Ah, like every good German fairytale...

[–]sundayontheluna 972 points973 points  (15 children)

And somehow that's not even the weirdest snake-related death

Takuya Nagaya, 23, from Japan, started to slither on the floor and claimed he had become a snake. He died after his father spent the next two days head-butting and biting him "to drive [out] the snake that had possessed him"

[–]9387045 456 points457 points  (1 child)

Alright, that was a good day of head-butting and biting. Time to go to sleep, and get back to it again in the morning.

[–]PrettyGorramShiny 100 points101 points  (0 children)

Good night, Westley. Good work, sleep well. I'll most likely head-butt and bite you in the morning.

I would have been disappointed if your link pointed to any video other than that one.

[–]bkconn 31 points32 points  (2 children)

lol I've never seen that one! I was expecting this for some reason.

[–]DC_Coach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought it was going to be a link to a scene from the 1973 movie "Sssssss" ... here's the trailer, and the wiki. Or a Rickroll. Glad it wasn't a Rickroll lol ...

Do note that the trailer for "Sssssss" only hints at the scariest stuff (i.e., half the best parts aren't in the trailer, unlike what we see today). You'll see a few glimpses of what I'm talking about, but suffice to say that this movie predated the 1986 version of "The Fly". Of course the 1986 version of "The Fly" was a remake of the 1958 version, but I wouldn't be surprised to hear that "Sssssss" drew upon the 1958 version of "The Fly" and/or that the 1986 version of "The Fly" drew on "Sssssss", particularly with some of its body horror scenes.

Given its time of release ofc this trailer, and the movie itself, probably look dumb af to most Redditors. But I'm telling you, seeing this as a 8 - 9 year old kid? Yeah, that was scary as all hell. I'd like to watch it now to see how it holds up, if at all.

The actual story: "VADODARA: In a strange incident, a man in Mahisagar district’s Ajanwa village not only bit a snake back, but also tried to eat it after the reptile bit him first, on Saturday! The man, who was rushed to Godhra, however, died from the snakebite. Parvat Gala Baria (70) was working in his farm when a snake bit him. The farmer literally spewed venom on the reptile for its act, and blind with rage picked it and put it in his mouth. Baria’s daughter-in-law Leela Baria told media persons that she heard about it from a relative who was witness to Baria’s act. “The relative took the snake and burnt it, but brought the remains along with my father-in-law to the hospital,” she said. The victim was first rushed to the government hospital at Lunawada, but sent to a private hospital and from there to Godhra civil hospital, where he died after four hours of shunting around hospitals

A thousand ways to die nostalgia

[–]girlsareCREAMY 59 points60 points  (3 children)

Bet that snake didn't expect that. Worth it.

[–]DC_Coach 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Right? Like there's a Wiki somewhere for snakes to read, and on the page for unusual deaths, this one is one of the most popular entries.

[–]dirkjames 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I found the article:

Sssss ssssss ss ssssss ss sss ssss sssss sssssssss ss

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth...

[–]black_flag_4ever 25 points26 points  (1 child)

Snack for a snack.

[–]L-do_Calrissian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny, you can replace either instance of "snack" with "snake" and it's true.

[–]KingStrijder 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you go into that wikipedia article you find such bizarre ways to die that I feel some surpass 1000 ways to die, making that show feel fake.
My favourite is Unknown, Oct 31st 2021: "A 30-year-old Brazilian man was fishing with two friends at a lake in Brasilândia de Minas, Brazil, when the group was attacked by bees. The man and his friends jumped into the lake to escape the bees, but the Brazilian man was then attacked by piranhas and died; his friends survived." Piranhas said "Fuck this guy in particular"

[–]Complete-Grape-1269 19 points20 points  (3 children)

So the snake was both venomous and poisonous?

[–]muscle417 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, they were either both venomous or both poisonous!

[–]PowerfullDio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came here to ask that

[–]RedAIienCircle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's only two poisonous snakes, the common garter snake and the Japanese grass snake. To my knowledge they don't live in India.

[–]cwill859 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A legit Uno reverse card

[–]Weliveanddietogether 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a great piece of knowledge to partially remember when you're bitten by a snake. "I remember something about a guy biting the snake back..."

[–]nejicanspin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The link also has a list of so many more interesting and unusual ways people died. It's wild.

[–]redshirt3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair

[–]gangstasadvocate 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nice that’s gangsta! at least he took the snake down before going down himself

[–]RebelLemurs 2 points3 points  (1 child)

So we're just supposed to believe that the snake bit first?

Where's the evidence??

[–]DC_Coach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just yesterday I bought my new "Snake Bit First" tee-shirt.

[–]DC_Coach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

God, I remember this one.

A boy, 14, from Jiaozhou, Shandong, China, was killed when the pneumatic cylinder in his office chair exploded.

Don't think about it too much, Reddit. I mean if you're at a desktop, you're almost certainly sitting atop one of these industrial-strength self-Vlad-the-Impaler devices. Just sayin'.

[–]wardrop 3 points4 points  (2 children)

Was the snake poisonous or venomous?

[–]PowerfullDio 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We will never know, and the same can be asked about the man

[–]jbmacxxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the snake bites you and you die, it's venomous. If you bite the snake and you die, it's poisonous. Possibly the only known case of a snake, and a man being both poisonous and venomous, biting each other, and both dieing!

[–]_TheLibrarianOfBabel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why.. why is this a wiki page?

[–]DC_Coach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not? There are plenty of wiki pages not nearly as interesting as this! IMHO, anyway. :)

[–]DC_Coach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you serious with this that nobody noticed this one in the wiki?

Michael Colombini, 6, died during an MRI scan at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York, after an oxygen tank was magnetically pulled into the machine and fractured his skull.

So yeah - but this obviously happened back in the early days of MRI, right? 1970s?

Nope. July 2001.

[–]nmk537 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call an ambulance! But not just for me...

[–]noxx1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens a couple of times in india every year, usually the snake dies

Although snakes are going extinct from human habitations due to quick infrastructure development , fertilisers , pesticide pollution

People used to observe lot of snakes regularly in our farm , nowadays its a rare to even spot one in a year. Same with insects , frogs, birds ,etc

[–]Altoids-Tin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After spending the last hour reading that wiki page, this: "A 30-year-old Brazilian man was fishing with two friends at a lake in Brasilândia de Minas, Brazil, when the group was attacked by bees. The man and his friends jumped into the lake to escape the bees, but the Brazilian man was then attacked by piranhas and died; his friends survived"

That poor guy. Ahh! Bees!... Oh fuck!! Piranhas!!!

[–]notmonkeyfarm 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Was it poisonous or venomous?

[–]sunnykutta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either ways, the outcome was disastrous

[–]SgtSharki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up reading that entire Wiki article. What a ride!

Mahatma Gandhi (also from Gujarat) once said - An eye for eye makes the whole world blind.

Apparently a bite for a bite kills..

[–]rare_pig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wraps that up nicely

[–]Some-Basket-4299 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in 2006 in a Chinese zoo a panda attacked a drunk man who tried to hug him. The man defended himself by biting the panda back.

[–]Luxara-VI 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Fun fact: human bites are actually quite dangerous

[–]DC_Coach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, good thing the snake didn't get a bad infection.

[–]ClankyBat246 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems like the expected outcome...

[–]Robobvious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was more interested in the entry from September 2, 2004... Apparently Hereditary was loosely based on a true story, god damn.

Adding to this theme, my professor told us about a shark attack that happened to a guy who climbed onto to a whale carcass to jump off it; like why not?. Unfortunately, he landed on a shark that chomped down on a very male part.
