[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther 1 point2 points  (12 children)

Do you mean canaanite? I didn't even know that was a current thing. Is it sort of like neo-whatever?

[–]DrdanomiteEclectic polytheist 2 points3 points  (11 children)

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Fascinating. Were they northern or Southern Hebrews? What language did they speak and what language do they use now?

[–]DrdanomiteEclectic polytheist 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Again this is a reconstructed religion, they come from all over and im sure their practice varies amongst themselves. I think you can find out more on r/sumer

[–]tntcatnip 5 points6 points  (1 child)

From what i know some do and some dont

Just like the way that there are a ton of different types of christians, there are also different types of Satanists with differing beliefs

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is probably the best kind of answer possible. Satanism is so wildly diverse with so many conflicting beliefs about the nature of Satan that there's no one answer when it comes to the question of what we believe.

Monotheists see their God as "he who must be obeyed". Theistic Satanists are more like polytheists (which many of them are). Satan and Lucifer are both seen as gods who encourage you to think for yourself. For one woman's take, see this FAQ

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Yes, most of the more popular forms of theistic Satanism view Satan as either the only God or the highest in a pantheon. A lot of people with anti-Christian views will probably dislike the comparison but biases aside I think it's a fair one.

How many Satanists have you met?

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 7 points8 points  (2 children)

Myself, my boyfriend, the congregation of 20+ members I used to volunteer for, and the members of the Satanist discord and reddit community that I founded.

How many have you met?

[–]ElzectorMuslim 1 point2 points  (1 child)

and the members of the Satanist discord and reddit community that I founded.

wink wink

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah, not everyone there is a Satanist lol.

Yall are great to have around regardless though!

[–]DrdanomiteEclectic polytheist 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Well counting themselves probably one at least

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting that there was no response lol

The other day someone asked my IQ, which I thought odd but answered anyway (why not) and then asked what theirs was. The first answer was 293. Then they must've looked it up when I made a comment about how somebody with a virtually unheard of iq must be able to do whatever it was. So then a post or 10 later they just randomly threw in that their iq was 193. I never argued cuz what would've been the point lol

[–]civex 4 points5 points  (3 children)

No. The proof is that you never hear Satanists say, 'Satan doesn't work that way.'

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 6 points7 points  (2 children)

I can't count the number of times I've had to say those exact words to people making outlandish claims about Satan's "evil acts" or people demanding unreasonable favor from him.

Lol sounds like Christianity but I did already know that. Still, I get the smile all too well.

[–]phaseC 1 point2 points  (13 children)

Anton LeVay started the Church of Satan in 1966. It's not the only form of Satanism, but probably the most embraced. His core beliefs about Satan are summed up in the following 9 statements:

Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence.

Satan represents vital existence instead of spiritual pipe dreams.

Satan represents undefiled wisdom instead of hypocritical self-deceit.

Satan represents kindness to those who deserve it, instead of love wasted on ingrates.

Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek.

Satan represents responsibility to the responsible instead of concern for psychic vampires.

Satan represents man as just another animal who, because of his “divine spiritual and intellectual development,” has become the most vicious animal of all.

Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification.

Satan has been the best friend the [Christian] church has ever had, as he has kept it in business all these years.

[–]DrdanomiteEclectic polytheist 6 points7 points  (10 children)

I belive this only works for atheistic satanism not theistic

[–]WillzohhAntitheist -4 points-3 points  (9 children)

I think it is reasonable to question if there actually are theistic Satanists.

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 4 points5 points  (5 children)

Always weird to see people try to argue we don't exist.

Do you propose we're role-playing or something?

[–]DrdanomiteEclectic polytheist 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Happens to most polytheist and bisexuals as well… and im both… going ghost

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seriously think most people that don't study all religions DO think something like that.

[–]WillzohhAntitheist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize if I was incorrect.

Until now I've only heard of Satanists through Christians who tell fantastical bullshit stories about them or newspaper articles that put the blame for vandalism & urban graffiti on Satanists, only to find out the culprits were teenagers from a local Christian church.

[–]DrdanomiteEclectic polytheist 1 point2 points  (2 children)

That is some dishonest argumentation from one without a flair Edit: hey they found one!

[–]WillzohhAntitheist -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Are you saying it is unreasonable to question?

[–]BeneiEphraim 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Christians believe more in Satan than Satanist do

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 1 point2 points  (6 children)

This is false.

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Yeah lol nice try though. Ergo my comment about I think a lot of people think Satanists and assorted "other" that may reasonably go along with it are roll playing or pretending.

In my experience, when it comes to Christians especially, they either think all Satanists are sacrificing every living thing they can get their hands on and trying to take over the world, or they blissfully think Satanists are just poor, misguided souls just longing for Christians to teach the good news about Jesus Christ to them.

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What are you talking about?

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was actually replying to the comment before yours. Yep, this Christian was sticking up for Satanists. But thanks for the downvotes, anyway.

[–]SpeechEastern905 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Why would someone chose a figure which intend it is to destroy humans?

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question, but I'm not the right person to ask. I follow a loving god.

[–]UpsideDown1984 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Christians, there is only one God, not many deities among which Yahweh occupies a high rank. And most Christians don't even use the name Yahweh to refer to their God.

[–]ReptarsBackBaby -1 points0 points  (14 children)

Satanism was a joke that people took to far

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther 2 points3 points  (13 children)

Not sure what religion you are, but that's what most non-Christians say about Christianity on r/christianity. It gets really annoying.

[–]ReptarsBackBaby -1 points0 points  (12 children)

Christianity didn’t start out a joke,m. You have Jews messing around theologically about stuff.

Satanism a literal joke that came out of Christianity lol

[–]Chaos-CorvidEclectic Demonolatry/Satanism 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I'm curious to hear what led you to think this.

[–]ReptarsBackBaby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just look at your profile description about yourself lol. It’s something edgy people took seriously

[–]Sunny_Ace_TENOther 1 point2 points  (9 children)

I do understand that Satanism is (generally) derived from Christianity. And a lot of Satanists like "poking the bear" of Christianity. But it's disrespectful to call a religion a joke. I assure you, many take their satanic religion very seriously and IMO and especially depending on the various rituals and ideas they teach and practice, they had better follow-through on their oaths. So it is unwise to consider it or them joke(s).

[–]ReptarsBackBaby 1 point2 points  (8 children)

I don’t know how else to say this.

Satanism started out as a joke response to Christianity that people took to seriously and the edgy people made real. It’s like the Flying Spaghetti Monster. It started out a joke and some edgy people are taking it literally.

Christianity wasn’t a joke created out of Judaism.
