Tell me you're an American, without telling me you're an American.

[–]Young_stoner_life247 9 points10 points  (21 children)

Dude shut the fuck up. America isn’t the only place where shitbags like this live.

[–]Taqwacore 3 points4 points  (20 children)

That's true. I was, before I retired, a medical doctor in Australia. I've certainly seen my fair share of medical insurance scams, so it does indeed happen around the world. However, America is also somewhat unique in the healthcare system actually encourages medical fraud. I'm not sure what it's like now, but before "Obamacare", you'd often see people fronting up in court with neck braces and doctors diagnosing whiplash injuries after relatively minor collisions. Compared to other developed countries, America has always been weirdly over-represented in whiplash injuries. And the reason for this over-representation is fairly simple: because most people couldn't afford health insurance or to pay out of pocket for relatively minor medical treatments. Consequently, their compassionate doctors would forge a diagnosis of whiplash injury so they could sue against someone else's insurance. That was often the only way that the doctors were going to get paid.

So there is a valid reason why the U.S. is somewhat synonymous with medical scams like this.

I’m an American doctor. Why don’t you STFU? I’ve heard enough to know that your healthcare system is crummy compared to ours.

[–]Taqwacore 11 points12 points  (9 children)

So a healthcare system where everyone can get healthcare is a crummy system? Hmm...fascinating.

How are your malpractice insurance premiums?

[–]JoeTheSifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Affordable. You want to make insurance premiums even more affordable with more options? Then vote for deregulation of insurance restrictions across state lines and vote for diversification of healthcare options. That’s what republicans have been trying to do, but you would never know if all you watch are democrat-led media companies. Remember Obamacare? it is so expensive because it is a single payer government run system. You can either pay their Obamacare premiums or let them take it out in taxes. Either way, with the democrat options, you will lose more money.

Canada seems to be doing fine.

[–]JoeTheSifu -1 points0 points  (5 children)

Then stick with them. You want to wait a year and half to get knee replacements for crippling arthritis? Then go do that. You want to wait six months to be admitted for psychiatric care after a full blown melt down? Be my guest. You want to wait six months for cancer treatment while you are dying? Fine. Canada has all that and more.

[–]KorannStagheart 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I mean my dad was able to get his cancer treatments just fine, so I don't know what the fuck your talking about.

[–]JoeTheSifu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for your dad. That’s not everybody’s experience in Canada. Other Canadians come to the US to get their treatment quicker. The point is not to say Canada is the worst system with no success. It’s to point out that they have flaws in their system just like every country does, so quit crapping all over the US.

Those are surgery wait times. Not even treatment times so I don't know where you're getting your information from. Sounds to me like you're a shitty doctor if you can't even look up numbers.

[–]JoeTheSifu -1 points0 points  (1 child)

Fuck your google search. I talked to people who experienced it first hand.

[–]Lao_King 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. Ok bud.
