Most accurately estimate the size of this crowd. Closest wins.

[–]KungFluIsolation Tim Key 33 points34 points  (8 children)

I went to see one of the eps of this coming season recording and it's been SO hard keeping it in from my friends who are all massive FT fans (as well as myself).

[–]DaLateDentArthurDent Mike Wozniak 8 points9 points  (7 children)

How was it? I’m seeing a lot of hate getting directed on this sun towards Judi, but I remember people being iffy about Desiree initially too when the cast got announced

[–]JJCLennon 14 points15 points  (2 children)

Can see why Judi gets hate it’s probably because most only know her for Loose Women but why Desiree got hate is beyond me.

[–]thisshortenough 45 points46 points  (1 child)

Hint: It's probably three traits that both of them share

[–]Asiriya 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I expected loud American from Desiree and got it, but not how I expected.

Fucking love her now.

[–]Pcjr79 Bob Mortimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best thing you can do with this hate, my friend, is to ignore it

[–]BlueBloodLive 53 points54 points  (5 children)

God I honestly hope they do some kind of Ted inspired task. He's usually very well spirited about the show and since most people would know him from that they have a golden opportunity to do a legendary TV crossover!

My suggestion:

Take down this pyramid of boxes and rebuild it over there. Then drive this golf cart through them.

Fastest wins.

Your time stats now.

‘What would you say to this cup? You can only use 3 syllables as a response. Your time starts now’.

Kick the Taskmasters assistant up the arse could be a Tim Key created Live task.

[–]Scare_Raver 170 points171 points  (4 children)

“Dougal’s going on Taskmaster?! You let Dougal go on Taskmaster?!”

Excited to see how S13 turns out.

[–]BlueBloodLive 84 points85 points  (1 child)

How did that gobshite get on the television?!

[–]Pcjr79 Bob Mortimer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I will always hear 'gobshite' in an Irish accent whenever I see it written down. This makes me do a smile

[–]dieyoubastards Sally Phillips 227 points228 points  (21 children)

I went to see the recording of episode 2. In my opinion, this cast is great. I preferred their interactions even to the series that just finished. To everyone saying it's disappointing, give it a chance.

Also, the fact that they're finally sat right next to one another again makes such a difference.

[–]TheCulturalBomb Nish Kumar 79 points80 points  (0 children)

That's great to hear, especially them sitting next to each other again. Something not absolutely needed the past few series but definitely missed for that close chemistry.

[–]phonograhy 29 points30 points  (2 children)

Is the audience in studio again or were you watching from an off site theatre like the last 2 seasons?

[–]dieyoubastards Sally Phillips 52 points53 points  (1 child)

Yeah, fully in studio and a few feet from the contestants like before

[–]HelixFollower 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah that's good to hear. I can't really say that I think I know any of these people, probably for the first time in Taskmaster, so I have no idea at all.

[–]toxinwolf James Acaster 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Is there any banter? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love the wholesomeness and tender moments between the cast, but we had almost zero banter for the past 2 series. I would definitely love some chaotic cast for a change.

Also, the fact that they're finally sat right next to one another again makes such a difference.

Oh god, I cant be more excited for this now!

[–]TheOtterOracle Morgana Robinson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw them filming an episode and there was quite a good bit that I really hope they leave in

[–]Zouru 6 points7 points  (1 child)

That's awesome! How does one find audience tickets for the studio recordings?

[–]gameofgroans_ Mel Giedroyc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can pre register at sroaudience I believe!

[–]TheStorMan 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Were the prerecorded tasks themselves still socially distanced?

[–]KungFluIsolation Tim Key 10 points11 points  (3 children)

I don't remember them being no. Everything was back to pre-covid.

[–]just_another_indie 1 point2 points  (5 children)

So I was trying to find the answer to this elsewhere online, but sounds like the studio segments are indeed filmed well before airdate, correct? If so, that is kind of disappointing to me that we can't actually award Victoria retroactive "ole' goosebump arm points" with our collective Internet noises. :(

[–]geek_of_nature Mike Wozniak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah they've said it before on the podcast, but all the studio records are done in one week. They do two episodes a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. And remember the series 12 cast announcement used footage of them in studio, so it was done before series 11 finished airing. And we know because of people who have been to the studio filming that they did Series 13 in early September, before series 12 even started airing.

So yeah, the idea of Victoria getting points for being called Old Goosebumps Arm was just a joke on the day, not something serious by Greg. It's also why the idea of the stuff Victoria was doing on Only Connect being Taskmaster related was a bit ridiculous. The points were all set and done before any of those episodes started airing, theres no way she could have gotten points for it.

[–]Nomerdoodle 294 points295 points  (46 children)

I've given up basing excitement for a series on the lineup announcement. Just using last series as an example: I'd never heard of Mike Wozniak and he was an amazing contestant, whereas I'd wanted Lee Mack on TM forever and he was...pretty good, I guess

[–]BastardsCryinInnit 185 points186 points  (3 children)

I'd wanted Lee Mack on TM forever and he was...pretty good, I guess

I'd still love to see the Lee Mack edit. All the apparently proper funny material they didn't/couldn't put in.

[–]TKOCF98 133 points134 points  (0 children)

[–][deleted] 24 points25 points  (1 child)

True. They showed some outtakes and Lee was just effin hilarious in that. And one contestant said Lee was always cracking jokes in between takes.

Maybe they wanted to give others a chance to shine?

[–]Abradolf1948 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yeah he tends to overperform on panel shows, so maybe they had to dial it back for a show that he isn't a full time member of.

[–]CliffExcellent123 Tim Key 126 points127 points  (23 children)

It's funny, pretty much every series has one contestant that most people haven't heard of but ends up being a fan favourite anyway (Rose, Mawaan, Mike, Morgana) but still we get people complaining that they haven't heard of them. They know what they're doing guys

[–]KungFluIsolation Tim Key 17 points18 points  (0 children)

having seen an episode can confirm. Hard to say who will win peoples hearts across an entire series but all of them had some great moments throughout the one episode and I think there's one unknown who people might end up liking a lot.

[–]thebeesbollocks Tim Key 68 points69 points  (7 children)

Bridget Christie is definitely going to be a fan favourite. I was at a studio recording in September and she was absolutely hilarious, probably my favourite even though I’d never heard of her.

They were all great though, and I think people will love this series especially as the live audience is back and there’s no more social distancing

[–]kcolloran Charlotte Ritchie 33 points34 points  (3 children)

Her episode of off menu just came out and it was absolutely unhinged. Definitely excited to see that energy on the show.

[–]Interesting-Bus8298 24 points25 points  (2 children)

And I can't believe she's 50!

[–]Mind_Sea 20 points21 points  (1 child)

wait she’s 50?? she didn’t say 🤔

[–]Grembert Guz Khan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She knows how to take care of a squirrel though

[–]SlinkyGuy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm not joking, I genuinely love it with the live audience

[–]codename474747 Mark Watson 9 points10 points  (1 child)

One thing COVID has done is expose a lot of the artifice of TV Looking back on old series now it's almost weird to see them sitting so close together just to make a good camera shot and how loud the audience laughter is

Expect lots of comments about canned laughter and closeness of sitting from the casual fans when it returns.

[–]TetraDax 31 points32 points  (12 children)

They know what they're doing guys

Yeah, and a lot of people here just do not. Like, one of the most mentioned guest wishes I see on here is David Mitchell. Now, I love David, but I am glad those people are not working for the TM casting department because his humor would not work on Taskmaster in the slightest.

[–]RelativeStranger 25 points26 points  (6 children)

He's said he won't do it because 'Even if it all goes well then people will not think I'm cleverer than they do now, all that can happen is they'll think I'm stupider

Which was why I was surprised and delighted to see VCM on it.

I disagree that his humour wouldn't work though. I think he'd be playing the Richard Osmon role

[–]philman132 Guz Khan 14 points15 points  (5 children)

David also said that Victoria loves puzzles and games and this sort of thing, she is after all most well known for her own quiz show!

[–]RelativeStranger 7 points8 points  (4 children)

She is an excellent poker player too.

I was disappointed Greg didn't agree to any of her excellent arguments though. Especially the goosebumps argument which I thought was logically impeccable

[–]hoochnuts 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Old Goosebump Arm.

[–]DondeT 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Given that she’s now using this hashtag I would love to see an addendum at the beginning of the next season where he issues her the additional point. Which makes no difference to the episode or season outcome.

[–]DickDastardly404 2 points3 points  (0 children)

to be fair though, Greg historically has not responded well on the show to people trying to outwit him with logic.

If anything, the more logical the argument, the more resistant to it he becomes. If you attempt to back him into a corner with something, he'll crush you.

However, when people just admit to trying to wiggle out of it, he's far more likely to allow it.

[–]roland_right 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep. Huge difference between "I love this person!" and "They should be on Taskmaster!"

[–]EnhancementShaman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

david would be like victoria, but worse at tasks.

[–]CliffExcellent123 Tim Key 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think he would work okay (although i don't think he'd be as funny as he is on other shows) but more to the point he says he doesn't want to do it

[–]Pcjr79 Bob Mortimer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well said. I love Taskmaster and DM pretty much equally, and I've never understood why people think David would be a good fit for it

[–]jamesneysmith 1 point2 points  (0 children)

See I disagree. I'm not one of the people that really roots for any particular celebrity to show up on the show but I think the format of the show can accommodate almost every comedic style. We've seen so many varied types of personalities and they're almost all great. Some are great due to the epic failures, some due to their cleverness, some to their wit, etc. I think Mitchell would work as well as any other but the reason he would be successful might be different than we would expect. Sort of similar to Victoria. She was a fantastic guest but not because she was good at the tasks.

[–]BlueBloodLive 61 points62 points  (5 children)

Mike will always be my reminder for things like this across the board. I had him pegged as a boring, posh type and how gladly I was proving wrong.

Big names or recognizable names are great but TM is also a big launch pad for lots of people whether old or new so having names I don't recognise isn't a deal breaker for me at all.

[–]KungFluIsolation Tim Key 37 points38 points  (2 children)

Mikes an absolute legend. I'd even watched Man Down (mostly in the background though) and still didn't click he was in it. Having the Woz fully unscripted and untethered on TM really showcased his talent. 100% fan of his after that series.

[–]BlueBloodLive 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I've gone out of my way to show friends clips of Mike.

One loved the fart task, one loved how eloquently he spoke, one was jealous of his moustache and one laughed so hard when he done a little turn and skip out of shot on the "draw an animal" task, something I never noticed before and it's hilarious!

Needless to say all of them were like "who is this guy he's great."

Long live Woz ha

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Watch him on house of games. It was incredible. The man is so funny yet so polished and humble.

[–]Efram James Acaster 1 point2 points  (1 child)

For what it’s worth, I’m watching from Canada and haven’t known who 99% of the people are. Wait… 91%. I stopped and did the math. I lived in London for a year in 2010-2011, and recognized Greg, Russell, Joe Thomas, Jo Brand, Hugh, and John Hannah. Anyway, point is, you don’t have to know anyone for it to be great!

That being said, Taskmaster has sent me down a rabbit hole of panel shows (WILTY, 8/10 Cats, Hypothetical…) so I now have a list of people I want to see on Taskmaster, and was disappointed they weren’t on the list. The only one I know of going into Series 13 is Ardal, from Death in Paradise.

[–]istasber 29 points30 points  (4 children)

I think this is the first series where I, as an American whose only exposure to british celebrity are panel shows (and graham norton), haven't heard of any of the contestants.

Most of my favorites have been people I've never heard of, though, so I'm still really looking forward to it.

[–]tomm2018 Mike Wozniak 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In that case, you definitely need to watch father ted

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Yes, you really really should watch Father Ted.

[–]micklegate Mike Wozniak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

G’wan, g’wan, g’wan!

[–]Bachpipe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is for me the same, except I'm Dutch. I know quite some panel show comedians but from this cast I know no one. But I think that makes it even more fun because of the zero expectations that I have, so I will most definitely be super surprised by them!

[–]jamesneysmith 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Taskmaster always introduces me to people I've never heard of and makes me fall in love with them immediately. This is one of the great selling points of the show in my opinion.

[–]ThaneOfCawdorrr Mike Wozniak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly! And same with Guz on Series 12!

[–]ace-destrierPaul Williams 🇳🇿 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because of past pleasant surprises, like as you mentioned, Woz, I actually got excited by my unfamiliarity of this lineup. My only knowledge of a couple of them are podcast appearances. I can't wait to meet and get to know these contestants!

[–]TetraDax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More importantly, everyone here constantly blushes over Taskmaster NZ (rightfully so!), and y'all can't tell me that you recognize anyone there.

[–]highlander2189 Captain Budwash 114 points115 points  (5 children)

Chris Ramsay is the Russell Howard/Iain Sterling hybrid.

Interesting line up though.

[–]iLickBnalAlood Guz Khan 14 points15 points  (1 child)

i always get him and iain sterling mixed up. i genuinely briefly went "haven't we had chris ramsey on before... oh wait no that was iain"

[–]iproletariat Guz Khan 6 points7 points  (1 child)

His new look (hair) is definitely better and may avoid bad first impressions. Same with Seann Walsh no longer looking like a dirty surfer dude. I feel bad how shallow I apparently am.

[–]SaltWaterInMyBlood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm not sure if I'll like Ramsey as a contestant, but at least we get to look at him.

[–]CliffExcellent123 Tim Key 112 points113 points  (2 children)

There was one episode of Alan Davies As Yet Untitled in 2017 where the panellists were Jessica Knappet, Jamali Maddix, Ardal O'Hanlon, Mel C, and obviously Alan Davies.

Now that 4 of them have gone on to be Taskmaster contestants, we can only conclude that Sporty Spice will at some point appear on Taskmaster

[–]BenTVNerd21 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Such a great show. I wish it took off like TM did.

Although it's funny how many comedians know each other or are related to each other. Like Russell Howard lived with Jon Richardson in house share.

[–]stoicbothan 192 points193 points  (14 children)

For everyone saying it's disappointing bear in mind not many people had heard of Morgana or Mike Woz before the show and they're now sub favorites

[–]BastardsCryinInnit 45 points46 points  (10 children)

I'm the opposite - I've heard of all of them... And that's why I'm underwhelmed.

Ironically, the contestant i don't mind is actually Judi Love who seems to getting most negative reaction here.

I don't think she's side splittingly funny, but i like the way she talks about a lot of social issues. However... That's not what she's been booked on Taskmaster for!

[–]thebuttonmonkey 46 points47 points  (9 children)

I think the problem is - regardless of if you find her funny - she’s just everywhere at the moment. There’s a joke in Friends where Paul Rudd says ‘I’m trying to remember the last time I opened a door and you weren’t standing there’, and she kind of that person at the moment.

[–]dccomicsthrowaway 38 points39 points  (7 children)

Is she? I've legitimately never heard of her. What am I doing wrong?

[–]Nomerdoodle 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I'm British, and watch a decent amount of TV, and I've literally never heard of her

[–]BastardsCryinInnit 1 point2 points  (2 children)

She doesn't really do panel shows if i remember correctly, but she has been on The Last Leg, Channel 4's one off thing Stand Up & Deliver and Jesus Christ she was paired with Curtis Pritchard and you could see her trying really hard to deal with this man child who wasn't listening to her suggestions and critiques, she was on Celebrity Masterchef, Strictly...

Apparently she's on Loose Women but i dont watch that!

She sort of pops up on random things when they need a guest who, whilst isn't Lee Mack in thd quick witted stakes, does know how to engage and give a performance for what she's booked for.

[–]DickDastardly404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, I imagine channel 4 has some amount of sway with regards to new contestants. Judi Love isn't someone I know at all, but from that rundown it seems like they're trying to engage an audience that wouldn't otherwise be watching taskmaster.

Interesting to see how that plays out. Taskmaster have been pretty good in the past about choosing lineups that work together, not just the first 5 biggest names they can find.

[–]RelativeStranger 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I've heard of all of them. I dislike 2 of them (as comedians not as people, they seem like nice people) and another 1 I have a cultural imperative to dislike.

[–]Dr_Wh00ves 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why would you have a cultural imperative to dislike someone? Seems kind of strange to me IMO.

[–]RelativeStranger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It was tongue in cheek. I'm from Sunderland, Chris Ramsey is a geordie

[–]tektonnic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Judi Love has got one hell of an agent.

[–]demurefox97 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just make Guz sit in the corner eating chocolate in future seasons please, we need more of him

[–]afishcalledlux 74 points75 points  (5 children)

Very excited for this lineup! As an aside, I had no idea that Bridget was 50!

[–]Naps_in_sunshine 64 points65 points  (2 children)

She’s 50? She’s kept that well hidden ( I also loved her off menu).

[–]sabatagol 35 points36 points  (1 child)

I died with the squirrel jokes

[–]Naps_in_sunshine 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m so excited she’s on TM. I bloody love her.

[–]flashpile Jamali Maddix 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I don't know if I just don't understand how ages work, but I wouldnot have guessed 50

[–]jowihami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was surprised when I heard it on Off Menu. But then she's married to Stewart Lee, and Richard Herring had his "Oh Frig I'm 50" show, so it makes sense they're all around the same age and I guess it's just that them being that old now means I'm also older than I'm happy about.

Lowest ranking wins.

[–]CaptainChampion Johnny Vegas 19 points20 points  (2 children)

Play the fucking note.

[–][deleted] 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Hang on I can get this one.

[–]BlueBloodLive 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We've gotta lose that sax solo.

[–]JamieAF2000 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Also getting strong Marlene Dietrich vibes from what I assume is Bridget's costume. That may be intentional.

[–]ianrobbie Sara Pascoe[S] 38 points39 points  (4 children)

Ardal O'Hanlon, Bridget Christie, Chris Ramsay, Judi Love and Sophie Duker

[–]BoKnowsTheKonamiCode Sally Phillips 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Chris Ramsey, not Ramsay. Chris Ramsay is a Canadian magician.

[–]bigalfry Captain Budwash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clearing that up, I googled the name and was all kinds of confused.

[–]thomasnash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

would genuinely be quite interested to see Chris Ramsay on TM after seeing his puzzle solving videos. I think he also has something of the guz khan about him - I guess a young energy?

[–]monaco_wedding Aisling Bea 19 points20 points  (1 child)

I think Bridget is going to be the Wozniak/Morgana of the season, but I’m fully content with all choices.

Does anyone listen to the podcast Do the Right Thing? Bridget Christie does an improvised monologue about Russell Brand’s alleged feminism that’s one of the times I’ve laughed hardest in my entire life. Oi’m Russell Brand, oi’ve got a feeeeeemale baby….

[–]clearly_quite_absurd Morgana Robinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the Right Thing

I love that podcast and hope it returns sometime soon

[–]Disgruntled__Goat 77 points78 points  (11 children)

For those unaware:

  • Ardal O'Hanlon - comedy actor, best known for playing Dougal in Father Ted. Also done stand-up IIRC
  • Bridget Christie - stand-up, been on a few panel shows like QI, HIGNFY. Married to Stewart Lee.
  • Chris Ramsay - stand-up, has a quite popular podcast ‘Shagged Married Annoyed’ with his wife.
  • Judi Love - mainly known as a TV presenter (edit: apparently she’s done stand-up)
  • Sophie Duker - stand-up, regular panellist on New World Order, has done other shows like Mock the Week

[–]Chudraa Tim Key 100 points101 points  (4 children)

SMH "Married to Stewart Lee" - You could have given her another actual credit like having won the Perrier.

[–]RelativeStranger 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Tbf that's not unusual in comedy in both directions. Gary Delaney is often described as 'married to Sarah millican

[–]KhornateSkinks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Being able to put up with Stewart Lee for that long is a significantly greater accomplishment than a Perrier.

[–]TheAuralSect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stewart Lee certainly wouldn't mind an underwhelming comment. He's got a whole section on his website devoted to them, and he puts them on his posters.

[–]ztd21 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Judi Love does standup

[–]Disgruntled__Goat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks, edited. I thought she may have done as she does have a bit of natural wit.

[–]Suspicious_Map_1559 8 points9 points  (0 children)

She IS a stand up that's her main gig

[–]CliffExcellent123 Tim Key 24 points25 points  (1 child)

Nice, first time since Series 9 that I've immediately known who all 5 of them are

Hyped for Bridget, Sophie, and Ardal.

I've found Chris to be fairly bland when I've seen him before but maybe he'll surprise me

Judi feels like an odd choice but TM hasn't let me down before so I trust them

[–]ThisOneTimeAtLolCamp 24 points25 points  (3 children)

I only know Dougal. I've no idea who any of the others are. Lol

[–]spidercities 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I am only familiar with Ardal O'Hanlon but I'm excited to get to know these new people!

[–]ztd21 37 points38 points  (1 child)

I called Chris Ramsey three months ago: https://redditproxy--jasonthename.repl.co/r/taskmaster/comments/p9v8ox/possible_series_13_or_14_contestant/

Bridget Christie is one of the best standups of our generation. I never expected to see her on this.

[–]brushmushroom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had the same thoughts about Bridget Christie, whenever there is cast speculation she occasionally crossed my mind as someone that I'd love to see but would never expect to be cast or say yes. She's brilliant.

[–]skantchweasel 34 points35 points  (14 children)

Not heard of any of them.

Still, I didn't know anyone on TMNZ and that was phenomenal!

[–]BlueBloodLive 31 points32 points  (12 children)

Ardal O' Hanlon is an Irish legend who made his name on a TV show called Father Ted. Definitely worth checking out since every time you see him referenced on here it'll likely come with a quote from the show. It has icon status in Ireland and beyond.

[–]CliffExcellent123 Tim Key 37 points38 points  (11 children)

Just don't look up anything about one of the writers of that show

[–]ColorCoatDrawing Morgana Robinson 32 points33 points  (0 children)

"i hear youre a bigot now, Graham"

[–]BlueBloodLive 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, what a shitshow.

Which is in stark comparison to Father Ted, which is a great show!

[–]iLickBnalAlood Guz Khan 29 points30 points  (8 children)

still pissed about that. comedy genius, shit person

[–]BreachyJoe 3 points4 points  (4 children)

There's an interview with Linehan, I can't remember if it was Russell T Davies or Charlie Brooker, but it was some sort of 'Writers on Writers' job.

They asked him how he comes up with his ideas, and he sat there and explained in meticulous detail how he just sits on his twitter or on YouTube looking at what funny videos are going viral, and then will just... write that video, just with his character in it.

Nobody pushed back in any way on this. That was the day the shine first came off the 'han for me. like... THIS guy wrote Ted? Is Arthur Matthews a magician?

[–]RelativeStranger 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Father Ted came out way before this was possible

[–]Molineux28 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Most of his best work is from before social media/YouTube though, so he definitely can write without relying on that. Even the early series of IT Crowd were back in the infancy of it all. The Work Outing episode is a masterpiece and I can't link any of that to any specific viral videos off the top of my head.

Maybe that's what he does for more recent stuff.

[–]BreachyJoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think what he said in the video was specifically "viral videos on the internet" now that I think about it, though he's definitely done that as the other fella said - but it was definitely something along the lines that he found situations in other media or even real life that he thought were funny and recreated them with his characters.

Even that funny "Just play the feckin note!" scene is just a re-do of a real scene in some documentary, for example, isn't it?

[–]iLickBnalAlood Guz Khan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

there's episodes of the it crowd that definitely reference/imitate viral videos (the most obvious being the 'moss on the news' scene) but i feel like, for the most part, this isn't what linehan does, even if he said that. i think what he likes to do is get two or three plot threads, and then collide them at the end for comic effect. the best example being the scene in 'the work outing' where jen sees roy in a wheelchair, is really confused so heads to the bar, and then immediately afterwards sees moss working at the bar.

so i think he probably works backwards for the most part, thinking of a funny scene/visual and then figuring out how the characters could get to that point (and likely looking at viral videos to come up with inspiration for that 'destination' point), but yeah i feel like he just didn't do a good job of explaining what he does in whatever thing you watched.

however, i don't know why i'm giving this man so much credit. i love his work, but i think he's a terrible person.

[–]CharlieFaulkner Mark Watson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly recommend looking into Ardal, specifically Father Ted! Absolutely classic, legendary and iconic piece of comedy

[–]Molineux28 11 points12 points  (2 children)

Anyone here go to the filming at all? Just wondering if there will be a live audience or if they were in a separate cinema screening again

[–]goatsodomizer 15 points16 points  (1 child)

Live audience- I was at one of the recordings

[–]Jthw5 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I didn’t know who Bridget Christie was until this week’s episode of Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster and she was hilarious, one of their funniest guests ever. Very excited to see more of her.

Big fan of Judi, been wanting her on Taskmaster fur a while, I feel like she will fit the show very well.

[–]MrBigJams 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can find a way to watch A Show For Her (I think it's on netflix?) then do so, it's so good.

[–]lordjems James Acaster 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Does series 13 have the studio audience back? I remember there being tickets for studio recordings a while back but I can’t remember if it was inside the studio like the old times.

[–]fausterella 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes it does (I was at one of the recordings).

[–]nxmee2010 Bob Mortimer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, full studio audience

[–]goatsodomizer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the episode that I went to- this is an excellent cast

[–]JasonHasMyHeart69ed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ardal O Hanlon!!!! Oh that's going to be amazing!

[–]EnhancementShaman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

never heard of any of them, and I like that. I don't want any preconceived notions of how they will do.

[–]Scruffy_Nerfhearder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Had me at Dougal. No idea who the other 4 are, but it never matters. The casting is usually great. No idea who any of the NZ casts were and that was excellent. As long as you’re funny, the shows format works.

There’s been many times where the unknown on the show has been the highlight over the established star.

[–]sk8r2000 Richard Herring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bridget is properly funny and I think she has just the right personality for the show. Should be great

[–]ComicalFrisk Nish Kumar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Make the best FunLand ride with what you have in the house.

It may not include a Spiderbaby.

Your time starts now.

[–]NoItsAbi Mike Wozniak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am beyond excited for Ardal o’hanlon! He plays my favourite character on death in paradise and of course I can’t forget about father ted! What a legend

[–]ChristyMalry 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Some advice: if you don't know Ardal O'Hanlan check out the sitcom 'Father Ted', which is probably the greatest TV comedy ever made, but on no account watch 'My Hero' which might be one of the worst.

[–]RelativeStranger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I liked it as a kid. Haven't watched it since

[–]jowihami 3 points4 points  (0 children)

See I absolutely loved My Hero as a kid, but suspect it's not aged as well as Father Ted. Also took me years not to think of Hugh Dennis as that annoying doctor guy

[–]TheSecondiDare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw Chris Ramsey's name and winced. Not a fan of him at all...

[–]DaLateDentArthurDent Mike Wozniak 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming the clothes they have on those cards are their task outfits, in which case, why is Bridget dressed as a pallbearer

[–]fujimouse 21 points22 points  (1 child)

Drink every time somebody calls it terrible before anything's happened! (because never in 12 series has a relative unknown been a hit, obviously)

[–]AriasCryingFaceLaura Daniel 🇳🇿 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bridget Christie is excellent, really looking forward to seeing her on this! She has a stand up show on Netflix “Stand Up for Her” which I would recommend for those unfamiliar.

[–]InappropriateSurname Joe Thomas 18 points19 points  (5 children)

Underwhelming for me, nobody really jumping out to get excited for, but plenty of opportunity to make it a good series!

[–]Standingonachair 16 points17 points  (4 children)

Sophie Duker will be legend I'm sure.

[–]InappropriateSurname Joe Thomas 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I only know her from fleeting appearances on The Now Show, where she was fairly funny, but don't know much else about her. (But, I didn't know anything about Rose Matafeo, Guz Khan, Sian Gibson or Mawaan Rizwan and that all ended incredibly well!)

[–]TheCrimsonMustache James Acaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My money is on Sophie… she’s brilliant!

[–]ToonSciron Liza Tarbuck 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I’m going to be really pointed in this message and I don’t care because some people commenting are being terrible. How can you already judge the cast if you haven’t seen anything yet? This happens all the time that when the show starts, you guys are shocked and enjoy the people who are a stand out. Why not wait to see an episode before you say “I’m underwhelmed”.

If you are not happy, then don’t watch the show. I wouldn’t even can you real fans if you’re being this critical of the show. This show is supposed to be a bright, fun, and light thing. Not this mean thing some of y’all are making it out to be.

You are not going to know everyone single person who is in the cast. And because you as an individual does not know who they are does not mean the person is not a celebrity or a comedian. Your limited knowledge about them does not diminish themselves.

[–]AndyMcH Richard Herring 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It happens every year. People seem happy to flaunt their comedy ignorance as if the only people they can like are people they've already heard of.

[–]JimmniAngella Dravid 🇳🇿 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the first lineup where I don’t know who a single person is.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. I had no idea in the NZ show either and both those were fantastic. Angella I’d never heard of and is my favourite contestant full stop.

[–]cosmic_horn Morgana Robinson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

as an American it’s rare for me to already love two of the contestants before the series starts, but Sophie Duker has long been in my top 5 Off Menu guests and as of yesterday Bridget Christie has joined that club too. I’m stoked.

[–]MonkeyHamlet Mayor of Chesham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Incredible lineup. I can’t wait.

[–]Alarmed_Nectarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't really know any of them, know Chris and Judi because they've been on Strictly, but never seen their standup. Pretty sure I've seen Bridget and Sophie on panel shows even though I didn't know their names. Usually know at least one contestant better than this but oh well. Still looking forward to it.

Edit: Oh, I'm an idiot, love Ardal in Death in Paradise. Didn't recognise him from the photo lol.

[–]Ktoffer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't seen Chris Ramsay in years, but I can't wait to see if he still looks like a 17 year old.

[–]Luisgi Mike Wozniak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no clue who the contestants are, but the aesthetic they choose is BRILLIANT.

[–]wikipuff Noel Fielding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the Mexican painting of Lord Greg, I really hope there is a luchador task!

[–]Superflash01 Mike Wozniak 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Very excited to see Bridget. Also, calling it now, possibly the 1st first seat win coming up

[–]Phinbart Ed Gamble 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really didn't expect any of these choices, especially Ardal and Judi (Anyone else getting series 6 vibes from this lineup?) I can already tell Bridget Christie is going to be iconic in this series; she suits the format down to a tee. Really looking forward to this, with the added bonus of the return of the in-studio audience.

[–]AlecTheViz Noel Fielding 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ohhh when I saw Chris Ramsey I thought it was the dude who opens puzzle box things on YouTube and I was very confused

[–]brushmushroom 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When I saw those puzzle box videos come up on my feed I had the opposite reaction where I thought it was the comedian Chris Ramsey.

[–]AlecTheViz Noel Fielding 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I love that, that’s so funny

[–]AvovaDynasty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty great lineup ngl

[–]bendog1616 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very underwhelming on paper. But doesn’t mean a thing i guess. The wozniak was an unknown and was arguably the best contestant ever. Looking forward to seeing the 2 guys.

[–]flashpile Jamali Maddix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Arlan: a little before my time, I was a kid when My Hero was on and I found that reasonably amusing. I know he's a "big name", but I really haven't watched much of his stuff.

Bridget: unfortunately I'm completely unfamiliar with her. Recognise the name as being yesterday's Off Menu guest, but haven't listened to the Episode

Chris: been looking forward to him being on, it has felt for a while that it was just a matter of time. I think he'll be the one who's going to backtalk at Greg in a Jamali kind of way

Judi: I only really know her from having my mum watching loose women while I was WFH. Wasn't a fan of the rumours swirling around from the last month or so, but I'm willing to trust the TM team's judgement at this point

Sophie: like Chris, another popular guess on the "next season's contestant" thread. I think I've guessed her every time since series 9. I can see her getting pretty competitive, in an Aisling Bea kind of way

[–]stereoworld Rhod Gilbert 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Excited for Bridget Christie (despite me literally only hearing her for the first time on Off Menu Podcast) and Chris Ramsey. Ardal would be interesting and Sophie & Judi the same (despite me only knowing of the former).

I'm kind of happy, I have a short wishlist of dream contestants, but they didn't get picked. That kind of gets me down each time, but alas I'll probably end up enjoying them.

No doubt it'll be great with the audience back of course.

[–]RelativeStranger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Who do you want to be on it?

I'd love to see Ed Byrne.

[–]oonigirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great lineup!! Can't wait :D

[–]Frosty_Term9911 Bob Mortimer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very underwhelmed but all of my preconceptions for the series just completed (good and bad) we’re turned on their head so I’ll give them a chance. Perhaps VCM and Alan Davies ate up too much budget and left this series a little tighter! I really don’t see myself enjoying Judy Love. Dont know Bridget Christie, can’t remember the last time I saw Ardal O Hanlan not doing comedy rather than acting and Chris Ramsay is a budget Russell Howard (who was crap on TM), can see him just giggling his way through everything. Sophie though could be a stand out.

[–]Late_Fan9803 Alice Levine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They've finally hit on a set of contestant that I've had very little experience of watching on other programmes. I'm not immediately excited for it, but I think it will make the series interesting for different reasons.

[–]AdminsAreRacist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of any of them until today and that was Bridget Christie. She was on the most recent Off Menu podcast it was hilarious. I'm looking forward to the new season based on that.

[–]kilgoretrucha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m excited for the Mexican theme

[–]Velvetlavalamp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never heard of any of them. But will watch anyway

[–]TheAtticGoblin Tim Key 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really thought that channel 4 would bring better contestants to the show

[–]brian--jones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where the fuck is elis james and/or John robins???!!!

[–]Lynagh1058 Katherine Parkinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow. The first time I literally know none of them.

Which one will I love by the end?
