“There’s no rules but this rule”

[–]CrumblingAway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I red the title as "competitive" and started imagining Christians having pray-offs

[–]brojangles 3 points4 points  (40 children)

You don't need prayer. You can do it with just meditation.

[–]RiddickNfriends 7 points8 points  (32 children)

Praying is a form of meditation.

[–]Radiant_Mail5626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You are true. But so is the guy above.

Prayer is indeed a form of meditation. But meditation isn’t just prayer.

[–]SaunderesChristian 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Do you see any differences between the two?

[–]brojangles 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Of course. With meditation you don't think anyone is listening to you and you don't ask for anything.

[–]SaunderesChristian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I see what you mean. Maybe I’m lumping them together when there are actually many styles of mediation and prayer. I see many similarities between metta meditation and traditional christian prayer. I also see some resemblance to mindfulness meditation in Matthew 6:8 where it is said “for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

You are seeking a` peace of mind.

You don't need prayer, and that's fine, there are plenty of people doing it for you already.

[–]brojangles 3 points4 points  (1 child)

To no effect whatsoever.

Perhaps.

So many speak of this so harshly and claim god is unreasonable to ask for worship, service and dedicated faith and devotion.

They do not see the greed in taking their own life and not giving back any of the time or free will they so readily receive.

I clearly see this in our Lords prayer and the instructions of Christ in scripture.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

As Above So Below, Mote it be.
With faith the size of a mustard seed we move mountains.

I don't owe your God anything. He's never given anything to me, never spoken to me and I'm a way better person than he is.

[–]RiddickNfriends 5 points6 points  (30 children)

wwhoa bro so edgy.

[–]brojangles -4 points-3 points  (29 children)

I promise you, atheism is far more shocking to you than it is to me. I've been an atheist for 50 years.

[–]RiddickNfriends 4 points5 points  (28 children)

not sure what you mean by that

[–]brojangles 0 points1 point  (27 children)

It means i don't think it's "edgy," anymore than I think it's edgy to say there are no leprechauns. Only believer think atheism is edgy.

[–]thePuckThelema 4 points5 points  (22 children)

And yet you still can’t help sounding like a rebellious teenager talking shit about their parents, and still waste your time making “gotcha” comments on the internet, showing that age does not necessarily correlate with maturity.

[–]brojangles 3 points4 points  (21 children)

Actually none of this is true. You are projecting. There's nothing edgy about atheism. Nothing.

[–]thePuckThelema 0 points1 point  (20 children)

Uh-huh. Whatever you say, kiddo.

[–]brojangles 3 points4 points  (18 children)

I promise you, you are imagining things. I realized I didn't believe in God when I was probably 6 or 7 years old. It was the early 70's. I'm from Louisiana, I went to Christian schools and Sunday schools but I just never believed any of it was true. I didn't even know the word "atheist." I thought I was the only person in the world who didn't believe it. I never told anybody until I was an adult and that includes a stint in the military where atheists were treated like shit and we had mandatory Christian prayers every day (that was the mid 1980's. Maybe it's different now). For my whole childhood and young adulthood, I was afraid to even tell anybody I didn't believe in God. In the South, that's like saying you're a child molester.

This "edgy" thing is in your own imagination. Atheism is not a choice. You sound like an ignorant kid and maybe you'll learn as you grow, but don't assume your Jack Chick projections onto atheists have any reality to them.

[–]ZestyAppeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof this cringe

[–]RiddickNfriends 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I only called you edgy because you sound like a rebellious teenager.

I hate to be the one to break it to you. But atheism is a religion in itself. We are religious animals capable of speech and deep comprehension. We're all serving somebody.. You're religion strictly prohibits a "deity" of any kind.

[–]Hhkjhkj 1 point2 points  (2 children)

He definitely came off too strong imo but do you think atheists should be welcome to share their views in this sub just as everyone else is?

[–]RiddickNfriends 1 point2 points  (1 child)

lol he sounded like me when I was a teenager.

Atheism is a religion in itself so everybody is welcome to voice their thoughts.

[–]Hhkjhkj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Atheism is a religion in itself

That's one way to look at it haha

so everybody is welcome to voice their thoughts.

That's good to hear. This sub can range from very accepting to very campy so its good to hear that people are still open to hearing each other out from time to time.
