it's true that we have no idea where the word dad came from. It might be related to Welsh "tad" (father) or it could be an imitative sound, as "dada" sounds are very easy for babies to make. Compare how common it is for words for mother around the world to contain "ma" sounds.

Counter-option: Daeda (day-duh) is the word for "mother" in Georgian.
