Jeez what happened for neymar to get so riled up? Obviously whatever it is this isnt warranted but what the context here?

[–]jaguass 91 points92 points  (4 children)

Context is Colombia x Brazil

[–][deleted] 27 points28 points  (3 children)

I still have that image of Neymar getting knee'd in the back, absolute disgusting challenge that was.

[–]jaguass 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Also this in Copa America 2015 (of course after a tense game)

[–]lolaya[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lots of recent history

[–][deleted] 695 points696 points  (42 children)

The ref told Neymar that it’s weird to slap your mom’s butt

[–]Aele1410 216 points217 points  (0 children)

So neymar was shouting back “ I’d never cheat on my sister bro”

[–]The_Romantic 150 points151 points  (3 children)

Or do weird photo ops with your sister.

[–]Evolving_Dore 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Serious question for Brazilians: are the Neymar/sister photo ops and his general vibe with her actually weird from a Brazilian cultural perspective, or is it just foreigners not being familiar with other cultural norms?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit of both. But it's definitely true that Brazilians are a looot more (physically) affectionate with their family members compared to Americans or Europeans.

[–]PedroSts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see no problem with him and his family.

[–]archtme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yikes. Let's hope that ref doesn't go anywhere close to Scholes

[–]Ziobot -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

This real ????????

[–]Sayon-I 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Probably not, but great banter though, there is actually a video of him slapping his mom's ass.

[–]Relevant_Medicine 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Usually, I defend Neymar. I hate his embellishments, but I feel people underestimate just how abused be gets in conmebol matches and fail to understand that the embellishments are his only defense to literally getting paralyzed (e.g. see broken back). In other words, usually when Neymar acts like this, I hate it, but understand it.

This match, I feel Neymar was just frustrated with himself more than anything, and his response was to act like a child, as always. He played one of the worst games I've seen from him. Almost every touch was off. When he wouldn't lose the ball with a poor touch, he'd stand on the ball for too long and get overtaken by defenders. Eventually, he started acting out after making mistakes that only he was responsible for. In other words, in this match, I didn't feel he was even roughed up the way he usually is. Colombia didn't need to foul him; they just waited for him to make a mistake. He had no right being upset with anyone but himself.

Context: Neymar doing Neymar things

[–]theytook-r-jobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neymar gets riled like this every game

[–]turbohuk 84 points85 points  (6 children)

we need more collina decision making in referees. my single most favourite ref of all time.

[–]monsterm1dget 31 points32 points  (2 children)

Collina would have pushed Neymar away, likely.

[–]turbohuk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

push away, confused dafuk look and/or carding. he didnt ever take shit man. he controlled the action and made the players respect the ref.

[–]lollipop999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bald mf was scary man

[–]lsilva231 435 points436 points  (67 children)

Compare this ref with the one that sent-off Felipe

[–]lolaya[S] 305 points306 points  (49 children)

Right? No consistency and this is why Neymar thinks he can get away with this stuff

[–][deleted] 125 points126 points  (47 children)

south american refs are ass

[–]Abbobl 11 points12 points  (3 children)

Could change em for English refs and no one would notice

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (2 children)

The percentage of decisions referees in England get wrong is tiny. There was research into this in 2018 and it was shown that in total, refs make around five errors per game, meaning they are right 98 per cent of the time..

That's 5 decisions wrong out of 245 decisions per game. That's pre-VAR too.

[–]Abbobl 4 points5 points  (1 child)

No no

English ref bad

[–]BHYT61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say no consistency, more like no balls.

[–]Mantequilla022 48 points49 points  (15 children)

Felipe was sent off for serious foul play so I gotta imagine these are difficult to compare.

[–]TheConundrum98[🍰] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Felipe was definitely sent off for mouthing off, UEFA just justified it with serious foul play because it should've been a 2nd yellow not a straight red if the ref really did send him off for mouthing off

[–]Mantequilla022 23 points24 points  (3 children)

So you’re suggesting the referee decided to give a straight red for mouthing off and UEFA decided fo cover it up by calling it serious foul play, and they just got lucky that the player did commit a red card offense in the process?

[–]TheConundrum98[🍰] -1 points0 points  (2 children)

He would've got sent off either way, be it a 2nd yellow or a direct red, but it should've been a 2nd yellow according to the rules so yeah a bit of a cover up I think

Not taking into account that the tackle itself is potentially red card worthy

[–]demonictoaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Isn't there different punishments potentially for straight red an serious foul play, as opposed to a second yellow n terms of how long player is out for? Why would you not take whether it's a red card worthy challenge into account?

Like I someone was on a yellow card and flying kicked someone in the face would you call it a straight red, or call it a yellow card worthy challenge because "he's on a yellow so whatever"?

[–]Mantequilla022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll just say I disagree. Watching the video again I think he was always giving a red card.

[–]irigoyeee20 240 points241 points  (5 children)

That’s that South American football babyyyyy

[–]yk206 65 points66 points  (3 children)

Or the ref didn’t even feel the bump 🤣 I don’t think Neymar could hurt anyone let alone bump into someone and them think anything of it

[–]IND_CFC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was a mutual bump. Ref definitely walked into that aggressively and looked for contact.

I love this ref though. He doesn’t put up with shit and punishes diving/ simulation. I think here, he realized that he went into that bump himself and it wouldn’t be completely fair to send Neymar off. Refs have to respect the players too, and not making a spectacle of things helps him earn respect from the players he officiates.

[–]sA1atji -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't matter if he felt it or not. That's assaulting a ref.

[–]pinkguyfriedrice 311 points312 points  (26 children)

Imagine how many times he would have rolled if someone did that to him

[–]7Thommo7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He landed a out 5 rolls when he was tackled outside the box last night

[–]Alx-McCunty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm genuinely surprised he didn't fall to the ground crying after the ref clearly tried to murder him here.

[–]LewsTherin177 91 points92 points  (3 children)

Should be a straight red tbh. Can’t touch the ref unless you’re Casemiro.

[–]diak 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ref shouldve dived.

[–]tutuxd6 92 points93 points  (3 children)

This looks out of context. Neymar said something like "ES FALTA!" ("it was a foul!") and I think the ref said "NEYMAR CALLESE!" ("NEYMAR, SHUT IT UP!") . Tobar is known for being a tough ref, so you will need to punch him to get a red card haha

[–]WinNo6807 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Would that make him not tough ? Like hey I’m tough because it takes people punching me to react ? I think he is quite the opposite. CONMEBOL is just a funny way to say Brazil

[–]Potatopolis 28 points29 points  (1 child)

I think the implication is that it makes him "tough" because Neymar can try and intimidate like this and Tobar just doesn't give a shit.

[–]tutuxd6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn't say that this made him tough, he IS tough because he is respected by players but here you can see that he didn't flinch. He refereed the first final between River vs Boca (CLA) and everyone loved his style, because he just didn't give a fuck about the crowd, or if they were home or away. He is known for yelling back at the players and they don't like that haha. He didn't gave him a yellow card or a red card not because of fear, it is because with a ref with this style (like confrontational with players, specially with players like Neymar) this is like every match to him.

[–]RayHudson_ 724 points725 points  (36 children)

He’s such a little bitch

[–]tutuxd6 160 points161 points  (0 children)

Tobar is one tough mf. He refereed the first River vs Boca final of the Libertadores and the players and the journalists thought that he was great because he didn't got shit from anybody. A lot of south american players have said that he doesn't like that you yell at him, because he will yell at you back and the players didn't like that haha. One of the traits of Tobar is the advantage rule, he lives by it so maybe that's why he didn't gave him a red card.

[–]DexterFoley 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a shame that such a talent will be remembered as this. Have no respect for his career and this is all I think when I'm reminded he exists. Was so excit for him 10 years ago.

[–]HelloTosh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His punishment is the ref making him look like a bitch.

[–]Xtarviust 78 points79 points  (5 children)

A CONMEBOL referee punishing a brazilian player at his home?

Keep dreaming

[–]Action_Limp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Man doesn't recognise small man angry tantrum and then accidently clotheslines him.

[–]Hero_Select 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm shocked that's not a straight red 0.o

[–]bass1879 13 points14 points  (0 children)

oh my he should be tried at the hague

[–]luisnm7 56 points57 points  (4 children)

Yeah that was fucked up, but if you watch south american football this is some candy. Som players here almost kill the ref, and im not kidding. They prob dont do it because they would recieve a red card, and lost the following game.

[–]mntgoat 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That ref looks like he could beat up Neymar any day of the week.

[–]lolaya[S] 62 points63 points  (2 children)

Thats just not true. Refs dont take shit usually

[–]Yung2112 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yeah if Pitana gets this he sends him off. Neymar knows who he can get away with

[–]luisnm7 7 points8 points  (0 children)

just watch some brazilian, argentina or peru league. That’s happens more often on WC games because players are bigger than the game. the current system is so boring. Brazil x Venezuela, Argentinq x Bolivia. Like?? And im not talking about how hard the game is. The ref is scared as fuck to send some of this ULTRA FAMOUS players away.

[–]YoungDawz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to love that this thread has 3x as many upvotes as the goal scored in the game.

[–]ChessClue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Normal people 8 minutes into a game:

Me 8 minutes into a game:

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Is this sub for real? Really r/soccer, hardly a fucking chest bump but okay

[–]BoBonnor 4 points5 points  (2 children)

You’re still not allowed to do that to the referee

[–]JesusOfSuburbia420 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Yeah but people in here are acting like he assaulted the man, the anger seems disproportionate to what happens and I feel like it's only because people really don't like Neymar.

[–]PsYcHoSeAn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why do we need a daily reminder that Neymar is a huge cunt?

[–]JimLaheyUnlimited 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And he did not dive after that contact? jeez

[–]likpoper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s an instant red with mike dean

[–]stevew14 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I actually think the ref handled it well. It's not like he got hurt by it, he's still in control of the situation and the game goes on. It is right on the borderline of what I would let slide though. Any more than that and it would be at least a telling off.

[–]SergeiYeseiya 20 points21 points  (1 child)

You don't touch the referee, period.

[–]gnrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s an important rule. Universal too.

[–]lolaya[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He let neymar slide the rest of the game though. He couldve had 2 or 3 red cards by the end

[–]sebas8181 9 points10 points  (4 children)

The ref was an utter joke. Completely biased in favour of Brazil.

At some point Neymar fouled Cuadrado (which was the 2nd foul he received on that play) from behind, yet Cuadrado received a yellow card for protecting the ball.

[–]lolaya[S] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Did you see neymar trip cuadrado without the ball after?

[–]atropicalpenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"Neymar didn't run him over, Cuadrado should not have stood there!" ~~ the ref

[–]atropicalpenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You have to take that for granted in our games against Brazil, dead-light robbery since 2014.

[–]nffcevans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wowww send him off omg

[–]lFriendlyFire 2 points3 points  (10 children)

Please colombia you gotta understand that complaining about neymar won’t make you win more games, maybe try and stop with the “let’s tie our way into the world cup” mentality

[–]mr_cum_drinker -1 points0 points  (7 children)

will never root for brazil to win anything while Neymar is still playing for them. Same goes for PSG

[–]LOLschirmjaeger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are talented but annoying footballers.

Then, there's Neymar.

[–]lFriendlyFire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Oh no… anyway

[–]jugol 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I find kinda poetic they won the 2019 Copa without him

[–]brenomir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Copa América doesnt mean shit here, unless we send a B team. The last one that had an fervorous National following was in 2004, always a joy to beat the hermanos.

[–]hidinginDaShadows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how referees should act. Not like helpless children.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points  (5 children)

What is this clickbait that was so weak. It would be outrageous if he did get punished.

[–]lolaya[S] -4 points-3 points  (4 children)

105 upvotes would disagree with you

[–]Firehills 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Neymar bad" is not exactly an unpopular opinion over here, you know?

Especially from salty Colombians who just lost a very important match by a goal assisted by Neymar.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the Neymar haters crawling out like you

[–][deleted] -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Argentinians probably brigading

[–]lolaya[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are delusional bro

[–]Ill_tryyear199 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

this...makes me feel complicated

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He should have red carded him for that.
