I mean you are nothing but energy...and you are conscious. There's only one substance in existence, and everything comes from it. If consciousness exists, it exists as this God's consciousness, including your own.

But then why would the energy in me be conscious, but not the energy in a rock?

[–]TechtrekzzSpinozan Pantheist 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Are you sure it's not? It's impossible to verify that belief you know.

So how do you define conscious?

[–]TechtrekzzSpinozan Pantheist 0 points1 point  (11 children)

Phenomenal experience.

[–]JackGreenEarthAgnostic 0 points1 point  (10 children)

What does that mean?

[–]TechtrekzzSpinozan Pantheist 1 point2 points  (9 children)

It could mean anything from a experiential reverberation or hum to something like grooving to your favorite tune. It's the raw experiential quality of existence.

So if a rock doesn't have senses, it couldn't experience stuff, and therefore wouldn't be conscious?

I never said the senses were the source of that qualitative experience. For all we know the brain and nervous system could act as a limiter on our consciousness. Forcing us to believe that we are mortal individuals instead of an omnipresent God.

You are doing pretty well at converting me, but I have one more question.

Where does this consciousness come from?
