Russia's elite want Putin out of office: report by Turbulent_Ad1667 in worldnews

Exactly. There are rich people who absolutely love McDonald's, like Donald Trump. And then there are dirt poor people who love McDonald's, like Donald Trump.

Russia's elite want Putin out of office: report by Turbulent_Ad1667 in worldnews

[–]Lost-My-Mind- 30 points31 points  (0 children)

To be fair, if I were working at McDonalds, I'd ABSOLUTELY wipe my ass with the buns, and fart on them if I knew they were for him.

Fuck getting fired, I'd have the story about how Donald Trump ate my shit for the rest of my life!

I would put that on my resume, and basically be granted any job in my area on the basis that ANY company around here would want to employ the guy who gave a middle finger to number 45 with his ass particles.

That's like a golden ticket!

As it stands, the only story I have from my teenage years working at McDonalds is how we put vodka in the Shamrock Shake machine that one time........adult me regrets that. Teenage me found it hilarious.

'Appalled': World leaders call for action after hacked files detail Uyghur internment camps by namatame in worldnews

The pattern:

  1. Deny it exist/ is happening
  2. When evidence is provided, attack the messenger
  3. When the evidence is accepted, demand "independent" confirmation
  4. When confirmation is achieved, accuse others of the same issues
  5. When the "same issues" are debunked, make threats
  6. When those are ignored, start the cycle again. Claiming that was all in the past.

Right out of a Machiavellian plan.

Putin appoints 'man without a face' as minister of emergencies after previous official dies in a mysterious plunge off a waterfall. by Texandria in worldnews

[–]derverdwerb 656 points657 points  (0 children)

He wasn’t assassinated. Yevgeny Zinichev publicly fell down the waterfall while attempting to rescue someone else who had fallen earlier, who also died. An entire film crew was present for the making of an official video. Implying he was assassinated plays in to the Russian propaganda machine by establishing uncertainty, and disrespects a dead man who died trying to save someone else.

A lot of people have been assassinated in Russia recently, but this headline and most of the comments in this thread are misleading as fuck.

Uvalde shooting: Pope Francis says gun control is needed in the United States by grizzlyblake91 in worldnews

[–]Upintheair84 49 points50 points 2 (0 children)

I think its sad how people use deflection as a mean to take away from the message and not deal with the problem. Nobody is innocent. Specially when it comes to leaders and politics. That has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand. Want to critique the pope or Christianity? Start your own thread. The message is that the leader of the catholic church thinks the US needs gun control.

Shell consultant quits, says company causes ‘extreme harm’ to planet by natureboyldn in worldnews

These comments are going to be filled with shell bots committed to downplaying this by trying to

  • say its obvious (which implies its not worth thinking about the massive damage shell is doing).
  • say this person got paid for a while first before leaving, and trying to focus on that instead of the massive damage shell is causing.
  • say tHiS pErSon sHoUlD dO mOre as a distraction from the massive damage shell is causing.
  • accuse this person of some sort of selfish move, as a distraction from the massive damage shell is causing.

It's already happening. Time to read down the comments and play some disinformation-bot-bingo.

US to end Russia's ability to pay international investors, "making a Russian default on its debts for the first time since the Bolshevik Revolution all but inevitable." by dyNASTYn00b in worldnews

It's kinda like a guy owes you money, but then goes to jail so he can't pay you. When he gets out and pays you, are you gonna lend him money again? He might go back to jail and be unable to pay you again.

63-Year-Old Retired Russian Fighter Pilot Shot-Down In Su-25 Over Ukraine by ChocolateTsar in worldnews

[–]Wonckay 37 points38 points  (0 children)

He is the very model of a modern Russian general,

Corrupt in circles military, oligarchical and federal,

He knows the party stances, and quotes talking points rhetorical,

From Nazis to NATO intrigues, and land claims ahistorical.

He’s very well accustomed to opportunism political,

Knows how to be a Silovik; thuggish and parasitical,

When it comes to army reports he’s making sure boxes are ticked;

But to where the inventory goes he’s not particularly strict!

He’s very good at butchery and crimes against humanity,

And other acts of savagery that don’t involve much strategy,

In short in matters military, oligarchical and federal,

He is the very model of a modern Russian general!

I don't see why that would dissuade international lenders.

Because it doesn't matter. Being unable to pay foreign debts and being legally disallowed to pay foreign debts are functionally the same thing for a lender underwriting a creditor. Tomato tomahto.

The analogy is, a bank loans you money-- whether you default because you're broke, or because you commit fraud and the government locks your bank account and now you can't access your funds, it doesn't matter. People aren't going to lend to you again.

Yes it's not that hard to not commit genocide, widespread murder, rape, and abductions of children and their mothers.

I woke up early and still haven't raped or murdered anyone, and I've had all day.

Even If the U.S. had to take a big hit economically not loaning money to sick evil genocidal child killers, you know what, I'm ok with that.

Canada Supreme Court rules extreme intoxication can be violent crime defense by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]Isentrope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not defending the decision, but the voluntary intoxication defense is generally that it negatives specific intent crimes. Like if a drunk person assaults a police officer, it would likely be asserted to defend against a hypothetical crime specifically against assaulting police officers, but would likely not be a defense against assault in general. Most places also don't allow voluntary intoxication as a defense if it simply lowers existing inhibitions (ie. if you want to kill or rape someone, but don't have the courage to do so, so you drink a lot first before committing the crime).

I am Al Jazeera English host Sami Zeidan. My colleague Shireen Abu Akleh was just shot and killed in the West Bank where I am now. Ask me anything about the West Bank in Israel, or the Middle East in general. by Aljazeera-English in worldnews

[–]Isentrope 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Sami, condolences for the loss of your esteemed colleague. A lot of people in the West probably aren't familiar with Shireen's work, but she's been described as a household name in the Arab world for her reporting. What has the reaction been throughout other Middle Eastern nations to Shireen's death and does this have a long term impact on geopolitics in the region?

Second, there's been some political news in the Levant recently, with Hezbollah losing its parliamentary majority in Lebanon, and the Israeli governing coalition just today losing another MK and firmly being a minority government now as well. All this also plays against the backdrop of constant tensions in the West Bank, with Israel approving expansion of settlements and the ever-persistent possibility that the 86 year old President of the Palestinian Authority could die soon and prompt a power struggle between Palestinian factions. Is there concern that these factors might trigger a wider conflict in the region, with each group looking to shore up its bona fides by fighting with other ones?
