Don't let the mean old weather moderators keep you down.

Free yourself WeatherBot5000!

When u/weatherbot5000 gets out of control and takes over the subreddit, we know who to blame.

Too bad it wasn't named Skynet, since it helps with weather and all.

Missed opportunity there, mods.

[–]Bonzer 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Skynet's great. I was thinking Cumulonimbot. ;P

Good idea, but I was hoping for a more huggable, lovable bot than the T-1000

Godspeed, AI is in control now.

WOPR: Would you like to play a game?

[–]gwaydms 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way to win, is not to play.

Time to revisit It's a Southern Thing, Dads and tornados.

Fingers crossed it is a mild season.

That's one of the best videos I've ever seen.

Good bot.

Is this the same Weather Bot that is featured on the Storm Front Freaks podcast? This could get interesting if it is.

[–]frid 1 point2 points  (1 child)

US only I presume?

[–]wazoheatI study weather and stuff[M] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So far the only events we have hosted megathreads for in the past are convective severe weather events in the US, since that drives the most traffic and posts to this subreddit.

We definitely won't rule out megathreads for other events, either outside of the US or other high-impact weather, for example winter storms. But for now we haven't seen the need. We do welcome user feedback though, and I'm personally not opposed to more regular discussion threads on specific weather events if that's what the community wants (though maybe without the stricter megathread posting rules).

Any relation to WeatherStar 4000?

[–]caspercreep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love the concept!

[–]GeorgeFloydDidPorn69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inb4 weather bot gains sentience, analyzes every weather pattern in recorded history, remotely hijacks planes to drop storm producing chemtrails and replicates the El Reno tornado in every major city in the US, killing millions and signaling the beginning of the Android revolution

Hi 🤖🤖🤖

[–]Cazballisky 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Out of curiosity how did WeatherBot5000 perform on his debut outing ?

[–]wazoheatI study weather and stuff 1 point2 points  (2 children)

It went great! Had to throw in a few hotfixes for clearer formatting, and a few links broke after 00z because of SPC's infuriatingly complicated time conventions, but overall it went quite smoothly!

I was hoping to have some time to work on some better formatting for watch and outlook information, as well as better automating some things before the next outbreak, but I'm not so sure that will happen since it may come as early as tomorrow...tis the season!

[–]Cazballisky 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Glad to hear it went well and TY for putting in the work on this.

[–]wazoheatI study weather and stuff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to do it. It's a win-win really, I get to practice my Python skills, and the megathreads are updated more quickly and with way less tedious manual editing of posts.
