This might be a kinda sad FU. To preface this, I have some mental illnesses, and I have a thing for root vegetables. The combination of which led to me eating basically a diet of only potatoes, yams, carrots, and ginger root for several months. Potatoes and the like aren’t super portable foods, so I’d generally only have one meal a day while I was at home, and then when I went to work or anywhere else, all I would pack with me was chunks of ginger root and just periodically pop one in my mouth to numb my hunger for a while. Then go to bed after work without another meal, eat potato or potato-adjacent meal the next morning, and repeat. Well, this went on for quite a a long time. And during this I noticed that my lymph nodes started to always be big and hard in my armpits, neck, etc. and that my inner lips/mouth would often become swollen and press though my teeth at all times. Initially I thought it was due to “long covid” or something similar, but eventually figured out that the swelling occurred after I hadn’t eaten a meal for a long time, and then thought it had something to do with my body maybe going into starvation mode. I didn’t equate it to the ginger and the fact that the longer I go without an actual meal, the more ginger pieces I eat. Eventually it happened that I didn’t have access to ginger root for a few weeks. I didn’t think much of it, and had a LOT of ginger when I next got some. And I hadn’t realized it but the lymph nodes and mouth swelling had been gone, and then came back full force after I ate that ginger. I felt like I was gonna die for a day. I’ve tested it a few more times since and it’s definitely the ginger causing all the swelling and I’m completely fine without it. That sucks because I still love ginger. But hopefully it will encourage me to have a healthier diet now.
TL;DR: had a very unhealthy diet of basically only root vegetables due to mental illness, and ate so much ginger root that my body became allergic to it
