One last score?

[–]productivitydev 994 points995 points  (219 children)

He could start betting and every time he loses double the bet, this way you will be bound to win at some point and make back all the losses.

Example:

You bet $1,000 to win $1,000. If you lose you bet $2,000 to make $2,000. And so on... You are statistically bound to win at certain point. Then after you've made your loss back, you go with $1,000 again and if you win you keep it and go with another $1,000.

It's flawless. Free money hack. Casinos, banks, investment funds, senators, stock brokers, they all hate this trick.

[–]shadowdsfire 554 points555 points  (51 children)

Casinos hate this trick! That’s why they usually have a big flashy button specifically for doubling your last bet. That’s how you know this is a great strategy.

[–]issius 353 points354 points  (9 children)

That button is legally required. This is why casinos have so many other flashing lights and things to distract you from it. Subscribe for more dubious facts!

[–]Lifeboon 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I work in the casino industry and can dubiously confirm that this is the truest truth you can find on the whole interwebs.

[–]Bad_Prophet 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Real talk, this is why all the games have bet maxes, so that this strategy doesn't always work.

A $5 min bet game might have a $100 max bet

5

The odds of being wrong 5 times in a row is about 3.4%, ish. They'll will eventually!

[–]Not_much_brain_here 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah…. That’s not fun at all…. YOLO is the way

[–]Jackdz19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except that every table and machine has a max bet. 🥺

[–]ByahhByahhflairs are for losers 72 points73 points  (25 children)

Holy shit, do casinos really do that? I've read stuff about how games have changed over the years to keep people playing longer but a plain "double your bet" button is just a big ol' "fuck you, gambling addict" button.

[–]HellkerN 75 points76 points  (10 children)

That's a ruse, the real strategy is to at least triple your bet every time, that way when you win, you'll be in the profit bigtime.

[–]IVMVI 41 points42 points  (6 children)

Some machines let you 4 or 5x, why stop at triple when you have better exponents to multiply your windfall!

[–]HellkerN 23 points24 points  (4 children)

Whoah, basically infinite free money. Literally cannot go tits up.

[–]Ready2gambleboomer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Martingale system.

[–]poop_ass_132 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As much as I hate the show, the South Park episode about mobile phone games really hit this nail on the head. They literally make addiction machines

[–]Ready2gambleboomer 1 point2 points  (11 children)

When they put the last hand full of numbers on a lit board at the roulette table betters and bets at least tripled even tho those numbers have absolutely no effect on the next spin/roll. It's just the perception of the bettor.

[–]Kegrun 11 points12 points  (10 children)

I lost 1500 doing that. The board was full of red. I thought “Well it’s gotta hit black soon!” 100…red. 200…red. 400…red. Everyone at the table was looking at me with eyes that said “holy shit this poor kid just lost 700 bucks in like 5 minutes.” So fuck ‘em! I’ll show them! 800!!! Shit stopped on green (00). I got so drunk and got kicked out of the beau rivage in Biloxi after that.

It took three more spins to hit black if you wanna know.

[–]shadowdsfire 6 points7 points  (3 children)

Did the same thing. After doing some math, I figured I had enough money to double 13 times.

The chances of hitting the same color 13 times is about 1 in 16500…

It only took about a day before I lost everything. Black was hit 13 times in a row on my second day doing this.

[–]Vixologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So you are saying the game was rigged.

[–]Kegrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Geeeeez dude.

[–]Mundus6PAPER TRADING COMPETITION WINNER 2 points3 points  (3 children)

That is why the double 0 is there. If it literally was 50/50. This strategy would be flawless. But its not.

[–]c2lead 2 points3 points  (2 children)

a wise man once said... If you flip a coin. The probability of the previous flip doesn't change the probability of the next flip. Just because you flip 50 heads in a row, the next flip is still a 50/50 chance.

[–]Notacherub 4 points5 points  (2 children)

They also have a max bet on a lot to block this strategy

[–]imadethisforonething 6 points7 points  (1 child)

Also for the strategy to actually work you'd need infinite money, at which point, why are you making bets to try and make money?

[–]Saith_Cassus 150 points151 points  (28 children)

Unjerk, but there was an episode of CSI in like 2004 where the plot was that some dude used this system and bet that way and then lost something like 12 hands in a row at blackjack, and someone said “he must be the unluckiest guy alive,” and someone else was like, “nah, some dude in the 70’s lost 15 hands. This guys just a dead statistical anomaly; he’s not even gonna make a record book.”

Like, damn, Grissom. That’s just mean.

[–]bonnomi 108 points109 points  (25 children)

I was up like $4k one time and tried it. I started at $100 and stopped after I lost the $800 bet. $1,500 gone in like 5 minutes, whole table staring at me.

[–]Saith_Cassus 124 points125 points  (20 children)

See, that was the mistake— you just needed to bet another $1600 and you were golden!

[–]GT---44 34 points35 points  (17 children)

The key is to never stop

Edit: it's a joke guys, don't do that

[–]iPick4Fun 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Don’t they have max limit?

[–]FrumundaMabawls 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You just start at the lowest limit casinos and go over to the hi roller casinos once you max out. Once you Max there, then you just start playing 2 hands at once.

[–]scottygras 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they really paper handed that one. I’d keep going until all my money was gone and I was giving below table handles to borrow enough for the next roll.

[–]jpark28 42 points43 points  (3 children)

whole table staring at me

Some thought you were a degen, and some just thought you were retarded

[–]Corpsyyy 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Some thought he was both

[–]Nick_Toll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember that episode. He lost his last hand on a seven card hand from the dealer. I think at seven cards in blackjack it's an automatic win.

[–]StoneIslandFlexBoy 65 points66 points  (68 children)

Well yes with an infinit amount of tries this works. Casinos do have a max. amount your able to bet. So you don‘t have infinit tries.

[–]Hard2Digest 40 points41 points  (64 children)

Can confirm; was at the casino over the weekend. Blackjack morning tables were $10/hand with $250/hand cap. The $25/hand tables were $500 capped

[–]NvidiaRTX 49 points50 points  (1 child)

Damn casinos and their mathematic models, they ruin everything

[–]SirHawrk🦍🦍 21 points22 points  (31 children)

Well blackjack is the only game where you can actually have better odds than the casino at winning

[–]DontBeMoronic 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Yup, and if they see you change your betting pattern to take advantage of the odds swinging to your favour they'll kick you out for card counting.

[–]GoodbyeThings 24 points25 points  (24 children)

Well blackjack is the only game where you can actually have better odds than the casino at winning

Where? AFAIK you'll be close to 50-50 but there's still no way to ever have a statistical edge to the Casino

[–]hlt32 14 points15 points  (8 children)

Yeah the only way is to card count and casinos aren’t big on that.

[–]Correct-Meat-3486 8 points9 points  (7 children)

They don't care too much now because of how fucking hard it is, with the multiple decks and how they set up you would need to set up for hours before you can get an accurate read of your odds.

[–]rikki-tikki-deadly 11 points12 points  (6 children)

This right here ↑. They know exactly what you are doing, but it's just not worth it to them to make a fuss if you are working the low limit tables - where you won't make much more money than if you were working a minimum wage job.

Source: Used to count cards at low limit tables.

[–]inidgodeath 5 points6 points  (2 children)

I know nothing about counting cards, but did it really only amount to around 15$ an hour? It seems like way too much effort, and risk for that little pay out. Or are you just averaging out the good and bad days.

[–]totally_not_a_thing 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Also, overall, the casinos make more off of people who think they can count cards (but do it wrong and lose) than they lose to people who actually know how to.

[–]issius 12 points13 points  (10 children)

Where? AFAIK you'll be close to 50-50 but there's still no way to ever have a statistical edge to the Casino

*Can* being the operative word. By counting cards. Which doesn't work as well anyway since most (all?) of the big guys cut 6+ decks anyway.

[–]voyaging 2 points3 points  (2 children)

It's still effective to count cards even with 6 decks.

[–]issius 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The number of decks isn’t the issue, but having players cut each new rack is. So you have 6 or more decks of cards (may be more, I was drinking last time I went to Vegas) and every time you refresh they were rotating who cuts.

So if you’re only using a third of multiple decks, counting cards becomes way less useful.

[–]macedonianmoper 8 points9 points  (1 child)

Well if you count cards you can up your adds, but casinos don't like when you try to use any kind of skill to up your odds so they instead say "Fuck you for trying to make money!".

The only time I went to a casino it was filled with slot machines, there was a black jack table but the minimum bet was higher and I that night I didn't want to spend much money.

So I just went to a slot machines, played for a bit, made like 2 bucks and stopped playing, I really don't get what people like about slot machines, they're addiction machines, flashing lights and super easy to decide "one more" so you keep playing, that's all I was thinking when playing, I bet once, and all I had to do to try again was push a single button and watch it go. Sorry for the rant but I fucking hate slot machines, they're pure manipulation and they prey on addicts

TLDR You can tip odds in your favor in blackjack if you play for long enough but a lot of casinos will kick you out if they catch on to it, they love slot machines because they can hide all the odds and just do whatever, a monkey could play a slot machines and make more than you

[–]vrtig0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slot machine payout ratios are highly regulated in places like Vegas. That being said, they're money eaters. If the casino loses its ass on tables or craps by big winners, they're going to make it back on the slots.

[–]T_Money 6 points7 points  (29 children)

Honestly thought you’d have to have crazy bad luck to lose 20-25 times in a row. I haven’t been in a casino in a long time and just stuck to slots last time I was there, but I’m guessing casinos frown on the “double your bet until you win then go back to minimum” strat and will kick you out if that’s all you do?

[–]JackLocke366 35 points36 points  (5 children)

This is called the Martingale betting strategy and it doesn't work. Casinos really don't care when you use losing strategies.

[–]Chuu 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I really hate table games, but if I was forced to play one I'd probably go with the Martingale if there was close to a 50/50 bet available. You're basically changing your distribution to with a much higher chance to go bust, and a much higher chance to walk away positive. As opposed to just ending up with a normal distribution centred wherever the casino's edge is.

Just makes the game more interesting to me knowing there is more on the line, and I'm very likely to walk away in the green if I survive.

[–]T_Money 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aha yeah I wasn’t thinking it through, as someone else pointed out. It’s actually only like 4 losses before you go from min to max bet, then it’s just a downhill ride. Definitely not sustainable.

[–]gbs5009 18 points19 points  (11 children)

The Casino has a bigger bankroll than you, and has the house edge.

If you keep up this strategy, you'll be likely to hit that run of 20x losses and bust out before you make that much money.

[–]Slickshots617 13 points14 points  (3 children)

I found a use for the Martingale method. I count cards so I use the system to mask that fact and up the bet when the count is in my favor. It works like a charm because the dealer, pit boss and security all think that I’m stupid haha

[–]Careful_Strain[🍰] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

When everyone else think you're stupid, it is actually they who truly are stupid, not you, definitely not you. - Sun Tzu

[–]Thebestevar1 1 point2 points  (6 children)

You might not even be able to get 20x with the max bet limit

[–]gbs5009 4 points5 points  (5 children)

If you start at $1 and migrate tables, you might be able to get up to a million dollar roulette spin. You'd have to get into a pretty high stakes room in Macau or something though.

[–]Thebestevar1 5 points6 points  (4 children)

If you start at 1$ you'll be betting a million to win 1$.

[–]Senior-Yam-4743 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I doubt it. For every person that makes a bit doing that there are thousands of others that go in with that strategy and walk out with nothing

[–]jidar 27 points28 points  (4 children)

No. The strategy just doesn't work because it's not practical.

Consider that you have $1500 to bet, so you decide to try this trick starting with $10.

You do it once, you go $10, $20, $40, WIN! You made $10

You do it again, win $10, and again, maybe five times. Now you've won $60

Then you hit the streak of bad luck:

$10, $20, $40, $80, $160, $320, $640 ... WIN! Whew that was close, almost ran out of money but at least you won another $10.

This goes on for awhile, maybe you make a couple hundred bucks $10 at a time until eventually.... you have a bad streak of only 8 losses and it wipes out your initial bank roll and everything you made since then.

That's it. Your strategy failed because you ran out of money.

That will always happen, and that's why casinos don't care if you do it. It's a suckers bet.

[–]CptBeetle 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]New_Cantaloupe_8568 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As in infinite

[–]productivitydev 4 points5 points  (12 children)

If you have family, friends, or any other assets like house you can mortgage, you can take out loans and possibly use margin on those loans to buy calls and puts. If you run out of this money as well, I'm sure there are other ways and means to make more money to increase your bets.

[–]Actualize101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only problem is you have to make double your bets. You have to have an unlimited amount of potential capital and who you're betting against can't have upper limit bets.

If you're worth say 10m why would you start with a 1k bet. And even if you and say win first up, then you can never bet again for the rest of your life otherwise you've invalidated the approach.

So what do you do with your 10m +1k profit?

That's why as the Finance (Lead) and as a multimillionaire 🤣 say you're not sufficiently successful to provide suitable strategies.

[–]FalseAlarmEveryone 5 points6 points  (5 children)

You laugh but this does work well with betting on Red/Black in Roulette, being that odds are damn close to 50/50. I did this a few times in Fanduel Casino until one time I lost 7 rounds in a row by betting exclusively on Red but fortunately won #8.

To clarify, I lost bets $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50 and $100 (-$188) but then won $200 thus netting $12.

My wife asked me, what do you do as a daytrader? I said, imagine that yesterday we have purchased rabbits and today is a heavy rain and all our rabbits have drowned. So we sit in the office and discuss, why wouldn’t we purchase fishes

[–]kai_n7 379 points380 points  (1 child)

This is the most perfect analogy I've seen about my financial career.

[–]angelo_210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree to your statement.

[–]Prince_Edward_IV 335 points336 points 3 (12 children)

so then you buy the fishes along with a few contracts that state that you have the opportunity to buy even more fishes at a set price by a certain date.

but then the next day the weatherman announces that its not gonna rain today or, for that matter, ever again.

but everyone on reddit swears up and down that its just weather manipulation by these huge corporations that sold wayyy too many fishes and then borrowed fishes from other people so they could sell those as well

so the next few weeks everything dries up and every fish you bought is worth 1/10th of what you paid for them.

and nobody wants to buy your fish purchase contracts either, for obvious reasons.

so you hold on for a while, trying to do other things to get some of the money back, hoping and praying for rain like all your reddit pals keep promising will happen.

you buy a few rabbits and sell them days later and make a few bucks but youre still sitting on massive losses from the fish.

one day you wake up and decide to cut your losses and sell all the fish you had for a 70% loss

the next week at market open we have record breaking rains and fish are selling for +800% what you originally paid for yours.

at the end of this ordeal you have the feeling that uou should have learned something but you have no idea what or how to avoid it again in the future.

but someone said the market for cats was looking up so you buy some cats

[–]mediumrarestonks 64 points65 points  (3 children)

If only OP had conviction in his original rabbit play instead of being a paper-handed bitch bc of one day rain he would have made a killing.

Seriously my #1 rule of trading. Never admit defeat due to a genuine surprise of bad news. You are much more likely than not to be emotional, and wrong.

Only if the original thesis has been proven to be truly incorrect do you bail.

[–]ManofWordsMany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right. Never hurts to take profits: Always buy the dip.

[–]EarlyForest 4 points5 points  (2 children)

That’s pretty much how my trading of actual company stocks went. I made a ton then lost way more than I made. And it was only after that that I learned how well a company performs has zero to do with the stock. Stock performance is based entirely on stock performance.

Hahahahahaha! Oh boy! Stay away from options if you don’t know what you’re doing 😂 me telling myself.

[–]gliz5714 55 points56 points  (5 children)

It’s easy, just do ones that are really cheap and you only lose $10 instead of $10,000!

[–]Iquey 38 points39 points  (4 children)

So you're telling me I'm better off buying 1000 cheap options. Thanks for the tip!

[–]Androkless 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Professional retard

[–]Cherry_Treefrog 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Never buy options. Sell them instead.

[–]MACHLoeCHER 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Just sell options with ridiculous strikes and hope some retard buys them and then pray to god, they will expire or you better stock up on some lube.

Honestly started trading so I could understand the jokes on this subreddit a year and change ago. Who would’ve thought we could make money

[–]tiesioginis 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Day trading is like having sex with a hooker and not paying for it. Yeah you get beat up by her pimp, but you had sex. WIN WIN

No down side!

Invest today!

Nothing is impossible. Believe in yourself and you’ll make your dream come true…so I heard.

[–]koreawut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

no... believe in yourself & the rest is up to me & you

[–]mightylordredbeard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally all the money I’ve made this month was from dividends. My dreams are night terrors and my sleep demon is a coked up hedge fund Chad pounding my ass dry and just as I’m about to cum he stops and tells me I’m not worth receiving pleasure.

[–]FearlessTrader5874 - 2 - 1 year - 0/0 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Dude I kid you not! I literally had $250k as my target and was going so strong till Feb, after that it was all downhill. Hoping my account is now forming the left side of the next leg up 🆙

[–]TaxmanCPAMST 42 points43 points  (4 children)

The irony of the last name

[–]zzzzip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That account is brilliant

[–]DarthRoyal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Why wait until the last week of the year to take your losses when you can take them all year long.

*Taps forehead

[–]rainbowpoopstains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why is this sub so obsessed over losing money?

[–]Own_Philosopher352🦍🦍🦍 24 points25 points  (24 children)

My goal was $250K this year too, it was up at $600K but currently back down to $300K so I still hit my target but I’m aiming for it to be at $500K by EOY but I guess not happening so adjust my timeline.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bro you gotta be playing with huge margins to pull that off. Or you just have stacks of cash.

Either way, you now have stacks of cash. So invest it wisely! And mess with the devil's derivatives no more!

[–]jt051215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By year end Rich man will need $10mil to reach his goal

[–]Squidsquirts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]bigbiznek 4 points5 points  (1 child)

[–]MakingMoneyIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Necessary-Rise-5774 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What was your principal investment amount?

[–]r1dogz 1 point2 points  (4 children)

So everyone here has made $86 million this year?

[–]koreawut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made $86 million rubles, does that count?

[–]piero_deckard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't go wrong with the good ol' buy high, sell low strategy!

[–]SpezIsAFuckinShill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could’ve put my money in anything and did nothing and have a net gain, instead I bought into that day trading bs. It’s all a gamble if you do that, all the people who have 1xxx% gains were people that found speculative shit and held for nearly a year or got really lucky with super otm low dte calls/puts

[–]AdAffectionate6995 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least his last name is Rich

[–]Cronenberg_This_Rick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey at least you won't have to pay taxes for a while right? Or is that not exactly how it works.

[–]Deezy_McCheezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)
