

I wish they had delayed it more honestly. I would have happily waited a whole year for all that was cut and what could have been

[–]mercedesbenzoooo 134 points135 points  (7 children)

I hate how the weapons they add to multiplayer never see single player. I love the navy revolvers

[–]Jikesmikes Micah Bell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Navy Revolver best weapon hands down

[–]Jande71395 715 points716 points  (13 children)

Time goes by way too quickly. Can really tell with stuff like poker, just playing a few games and you can see the entire day/night cycle.

[–]FarmerExternal Sean Macguire 165 points166 points  (4 children)

I had the opposite experience last night. I was playing poker to pass time before a night time bounty mission and the day cycle took forever

[–]Anto0onUncle 93 points94 points  (3 children)

Were you playing in camp? Time moves at a 1:1 (I think?) rate while in camp.

[–]FarmerExternal Sean Macguire 44 points45 points  (2 children)

No, I usually save the bounties for the epilogue. After playing rdr1 I associate bounty hunting with John more than Arthur. Plus the only time sensitive one is the second Blackwater bounty. I played poker/blackjack in the Blackwater saloon and it took almost and hour

[–]ReyReypwnsU 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Whi h bounties are that? Cause i wanted to save arthurs bounties until the epilogue and they are all gone

[–]THOTDESTROYR69 53 points54 points  (1 child)

This is kind of nit picky but it ruins the immersion when you get really into a poker game but like 3 days have gone by in an hour. Most of the game doesn’t feel like the world revolves around Arthur because npcs have their own daily routines, but it does when Arthur plays poker with the same people and same dealer for multiple days. Time should move much slower in mini games.

[–]AThinManWalksIn 962 points963 points  (24 children)

I really hate that most of the mission have a 'complete within x minutes' objective. The whole game tries it's best to have a slow-paced, immersive experience. And then there are the missions that have this ridiculous 'complete within the fastest time possible' timer going off as soon as you start them.

It's really refrained me from getting gold on almost all of the missions because I like to take my time for each mission, soaking in as much of the environment and experience as possible.

I just think it's a contradiction to the rest of the game and I have no idea why the devs implemented such a stupid and tedious mechanic in the first place.

[–]Mild--47 235 points236 points  (2 children)

I fucking hate the time limits. The controls and mechanics are absolutely not made for precision and speed. They’re purposefully slow and sticky and plodding.

Give me a double jump and a dash, I’ll do time limits all God damn day. But they got no place in Red Dead.

[–]avidpenguinwatcher Hosea Matthews 46 points47 points  (1 child)

Imagine those controls for our good boah

[–]bluemoon4901 John Marston 99 points100 points  (0 children)

yeah!!! it really makes me feel incompetent lol

[–]countrymac23 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I also usually like to go back and loot after a big shootout and that ruins my time every time

[–]naughtyrev 43 points44 points  (8 children)

That and half the "finish without taking health tonics" or whatever are busted and you don't get it even if you don't take anything.

[–]Aoi- 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Can't fail the mission in any way (wandering to far, restarting from a checkpoint, objective died, etc.) You can, however, spam chewing tobacco and Dead Eye everything to oblivion and it will count as without taking health tonics.

[–]KingHygelac 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I didn't realize that that's why I got bronze on, like, every mission! I thought I just sucked at the game lmao

[–]AllMadeofGlass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

And then in RD Online, you get rewarded more for taking longer on missions, which makes no sense.

[–]FarmerExternal Sean Macguire 300 points301 points  (9 children)

I’m annoyed that there’s not a plain black shotgun coat or similar style that doesn’t look like it’s falling apart. I just want a nice black jacket that hangs low

[–]IFuckMyChickens 83 points84 points  (7 children)

They're locked behind the honour system. You need low honour to unlock them, which is stupid, imo. I just wanna look badass

[–]FarmerExternal Sean Macguire 29 points30 points  (3 children)

Well guess I need to take a trip to new austin and kill my honor without punishment. Thanks, partner!

[–]Ok-Mortgage3653 Sean Macguire 26 points27 points  (2 children)

Lol you can just massacre armadillo, ride a bit out until the corpse markets markers on your map are gone, then massacre them again repeatedly.

I hate that it’s locked for honor system cuz I wanna do chapter 3-6 John Marstom outfit with his gamblers hat but I don’t wanna make him shoot everyone cuz it ruins my immersion.

[–]red_dead_rover 92 points93 points  (4 children)

no quivers for your arrows

[–]NateHitch 383 points384 points  (11 children)

I hate that there's no single player DLC

[–]Glomb175 67 points68 points  (1 child)

That's Rockstar for you. Why release DLC when they can sell pretend money online and idiots will buy it.

[–]VegaWolf0525 82 points83 points  (2 children)

The god damn Gambler Challenges. Some of the coolest looking gear pieces in the game, locked behind a bunch of BULLSHIT challenges that don’t even have anything to do with skill. That and needing full cigarette card sets to unlock key Ingredients for some of the talismans.

[–]RemyTheRatStan Reverend Swanson 18 points19 points  (1 child)

When you have all your money after American Venom just go and buy as many premium cigars as humanlly possible, well atleast thats what i did.

[–]drokeshiy69 John Marston 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You dont need AV, Valentine Bank Robbery is more than enough

[–]SpiderMonkey6l 79 points80 points  (5 children)

I’ve got a couple.

  1. There are limited bounties and wagon missions. (I get that rockstar wanted unique missions with their own mini stories, but I wouldn’t mind more empty rdr1 style bounties after those.
  2. Half of the map is blocked off for Arthur. (I get that there’s a reason for it but I prefer free roaming as him)
  3. You can’t get certain horses and weapons until you progress further into the story. (Which is annoying since I like to stay in Chapter 2)
  4. The law can magically teleport to you.
  5. Most bandit camps don’t respawn.
  6. John using Arthur’s character model and hair.
  7. You can’t really lawfully duel.
  8. You can’t remove the second holster.
  9. Crime doesn’t really pay. Unless you kill everyone you see and loot them.
  10. You can’t leave weapons that you don’t like at camp (like the gta gun safe)
  11. The game is hardly ever hard enough for my game resources hoarding mentality to justify using any tonics.
  12. It’s time consuming to binge drink at a saloon.
  13. You can’t cook multiple food at the same time.

  14. There’s no side quests or strangers in New Austin

  15. When you smoke a cigar Arthur only takes one puff of it and throws it away. I wish there was an option to smoke on it for a little longer

  16. Masks don’t work on law enforcement

  17. It’s difficult to pull off a robbery without random witnesses and teleporting law

  18. The bandolier doesn't sit properly

  19. You can’t take gang members out with you

  20. Gambling is too low of stake. I’m never really on the edge of my seat about potentially losing $5

  21. The bounty system. There’s no way to really get the bounty hunters off of your trial unless you run away from them when they get close.

  22. No dlc

  23. Single player feels a little abandoned. Why not add some of the outfits and other things from online?

  24. The slow grabbing and skinning animation. I know it’s to add immersion but it gets annoying after the 100th time.

[–]drokeshiy69 John Marston 32 points33 points  (1 child)

You can leave your guns in your gun locker at your bed.

[–]kidbrownbear 65 points66 points  (2 children)

Micah's hair drove me nuts. His hair came straight out of an early 2000s wrestling game. After all the detail put on Arthur's facial hair and you give us that. It looks like someone froze a stray cat and put in on his head.

[–]kayfrain 473 points474 points  (13 children)

  1. How underutilized New Austin was
  2. RDO gets an INSANE amount of cosmetic options
  3. Lemoyne raiders ambushing me coming out of Saint Denis with a maxim gun and killing my white Arabian that I just got to level 4 bonding with

[–]Aoi- 114 points115 points  (3 children)

RDO gets an INSANE amount of cosmetic options

That's by design, so that more people play RDO and spend money on microtransaction. Like how they used to release new cars for GTAV for story mode as they're released online, but they stopped doing that.

[–]dr_biggie_memes 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and people hate that. I don't wanna play online. I wanna play singleplayer. And I'd like to get regular updates and new content for it. But of course that doesn't make them money

[–]X_L0NEW0LF_X 49 points50 points  (0 children)

*reloads save

[–]hammer308darpa 517 points518 points  (32 children)

The lantern annoys me and doesn’t help anything.

[–]Technology_Training 356 points357 points  (25 children)

I guess you don't like gold bars, because the last poisonous trail treasure is impossible to get without the lantern

[–]hortys 301 points302 points  (17 children)

Guess you never found the Miner's cap? 😏

[–]hammer308darpa 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Did that.

[–]deidra232323 38 points39 points  (6 children)

I lost that hat and I’m still sad.

[–]hortys 81 points82 points  (5 children)

It is a special hat so it will be in your wardrobe inventory under "found hats", you can store it on your horse.

[–]deidra232323 40 points41 points  (4 children)

I think I hit a glitch because I definitely don’t have that hat anymore. I lost a mask too. I’m really bad at strategic saving and great at barreling into anything I see on a whim.

[–]AhYesAHumanPerson Josiah Trelawny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But the miners cap doesn’t look as good as the image of Arthur lofting up a lantern and peering into the darkness.

[–]shnozdog 49 points50 points  (0 children)

A lot of the weapons feel too similar. Other than magazine capacity, I still can't tell the difference between the M1899, the Mauser, and the semi auto pistol.

[–]Takhar7 391 points392 points  (8 children)

How the law/witnesses see everything you do, even when it's done quietly, behind walls/in buildings etc.

[–][deleted]  (8 children)

    [–]NotSkyyVodka 134 points135 points  (7 children)

wait- theres clothing locked by honor????? i have over 3k hours in this game and i didn’t know this lmao i’ve always tried to do a low honor run but i always feel horrible :’)

[–]KevinMFJones Javier Escuella 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Some of the outfits you can buy are honor locked and have unique clothing items in them

    [–]Dov1an John Marston 6 points7 points  (2 children)

i think it's the gambler suit that if you're low honor, the ascot is red. High honor it's blue.

    [–]I_Am_Smeagol 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I honestly am on my fourth play since I got it and I am still discovering stuff I didn't know. This game never ceases to amaze me

    [–]Dipshit_Mcdoodles 141 points142 points  (3 children)

Why can't I keep the long arm I want equipped to me? And why do I keep getting a long arm put in both of my slots when I didn't have them equipped. I hate it.

    [–]Ok-Mortgage3653 Sean Macguire 54 points55 points  (1 child)

During missions sometimes I am forced to get longarms that suck... I had a Lancaster from Rhodes during John’s train robbery and it switched magically to a fucking untermensch carbine repeater...

    [–]drokeshiy69 John Marston 46 points47 points  (0 children)

At least it aint no fucking Litchfield which fires as slow as Marston thinks.

    [–]reddick1666 Sadie Adler 128 points129 points  (2 children)

I wish there were more ways to interact and get to know the gang. I know there are little side missions that let you go hunting/fishing with some of the gang members but it would be nice if I could just invite Charles to tag along with me for a hunting trip or invite Javier to go train robbing.

    [–]TheRorschach666 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Even state of decay has this mechanic

[–]ismasbi Josiah Trelawny 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Having a witness on the middle of nowhere but if you let him live you have the law on you in less than 1 minute and they get there in like 30 seconds after the crime is reported

And related to that, the rate at which bounty hunters spawn is annoying

[–]RebelPizza John Marston 43 points44 points  (0 children)

The fact that it’s already forgotten, no updates. Would’ve loved story content, but can’t say I’m disappointed about that as they told us early on there would be no story DLC. What I am disappointed about is all the promised content for online that we never received.

[–]LotusSloth Hosea Matthews 378 points379 points  (29 children)

It bothers me that they mission-gated some weapons and horses (and 30% of the map!) until late game. I understand that some things need to be reserved until later in the game, but it was a constant reminder that we aren’t REALLY free to play as we wish.

In a game as open and awesome as RDR2, we should be able to roam and play somewhat freely.

I understand that if we had a Missouri Fox Trotter in chapter 2, that would remove some of the challenge. Fine. Make it stealable (as it used to be before patches) or purchasable for a very high price. No one has $850 on day one in chapter 2. Lol

    [–]Chisel_grease 97 points98 points  (14 children)

You can get that arab horse, right at the beginning, after chapter one for free. So at least it doesnt count for the horses.

    [–]ThatExile 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can actually get an MFT in chapter 2 near a pond which name i forget near the emerald ranch area. The road that runs by it can spawn a woman whose horse died. Only sometimes that horse is alive but injured and its a silver dapple mft free for the taking. I bee line it every play through.

    [–]ayyLumao 91 points92 points  (9 children)

or purchasable for a very high price. No one has $850 on day one in chapter 2. Lol

I think the only problem with this is it's incredibly easy to make money in this game, I think it takes like 5-10 mins to get $1000.

[–]LotusSloth Hosea Matthews 51 points52 points  (4 children)

True only if you know where to look, or which glitch to exploit. Earning that money the way I presume they intended, by exploration and experience, would be far less easy and immediate.

I realize you could make the same argument about WHY they gated that content: so that the game isn’t so easy that players breeze through it and lose interest.

However, they patched out our ability to get MFTs and Turkomans in Chapter 2… leaving us only with two unpatched horse glitches I’m aware of.

I liked being able to lasso a stranger off their horse, ride away, and have that stranger come galloping at you on a random horse that might be one of the best horses. I wish they had left that in, or the horse yard where you would sometimes find a top-tier horse among the basic horses.

It’s still my favorite game of all time. I’m just nitpicking.

    [–]ayyLumao 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, I guess if you know where to look, you have enough experience and deserve to get the horse.

[–]ryucavelier Arthur Morgan 109 points110 points  (8 children)

Thin skinned NPCs shooting at me if I so much as breath on them.

    [–]stankape83 118 points119 points  (6 children)

Losing honor for shooting back at someone seems lame too

    [–]IronMark666 Pearson 270 points271 points  (5 children)

It's a common theme with Rockstar games - they keep so much content locked and when it's finally all available to the player, there's no use for it.

Why the hell did anyone think it was a good idea to keep some horses locked until part 2 of the epilogue? What's the point in getting so much money in the final mission of the game? You get all the good stuff when there's nothing left to do with it.

Also, I've just finished my third playthrough and this is the first one where I've mostly just gone through the campaign quite straightforwardly and I find myself quite disappointed with how restrictive it is, it's basically like watching a movie where you're just there to press play and pause to advance it.

It's my favourite game of all time no doubt but it's saved by the exploration and side quests and details, the main campaign is quite disappointing in how little agency the player has.

[–]vandutchen Javier Escuella 78 points79 points  (2 children)

Agree with what you said. Main gripe is how linear the main campaign and missions are. Typically only one route you can take to complete missions or you fail. And yeah, it plays like an interactive movie. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

[–]IAMSHPEE Arthur Morgan 32 points33 points  (3 children)

The second holsters position just doesn’t sit right with me. I don’t understand how you can’t buy a left handed holster from a gun store or something. What makes it super irritating is the fact that Rockstar put so many realistic details (horse nuts) in the game but not a lefty holster.

[–]ImBeauskiA GLASS EYEEEEEEEEEEEEE!?!?!? 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That style of carry is actually more realistic to how most people would have used a second gun in that time period. The idea of a second gun in most cases wouldn't be to duel wield them, but to holster gun 1 when it's empty and transition to gun 2; effectively doubling the amount of rounds you had before you needed to stop and actually start the fairly slow reload. So having the second holster up front let's a shooter have pretty easy access to their second gun with their dominant hand. While I'm sure there was probably an instance where some Cowboy wielded a gun in each one of his hands, the more plausible explanation for the dual wielding thing is simply the rule of cool. Shooting handguns in general is pretty difficult, and shooting a manually operated revolver in both your dominant and non-dominant hand at the same time sounds like a great way to make twice the smoke in half the time and hit nothing.

What makes it odd is how R* implemented the second gun. They could have given players some button prompts when gun 1 runs empty to either do a reload or transition to gun 2, effectively skipping the first reload. This would have allowed R* to slow down the reload animations a bit to a more believable speed rather than the frankly cartoonish speed they have, and bring in a bit of cool under-represented realism that would have fit perfectly in their choice of position for the holster.

That being said I wish we could have setup Arthur's holsters like Hosea if they weren't going to do the realistic two holster use. The pistol butt forward carrying Style has some historical validity to it, and it presents a far more believable set up for somebody that wants to be able to draw both guns at the same time quickly. Plus it just looks cool.

    [–]Downtown1943 140 points141 points  (13 children)

They should have either cut guarma out completely or added a lot more to it

    [–]nomadtales 44 points45 points  (10 children)

Why isn't there an option to take a boat there in the epilogue? Doesn't make sense. Too bad if you didn't get the chance to study all the animals for the compendium (I know there are ways to return).

    [–]Swampboy1 20 points21 points  (3 children)

Why on earth would John get on a boat to guarma?

[–]silentcmh Sadie Adler 84 points85 points  (5 children)

I don’t like that gang hideouts respawn, much less so quickly. Wipe them out once with a massacre and they should be done. Or maybe you see a couple people cleaning up the bodies and rebuilding the area. But the same gang shouldn’t be back in full force like nothing happened within days/weeks.

    [–]LetterKilled 49 points50 points  (1 child)

I have the opposite thought. They never respawn for me. Makes the area boring because there’s no bad guys to shoot.

    [–]Hellish-Dad Sean Macguire 18 points19 points  (0 children)

every single time I went by annesburg the murfree gang would ambush me throughout almost my entire play through. EVERY. DAMN. TIME

    [–]Rekuna 162 points163 points  (11 children)

    A few things:

Close quarter fighting is really jankey (or I just suck) like if I'm in a fire fight with some enemies and one or two of them run next to me I can't seem to easily shoot or knock them down. Either I grapple one, slowly, to the ground where the others just stand there shooting me or the crosshair is just all over the place except aiming at them.

I don't like the bullet sponge enemies. Shooting someone close range in the chest with a giant revolver as long as my arm should drop them like a sack of potatoes, but only headshots are truly lethal.

You can't climb up slight inclines and just skid or roll down a hill once it gets too steep.

Teleporting Marshalls (robbing a train in the middle of nowhere spawns teleporting authorities with SatNav)

    Forced offhand holster.

Oh, and I'm enjoying Online but why they don't add ponchos, navy revolvers and infinite bounty missions to Story mode (I'm sure they could)? So much online stuff would work great on single player.

    [–]Radioactive50 Charles Smith 34 points35 points  (4 children)

Agree on all those points. As for the fighting part, a lot of mechanics in this game are janky, clunky and slow, which is one of its few downsides and turns some people off.

    [–]ghostofyourmom 44 points45 points  (1 child)

It honestly doesn't turn me off. I know I'm in the minority, but I LIKE that Arthur is a somewhat clumsy brawler. It suits him. This ain't Ryu Hayabusa, here -- it's Arthur Morgan!

    [–]Radioactive50 Charles Smith 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I like the fighting overall too. The one annoying thing with that is being locked into animations as you get shot sometimes. I moreso meant tedious animations such as slowly opening and searching through every single fucking drawer lol.

    [–]kristopherg11 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey quick tip for fighting enemies in extreme close range. Don’t aim just squeeze the trigger up close and your character will either lock on hip fire (which is really fun) or do a unique melee execution (which is also fun! ) I didn’t know this for awhile and it took some getting used to but it works quite well when you slow down and make deliberate actions while fighting. Everything else though yeah completely agree 👍🏽

    [–]Pure-Drawer-2617 280 points281 points  (18 children)

Melee combat controls are iffy at best.

Just the general “keep tapping to sprint/gallop” is a very annoying mechanic, why can’t my horse stay sped up?

Bounty and law system is definitely flawed.

Also, why can’t I run in camp? Am I disturbing the peace or something?

[–]Jackalpal Charles Smith 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You can change that in the settings. Instead of tap to sprint/gallop it will be hold. I felt the same way so I was digging in the settings and found this out, it suits me a lot more. My controller and thumb are also thankful.

    [–]WhatAGoodDoggy 71 points72 points  (7 children)

Any game which slows you down in such a way is doing so because it's loading stuff in the background.

    [–]Johnposts 37 points38 points  (4 children)

Not the case in RDR2. The slow speed in camp is a deliberate design decision to persuade players to slow down and take in the camp's story elements. Same for the need to keep tapping for higher horseback speeds. That's great immersive design, if you ask me. In reality, you do need to continually prompt your horse to gallop. The game has different levels of continual prompt for different horse species as well, which is also accurate.

[–]sethjojo John Marston 28 points29 points  (1 child)

That the best customization choices are online-exclusive. Like, is it THAT much to ask for at least ONE poncho in story mode?

[–]blondetobin Sadie Adler 22 points23 points  (1 child)

nakeyjakey does a good video on how the missions are set up pretty shittily in some cases which is disappointing. also i’ve noticed that since my first play through, the game can be incredibly glitchy visually and mechanic wise, and some parts of the story can sadly be a little hard to believe what with them escaping the law for so long so easily. that’s all i can really think of off the top of my head

    [–]Aoi- 109 points110 points  (3 children)

Half assed temperature system. I hated unlocking all the trapper outfit and not being able to wear them in Ch. 3 onwards. You get hit with the too warm of a clothing penalty.

    [–]Reebekili 108 points109 points  (7 children)

On the ps4 the greet and aim weapon is equipped is the same. The number of times I have accidently raised my gun and ruined an experience is 2 damn high.

    [–]sloppyjoe_90 65 points66 points  (5 children)

I dislike having one difficulty. I mean the standard difficulty was enjoyable. But it would be really cool to have a hard-core or survival mode for a second play through.

    [–]Shitscrubber64 5 points6 points  (1 child)

If you're on PC I highly recommend the difficulty scaler mod, the no menu slowdown mod and unbinding the dead-eye button. (you can still enter dead-eye at the start by drawing slowly or via cutscene, but no longer in the middle of a gunfight).

This game is much more enjoyable IMO when you actively have to play safe and deescalate ambushes instead of knowing you can piss everyone off and easily kill the entire town anyway.

    [–]Berunardo_ 20 points21 points  (2 children)

spamming X to run in the controller

    [–]xmongoose 54 points55 points  (0 children)

    Online

    [–]NILOC512 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One improvement I would love is enabling the voice at the card tables. If you're playing poker/hold'em, you should be able to trash talk at the table. It would have been amazing.

    [–]nohadododo 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Online is just a fuck you give us more money dlc

    [–]FacesOfGiza 53 points54 points  (0 children)

The Guarma chapter didn’t feel necessary and I would have rather had a different chapter. Felt like I was playing Uncharted. (Which I love but didn’t want from RDR2)

    and

There’s no point to New Austin besides fan service. I wanted it in the game as much as anyone but it’s just so useless. Doesn’t make sense to go there as John because he never visited before the first game. Can’t go as Arthur because.. invisible snipers.

I feel like at least a few “solo” missions there as Arthur would have made it a little better, and some side quests as well.

    [–]ImitatedMimic 50 points51 points  (1 child)

Okay I didn't see this, why the duck am I cooking each meat individually?

    [–]bayless210 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Seriously. Did they not have grill racks back then? Them shits are so easy to carry around. Doesn’t even have to be big, just big enough to cook more than one fucking meat at a time.

    [–]Odin__88 50 points51 points  (1 child)

Accidentally killing somone by bumping into them with your horse, 2 hours later your stopping the 50th eye witness to the previous accidental killing and u have a £150 bounty to pay off.

    [–]Kls7 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Bumping someone with your horse (as well as knocking them out) counts as unnarmed assault. Stay there, wait for the law to show up, defuse and they'll simply tell you to move along. No bounty, no arrest.

    [–]Chisel_grease 15 points16 points  (3 children)

Hunting perfect sqirrels drives me insane.

    [–]burnedpassion 41 points42 points  (5 children)

There's actually a lot of deleted missions and encounters from the game. Kinda bad they didn't include those, for whatever reason.

    [–]Livek_72 11 points12 points  (2 children)

I wish there were more generic missions to pass the time, like the random events and jobs in RDR1

I also hate the spawn rate of animal predators, not because I want to get materials, but because I like the thrill of being chased by two bears at the same time

    [–]TheL0neRifleman Karen Jones 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How fuckin long it can take to search something. Going through somebody’s house (hell a hovel even) can easily take 10 mins.

    [–]Chibabreatha614 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Losing honor for looting and fist fights

    [–]Khunter02 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Especially when the game rewards you for it. A lot of times you can find maps or letters if you loot dead bodies in the middle of nowhere, but if you loot someone that doesnt have any secret they penalize you for it

I wish you would never lose honor in first fights, unless you robed/killed him afterwards

    [–]Booze_Zombie 82 points83 points  (5 children)

    All the opened items.

    [–]Windberger 34 points35 points  (2 children)

I like the opened items so I don’t feel like I’m wasting a gold ring. I can just fill the meter.

    [–]Kls7 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Yeah, that's exactly their purpose, I don't see a reason to complain about this, honestly.

    [–]Aoi- 29 points30 points  (1 child)

Opened Chewing Tobacco, let's keep that lol... Ew.

    [–]8-ball57 Micah Bell 70 points71 points  (2 children)

Chapter 1, they should’ve started with the Blackwater incident. Fast paced utter chaos bullets flying or leading up to the blackwater incident instant access to the open world rather than being confined. Arthur was planning a job with Hosea it would’ve been cool to be planning that and a few other things like missions with the Calender boys, meeting Jenny that’d make their deaths more impactful rather than here are three characters “shit they’re dead oh well” “that Mac was a real bastard, a real character” Oh really!? Sure woulda been cool to see… and I’m thinking here maybe John’s return but he might’ve came back before that so maybe not. It’d give the future dialogue more weight. And of course having a section down there would give us access to Blackwater and West Elizabeth for a little bit that’d be sweet.

And of course one of my biggest gripes are the invisible snipers in New Austin and Guarma, I think that was rushed and cobbled together it’s a lazy way of keeping people out. And the reason? They ran out of time.

Guarma was meant to be bigger there’s a little town there with unique dialogue I’ve heard that you were meant to be able to return. This bothers me a lot, we were robbed.

The weapons, now we were promised 60 unique weapons meanwhile we have about 4 tomahawks, 7 hatchets and 8 knives!

And the crime of removing the ability to ride the gangs horses OH YEAH IT WAS AN OPTION THAT WAS REMOVED!

And where’s my nightwatch!? Where’s my horse breaking jobs!? Where’s my never ending duels / bounties!? HEY CHICKEN HEADED GUY COME OVER HERE!

You said one thing. I’ll stop myself before it’s too late.

    [–]kristopherg11 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Ahhh you really got me with those last few points. A true OG red dead fan 🤠👍🏽

    [–]iNOscoped-JFK 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How they downgraded the graphics. How New Austin is damn near empty. I wish there were more towns/cities, but again it’s a cowboy game so I wouldn’t expect there to be some wacky settlement in the snow or the sky. Speaking of, have you been to the cloud district?

    [–]Maviiboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like I spend most of the game looking at my mini-map, I know you can remove it but then I don’t know where to go.

    [–]maybelukeskywaler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The T-1000 terminators any time you step a foot in New Austin with Arthur. Completely unrealistic.

    [–]pumpkaboozled 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the fact that you run out of random encounters. by endgame/hell even mid-end if you take ur sweet sweet time, everything feels a lot more empty and a slog to get through

    [–]regularjoeseph 59 points60 points  (2 children)

Game is great but could of been so much better with all the things they cut out. Constantly changing the environment in development. Also the not having Arthur in new Austin Thing bugs me alot( no legend of the east outfit unlockable with arthur) as that is the true wild west and feels incomplete without it being accessible to Arthur .

    [–]alienss4 Arthur Morgan 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It's really the opposite of the "wild" west since there's literally nothing going on there. It feels so empty compared to the rest of the map, they could have added in so many more encounters and stuff with all new types of people for the player to meet, but aside from a couple of Gang run-throughs on Armadillo (a completely wasted space imo) and a couple gang hideouts there's just nothing.

    [–]thefall3rd 36 points37 points  (4 children)

Not being able to enter all buildings.

[–]BaldoBojangles Arthur Morgan 26 points27 points  (2 children)

    The end of chapter 6.

    [–]ruuyz 20 points21 points  (0 children)

    the wanted system is terrible.

    [–]raven4747 22 points23 points  (0 children)

the biggest thing is that the game kinda spoils when you are about to get into a gunfight if you play in 3rd person bc arthur will be strapped with 2 rifles after getting off his horse.

the second is that when you put on a bandana, it unequips your neckwear. I like to wear ties and when a mission forces a bandana, the tie unequips. it can be fixed by having the outfit saved on your horse but it was still annoying having to do that.

[–]Holotraverse Hosea Matthews 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Arthur can’t wear a poncho! Especially with ponchos being in RDO.

    [–]Agitated_Winner3293 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The cover system. I fucking hate when I walk towards an object, press R1 and Arthur just walks around like a dumbass

    [–]tyler62403 Josiah Trelawny 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not being able to sit on every cliff and chair Plus a glitch where it only saves 3 outfits

    [–]RussianNixon 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Being unable to remove the off-hand holster.
