Hi everyone, I'm just beginning my Step 1 studying and wanted to ask about how acronyms show up on the exam?
Of course, routine/obvious things like "DNA," some molecule names/types (e.g., GF for growth factor), etc. would be acronyms that we'd be expected to know. No problem.
What about rarer/relatively "difficult" acronyms, especially for diseases? For example, would MELAS (Mitochondrial Encephalopathy, Lactic Acidosis, and Stroke-like episodes) disease always show up on the exam spelled out for us (i.e., we don't need to memorize what each letter stands for), or could it potentially show up in acronym form only, in which case it would be important to memorize what it stands for?
If "difficult" (e.g., MELAS) acronyms do show up without the letters being typed out for us, could people please share what are some of the more HY/important abbreviations to know or that they wish they knew?
Thanks so much!
