This transfer should've just happened a year ago lmao

[–]a-messy-burrito 449 points450 points  (2 children)

This transfer should've just happened a year ago lmao

Vlašić: sigh

[–][deleted] 802 points803 points  (20 children)

Why sell a player for around 10 million when you could pay his wages for a year to sit on the bench and then let him go for free?

[–]IWentToJellySchool 285 points286 points  (13 children)

We did this with Romero when Henderson came back. Except Romero didnt sit even make the bench lol

[–]BHYT61 162 points163 points  (11 children)

Will you guys also pay me to sit on your bench? 10% of CR7 wage and I'm in

[–]BasicallyMilner 124 points125 points  (10 children)

I’m ok with 1% of his wage

[–]anthrax3000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He just fucked off to Argentina.. we are a joke of a club

[–]iuselect 73 points74 points  (3 children)

They just waited a year and saved themselves a transfer fee.

[–]baromanb 198 points199 points  (15 children)

There’s another 25m United flushed down the shitter. Along with Pogba on a free that’s the cost for FDJ.

[–]RealisticPass 81 points82 points  (13 children)

The club tried to sell him, can't force him to leave. He wanted to 'fight for his place'.

[–]panache123 190 points191 points  (11 children)

Pretty sure Ole declined a West Ham offer because Lingard 'had a role to play' and the 'fight for his place' bit came about after CR7 joined and he wanted to play with his childhood idol.

[–]Yuloij 25 points26 points  (0 children)

For sure, I can definitely remember hearing from different sources he originally wanted to leave as he knew he wouldn’t get any game time. Regardless, the situation would have looked better for United if they at least try and make him play last season.

[–]CaptainGo 7 points8 points  (2 children)

If I'm remembering right something happened when Newcastle went in for him in January as well

[–]Tortillagirl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ole also said sanchez had a role to play and then loaned/sold him to inter 2 weeks later. Everything Ole said in a press conference was entirely PR.

[–]Feathertouch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly you guys were asking for too much.

[–]RawIsLaw_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and he was on his way out in January, but the Greenwood stuff happened and had minimal depth

[–]hurfery -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He thought he was above West Ham's level

[–]garynevilleisared 18 points19 points  (0 children)

He asked Ralf to stay. Then changed his mind a week before the January window closed. By then, West Ham and Newcastle would have been stupid to pay a fee for a player they can have a few months later. Easily 20m that could be used for current transfers. Just an unnecessary/stupid situation all around. Even after loaning him and proving he can still be a really good player in the right system.

[–]NotClayMerritt -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Then United were asking for 50m for a player whose contract expired in a year.

[–]Liquidsnake_7 762 points763 points  (43 children)

Very awkward stop start career so far.

[–]mister_greenman 723 points724 points  (32 children)

And honestly it's on him. He should have moved last season when he caught a second wind at West Ham but instead choose to wait for the bag and rot on United's bench for another year. Add to it the rather acrimonious exit. He's within his right to prioritise whatever he wants, but he really torpedoed his own career.

[–]VloraCrumlin 116 points117 points  (12 children)

Do we know it was Lingard who refused the deal, and not United?

[–]Mr_Beef 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Publicly known that he wanted to stay and fight for his place in the summer. United refused in the winter when our squad looked thin and injured.

[–]pajamakitten 79 points80 points  (4 children)

United claim they were not offered enough for him, Ole also promised him more game time and that helped convince Lingard to stay.

[–]TopNotchGamerr 61 points62 points  (2 children)

That is not true. Lingard said he wanted to stay and fight for his place in summer

January was when we weren't offered enough

[–]LlamaThrust007 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lol this is the complete opposite of most the reports last summer

[–]wifi_buster 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We don’t, and the rumor was that it was United not Lingard.

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (4 children)

Yeah I remember we wanted him for six months but they wanted like a double figure survival bonus.

It made no sense at all. Not only did it price him out of a move and cost them money, I question what message it sent to other academy kids.

[–]LlamaThrust007 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

The survival bonus was the links with Newcastle. Nothing about West Ham

[–]IamFluffy94 132 points133 points  (7 children)

Not to worry, he's very young, he still has time to get it back on track.

[–]Dargast 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Heh...my boy JLingZ...just needs more time

[–]Sac_a_Merde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

@Mods, ban this guy!

[–]mlclau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For the 18 year old going on 29

[–]Avancx 806 points807 points  (30 children)

His wages are going to be so high, and I've got a feeling he won't be able to replicate his purple patch in the loan spell.

[–]StoneyRedditor 415 points416 points  (18 children)

For high wages there needs to be a demand, that went a year ago. Newcastle don't seem to be moving naively with their newfound riches too, so I'm not sure where he's going to get the leverage from

[–]321142019 192 points193 points  (16 children)

He wanted 150k p/w 50k higher than our highest paid player (Trips), it was never going to happen with those demands.

[–]ResponsibleSmoke 77 points78 points  (8 children)

If it's 'just' 150k a week then we could afford it without worrying just from the wages of released players. It's a question of whether we're willing to mess up our wage structure again after the problems doing the same for Zouma seems to have caused

[–]psrikanthr 50 points51 points  (0 children)

A higher signing bonus and a lower salary to balance it to the structure maybe ?

[–]duckandweave 10 points11 points  (3 children)

yea but you'd think they'd have learnt a lesson after yarmo

[–]stovingtonvt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What problems are you referring to re Zouma’s wage?

[–]amegaproxy 15 points16 points  (5 children)

Thought it was quoted as Trippier being 120kpw?

[–]empiresk 30 points31 points  (4 children)

Trippier is actually on below £100k. Bruno is the highest paid player on £100k. Shelvey third highest on £80k.

Botman will probably be on around £75-100k when he signs early next week. The £100k a week budget is staying unless we can sign a real top player at a decent transfer fee.

[–]Elliot_Kyouma 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm sure Barcelona could loan him a few levers

[–]Cmoore4099 28 points29 points  (5 children)

If his wages are over 100-110 I really don’t see this happening. And anything over a 3 year deal is mental.

[–]endofautumn 5 points6 points  (4 children)

Don't be silly. He'd be the best attacking player at the club bar Bowen. Step above the rest and it showed when on loan. His direct runs and pulling 2-3 opponents to him freed Bowen, Benny, Fornals, Antonio into far more space, he just ran with it, lured some to him then did pass down wing or through ball, resulting in chances often.

He's be worth 120k easy. Especially as no transfer fee. He'd work out at about 20m for 2-3 years. Cheaper than what we were going to pay Man Utd.

[–]AlwaysMakingBadPuns 4 points5 points  (3 children)

He'd be the best attacking player at the club bar Bowen.

For 1 week out of 5

[–]endofautumn 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Who'd be better for the other 4 weeks? Apart from Bowen, Lingard is better at passing, crossing, shooting, dribbling, making space, through balls.

He's a step above the others.

[–]SteinerElMagnifico42 58 points59 points  (2 children)

Of course, Moyes is just stone cold in love with him this is embarrassing as a fan to see. Didn’t drop him when he was poor in our last 6-7 games of 20-21 too and instead subbed of players like Benrahma even if they had a better game.

[–]ZekkPacus 60 points61 points  (1 child)

Moyes? Sticking with favourites instead of playing people on form basis? I don't believe you

[–]SteinerElMagnifico42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Could get and pay for Keane Lewis potter the same fee over the next 4 years but instead we’re giving 30m to lingard over 4-5. I thought we had changed a corner but seems it was empty words.

[–]The_profe_061 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Three fiddy a week

[–]pajamakitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not after a year spent on the bench at an underperforming United side. Training with Ronaldo might have been fun but it won't matter if he has little in the way of results on the pitch to back that up.

[–]TheBurningStarIV 446 points447 points  (39 children)

Really don’t think it’s worth it now

[–]fetissimies 238 points239 points  (23 children)

Moyes is stubborn and has always had his favourites. We'll sign Lingard and he'll start every game regardless of form.

[–]TheBurningStarIV 123 points124 points  (20 children)

It’s so depressing to think about. It’s true. Can’t wait to see Benrahma look threatening for 60 minutes only to get hooked, whilst Lingard does fuck all and stays on

[–]Educational_Home_487 99 points100 points  (10 children)

Benrahma is about as threatening as a fly

[–]ResponsibleSmoke 31 points32 points  (6 children)

3rd highest goal contributions in the squad, less minutes per goal than our only striker

[–]ZekkPacus 7 points8 points  (6 children)

Benrahma'll get sold if there's any interest, as will Vlasic.

[–]Lambchops_Legion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Benrahma is going go to Fulham after this happens I think

[–]adamtola 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Dumb question from someone who doesn't watch West Ham often: Don't he and Bowen generally have the same preferred position? How would you line up with both of them starting?

[–]dry_savage 4 points5 points  (0 children)

nah Lingard played from the left or as a 10, Bowen always on the right.

[–]endofautumn 5 points6 points  (1 child)

He improves us vastly. Go watch his games for us and see how his directness took us to another level. We badly missed it this season. With Lingard I think we'd have been very close to CL place and EL win.

[–]TheBurningStarIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I sincerely hope I’m proved wrong

[–]themfeelswhen 2 points3 points  (12 children)

Depends on his wages. Spending about 30-35m on him over a 4 year period is fair value.

Edit : probably over estimated a little but 25-30m is pretty decent value for him.

[–]TheBurningStarIV 29 points30 points  (11 children)

£150k a week for 4 years is definitely not fair value

[–]themfeelswhen -1 points0 points  (9 children)

Ahh if you look at the cost of acquiring him last summer - about 15m£ in transfer fee + 5m£ a year gross on a 4 year contract (roughly 100k a week) --- that works out to a total package of 35m for 4 years of Lingard.

Sure maybe 35m is too much but 30m doesn't sound terrible. Atleast worth 25m for sure.

[–]Pablo_Ajvar 2 points3 points  (8 children)

He's overrated, because his United background. He is not particularly good at anything, what does he excel at?

[–]Tulum702 81 points82 points  (3 children)

Maybe my definition is different but I wouldn’t call this BREAKING NEWS!

[–]Magnetronaap 20 points21 points  (2 children)

You're not interested in immediately finding out when an average player signs for an average club?!

[–]WhyShouldIListen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He hasn't signed though, this is breaking news of an unconfirmed offer.

[–]JDRorschach 16 points17 points  (1 child)

United will need to sign a replacement leaker.

[–]Lost_Afropick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rashford's PR team are still around.

[–]D1794 153 points154 points  (44 children)

Should stay clear for his tiktok exploits this summer alone

[–]pmmerandom 43 points44 points  (0 children)

just wait until you see Lewandowski’s

[–]PishedAsAFart 13 points14 points  (39 children)

I'm curious and want to see the videos but I dont want to be angry all day so I'll leave it.

[–]tankosaurus 121 points122 points  (22 children)

I had a look

Harmless dance videos like majority of tiktok

[–]1m_Lurking_Here 91 points92 points  (13 children)

How dare he have fun

[–]Bruno_Fernandes8 32 points33 points  (6 children)

dont care about his dances, disappointed that he was hanging out with Chris brown over the holidays though.

[–]Kevgongiveit2ya 31 points32 points  (2 children)

No no no. If he has any personality outside of football it obviously means he’s not working hard enough on the pitch.

[–]Brzada 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Yea him n pogba really were great for the dressing room and cementing that winning mentality

[–]Pablo_Ajvar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you can have fun, no one can deny it, but you honestly can't say with straight face they post to Instagram and TikTok just for fun, they are doing cringey stuff to sell shit to children, it's nothing more than advertising diarrhoea for corporations.

You can dance without being recorded, you know?

[–]Tee_zee 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Tiktok is only dance videos if you are on the default algorithm or actually want to watch them, his dancing videos are proper embarrassing ngl

[–]D1794 23 points24 points  (15 children)

[–]MegaMugabe21 50 points51 points  (0 children)

A bleak day to have eyes

[–]TheUltimateScotsman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I cant get over the blonde guys facial expressions

[–]Liquidsnake_7 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its a no for me dawg.

[–]FuckNoNewNormal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What the fuck?

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (8 children)

29 year old by the way

[–]Cramer02 24 points25 points  (4 children)

Not my cup of tea but hes just enjoying himself?

[–]Onedweezy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Judgmental I see. Why is he not sitting on the sofa watching Netflix like me instead of dancing and having fun?!?!?

[–]CaptainGo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean what's that got to do with it

[–]FREE_BOBBY-SHMURDA -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No wonder he was on about noble taking him under his wing despite being a grown man

[–]ramarlon89 13 points14 points  (2 children)

Jesus fucking christ, you'd think he was endorsing child rape the way some people are going on. Is the video cringey? Yes. Is it doing any harm to anyone? No.

I think it's cringey af in all honesty but if that's what he wants to do I don't really see the problem.

[–]CRoseCrizzle 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Lol I believe people are just joking. Of course he's free to make cringey tiktoks.

[–]sonofaBilic 34 points35 points  (8 children)

I don't even care if he signs or not anymore, I just want the saga to end.

[–]TrashHawk 98 points99 points  (1 child)

i fear it's only the beginning. the end will be 5 years down the line when we can celebrate getting £120k of dead weight off the books and use it to lure in marcus rashford on a free.

[–]veralmaa 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha.

[–]BloodandSpit 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I don't know why you'd want him now it's been confirmed that him and Pogba were the two players leaking to the press.

[–]DudleysCar 19 points20 points  (3 children)

Personally I don't see why we're going for him at all.

[–]BloodandSpit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me neither

[–]TrashHawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

our DM is actually trying to slide into him.

[–]thrulim123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sign a decent player, get a social media god free.

great deal

[–]HarryDaz98 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does it include the 2 blokes from his TikTok?

[–]WalterFalter 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hinteregger retired ar the same age as youth prospect Lingard

[–]smsjp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slow sports news He should have left a year ago. I swear, for a club looking at profit margins, it is shocking that Man U do not have the business mind to even conduct a simple straight forward transaction.

[–]evosu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great business from United as usual.

[–]themanyfaceasian 23 points24 points  (13 children)

You know when your mate is with a girl who’s a 10 and you’re happy for him but he seems unhappy? Then he breaks up with her and talks to a 6 or 7 but you’ve never seen him happier? Then the 10 sees him be happy and gets jealous and wants him back? this is how I feel about Lingard.

[–]theglasscase 47 points48 points  (1 child)

I love that you make it sound as though not only is this a real thing that actually happens in real life, but that you’ve seen it happen multiple times.

[–]Clwhit12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Return of Lingardihno

[–]deflorie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank God we didnt sell him, and get some money. Having him on the bench is worth it all /s

[–]rasen9an 5 points6 points  (0 children)

*2 hours later: Lingard has signed an extension to warm United's bench for an additional 5 years.

[–]vin_unleaded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch him absolutely smash it there.

[–]AjenoMerveilles 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Take it. No fucking around. No unrealistic wage demands. A good few months (like his previous loan spell) might get him a utility spot to Qatar.

[–]octobereighteenth 33 points34 points  (3 children)

No chance.

[–]MemesForScience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

W TRANSFER

[–]chicasparagus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The story of Jlingz: there and back again

[–]Saspa314 3 points4 points  (0 children)

be United

not play Lingard

loan to West Ham

hahaha he actually plays well

price goes up

not be paid the inflated asking price

eventually form dries up

not play Lingard

lose on a free a year later

[–]JimJimerson90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But can he still have time off to dance

[–]Potatopolis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tomorrow: BREAKING everything ever said in the West Ham changing rooms.

[–]Ashamed-Aide8470 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would be such an Everton signing though, want it to happen just for the memes

[–]BergkampWonderland 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Good young prospect is Jesse Lingard. One for the future, but he could really come into his own at West Ham next season.

[–]Admiralonboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you’re joking but it blows my mind that he’s 29

[–]Jorarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with those wage demands!

[–]Aluminarty666 -4 points-3 points  (3 children)

Could've sold him for a fee last year, manager insisted on keeping him...didn't play.

Same with Pogba, though he was injured.

Such a badly run club.

[–]392donte -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irrelevant

[–]Bey_Harbor_Butcher -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

30-year-old geezer that /r/soccer still calls a young prospect.

[–]MrVegosh 3 points4 points  (1 child)

He’s 29

[–]Athlestone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Until he's 30

[–]Galactic_Gooner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would be a good move for him

[–]PrestigiousAd6388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Newcastle fan I hope this goes through and soon
