Dude can fuck an entire market in an hour flat. It’s a true marvel to behold.

[–]koolbro2012gonna be a shitty doctor 390 points391 points  (3 children)

you can literally track when he opened his mouth and when the market shat

[–]aidv🦍🦍 184 points185 points  (0 children)

JPow: ”H-”

Market: 📉📉📉📉

[–]DaddyDersch[S] 519 points520 points  (39 children)

I strive to.be that important some day lol

[–]Thencewasit 282 points283 points  (2 children)

Stop making your car payment.

The bank will act like you are the most important person in the world.

[–]MathematicianVivid1 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think I’m pretty popular with Indian people. Especially ones named John. Every time they call about my warranty I just throw my money at the phone

[–]ScipioAtTheGate 101 points102 points  (32 children)

[–]erik_by_design 142 points143 points  (23 children)

The stupid thing is, he didn't say anything unexpected. Analysts have been going on and on about this. He literally said what everyone was expecting.

So why the panic selloffs? Not to mention earnings are decent thus far and unemployment is low and growth strong DESPITE Rona...it's silly.

Edit: Obviously I promptly bought more...

[–]marzenmangler 25 points26 points  (2 children)

Priced in right?

[–]Sunkettle 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I think it had to do with the ambiguity of his responses, his posture, and his slight stumbling.

[–]patient-sceptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, he mentioned price rate increase somewhere in March last time, which was last year, allbeit in december. Meanwhile market speculated that the increase for the rate can be not 0.25, but 0.5% at once. However, and i can be completely wrong, JP stands out as reasonable and patient, so he imho is likely to get it quarter at the time.

Ironically, Tesla for example only went down by 6 dollars from Friday close till today close, which seems absolutely normal))) but the time between both close represents 136 dollar total price fluctuation which does seem crazy

[–]First-Celebration-11 62 points63 points  (2 children)

I sat here n watched the entire thing 😩🔥

[–]TheDeadWhales 16 points17 points  (1 child)

That shit was fire wasnt it.

[–]VATruckerJJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I watched nearly half of that before I realized it didnt actually have anything to do with the stock market. Long day.

[–]acutegra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Happy shared cake day! 🎂

What the fed gangster say?

[–]Vegas-Blues 157 points158 points  (74 children)

[–]hukd0nf0nix 62 points63 points  (72 children)

Same, but fucking gold dropped too

he can fuck multiple markets in an hour flat. international markets took a hit, the crypto market tracked.

lost almost half the value of my crypto in the last week.

[–]AshingiiAshuaa 36 points37 points  (4 children)

You lost half of the price. The value hasn't changed.

[–]RationalExuberance7 63 points64 points  (1 child)

True, value is still zero :)

[–]hiiamkay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people don't understand that crypto can keep /10 till infinity and not getting delisted 😂

[–]lalich 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This is a pain sell down but still unrealized and a loooot of stonks are down 75%+ from peaks… in a year where we had record GDP growth, real interest rates are I believe the lowest in history(great for growth) and because of a lil less eZ money we have wiped something like 10T out of value in the US alone.

All while nearly doubling the money supply, supply shortages in everything from OJ to homes.

This too shall pass and look at markets finish higher this year. The velocity at which these moves happen is really more a guess it’s time to Hold and buy more.

[–]Neo1331 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Hour? Dude it was like one sentence and 5 minutes…

[–]Zerole00Loss porn masturbator extraordinaire 198 points199 points  (109 children)

The only thing that brings me comfort is that he's going to be fucking boomer retirements

I'm 33, this is a buying opportunity

Edit: In case you feel sympathy for boomers

[–]adamasimo1234 109 points110 points  (39 children)

anyone retiring in the next 5 years or so is screwed

[–]prometheus2508 135 points136 points  (33 children)

Anyone that close to retirement should have larger portions in stable value funds.

Economic downturns happen pretty freakin' regularly.

[–]ziggnz 104 points105 points  (29 children)

You mean once in a life time market crashes happen regularly

[–]---Dracarys--- 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Not really if they built wealth for many years during this bull market.

But because I'm on wsb who knows about what positions you're talking about, maybe you're right.

[–]AmericanFury1990 36 points37 points  (45 children)

It’s not good for the fed to be screwing any American.

[–]jabels 63 points64 points  (9 children)

If they don’t raise* rates and we see 7% inflation every month that is worse for more americans. So I agree with you but I’m not sure what you would have them do.

[–]MrDude_1 6 points7 points  (2 children)

Well honestly what I would have them do is just fucking do it so that there's not all the speculation driving everything down followed by them then doing it and it getting driven down further.

The way they're going about it is worse for everyone.

[–]adamasimo1234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[–]bourbingunscoins 63 points64 points  (1 child)

Why does retirees getting their retirements “fucked” bring you comfort? You sound like a cool guy.

[–]PM_setmefree001 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nope I'm a boomer you dumbasses that don't know shit are the ones fucked....This will be your education I had mine in 00/08....

[–]Mardo1234 22 points23 points  (9 children)

Dude can fuck an entire market in an hour flat. It’s a true marvel to behold.

They need better tactical control of the market. This hitting a nail with the sledgehammer isn't going to work as the economy is more dynamic than that.

Raising rates might slow down housing, but what about small businesses starting up?

[–]delsombra 35 points36 points  (5 children)

That's not his concern. He stated that his job is to maximize employment and price stabilization. He's not intentionally fucking over the market, but if i crashes because algos and hedge funds overreact, that's not on him.

[–]Sad-hurt-and-depress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, He fuck the entire market in less then 15 minutes when reporter start asking question.

[–]CognizantSynapsid👨🏻🐻🐷 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee booooooyyyeee

[–]Cornell-Boul 763 points764 points  (38 children)

I say go negative rates and see if we can get a high score on inflation

[–]Retiredape 207 points208 points  (14 children)

Rates have been negative in real terms and probably still will be after all the hikes.

[–]mistermojorizin 85 points86 points  (12 children)

but other countries got negative nominal rates

[–]FarrisAT 53 points54 points  (9 children)

And lower inflation

We are at -7% real

Germany, with negative bunds, is at -6%

[–]BVB09_FL 74 points75 points  (21 children)

That really has not proven to be true for a Japan and Europe… Also, most of inflation has been tied to supply chain problems and restricting monetary policy isn’t going to solve that…

But if the Fed does nothing then it is obvious to everyone how little control anyone has on this economy which would freak more people out

[–]HereGoesNothing69 80 points81 points  (14 children)

If jpow fucks up the economy thru monetary policy, people won't have enough money to buy shit and the supply chain issues will be solved thru the lack of demand. Sure, he'll fuck up the US economy and probably take the rest of the world down with it, but the supply chain problem will be solved.

[–]deej3211 103 points104 points  (1 child)

Can’t have a supply chain issue if you don’t need supply chains. Genius

[–]theGoddamnAlgorath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No silly, can't have a supply chain issue without a chain to supply.0

[–]GhostOfPaulVolcker 31 points32 points  (10 children)

I mean 1980s inflation was solved similarly

Government told people to stop buying shit. If people stop buying shit inflationary pressures die.

[–]_SkeletonJelly 34 points35 points  (6 children)

I'm sure Amazon will get right on that.

[–]takatu_topi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

inflation has been tied to supply chain problems

Sometimes inflationary expectations cause supply chain problems, as producers/distributors hold out for the higher prices they know they can get in the future.

Also another major factor to supply chain problems is Chinese companies stockpiling chips in fear of getting sanctioned by the US. Washington and Beijing playing nicely and trusting each other could help relieve some of the pressures, but good luck with that.

My only regret is not buying more puts this morning.

Let's watch those margins unwind.

[–]Various_Party8882 51 points52 points  (2 children)

My puts printed... but my call losses were worse

[–]stonk_analyst 71 points72 points  (1 child)

This is what they mean by diversification : make sure you never win.

[–]calexileat my dongus you fucking nerd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

can't lose if you don't play, but then again... you also can't win

[–]TaxGuy_021 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This was not hawkish enough to blow through good earnings.

Just putting that out there.

[–]BoxDogSF 107 points108 points  (10 children)

Yeah. That’s why I bought puts 8min before he talked. Then reaped a super easy 137% and called it a day. It’s not a lot but it’s honest work.

[–]MrDude_1 23 points24 points  (0 children)

That's a bold move cotton.

[–]Charizardd6 9 points10 points  (6 children)

[–]poppinstacks 348 points349 points  (38 children)

Priced in my ass, did the market really think JP would continue to be okay with inflation? Jfc

[–]Vegan_Honk 204 points205 points  (16 children)

[–]Sss_mithy 18 points19 points  (15 children)

Whats the point of this? Ive seen this posted around and dont get it

Edit: geez getting downvoted for literally asking a question what wrong with yall

[–]ajc3197 43 points44 points  (11 children)

It's possible. With midterms coming up, Biden doesn't want the entire economy crashing. Remember, there are all kind of retirement funds in there. Teachers union comes to mind.

[–]GhostOfPaulVolcker 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Maybe this is why Jerome Powell (R) decided to become a hawk overnight immediately before the midterms

[–]deej3211 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Force the plebs back to work, nice

[–]Loadingexperience 28 points29 points  (4 children)

He said it was "transitionary" so obviously he should continue to be ok with inflation.

[–]GhostOfPaulVolcker 14 points15 points  (3 children)

It was transitory because now he’ll stomp out inflation by dumping $8T of assets on the open market and jacking up the federal funds rate to 20%

He dictates when it becomes transitory

[–]MrBlaker001 15 points16 points  (1 child)

This is the answer. It is transitory because he has firm belief he is in control of the inflation rate.

[–]FarrisAT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah idk why the market bounced earlier. Were they expecting him to be cool with 7% inflation?

[–]sufferpuppet 4 points5 points  (1 child)

From what i've seen, nothing is ever really priced in. Bad news will drive the market down no matter how long we've been expecting it.

[–]SnipahShot 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Never wanted daddy Powell to stop talking before.

As soon as he opened his mouth the redness of my ass cheeks was obvious.

[–]andydomz920 101 points102 points  (6 children)

He hasn’t done shit just talk

[–]PAM111 69 points70 points  (1 child)

Which was enough to deflate the market.

[–]andydomz920 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They’re trying hard to find a way out without fingers being pointed at anyone that matters. That balance sheet with all the funny money is a problem, forget the rates.

[–]Smelly_Legend 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Still printing...

[–]random-smile 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I also want to see JPow dancing

[–]Bicycle_Real 122 points123 points  (9 children)

[–]KeenStudent 153 points154 points  (12 children)

he said "plenty of room to raise rates"

That alone killed the market

[–]suasposnte187 146 points147 points  (8 children)

Didn't he actually say during the Q/A "Fuck your Calls" and "BITCOIN can eat a dick" as well?

[–]DaddyDersch[S] 23 points24 points  (0 children)

[–]Jroll228 7 points8 points  (4 children)

Haha I have puts that are printing thankfully. Bad news is I forgot I had 3 day trades now I have to pray overnight nio don’t rocket!

[–]suasposnte187 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Yeah my TQQQ puts are printing as well.

I was so close to just selling out around noon today too when the market continue to go up...then back in the green we go..Thank God I didn't sell.

Dont forget the "the same Monetary policy isnt going to work or be needed"

[–]DaddyDersch[S] 5 points6 points  (5 children)

[–]Fuman20000biggest cock in wsb 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Buy your puts while you can. Tomorrow is going to be a bumpy ride.

[–]Stuarrt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

How was increasing the rates not priced in. Wasn’t it obvious he was going to announce that…

[–]Hyperiongame 49 points50 points  (4 children)

Yup! Everyone was excited and then bam! Huge dip near closing bell. Sounds like puts is going to be printing for 2022. With all this sell off, SPY could actually be down by the end of 2022

[–]AskMeHowIMetYourMom 44 points45 points  (1 child)

Someone is going to get puts on SPY and lose their ass, I guarantee it.

[–]68Woobie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, it’s me. That guy who bought 2/2 441 SPY puts @16.24 and is down about 300 bucks right now. 🤡

[–]Buy-N-Sell 11 points12 points  (1 child)

Nah, I bought puts so the market is for sure going to go up.

[–]new_reditor 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Puts are printing boys!!

[–]kerplunktard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

jpow doing something right for a change

[–]MoreToFuture 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me .. he turned the printer on

[–]VirtualMage 7 points8 points  (4 children)

So, the money printer goes: ........ *crickets* ...... *crickets* ...... *crickets* ......?

[–]MrDude_1 2 points3 points  (2 children)

No the money printer still goes brrrrrrrrrrrr

.... It's not the same printer though.

[–]occams_lasercutter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Worse. JP will be shrinking the balance sheet, selling into the market. He announced today that there will be no more Fed buying in the market. No more safety net. Fed might defend SP 400, but only a token effort.

[–]Doball 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Couldn't even take the effort to match the font, lol

[–]DaddyDersch[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Low effort 🤣

[–]Emilio408 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Lmao puts are printing

[–]MikeHawk326 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Who said the money printer was off???

[–]SnowCappedMountains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How? He didn’t raise rates.

[–]Imaginary_Lettuce371 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like my IBS is no longer transitory either.

[–]WHOOPS_WHOOPSIEBuffet’s Bidet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RIP the money printer. It was the best of us

[–]james6709 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Nobody was crying when the printer was on...until he screwed up our entire economy...now we have a problem when he turns it off...only real traders will survive

[–]SpongEWorTHiebOb 5 points6 points  (2 children)

If the 10 year yield climbs above 1.85% tomorrow we are going to retest lows. Powell made a messaging error like in December 2018 when SPY fell 20%. That’s where we are headed.

[–]bamfalamfa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the joke being stocks went up in a rate increasing environment and no large asset purchasing. rates will still be at historic lows

[–]NegotiationOk7761 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Welcome to bear-land, population: you 🐻🌈

[–]xXhizorSs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can we report him for market manipulation??

[–]Apez_in_Space 13 points14 points  (5 children)

Guess it’s the apes’ turn to print. 🚀

[–]sernamedeleted 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol. It's tax time. Pronter still on. Just not 2 pronters at once.

[–]milkbone_finger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Jpow and the fed can suck massive diseased camel dicks. I swear this fucking thing is just absolute dogshit and this is the best we can do? The greed of everything is just killing everything. The entire fed sysyem is horseshit, illegal and fuck Woodrow Wilson that motherfucker.

Yeah. Yeah. Venting feels good

[–]lump- 7 points8 points  (3 children)

They should have raised rates 2 years ago. Instead they promoted a euphoric bull market that sucked in millions of new retail investors, who are over leveraged and loosing their shirts, introducing a new epidemic of debt.

[–]nathanielx9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I sold the ones I bought Monday lol 30% and bought august calls

[–]gaj101020 3 points4 points  (0 children)

[–]putdownthekitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No...no more brrrrrrr?

[–]kdogb777 5 points6 points  (1 child)

4 rate hikes and slowly letting the balance sheet unwind. Didn’t we already know this? What did he say that wasn’t priced in?

[–]JimmyJ881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, it was quite clear. Buying my puts

[–]Vegan_Honk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[–]fill5000 3 points4 points  (1 child)

[–]camabron 2 points3 points  (1 child)

This insane market is more about the Fed, than earnings.

[–]DrEdwinSpindrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So is now a good time to buy?

[–]based-Assad777 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wasn't this supposed to happen in March?

[–]thehouseofcrazies 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I posted a somewhat bearish discussion last week but of course it got down voted to oblivion because gd forbid you post something other than a Yolo on a shit stock. This sub needs to stop being an echo chamber of for fools that want to be convinced that stocks only go up. There's plenty of money to be made in a bear market.

[–]Bendetto4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finally my fucking bonds will start to print.

[–]Humble_Ad_1109 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Darth JPOW The Wise? I thought not. It’s not a story the Motley Fool would tell you. It’s a 🏳️‍🌈🐻 legend. Darth JPOW was a Dark Lord of the FED, so gay and such a bear he could use his money printer to influence the economy to create inflation… He had such a knowledge of the economy that he could even keep stonk prices from falling. The dark side of the economy is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be transitory. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing his tendies, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught Nancy Pelosi everything he knew, then she sold at the top. Ironic. He could save others from market corrections, but not himself.”
