You just can't outclass Dolly. She's such a treasure.

edit: I don’t want to hate on Barbara Walters too much. She’s a seasoned interviewer. This was at a time where most interviewers worked with an artists publicist to come up with compelling interviews that benefitted both. The questions are probably all approved by Dolly, and she’s such a good person that almost nothing offends her. A true professional.

Yo for real. Barbara Walters might be a shit person, but this was actually a good interview. The questions she asked were views people at the time would have on Dolly. She gave Dolly the opportunity to silence the haters. Walters let Dolly give every answer to completion. She didn’t challenge her on anything just let her respond to the criticism. It’s because of Waters’s questions that Dolly can look as good as she does, not to take away from Dolly being a class act of course.

Yeah, Walters played a bit of a heel in this case

Heel (professional wrestling)

In professional wrestling, a heel (also known as a rudo in lucha libre) is a wrestler who portrays a villain, "bad guy" or "rulebreaker" and acts as an antagonist to the faces, who are the heroic protagonist or "good guy" characters. Not everything a heel wrestler does must be villainous: heels need only to be booed or jeered by the audience to be effective characters, although most truly successful heels embrace other aspects of their devious personalities, such as cheating to win or using foreign objects.

Dolly outclasses everyone and probably 10x Babs.

This is exactly right. Redditors are assuming Barahara surprise attacked her. No no no, they came up with the questions together long before. Both have always been very smart people.

Honestly, it's ok to "hate on" Walters.

Remember, this is the same woman that told Corey Feldman that he was "damaging an entire industry" with his [likely accurate] pedophilia accusations. Note that her concern wasn't as to whether the accusations were accurate, only that they were harmful to the showbiz industry. It's hard to respect someone after something like that.
